[Q] Kernel Performance - Motorola Droid and Milestone Themes and Apps

Is Quadrant the best you're going to get regarding tracking performances? I have that and i want to be able to see similar stats but regarding how Peter Alfonso's kernel (1.25) is doing on the Droid 1. It's got his latest ROM (14) on it, its been nothing but awesome, but i want to know how to see how the kernel is doing with this old yet rooted phone. Anything in the market i'm missing 'app-wise' to look at kernel stats?
thanks much!

It's about the only thing I've found to use as well.

Fastest stock froyo kernel

Suggestion box didn't come up with anything relevant. Basically just rooted my Evo, running stock 2.2 and want the fastest kernel without flashing a custom ROM - I actually like Sense on a phone that's fast enough to handle it. On my Hero it was awful and CM6 helped tons - on the Evo I'd like to keep it.
Can anyone offer any help? Currently running the usual 1147 quadrant score. Over 1500 would be awesome.
Bump before bed.
Just do some research tons I mean tons of info in the Dev section go have a read
from the fade
Well.. I've tried that. I can't find anything in plain English that says "This is for stock Evo" or "This is sense based and will keep all of your nice widgets". That's why I asked the question.
Dont know if its the fastest, but i Run this on my rooted stock EVO..

It's cool. Basically you want a kernel that works on Sense ROMs. There are a lot of them out there. Installing a new kernel won't affect your launcher or widgets as long as it is compatible with Sense.
Honestly the easiest thing to do is to install a different ROM that comes with an improved kernel. There are lots of Sense ROMs out there such as Baked Snack. They come with their own kernel and are tested and optimized to work together.
edit: and yes, netarchy's kernel posted above is a fine example. Flashing that kernel from recovery will improve your performance but once again, if you are running a rooted ROM you may already have a good custom kernel installed.

Rom Help

Hey Guys, just rooted my epic and am really enjoying being able to use the root only apps. I was thinking of putting a custom kernel and rom on it maybe. Are there any good instructions for n00bs and also which one would give me better battery life, stability and maybe a speed boost. stable and battery is more important though.
Thanks

There are at least 3 different kernels you can choose from, I personally use MixUp because it is stock and overclocked (speed boost) and seems to work very smooth. I haven't had any noticeable additional battery drain, and quite possibly maybe have seen slightly better battery life.
This is the link for MixUp, as well as follow the OP original directions for flashing the kernel.

You will also want to bring in ClockWork Recovery -- This is what'll you'll need in order to begin flashing custom roms. Here is the link, and again follow the OP's guidelines for installing.

This version is a one click method, so it's relatively fool proof. Good-Luck.

After stock ...

Hey I was wondering I have been looking at all the roms out there for the EVO and most of the roms have things broken in it. And so I wanted to know if anyone had a suggestion of what Rom I should flash over stock that will give me the most benefit cause I use all the features of the phone , including 4G I just need something complete. Also if that's not possible yet I would like to know what kernel will work best for stock.thanks
You can try fresh Rom it has everything working. I just use rooted stock ROM with kings #11 cfs kernel.
sweet man thanks for the reply how is that kernel?
So far its ok. There are people who sat its not that great and that another version of kings kernel is better... I can't remember the version that was being recommended...
Hey check out MYN RLS2 its sweet! Perfect for anyone wanting to keep sense.

[Q] How do you know when to update?

First I am a n00b. This is my first time rooting anything and while I work in IT, I am far from a developer, I want to thank anyone who is willing to help me...thanks a billion!
Using verygreen's directions I installed CM 7.1 with gingerbread 2.3.7 and kernal 2.6.32.9
1) How do you know when it is time to update?
I went to the links provided on verygreen's forum but looks like the nightly's have not been updated in a while (assuming everyone is focused on 7.2 and cm9)
2) Same question about the Kernal
3) How do I actually update the Kernal, I know the nightlys are just drag and drop. Is that the same with the Kernals?
Are there no more updates for 7.1? Should I be focused on updating to CM9/ics or 7.2?
4) I tried to install supercharger, but when I configure it it gets stuck on the android icon loading screen (once it is configured and reboots), any ideas?
One last question, I set to overclock at 1200 but when I run Quadrant is shows that my nook is running slower than the samsung galaxy phone...any ideas? Is Quadrant accurate?
check rom manager and hit check for updates, it will tell you if there is a new update for your device, backup your current rom and flash ics nightly and see how you like it, and if you want to go back just restore back to cm7, hope this helps
I don't know how much work is still being done in CM7 -- most development seems focused on ICS/CM9. You can follow along in the main CM9 development thread in the dev sub-forum here. Unless I see something big was released, I have just been downloading the latest nightly every week or two lately.
I believe the kernel is always included in the nightly builds, so unless you want a custom one, there shouldn't be anything more required.
I'm not sure about the V6 Supercharger problem. I've run this as well without any issues. I guess double-check all of the instructions for running this.
Finally, for the overclock, I'm personally running 1200 as well with the InteractiveX governor (I believe Dalingrin recommended this). I personally haven't compared benchmarks, but am happy with the performance. You usually do have to take benchmarks with a grain of salt anyway, especially when comparing across different devices. Depending on the actual test, a lot more than just clock speed can affect the results.
I've switched over to the KANG build - he's updated it since the CM7 nightlies have stalled, and over the 3 days that I've used it I really prefer it to n253.
Thanks for your responses
Sorry for the late thanks..I was on a business trip last week (skiing) and work has been crazy this week, but wanted to take the time to thank you all for responding. I really appreciate it. Best wishes. I will def take a look. Cheers!

[Q] ROM / Kernel Needed ~ Please Help!!!

I have had this phone since release and have been flashing ROMs and Kernels to it from the beginning. I mainly bounce on the ROM side from ParanoidAndroid to SlimKat to Purity. I tend to use either AK as a Kernel or a variant of Hells. I want to flash a ROM and Kernel combo that I can stick with (until I grab a Nexus 6 that is). I only need 3 things from any STABLE ROM / Kernel combination but they are non-negotiable in no particular order. Smooth performance, battery longevity and optimal audio quality. I would like whatever combo to be specifically geared towards that if at all possible. I am a junkie / flash addict and need this viscious cycle to end! Haha. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

Thank you. Link please? Also...which Kernel do you recommend out of the two to be used in conjunction with this ROM?
Is this the one?

yes.. Inbuilt kernel is good. or try ak.
Awesome. Thanks for your help. One last thing. Do you have any custom settings for the AK Kernel I can use? I see a lot of people tweaking and optimizing Kernels but never have myself. Perhaps you have something you could share. Anyway, I'll flash your suggestions in a day or two and let you know how it went.
