- Which version of android was on the prototype you tested ? 2.3.1 or the latest 2.3.3?
- How is the web browser on heavy pages ? and withn flash content ? still smooth ?

How is the SGII compared to LG 2X?
Does your SGII have a 1.2 ghz processor? Link: gsmarena.com/samsung_i9100_galaxy_s_ii_dualcore_cpu_will_run_at_12_ghz-news-2491.php
Hey nice work!
Whats about the quality of the case does it feel cheap like SGS I or feels it better? Because the cover for the akku looks always very thin on the pics...
Did you mention anny lag during testing the phone (like slow programmstart or during switching the home screen...)

Is anyone thinking of jumping ship to lenovo ideapad k1? Looks like a nice device almost similar to the tab in specs, less expensive, has netflix app support. Only thing is I don't know how much thicker it is compared to the tab. It also comes with a custom launcher but has an option to disable it.
Suppose to be available from jul 28th, below is the engadget article with video.

Edit: Netflix now works with tab 10.1 as well. Apk can be found on the other thread or google it

I'm about to pre-order one from Lenovo as we speak. I was debating between this and Galaxy Tab, but I'm pretty sure that the build quality of Lenovo's offering will be superior. The only thing that troubles me is the battery life. I've owned two Lenovo noteboks in the past 3 years and, while I enjoy the hardware, the battery life is the weakest feature and definitely lags behind the competition in that department. Maybe they did some tweaking when it comes to tablets, but be warned.
That thing is hideous! Pass!
I don't think lenovo has the good built quality as samsung anymore. They used to have when under IBM. Not anymore.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
it looks gigantic! I guess one could calculate the thickness based on the 3.5 mm jack plug.
EDIT: it's 13.3 mm
Anyone that gets it, please see if you can pull the Netflix APK and share.
the build-quality seems to be quite good, but the overall design of the pad is pretty ugly
I sawt hat this morning, is it me or does something look a little off with the bevel? so yea - pass.
I won't be changing my 10.1 for one.
Just as a quick update to this thread, there is now a working Netflix APK released in the wild for the samsung galaxy tab 10.1. The link is in a thread on these forums, posted today.
This tablet is going to be an instant failure. Its ridiculously THICK at 13.3mm. Its even thicker than the xoom.

sorry cannot post clicky links yet.
Here is a link to the initial unboxing. Overall the device is nice. No the back is not removable and it is a fixed battery. The camera takes decent enough pictures from the rear camera, though I would not want to lug this around as a camera - Droid Charge will remain camera.
The whole 13.3 mm thickness and 0.16 lbs heavier than the Transformer thing eludes me with some other posters. TBH 1.49 to 1.65 lbs is not a gamebreaker in my opinion. And the thickness difference is negligble in my opinion. Where I do see a diffrence in the pad versus others ones on the shelf is the width of the bezel. The Lenovo's bezel is definitely a tad wider. For me this is a good thing as I have big hands, though other users might find this annoying.
The touchscreen is on par with other devices I have touched. Though this is the first one I have actually brought home. The accuracy as I type this is exceptional, with the only mistypes being my own fat fingers.
Start up of the pad is fast with a quick Lenovo banner then the nVidia logo and sexy nVidia girl telling me it's nVidia powered. Once up, the preinstalled aps run crisply and smoothly. Being that this my first tablet with Honeycomb on it I am trial and erroring what apps from the market work. It seems from what I have read it is hit or missip with Honeycomb rit niw in terms if apps.I did get the Netflix app installed though it is not the native app (Lenovo has stated this is not available just yet officially) Full mirroring to the HDMI port works without a hitch and Netflix movies are clear. I am actually impressed with the sound quality as most devices of this size have skimped in terms of sound. The speakers are loud enough to listen to in the car without headphones and the sound us crisp.
Something of note - there are no USB ports or SD card slots. That said there is a SIM card slot of unknown use at this time (unlockable for cellular and 3/4g capabilities???)
My first impression is that getting past the initial transitional from GB to HC will take me some time. The device itself has met or exceeded my expectations in every area I have used it in over the last 24 hours. And, I can see the pad becoming part of my everyday life.
I will post some more pictures of it when I get home.

Can you play MKV's in the stock video player?
The lack of good out-of-the-box video support is what's holding me back from getting a non-exynos version of the sgs2.
This phone is a beast exynos or no exynos processor. if it cant play MKV format movies out of the box there's an app for that. i would really like to see a web browsing experience with the Hercules.

It should be able to as Samsung has a whole bunch of codecs which wouldn't be hard to implement into qualcomm s3 processor. The sound should be better as well compared to the original Samsung galaxy 2. Looks like Samsung can use qualcomm processor to its full potential unlike htc. I will be picking mines up at the store on release date. Now all we need is a forum.

I have had the G2 for well over a year now and recently felt the need for a change. In my opinion the G2 is one of the best physical keyboard phones of its day; the next phone had some big shoes to fill.
Physical keyboard either slide or candy bar style
GSM based
Hspa speeds
Android 2.3 or later
Decent battery life
Not too big
Faster processor than the G2
After searching diligently for the right fit it came down to these two phones:
Motorola pro plus - candy bar style
Larger body
Bigger battery
1Ghz processor
HSPA
Xperia mini pro - slider style
Compact design
Front facing camera
1Ghz processor
HSPA
The reviews for the Motorola Pro plus on youtube were pretty good but not overwhelmingly so.
The Xperia mini pro had a bit more reviews and seemed to hold up well for different types of users.
So i ordered the Xperia mini pro and can say that i am not disappointed. The size and speed of this phone are what set it apart in the physical qwerty domain. The user interface that Sony has layed on top on Android is quite impressive and very intuitive. If your thinking of getting a new qwerty do not hesitate with this one.

Just root and overclock your Vison and done.
Vision's screen is much bigger, the phone is less thick, higher resolution, much more internal storage and so one.....
I don't understand why you didn't just get the xperia pro, which has the same specs, except it has a bigger and higher res screen. Anyway, if he's happy with what he has now, then let him be happy, it was his choice to get a different phone and whether it was an upgrade or not is irrelevant since he's happy with it.
I also see it as a downgrade rather then a move across sideways. The Xperia mini pro replaced the Xperia x10 mini which was very much regarded as a mid range phone. The Desire Z however during its release was regarded as a high end phone and the extra features show that i.e higher resolution screen, Gorilla glass, faster hspda speeds & better battery.
However I can understand why you wanted to update to a newer handset and keep with a physical Qwerty, after all they're becoming instinct :'(
Update almost two weeks using the Xperia mini pro.
So far it has been a really good experience and i have just upgrade to ICS. Battery life has been about average but bought two other Sony batteries for like 20 bucks shipped on amazon. Photos look really good on the phone with outdoor shots captured having amazing vividness. Keyboard is even better than at first, getting used to the layout. See photo below. Keep in mind i could have gone with the samsung captivate glide but really wanted something that fit easily in the hand and was not too bulky... This delivers.

Hey Zarboz you planning on getting one of these?
btw I usually would put more emphasis on touch responsiveness and UI smoothness/consistent framerate as compared to benchmark scores However benchmark scores of this phone do show that it is in a whole other class compared to any other phone out right now... but I guess it is the first of the next generation, just like the One X was
We'll have to see what the rest are like, especially the GS4
For sure sg4 will be plastic as usually, with a bunch of stuff like multi windows, s vocie and so on that i turn off, just to save battery. Really, samy does it cheaper... Also twz is ugly and boring.
Or wait to X Moto phone
SkyDragon Team© No Kangy rom allowed.
Maximum can get quadrant benchmark on my s3 just around 8k

Use phone x, y and z and observe the performance.
My experiences in Quadrant... Transform SDXed out: 500+, Evo Shift OCd 1500ish, EVO3d OCd 3900
Each phone was that much faster for games and real world use, mostly.
The outlier was the Transform, butter smooth on the UI. Better than the EVO3d on the homescreen stock. But totally crap for most anything games.
Yeah... I'm about to jump ship and come back to HTC.

Put it like this. Car A can travel at a maximum speed of 100km/h while car B can travel 150km/h
the numbers are the benchmarks. Car B is faster so car A wins.
The reason why they say benchmarks are useless because let's put Car B to real life use.
Car B has 150km/h speed but would you use it in driving the streets? If yes then good luck on the speed limit cameras.

Well... yes... but there can sometimes be an indirect effect on things like battery life. If a chipset is capable of doing more processing for the same amount of power, that likely means it can do the same amount of processing with less power, which means the battery will last longer.
Also, once apps start to become more demanding in the future - more complex 3D games that come out in a year or so - the phones that are faster in the benchmarks now will be able to play newer games for longer before hitting frame-rates that are too low to be enjoyable.
Think of it as car B having a more powerful engine, which lets it go up steeper hills while carrying the same load.

Disappointment is all I have to say....
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
True bro, sooo true

Possible to get some of these functions ported over to Note 2?
The camera and camera software looks like the biggest enhancement, no mention of cpu or gpu tho.

It's either a 1.9Ghz snapdragon 600 or a 1.6 Ghz exynos 5 octa depending on the region ( it is confirmed). The Galaxy S IV is definitely not worth "upgrading" if you're coming from a note 2. But if you're like me phoneless then it is a great choice!
The S4 is a 'nice' upgrade from the S3, mostly on the software side. Hardware is a modest upgrade. But I would not consider upgrading from my N2 to a S4. N3...we shall see...
Think the LCD touch got great improvement with air touch and even with gloves.Nice for winter
Are any of those features come ti note 2? Camera is better but cpu update is pointless for me now. I really don't game that much and note 2 feels super smooth. Half of those apps could and should come to note 2. Any infos?

What I like:
- Their presentation (Finally something different, not just a guy standing on the stage blabbing about new features. Also stream was good quality and stable)
- New CPU (Although difference would really be only in games - S3/N2 is already incredible smooth. Also I'm not sure about battery usage of the chip. Must be incredibly high with all cores online)
- Air touch (mostly for interacting with mouseover elements on web pages like drop down menus, don't care much about gestures. Still I can pull out S pen on N2 if I find that page, which are thankfully rare nowadays)
- Glove thingy (does it work with thick ski gloves or just thin ones?)
- Smart pause (although it most likely does not work with 3rd party players which makes it useless for me. Maybe xda will step in? (somehow link it to simulating physical pause button))
- Temperature sensor (barometer on N2 is not really useful, at least there are no useful apps for it except for just displaying sensor data. But temperature could be somewhat useful)
What I don't care about:
- Most of the software improvements (mostly gimmicks - things nice to have and show around, but not really that useful.).
What I don't like:
- Pentile screen
So unless you have spare 600 dollars laying around, I don't think its really worth upgrading from either S3 or N2. We have reached point (or we are very near reaching it) where interface on phones is completely smooth and lags are mostly caused by badly written apps or apps waiting for resources (NAND, Internet etc.), so speeding up CPU will not do much, except for games. And things that could make use of that power (voice recognition etc.) are being moved to the cloud.

Pentile again??? pfffff.......... can't wait to se a macro shot of the secreen next to a 5" 1080 non-pentile from the "competitors" . I'm really curious to see if it would suffer from the lower percieved resulution "issue" on such high PPI count. Personnaly i don't find either the s3 or the non pentile N2 to have a sharp screen... hopefully the N3 will come out full hd with RGB.
P.S not a fan of the octa... those 4 low powered cores running the UI might and most surely will cause small stutters, i've already seen some hick-ups on a "hands on" video from the conference, but those phones weren't running the final release software soo... fingers crossed..looks like the days IOS is crushed in smoothness are still to come.....
