Does anyone else think that Samsung has caused tons of confussion by announcing two Android 10.1" tablets with effectively the same name (i.e. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1). Surely adding a 'S' for slim to the slimmer variant would have done the job but instead it has caused lots of confusion among websites and general public. Even those who are a bit clued up have gotten mixed up. I know the model numbers are likely to change once carriers start to offer them up (e.g. Vodafone UK are going to be offering the original thicker 10.1. They are going to call it the 10.1V).
The thick one will have "v".
Afaik, in this case, V=Vodafone. Vodafone is pretty much the only company selling the thick one, so makes perfect sense to me.

Vodafone was the only company stupid enough to sign the deal with Samsung at MWC.
Now they are stuck with tablet that is missing one of the most important features (sd card slot!) with high pricing (since they sign the deal before iPad2 was announced) and competition even from Samsung
Samsung is giving Vodafone 3 months as of an exclusivity but after that instead of filling up shops with thick version they will put a new, thin one in.
Samsung has to start competing with Apple so if Vodafone gets stacked with their "old" model - tough :-( but others will make up for volume sales.
No way I will buy 10.1v with current (higher than new 10.1) prices

I definitely agree. The biggest downfall for the 10.1V will be the lack of MicroSD card slot. I didn't know pricing was released for the 10.1V, I assumed the announced prices for 10.1 would be about the same for 10.1V. If 10.1V is considerably more expensive then this is another nail in the coffin.
I really hope the new 10.1 will be available by some retailer/carrier in the UK market and that we don't have to wait much longer than the US market.
I would expect new 10.1 to hit our shops not later than September/October.
It would make sense for Samsung to start sales with "back to school" season openings and prepare for frontal attack of ads and promotions before X-mass.
As long as Honeycomb is not patched up to actually support sd card (Xoom has slot but it is not working...) there is no reason for Samsung to rush (too much). The do want to be in the shops in the fall but with all features up&running - otherwise updated 10.1 will be as loved as Xoom is - that would be a mistake...
It seems that MS with Win8 for tablets might still be in the game in 2012 (if they will hurry up and show perfect product before March 2012) - Google seems to be quite slow with Honeycomb updates and development. Too many products to take care of and not enough "in house" developers?

I really hope Samsung are able to bring this to the UK market before Summer. If Samsung take until Sept/Oct then that will really suck. Begs the question, how ready was the new 10.1 at CTIA. I know they weren't working models so does this mean they created an exterior shell with nice dimensions and are now trying to solve the problem of how to fit all the components within that shell? Is it possible Samsung may have to change the dimensions if they have miscalculated or come across issues? If the hardware and dimensions have been solved already then I really hope this delay isn't down to software. May be that is a taster for the delays to be expected for OS updates too?
1. New 10.1 can not show up in shops before 10.1v tegra2 competition (transformer and LG Tab and Iconia A500) - if it will Vodafone will have to start doing "give away" of 10.1v (as far as I remember it will be a bit more expensive than new 10.1 and for sure not as good and versatile).
2. 10.1v was complete and ready at MWC2011 but only one company placed actually orders for "XYZ" pieces of this tablet - Vodafone.
Lets face it, before iPad2 and with Xoom as the only competition it was very interesting product... I suppose firs idea was for Samsung to chase up Xoom (they must have thought that Xoom sales will be 10000% higher than they really are). Only few ppl. pointed 10.1v shortcomings as an important thing...
Than it came out that Xoom is not as hot as everyone predicted, iPad2 showed up and Samsung realized that if they will not change their product there is no way that can compete against not only Apple but against any one. The only problem was that Vodafone has already ordered their tablets (probably decision made by some one who do not know much about tablets and what customers wants... - how do you think... is this "SOMEBODY" still with Vodafone? ). Now...
Samsung has a HIT product (even two) but they need to make sure Honeycomb will support all built in features to avoid accusations of the same kind Moto has against Xoom, Vodafone has to have time to sell at least some of the 10.1v (they are a big Samsung customers after all), Samsung wants to make sure they will show modern, fully finished product like iPad/2 with a competitive price.
So far there is not another tablet in the market (or announced) that could compete against new 10.1.
Transformer will have a slightly different customer group (but it seems to be the closest competition).
All other tablets are either different in size, weight, they have different screens or hight price (GT 8.9 vs LG 3D tablet 8.9).
There is only one question in this..... as there is one BIG company that did say they are working on the tablet but did not show anything exactly.
If this company will suddenly introduce something better than new 10.1 it might create additional "heat" against Samsung product.
But again, so far for "average Joe" new GT 10.1 seems to be the best Android tablet coming and main iPad 2 rival.

Exactly, like a previous generation of tablets.
I do not like it one bit either.
Even 10.1v is way sexier.
In regard of "Samsung causing confusion with Tab 10.1".
Confusion will size to exist very soon - 10.1v has been produced in small volume and it will be available only through Vodafone. Once it disappears from the market there will only be 10.1 left

This is really useful information. One thing I don't understand is that if Vodafone has exclusive selling rights for the 10.1V, this doesn't stop any other carrier or retailer from selling the new 10.1 if it's available from Samsung. So hopefully, we'll see the new 10.1 tablets via carriers or retailers as soon as Samsung can supply them for each specific region.
I remembers when news hit that Vodafone had exclusive selling rights for the original Samsung Galaxy S. It later became apparent that this was just for the 16GB model and the 8GB were commonly available everywhere else. Not that I'm interested in the 10.1V (or for many other people either) but is it possible that Vodafone's exclusive selling rights are for a specific sec of the 10.1V? E.g. a specific colour or storage space configuration?

1. Do not treat all my sentences above as an information. It is pure speculation based upon current knowledge and situation. Lets call it analyses
2. Of course new 10.1 and 8.9 will be available through out but:
- postponing their lunch for a bit gives a chance for a Vodafone to sell 10.1V
- since Samsung actually started to work (and production) of new 10.1 later they might not be ready yet in large volume (if I would be Samsung I would make sure both 10.1 and 8.9 are available worldwide on day 1 of sales - ppl. are tired with waiting and Transformer and Iconia will be there if one does not want to wait...)
- we do not know if and who has a new exclusive deal with Samsung on their new 10.1 / 8.9
- I suppose 10.1v at Vodafone will be in 32GB version and only other that was supposed to be out (I doubt it will be actually out because of its price and limited features) was 64GB
I do not think we will see 10.1v (officially) any where else than at Vodafone...

Given this deal, can the Sprint Tab be rooted and connected to Verizon's CDMA 3g, or is it permanently tied to Sprint's 3g network?
I'm thinking about buying it. I'm on the Viewsonic G Tablet forum only, so I don't know much about the Galaxy Tab development. How functional is the Honeycomb port for the Galaxy Tab? I just got Honeycomb installed on my GTab and so far its really good for an alpha build. The only thing not working is flash plugin, camera, and video hardware acceleration.
I just got mine from their last sale, and it works great, have had some over the air upgrades. I, too, have a viewsonic. I like the Galaxy size and the main reason was the built in GPS... Makes the Copilot work more reliable compared to the bluetooth Viewsonic. Of course the Viewsonic big screen is nicer to read documents and web...

Just bought one. I've got the wifi only version right now and really enjoy it. I'm listing that guy on ebay right now and I'm going to start the auction at $260 or so. It'll sell and I'll basically get upgraded hardware (faster processor, BT 3.0) at no cost. I'm down with that.
this must be limited availability... this is monster deal for 3G. thats 180euro
So If I have a current sprint plan with unlimited data, can this be added just like an extra line? obviously that wouldn't include the sprint hotspot. Or, will they require a separate plan?
I am about to hit Buy now, but is it worth it. Any serious opinions on the device from real users is what I like to hear, not reviewers. I own an iPad 2, which is hard to beat. Im no apple_boy either. Its the best thats why I own. Anyways I want a new Android tablet, I have owned one last year (Camangi WebStation) but I want to give it another go. How is the DEVin here, are there a few good ROMs?

There are a few ROMs available... not near as active as say the HD2 forums or the Xoom forums... Overcome is pretty much the dominant ROM for GSM tabs. Alterbridge has both a 2.2 and a 2.3 rom available at the moment, and Spacemoose1 is currently working on development for Honeycomb for both the GSM and CDMA devices. If I didn't have one of these already, I'd be buying it... Someone point Deeper-Blue to this post so He and Space can develop HC together...
I've got a Nook Color as well and I am considering buying the G Tab on Woot too.
Not sure if I am going to pull the trigger on it, though. Besides cameras and a mic, what else would it give me that my rooted Nook Color doesn't have?
so it might be worth it. I was about to pull the trigger on the ASUS Transformer, but I went to best Buy this morning and it was sold out. I was available online there for like the past 3 days, now SOLD OUT
But I keep seeing these Galaxy Tabs for sale, some pretty good deals, its making me wonder if I should go Honeycomb, the post for this could be a ways away.
Put one on order for my dad, he's been drooling over my g tablet but I'm sure he'll be happy with one of these galaxy tabs. Couldn't beat the price.

£478.99 exc VAT on 31st October at Handtech
If this phone follows the trend, there should be a big price drop in 3 - 4 months. I can wait.
This phone will be awesome. I have tablets, but I still do most of my news reading on my current 4" screen LG G2X phone. I don't know why Samsung had to market this for women. Anyways, the 1.4ghz dual core and battery capacity is probably one of the best in the whole phone industry right now.

Clove Uk has revised their release date to "to be confirmed" from stock expected about November 1. Clove "hopes" to ship mid November. They are waiting for Samsung to tell them when they will have the product delivered to their warehouse. It is very possible phone will be delayed so it can ship with Ice Cream on board (rumor.)
The price of a smartphone (Galaxy SII) bought outright (unlocked, expensive than phone price on contract) which includes tax and gst here in Australia is roughly 425 GBP.
At 425 GBP, the SGNote is NOT CHEAP, but I would buy it in a heartbeat, but not a penny more. The baseline for smartphone outright price has been 400-450GBP in Australia for sometime, I think its unfair to exceed that.

I'm so torn between the Note and the Nexus.
At the moment I've preordered the Nexus but I dont know... I would realy like the bigger screen and the sd-card slot on the Note.
Might end up with both...
EDIT:
And now I've both preordered. Think I'll go for the Note. I just hope that it will get ICS fast.
EDIT2:
Leaning towards getting both now =) So my wife get a shiny new phone to (but the sgs2 she have now is not to bad either)

LOL i am in the same boat as you
The Nexus is nice but I'm majorly swayed by the screen size on the Note and the stylus input.
I think most people looking at both nexus and note, Had both pre-ordered but cancelled the nexus. Only NFC and ICS missing on the note. I dont need NFC for three to five years. (might be payment method world wide). but who knows? ICS, i still think we will see that on the note sometime next year...
Brilliant short clip showing how good the Note is for video editing and annotation. This is one awesome tablet phone.

Ooh, thanks for that - nice!
I had the original 7.0 tab and I loved the size and portability.
Since then I've sold it, got the Note (which is awesome). I hoped that it would replace the tab, but I've noticed I've been reaching for my laptop much more than I ever did with my Tab.
Also with MWC just round the corner I'm thinking I should wait?
Another quick question, now that it has a resolution 1280x800 does that mean websites now load properly?
Thanks, Ben.
I have a Note and got the 7.7 too. Great combo in my opinion. I have tried for 3 days to run out the battery and still haven't. This is the best tablet made I think.
The build quality is what surprised me. It feels so solid, really premium.
I'd buy if I were you. I don't see anything this size to top it anytime soon.
Got to go ahead and get you one...
I for one last year had a P1000 too & sold it to someone who chouldnt believe 'they' came up with a 7 inch phone.....
Then I got the Note..
And Ive noticed that many many folks on here ALSo have the GNote too..
Big screens rule!! You have 1 or 2 at home always on always watching..
you may as well have 1 or 2 in your pocket as well...
I carry my Gnote in my front pocket..
I did carry my P1000 in the same pocket too..
I just got the 7.7 yesterday and test fitted it in my pocket,,..
It Fits!!!
ZGo get you one.. You know you like big screens.. TV's and Phones...
PS.. What is MWC???
MWC= mobile world congress 2012 barcelona. One of the biggest phone shows. Leaning more to phones than Cebit, Ifa or Ces.
It is from 27.02.12 to 06.03.12 i think
I have a few SGS2s running CM9, have had P1000 which was great and I sold it, had both 8.9 and 10.1 for short periods and missed the phone call capability. Bought a P6200 on the expectation of selling it to buy a P6800 when it ships (the 3G P6800 is just not available yet in the UK, except as a Far East import which doesn't appeal). So I'd got my head straight and knew what I wanted to end up with....then I read today about the new 11.6 and it's 2560x1600 resolution screen...no word whether it'll support normal phone capability though.
I honestly do wish Samsung would stop announcing products that then don't ship for 9-10 months, where the product lifecycle is only about 18 months anyway they're just hurting themselves....expectation doesn't hold for 9 months when you then announce the next iteration.
Instead if they announced products and shipped them no later then 90 days later I think their sales would rise quite dramatically.
Ho Hum....I suppose it matters not what I wish for, just means I won't be buying the P6800 now will instead use the P6200 till my next upgrade.
Haha OP check my sig...Note and 7.7
Hopefully it's not far behind for the Tab 7.7! I don't mind Honeycomb per se but it's kinda laggy and sure that ICS will cure this (as it did for the TF Prime).
It looks like a recycled Tab 7.0 with a new shell.
That one has 1.0GHz CPU, even lower than Galaxy Tab 7.0.
I have no idea what samsung are thinking of.
Are they selling "1.2GHz Galaxy Tab 7.0" and "1.0GHz Galaxy Tab 2" at a time?
Where is the sense in it?
Definitely makes zero sense, unless they are going to sell this for < $199 (which is not impossible) sans contract.
