Currently my X10a is 1.6 rooted running build R2BA024.
I'm sort of interested in the SE announcement of Gingerbread for the X10. I don't expect Rogers will release it quickly if ever.
What I'd like to do is flash the phone with a generic North American 1.6 ROM. I'd appreciate a link to a version that would work well with the bundle feature of bin4ry's flashtool.
Would I be correct in assuming that if I did that then I should be able to get a generic 2.1 update with SEUS right away and also the Gingerbread generic ROM when it gets released?
I'm thinking that the market should work fine with the generic ROM?
Thanks

why would you ever want to keep 1.6? 2.1 is better in every single way you can imagine. flash the 2.1 rom!

I wanted to go back to stock for that reason since SEUS didn't see an update for my 1.6 in it's current condition.
Anyhow, after all is said and done I went with X10a_2.1update1_r2.1.A.0.435_Generic. Works great just hoping for a quick release on a generic Gingerbread now.
Thanks to all.
yeah hoping that too, maybe we'll get it like 2 weeks after they start the deploy of 2.3

I have an X10 I bought that was with Rogers. I unlocked it and I am using it with Telus.
Since the provider itself is supposed to supply updates, and since Telus doesn't have the X10, how am I supposed to get them?
Thanks guys

I also I'm using a Rogers X10 that I unlocked and rooted using the following guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907, actually I used this guide when it was meant for the upgrade and root for 23 not 24. When I check for updates it tells me that there aren't any even though I know for sure that 24 and 26 are out. What do I do now? I'de like to be ready for the 2.1 upgrade? Can someone please advise? I don't want to lose root when 2.1 comes out then what should be done here?
There is a X10a Latin America Generic that I was using for a while. It doesn't have the automatic APN support so you'll have to set your APN settings manually. I forget where I found it though. This is a generic 026 ROM.
I am currently using the AT&T R2CA016 ROM that I have rooted, decrapified, and re-enabled non-market apps. It seems to the best performance and battery life from all the ROMs I have used. It was pretty amazing what removing the AT&T crap did for the performance of the phone.
The latest from Rogers is 020 no? Therefore.. it wouldn't show any other updates.
I just received an notification for my phone saying I have a system update available. Should I just ignore it, or it is save to do so? Since my phone is rooted and unlocked and I might perform an eng-off, radio and custom rom flash this weekend.

Don't really understand what your trying to say! I would recommend, as Kali himself does, flashing one of the newer radios as they all seem to improve battery life, the most recommended one is Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF although I am currently running Radio_12.28g.60.140f_26.05.05.27_M3

You'll need ENG h-boot if something goes awry in the flashing as it allows you to issue fastboot commands which can save a potentially bricked phone, plus it is the only way you can currently flash the new radio

thanks for your advice
would the efficiency of the radio varies from phone to phone or network to network?
since I am doing this whole process slate clean, which order would u recommend I install them in? roms, radio, kernel?
well, i'd definately do the rom last, as you would probably have to reinstall it after patching a new radio anyway.
Just flashed Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF.
So it doesn't matter if I flash the kernel or the rom first right?

Oh, you're still using 2.2 ? I'm on 2.2.1 from more than 2months and there is a hell of performance & speed difference in 2.2 & 2.2.1.
I would say just keep away from this ginger update as it is not worth to update.
Flash your SGS with JPJPM which is the 2.2.1 Froyo for Arabic region and it includes Arabic/Urdu/Persian. I'm using it and its excellent. You can read/type in urdu and browse all urdu/arabic websites which you can't on those european roms.

I flashed my phone using odin to 2.2.1 but then whenever I check the firmware version it said Csc unkown, but I was getting the signal so I let it be.
Now I'm looking forward for the gingerbread update and kies won't show my firmware version due to the csc problem. How can I update it to 2.3.3 now via odin? Help?

It has no arabic/urdu support bcoz it is released for the european region. And there is no major performance difference in 2.2.1 and this update. So i'm on my 2.2.1 JPJPM which supports urdu/arabic & is very smooth rom just like XXJPY.
We'll have to wait a while b4 they release it for our region
When they release it for our region, i'll switch to that one. Till that time its gud. I didnt find any flaw in this rom except urdu support. It has google maps 3d, new youtube and quite faster than froyo
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Whays quadrant standard rating for JPJPM? and does it have maps 3d?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Well something starnge happened with me. I got through KIES an update yesterday for Gingerbread but did not have time to go through with it. Today KIES shows that my current FW is the latest one. What is wrong here?
get the darkyy patch for arabic.
No idea.. It will take longer as usual..
And you're saying this bcoz you're shifting from 2.2 to 2.3.3. And you did never use 2.2.1.
All those things you're talking about (Maps 3d, New Youtube etc) have been already integrated to 2.2.1.
So for me there is no difference in 2.2.1 & 2.3.3 other than a new visual theme. So i'll stick to JPJPM (Froyo 2.2.1) till they release 2.3.3 for Our region that supports Full arabic/urdu. Asia usually gets update very late compared to European Region.

most likely unless you use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959806 to trick kies into thinking you got a stock one for your refion etc.
I just got this message too, but i highly doubt its gingerbread. Anyone actually find out what the update is?

Same....
Need some confirmation.
I just received the same text from Bell.
There is a new version of keis to install. Once installed it's showing I have the latest firmware at KC1.
Not sure what this is all about. Hopefully a prelude to gingerbread.
same here , hoping someone here can post what this does for them , im not on stock and not really wanting to find out the hard way what it is.
bell.ca/galaxyupdate
So from reading the information, there is no word on exactly what is being upgraded other than software. From speculation, wouldn't that mean it has to be 2.3 at least.
I just got the same text message so I plugged into Kies. It says this is the latest firmware. I upgraded my Kies last night and I am still on stock firmware (KC1). So the wait continues I guess.
I called Samsung support and was told that they were being flooded by calls over this today and that the notification was for the KC1 update. I've been running KC1 for about a month now... Bell Mobilty Canada slack much?

Are you serious?! That makes me so sad.

What a letdown...
Either way, thanks for the confirmation. Now we all know the reason the text was sent out from Bell. Our only hope now is that they (Bell) is trying to push everyone to update their phones to the latest firmware in preparation for Gingerbread.
KC1 compared to JL2?
Need some advice here. I'm still on JL2 (rooted). Thinking about upgrading to KC1, but I hear that doing so wipes out the root, and it's very difficult to root it again on 2.2.1. I also read that some people find the GPS performance went down with KC1.
So what are the actual advantages of upgrading to KC1? Or am I better off just holding out for Gingerbread?

You're misinformed. Rooting 2.2.1 is just as easy as 2.2. But it doesn't matter because KC1 is still 2.2, not 2.2.1.

Honestly, if you are 100% happy with JL2 I don't think KC1 would be worth upgrading to. Wait for Gingerbread or flash JVK/JVB yourself. I believe there are some fixes in regards to how roaming is handled but there's nothing you would actually notice.
The new update is just a modem upgrade that gives support for using this device overseas. It does wipe out root but superoneclick 1.9.1 reroots it easily.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
i assumed it was for KC1 since i never got any notice from them when it first came out. The KC1 modem apparently uses a fair bit more battery and it supposed to improve using your phone in the US.
JS8 with the JL2 modem has been the best to me so far.
If this is the case I won't bother to update to KC1, JL2 works just fine with my rooted ROM .
Does anyone know if Bell is even testing Gingerbread?

I thought it was bell that is slow with the updates. Doesn't bell add their extra stuff for the i9000m specifically? Whatever the case though, someone's definitely dropping the ball on the updates.
I am guessing this might be coming from someone once it's released, but it's been a while since I played with my phone and I'm not that tech savy on the latest on these as things are constantly moving/changing.
I'm running a 2.2 Custom ROM and would like to upgrade to the stock generic 2.3 GB once it's released and I have no clue as to the best way to do this. So once it's out, if we can get a decent step by step how to, that would be great.
Thank you.
i would say use the flashtool thread in the dev section, flash a world generic rom and the corresponding baseband. don't root it or anything like that.
sign in, then connect to pc companion and see if the update hits.
Flash stock 2.1 firmware
update your x10 thru SE software
ensure your phone is rooted and xrecovery installed then wait for pre-rooted gb update to come out on here. It will be almost certainly simply bea case of flashing kernal and baseband using flashtool and custom update using xrecovery.
i certainly would not recommend flashing your phone back to stock 2.1 roms at this point in time - if you update to stock gingerbread then rooting may become more tricky and you may well have to go back to 2.1 rooted before you can get a rooted gingerbread - we simply dont know what security fixes will be included in the gingerbread update - so we dont know how easy it will be to root it once you have updated to stock 2.3
step 1. wait for the rom to launch
step 2. go to the gingerbread thread and read!!

I'm going for this route as well, wait for a flashtools rootable 2.3. But i don't think it will take much long, the x10 gingerbread rom is based on the one SE worked for the Arc and that was rooted pretty quickly, no?
For those still with stock 2.1 i can understand all the excitement, but for me, i've been using a custom rom with basically the same UI and features for a while, I can wait a little longer.

If you are referring to using an easy one-click method to root, then yes you are correct.
But there are other ways to achieve root on 2.3.3 which involves flashing.

Yeah, I was reading the post 2 above this one swearing & shaking my fists, because I'm running j's 2.3.3 rooted rom right now....2.3.3 can be rooted, it's just gonna be a little while before it's a one-click. That's always how it goes
Now that arc, neo, play & x10 are all gonna be 2.3.3, maybe it'll get the ball rolling a little faster on one-click solutions. We do have the largest Xperia dev community in the X10 section, afterall

maybe, but only with an unrooted, unbranded generic 2.1 rom SE says to use PCC, which means it will most likely be available for SEUS, too (IIRC, they use the exact same database for the rom updates)
Good info so far. I might sell my phone (or lend it to a friend) and it would obviously sell best with an OEM 2.3 unlocked ROM which is assumingly bug-free for the most part.
So SEUS looks at what is currently on the phone and repairs it to that?
