Well, I know that the Google translator is not bad but when you compare a human translation from a native speaker and a computer translation, especially of larger texts, you will be shocked and often the consensus is a completly different

ShrinkSms New messaging application to save you money

Hi guys
I came across this application.. Very nice one
Check this out
http://sites.google.com/site/shrinksms/
it requires your contact to have a pda and this app. For me, these are too high requirements to be usable.
I prefer SMS Zip which will remove spaces and start every new word with a capital.

Galaxy S i9000 questions

Hi all.
I bought my new samsung s i9000 a week ago. I live in Greece but it came from Germany. I managed to change the locale and now all the text is displayed in Greek. I have installed swype and the greek language pack but I am facing the following issues.
1. Only when I send SMS the greek text is not displayed correctly. On the web etc the greek text is displayed fine. I guess it has to do because the galaxy sends the text as utf-8 and not unicode. But how do I fix this problem? BTW I can read fine SMS I receive in Greek.
2. The contacts have on the right side an alphabetic index for fast search. This is in English. How can I replace it with the Greek Alphabet? In order to search for a contact I need too many steps. The index would solve my search problem.
I would appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I've only had my SGS for half a day so I could be wrong but I think I saw it somewhere in the settings from th home screen, I'm sure there was a unicode option.

I bought it from a Greek e-shop but they told me before hand that it would from Germany. I didn't have any problems importing it because Greece is part of the EU.

Thank you gadget0. You were right. I didn't notice this option.
Now if someone could help me replace the English alphabet with the Greek it would be great. I wouldn't want more from this great smartphone. !!
Go to the market, and download 'Greek Input Method', by bitquill.net. Then activate it from Settings/ Locale and Text.
I personally found it excellent
EDIT: Ah, but I have the same problem, I hadn't tried to send sms in Greek. Sorry
Not sure if this will work in Greek but I had the same problem with sms and Japanese text. I solved it by changing 'input mode' to unicode in the messaging settings. This relies on your recipient phone accepting unicode text and not some other character set. Worked for me anyway.

Great, fixed mine too. Set it to Automatic.
Hmm, I don't think that the 2nd part can be solved that easily, however if your contacts are all in Greek you can search for them with the Greek keyboard. Maybe future firmwares will have the Greek alphabet.. which one do you have now?
SMS max letters & contacts localisation in Samsung Galaxy S
Hi,
I'm confirming the problems of depika for the in-country (Greece - by Cosmote) purchased phone too:
1. Unicode is a workaround that works so that at least we can send an sms, however we are limited to 70 chars,
2. If anyone has locale-only contacts (and not combined english + other lang) please let us know if you get proper sorting layout and not the one that depika reports.
P.S.: Who should we "bug" about regarding this one? Google or Samsung?
Thanks!

Optimus S - SMS in non-english characters ?

Hi,
I have a WinMob phone and my wife just got an LG Optimus S (both on Sprint).
We're bi-lingual (English / Russian). Both phones have US localization and 3rd party dual language keyboards.
I can both send and receive cyrillic SMS. She can only send them in cyrillic. I can read the SMS she sends from her phone but she can't read the SMS I send from mine (bunch of underscores). Since both phones are on the same network it's not operator related.
I don't know Android at all - this is my first exposure to it. On WinMob this would be related to encoding settings, however WM is very good at handling various encodings (at least in Microsoft's own applications). I did go through settings but I can't find a way to make it use Unicode in SMS; any help will be greatly appreciated !
Wow, this surely generated lots of attention ! 8(
Seems to be an Android-specific bug.
Sorry I will probably not be able to help you, but I encounter the same problem when I receive a message in French. What is weird is that it seems to affect only certain types of accents... Are you using the native SMS app or are you using Handcent as well?
By the way in Hancent there is options for several language formats, this being said it did not seem to work successfully for me but you will maybe have more luck.

Moto App Reading texts aloud when at home/driving

FYI: this only works for texts sent to your actual phone number... Not to any Google Voice numbers. Bummer.
Has anybody found a solution for this?
I emailed Motorola a few weeks back about adding support for more languages, as I like the feature, but people don't generally text me in English..
No reply yet though, so I'll probably email them again.
If I remember, I'll mention support for third party apps too, messenger support would be nice.
I doubt they read this forum, so email them you lot too. =)
