I was reading another thread and noticed another user flicks the kickstand in and out when they're bored I do the same thing how about you guys? Just trying to make small talk before I ask you all out. My name is Yevo.(fututlrama reference btw not actually looking for a date)

If I'm not doing anything, I'll mess around with the kickstand. I don't stay still very well you see...
Haha I do, everyone looks because it makes that clicking sound when it goes out then in.
I do the same... When Im on the phone at work I flick it... Or I hold the phone by it and spin it... I Probably shouldn't do that but oh well...
I'll admit, I fidget and mess with the kickstand whenever I'm in a boring meeting or whatever. Wore out the kickstand a bit on my first EVO doing that...
Yea, I flick it open and close all the time
I actually use it to prop my phone up. lol I use my Slingbox A LOT. I'll miss the kickstand, but it won't stop me from upgrading.
I know it is early in the thread, but not one penis joke?
I mess with mine all the time, I foubg that all it takes it a little pressure on the hinge side and it pops right open.
Haha yeah I do the same. I'll be standing somewhere reading on it while flicking the kickstand. It's become a habit of mine
yes i play with mine occasionally.
lol i do too when i am bored...
Only when my wife's out of town.

Exactly! I am constantly popping it up like that and slapping it back down
...giggity
-Just warming up!
yeah it doesnt take much to get my kickstand standing haha i dropped it when i was playing with it once and it fell on the kickstand, now it closes easier, opens quick, but stays locked in whatever position i leave it in
Haha, yeah, I flick it in and out all the time!
I'm actually surprized at how well it's held-up. When I first saw it, I was like well....that's going to break in a month!

Man, that would have been a great marketing ploy: Built-in Kickstand, that also works for warding off needy girlfriends and other unwanted people - flicks in and out with ease!

Hey everyone,
This is my first post here. Figured you might enjoy seeing how my dad's new Evo stood up after falling out of his front pocket on the interstate on the way to work. He did have a hard outer case covering the back and the sides. You can see from the pictures where it landed on the one corner and shattered the screen. It does function fully and you would never know that it had been dropped at 70mph and run over by a car if the screen weren't shattered. If you ask me, it held up pretty good.
*** I guess new users aren't able to post links until verified by a moderator but you should be able to figure out how to get these to work.

wow.... how did it fall out again???
cant wait to see the pics
My dad was riding his motorcycle to work and it fell out of his pocket when he hit one of our city's famous bumps in the middle of the highway and it threw the back end of his bike up in the air. He was doing an unintentional endo in the middle of the highway at 70mph.
damn!!! sorry... that is one big bump to force a big phone out of his pocket!..
i hope he has insurance on the phone!
That's the ultimate drop test!
ah, i see it ... dayum! O_O

I'll try to attach them...
That's awesome though! Not the drop, but that it still works!
Awe man that sux, but I can relate! I had that happen to me once with my Sprint Diamond. On a Vmax and pulling away from an R1 in a red-light to red-light drag, I'm looking in my mirror at the guy on the R1 and notice my phone sliding on the road along side him. The hardest part was to forfeit the race and then turn around to go get it. Glad I did though. The phone suffered only a rash to it's backside. The screen was still perfect.
This Evo is going in an Otter case, as soon as they are released.

This is weird but pretty sure there's an explanation. The screen on the x10 is touch sensitive so no pressure is needed to move or type things right. It's all in the electrons running through your veins.
I was talking to my gf on speaker phone when I happened to breath on the screen of my phone.
I noticed that my beautiful home widget suddenly moved
and I felt the phone vibrate.
I started to mess around trying to change screens just by breathing on the screen...and..
Bingo I managed to swipe the desktop screen without touching the screen or any buttons.
** I didn't blow on the screen I breathe air, like when you fog up a window, and it has to be very warm LOL.
Someone confirm this please, its kinda cool when you consider that your not really doing nething physical to the device, just air. Why does this happen?

Welcome to the exciting world of Capacitive Touchscreens!
can't seem to do it is it cos I've got a screen protector on?? BTW I have come from the HTC Reboot (aka desire) forum section - so I'm knew to this part of town
You all have way to much time on your hands! I love it! My new pick up like.. hey baby breath on my handy please. No really..
Yeah, it really sucks when I'm crank-calling someone...
I try to breathe heavily into the phone, but it bloody causes me to hang up...
Give me resistive touch screen for crank-calling any day...!
i think i need more oxygen,,, it makes me exhausted!!!!!!!!!
Breath in ,,,, Breath out
mmmmmmmm, i can imagine
imagine the games you can create with this. Got it working on my phone,
The question is.. what were you doing breathing so heavily on the phone to your Mrs ;-)

So I'm runnin crazy at work, and one of my employees tells me my wife is on the phone for me. I pick up, and she's all frantic and babblin...can't understand her. I get worried, and tell her to slow down and breathe.
"I dropped it in the toilet babe...I'm so sorry!"
"Eh...dropped what in the toilet?" I ask.
"My phone! I was brushing my hair and listening to my voicemails...and it slipped out of my hand...omg omg what do I do!"
So...I pause, and it's my turn to take a deep breath. I'm cursin her out in my mind, for sure...I wanna say: "This is why I get all the cool toys, and you get the hand-me-downs babe!! WTF?!" Instead I get into action-mode.
"Ok...first off open that puppy up, and take out the battery and sim / sd cards. Give it a good shake, get all that water outta there."
"I'm so sorry honey..." Still panicking
"It's all good" I say through clenched teeth
"ok what next?"
I walk her through blotting it dry on the surface...spreading it all out on a towel, then tell her to get her hair dryer out. She goes to town with a no heat setting for about 30 mins...hittin each and every nook and cranny.
"Ok...now go pour some rice on a plate in an even layer, and lay the phone on top of it." I instruct.
"Huh? What-the-hell-you-talkin-about hon?" Her response
"Just trust me on this"
"Ok...I'm really sorry." All timidlike
I get home a few hours later, and touch it all off with a compressed air canister to be sure. Put it together again and press the power button....
And there's that lovely sideways Android Logo. A few reboots later to make sure, all is well.
The wife hugs me in relief and asks...
"Are you still gonna get me the NookColor for Christmas?"
I went outside for a smoke.
lol I find it sweet and i don't know why.
congrats on getting it back
only thing i would have done differently is leave it in the rice for 24-48 hrs. dropped the old mytouch in the toilet and got it back that way.
usually when people cant get it working after water exposure its because they immediately try to turn it back on or with in a couple hrs and end of frying it. seems like you already know this, just throwing it out there for others.
anyway, congrats on keeping it going

My thoughts exactly...
Not to be a downer, but if it was dropped in toilet water, it will probably start to corrode and die. I would have opened it up, and carefully done a 99% alcohol or methanol rinse. Rinse all the nasty water away, the 99% isopropyl alcohol or methanol will evaporate in seconds without damaging anything, and no corrosion.
You might have things like printed material on chips inside the phone rub off with the methanol, but ahh no biggie.
Anybody else's Evo Shift loose when closed? The top can move about 1mm easily, just holding it normal or upside down causes it to happen. If i shake it holding the bottom half you can feel the top slightly moving back and forth? This normal? it seems like a small issue, but even after one day it's bugging the **** out of me.
Mine does this as well and it's rather annoying.
Sent from Earf using XDA App
Mine does this thought it doesn't move enough to the point that it bothers me.
pretty typical on slider phones. Alot less than the TP or TP2 IMHO...
You can try putting a case on it. Makes everything snug and tight.
^ Shift Faced
The thing is though, this isn't a spring loaded slider, there's nothing that is pulling/pushing to give it the amount of play it has when closed. Even with spring loaded sliders, they might have a little play when closed, but they dont freely move the way the shift does. In contrast, the OG droid is the same type of slider and I've gone through god knows how many replacements of those, with no play at all. And HTC > Moto's quality as far as I can tell. Until now I guess =/ Love my shift, but still, I can definitely see a new phone in my future more recently than I thought I would.
Put a case on mine and its actually really tight now. To the point where it can be difficult to slide it open so I've been using the touchscreen more now. I refuse to take the case off though...it would be my luck that as soon as I do remove it my phone would bite the dust...

Mine has a little play in it. Not too much but just enough to make it annoying. This is my first slider so not sure how "normal" it is. I would be interested to see if anyone has any sort of fix. No insurance because I'm very careful with my phones but I'm pretty sure that "slightly loose when closed" isn't considered in the warranty lol.
Mine has a small amount of play when closed. I wasn't sure if it was normal so I returned it for another one (within my 30-day window) and the new one does it too.

Had both of those. 2 tp's and a tp2. The shift (at least mine [with all side and back stickers removed]) is pretty tight. All 4 phones naked.
there was a plastic protective cover on the inside of the keyboard, along the right and left edges. If you leave that on it doesn't seem to be loose. My Mom just got her Shift a week or so ago, and never took that plastic off, and it's solid while mine feels quite loose.
Mine's solid as a rock. Thing doesn't even budge unless I physically move it with my hand.
Ok guys - weird happenings, i use a usb cable from my desktop pc to charge my N4 at times. I had been sitting it on top of the pc tower & it has fallen onto the laminate floor 3 times and came out without injury. So i thought it was vibration from my pc tower, so i have been sitting the phone on my pc desk surface, today i found the phone hanging half way across the edge of the desk. There is no serious vibration to mention from my pc or desk, the phone has not been ringing for the phone vibrate to cause it either. So does anyone else have any paranormal activity with their N4 strangely falling off surfaces??
only thing i notice is the glass bottom surface is very slidey
This has been a problem since day one. Put a rear screen protector on. That'll fix you up.
this is the reason I bought a bumper when I ordered mine
Yeah, that's not paranormal I'm afraid, the back is very slippery, the device can and does slide even with no vibrations at all. Just make sure to place something in the surroundings of the phone when you leave it charging that can block random slides.
cheers guys, this is surely a bad design, im so lucky no serious damage occurred. Ill buy and try the rear screen protector as im not a fan of phone covers etc, Fingers crossed this does the trick. Many thanks guys for the feedback :good::good: :laugh:

You are charging it with your PC on top of the tower with a cable tugging on it... And you are saying it is bad design? Give me a break.
Try using your charger and maybe put it someplace where the cable will not pull it. This is not rocket science.

I never said i was charging it on top of the pc tower, i sat it there. When its charging its on a flat desk surface as is the charge cable. I have sat the phone on my desk and sat it on top of my wallet and it falls off. So with this phone i will need to be careful how i place it. Of course its a bad design, i should be able to sit my phone flat on a flat surface and not worry about it falling onto the floor. Nexus aint gonna give me a new one if it were to get broken and no warning came with the phone.

my n4 has probably fallen/jumped at least 50 times over the past 5 weeks, and its still in perfect condition(no cases or screen guards). luckily, the far majority of falls have been on a carpet, but some have been pretty scary
I can also say that I find mine sliding. It's quite weird actually, from the tests I've done I've noticed that it usually occurs when I have it on my leather couch or my ottoman. Yes, I know it's not a desk but the phone is sitting there rather level. It has also done it on my home desk as well, but not at my work desk (yes, both desks are level). It kind of reminds me of an air hockey table type situation. If you have it on your desk and push it, it doesn't require as much work as lets say an SGS3, Galaxy Nexus, or Blackberry to move. Basically the way it's designed causes it to not create much friction between it and the surface it is on.
Although, none of this bothers me since the phone is a fricken beaut.

Better get a thicker skin quicker as you're dealing with a lot of teenagers in these forums. Its like playing WoW, way too many prepubescent teens.
guys, it's not the phone. It's the surfaces you're placing it on. Most tables/desks are nice, smooth and shiny. Combine that with the glass and a NOT SO PERFECTLY FLAT SURFACE and you get falls
