Optimus S - SMS in non-english characters ? - GT540 Optimus General

Hi,
I have a WinMob phone and my wife just got an LG Optimus S (both on Sprint).
We're bi-lingual (English / Russian). Both phones have US localization and 3rd party dual language keyboards.
I can both send and receive cyrillic SMS. She can only send them in cyrillic. I can read the SMS she sends from her phone but she can't read the SMS I send from mine (bunch of underscores). Since both phones are on the same network it's not operator related.
I don't know Android at all - this is my first exposure to it. On WinMob this would be related to encoding settings, however WM is very good at handling various encodings (at least in Microsoft's own applications). I did go through settings but I can't find a way to make it use Unicode in SMS; any help will be greatly appreciated !

Wow, this surely generated lots of attention ! 8(
Seems to be an Android-specific bug.

Sorry I will probably not be able to help you, but I encounter the same problem when I receive a message in French. What is weird is that it seems to affect only certain types of accents... Are you using the native SMS app or are you using Handcent as well?
By the way in Hancent there is options for several language formats, this being said it did not seem to work successfully for me but you will maybe have more luck.

Sms voice dictation??

Hallo to everybody.
I am a happy owner of a MDA Vario that changed my life (i guess i'll never go back to mobile phones ).
So, with googleling and the help of your posts i am really satisfied of the HTC i costumized and have here now.
Looking at the tons of features the only one i never found around was the possibility to dictate voice to txt SMS.
Typically while driving would be userful
I saw the Microsoft sw but only helps to send voice mails or mms. But no speech to txt. There is a sw that is a client and uses a server (internet side) to make the real translation but is an idiot idea (here in italy GPRS or UMTS traffic is quite expensive). I saw that a samsung cell has this feature.
Possible that all my googleling missed something?
Ciao to everybody!

Sending Unicode SMS messages via mobile phone from PDA

Hi,
I need your help to find out a software that I can use my HTC Touch Cruise to send and receive Unicode SMS messages via mobile phone.
I searched over and didn't find out a software that works with WM6. Can you help me to find one?
Thanks
Is it that hard to get?!
It looks like I am asking soming not easy to get! I did almost two weeks search for workable software. I only found one software which is called Instant SMS Sender. I tried it and it works. But it doesn't have must features like Indovisi SMS.
I hope someone can come up with better one. Lets look who is the Hero
Thanks
I found a very simple freeware software which is called zSMS v0.6. I tested and it works. It doesn't allow me to type unicode SMS. Did any body test to send unicode SMS using zSMS software?
Thanks
Try using Simple SMS V5.0 (For WM5 & WM6), and you may find your luck, depending on what type of handphone you are using.
Well, I still prefer Indovisi SMS but I am having the same problem with you.
Let me know if you find any better software too..

Incoming SMS not displaying Japanese, outgoing ok...?

Hey guys! I've lurked for a while, finally registered about a week ago. First of all, what a great, information filled forum. Thank you everyone (dcd especially for your excellent, excellent roms).
I've got illuminarok's Japanese input thing installed and it works absolutely wonderfully with one exception...I can't receive any messages in Japanese. When I send them to my PC, they show up completely fine, which leads me to believe it's not a problem with Arcsoft's MMS composer.
I've tried setting the "Accept-Language" registry entry in HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader to "ja", but that didn't seem to make much difference.
Japanese still displays flawlessly, I can send SMS/MMS with absolutely no problem at all, I just can't receive.
I realize that I'm probably in the vast minority of users that are trying to get Japanese/any other foreign language working on their Titan/xv6800, but anyone with any ideas on what I might be missing would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone have any information about Verizon's network and receiving unicode sms/mms?

HTC Magic, SMS Greek language failure

Hello,
I'm quite new to the Android family. I bought an HTC Magic.
I use it and it's all fine. I used to send SMS in Greek. Lately when I try to send an SMS in Greek, the keyboard is only in capital letters and they don't receive it correctly but in strange letters without make any sence. Does anyone know how to solve it?
I searched some solutions such as virtual keyboard but it doesn't work.
Did you apply the official HTC update with HTC Sense? That fixes some Greek sms issues,
other than that 2 things. First, check any apps you've installed since the problem first appeared secondly I'd install handsent SMS (that does support greek chars and works perfectly)
I hope this helps.
I didn't do anything with HTC Sense. I searched the net and found an HTC page . I check that they have the version 3.05.401.3. I check my mobile and it has the 3.05.401.3 CL#98222 release-keys (I don't have a clue what's that).
I don't think it's the apps I installed. I restore the phone to the factory settings and tried to send an SMS. Still the same problem.
I installed Greek IME but I feel it doesn't work well. When I click send, the SMS is still in the box and I think it doesn't send SMS.
Do you think that if I do the HTC Sense thing, it will work with the SMS?

[Q] SMS to MMS Autoconversion

My dad recently purchased a Galaxy Note 3. Everything works fine, except when he attempts to send SMSes.
I'm well aware that Android converts them to MMS after it exceeds a certain length. However, it's now converting them [in the first message] as soon as I input a special character such as ç. If he only typed in English, there'd be no problem. But he types in a lot of the 'romance languages' too.
Is there a way to fix it without installing another app? Or is that the only solution?
Thanks in advance.

Using Hangouts as default for SMS should fix it
Very strange, because other Note 3 does not have this issue.
If you dont want to use another alternative, you can do hard reset.
Otherwise you can use 3rd party sms client, such as Go SMS...
Use Hangouts. Supports SMS and video call all within the same app - reduces the need for apps such as skype
