I read wondering if anyone figured out, or streamlined a way to change the splash screen. I am sure I could fire up adb, and follow the guides for the EVO using ffmpeg, but I know it would take a bit of time.
Is there a android python port? I'd love that...but I am slowly learning java... so hopefully soon.

Check the theme and app section. There's like 2 threads about custom splashes. One by iriscience and the other by true blue drew.

Thank you! Though before I saw your reply, I decided to "teach myself to fish" instead of just being given one. I went through the whole creation of a splash in photoshop, the conversion of this file to .img, and then ran "fastboot flash ..." in ADB. Worked great, and my splash turned out great--in photoshop at least. For some reason probably having to do with the particular colorspace on the glacier, and/or the colorspace used when ffmpeg converts the image (and probably some college level physics), because while everything looked great in photoshop, when the image boots up, the hue is way off.
I did find some xda threads on a script someone had written and he provided some sample images to use for a custom splash, and they looked good but they also would look good if the hue shifted (e.g. One photo said "MyTouch 4g Rooted", and showed a rather hot girl...with blue hair... She still looked good and I didn't even notice this until I looked closer at his pictures to see if the starting hue was different.
So I will have to quantify the color shift somehow and then change it in photoshop so it comes out looking right when it comes up as the splash. But it was fun.

Make sure that when you do your own that the image size is 480x800.

Ok so before I start to tackle this 100%,I want some thoughts on what I have planned. Ive already made a Frankenstein android bot for the notification backdrop 75% transparincy,on black 50% trans.Ive made several launcherPro icons for the dock.I am also going through each ringtone, notification and alarm and amping them up sound wise and putting an N behind each title indicating it should be used as a notification to increase the sound level just like it was an actual ringtone sound level. Im going to try and keep the theme mostly black, but Ive never been a fan of all one shade of color for all the notification icons,so they will be diffrent, and as the name says,I will pull icons from many ROMs to make this one.I was using Super heroes 2.2.4 as a base, but he has started using Mammons Bonzai4all,so I might switch. But I will tweak it the way I want before I post it up...Any more suggestions or if someone wants to help let me know what you can do,this will not go prime time for atleast 2 weeks,I need to make a boot ani,and shutdown ani,I have the sound bite from Young Frankenstein,Gene Wilder," alive,Its alive,ITS ALIVE" ,look it up,sounds awesome for a startup. And Ive included it as a ringtone,alarm,notification,2 versions for each, one normal, one amped up.
I really want to see how big the interest is for something like this.
I know how fast things get burried arond here,so Ill bump this, wont do that often. But really want to se if there is an interest before I put the real work in...

Interested.... mock-up pics (or actual pics) for more feedback.

Ill put some up soon, just got home. Not much to look at yet,no dialer yet.Ill thow some up.
Ok,I was gonna rush some things just to put up an image or 2,but I ran into a snag, and I dont have enough icons made yet to call it my own,,,so Ill keep working on it,I really wanted to see more than 1 person respond, and maybe offer up some icon help, but Ill do it solo, just gonna take more time,so for now Ill keep it under wraps and wait till FROYO drops to see what changes, then add what I have finished.

Just like when someone wants to create a movie, an art director will throw together a few mockups to peak studio executives interest. To get feedback from this forum it might be easier to paint a picture than to tell a story!

If its frankenstein centric, why not use gingerbread theming as a base since its already green
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I was also thinking about this aswell, but I really dont want it to be a shading theme,I still want it mostly black with some killer icons, but I like some icons from some ROMs.The main reason behind the name is because I planned on pulling things from several ROMs and have slight hints of Frankenstein.I will have alot of Launcher pro Frankenstein icons, but I want the notification icons to be classy I guess, nothing like a Frankenstein head that lights up 4 diffrent colors and the eyes to be red when its at full strength (I thought about that for like a minute). But all in all I want to provide somethings that no one else does, like amping up notification, alarm, ringtones.I know this can be fixed in a system tweak or kernel hack (not yet),but I figured this would be somthing I could do easily. I will continue to tweak my ideas and make sure I put somthing out that shines. If you want your name associated with this just let me know what you can do,main things I need now are a boot ani,and shutdown ani. Everything else I can do. I could use a high res Frankenstein android bot made up as a watermark for the notification backdrop image, the one Ive made is weak, really weak, but I planned on redoing it over the holidays when I can get some free time. I dont want major fame, just want to put somthing out there. I really want this to be a community ROM with ideas from other people,I dont just want to add what everyone else is adding, but ofcourse some things will be a must have feature, but I got used to the new lock screen now after playing with AOSP lock screen again for awhile. So Ill keep the new Sammy version.I find swiping up is easier.

Ill be releasing my first ROM today, not 100% in regard to all the icons I dreamed up just yet, still getting used to gimp compared to photoshop...What is the best place to host the file for free? Testers wanted...

thanks,,,it will have a black themed market, and black themed miui player, plus some other goodies, but it has been stripped down, and it fast and clean,no FC's at all...I know its late in the game for a DK28 rom,but I would love a tester or 2 before I work on the official update.

Is there an app which has the ability to make simple screen adjustment? It would really nice to be able to control the contrast, gamma, etc... If not is there a reason why there isn't?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Any one?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I would like to know this as well. I typically like to raise the contrast higher than the usual default settings for a lot of videos/pictures/displays.
Yeah it would be really nice to have something that could so this. I've searched and searched for a app to do this, but to no avail.
Bump. I am very curious about this.
I've been searching for something like this as well. I've got an i1pro ready and waiting to play
If something like this does exist the phone might need to be rooted to work. Why don't you try posting this in the General Android forum? Maybe you'll have better luck there... and report back here if you learn anything!
There is an app that can change the pixel density but I haven't seen anything to change/control gamma, contrast etc...
Is it possible to change the htc screen when android us booting up from nand.is boring to me I know its in the rom most likely so where in the rom would I have to change it?
Sent from a guy living in a van down by the river
The animated one is bootanimation.zip for nand roms, found in /data/local or /system/media, idk for sure about sd builds boot animations, they may be in the same place.
The screen that shows when you first boot up your device is called the splash screen. These have to be flashed via ruu.updateutility.exe like a rom or radio. Search hd2 wm6.5 themes and apps forum for 'splash'
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Not those ones I already got both of those changed I'm talking about the htc screen before the boot animation right after you bootfrom nand.
Sent from a guy living in a van down by the river
Oh, I know what one you're talking about now. The one that comes with the rom I use matches the boot animation, so I tend to forget that it's a separate thing from the animation. Unfortunately, I don't know where that one is or how to change it. I seem to halfways remember some mention of it being in the initrd.gz , but I could very possibly be wrong.

So any time I try to set a "HD" image as a wallpaper, it blurs and zooms in way too much. I've noticed this is a common issue with honeycomb tablets and have tried the "tricks" to get around it, but no luck. I know you can set wallpapers to look correct as I've seen the screenshots. Any tips on getting this done as the stock wallpapers just don't cut it?

What dimensions and resolution are the images you are trying to use?
Sent from Big Bertha
Been trying 1920x1408 as I've read that was the optimal resolution with the way honeycomb crops wallpaper images. Some look halfway decent, most just look awful. And honestly not sure image dimensions. Just been googling HD images

Search "Multipicture live wallpaper" in your market app.
It will set your images up correctly no matter what resolution they are (provided they aren't super low-res). It's a free app.
Once installed, it comes up as a choice in your regular wallpaper settings.
Sorry, I can't post links up, or I would link directly to the app.
Also, if you have a little photoshop beginning skills, you can make a template where you can overlay your image as a layer, and see exactly where things need to be moved.
When you set wallpaper from Gallery, they use a sizable template, so it will give you a good idea of what the parameters are.

Thanks. I got that and tried. While it does keep the whole image and leaves it without distortion, it is framed inside a black box. But it's better than before lol. Thanks a lot for the suggestion.

Saw this as an option as well by others. Very little Photoshop skills, but I can learn lol. I'd like to use some of the different pics I find and this seems like the best alternative to still be able to use most of the image. Thanks

Yeah, I think I'll try and make a template when I get some free time.
There was a guy who had one a long time ago, in the themes section, but the link to download was broken (he had it on megaupload), and I looked and seems he deleted the thread a week or so ago. Link didn't work, but it had an image of how the template looked (similar when you choose wallpaper from gallery)
I can tell you some things.
1. keep it as a psp so you can keep the layers
2. Remember, it will have several layers. Overall size, portrait, and landscape.
3. Use a different color and transparency for each layer.
4. Also, don't forget the top, bottom, and side borders.
5. Use your image as a new layer, and move it to the back of the template, do you can see what parts are going to be shown in both portrait and landscape. Then you can resize and move around the layer as needed.

Thank you very much for the help. I'll give this a whirl as soon as I can get back to my laptop and have a chance to teach myself a little. I've found a somewhat decent alternative in the meantime, Wallpaper Wizardii. It's not perfect, but it is by far the best results other than making my own. Oh and nice ROM by the way. Thanks for your hard work.

Another great tool that will work for this purpose is Wallpaper Wizardii. It's free and is not a live wallpaper. Lots of options... In your case you should choose the "scale" option if you decide to try the app.

Hi all need help deciding which way to go developing a picture based parts repair form. My first thought was to have the user take the picture then edit photo after its saved by adding a circle or arrow to the parts area in question. The second thought I had would be to use an overlay graphic (arrow or circle) while taking the picture and saved together. While the second option sounds easier its less user friendly I'm thinking. Are there any other options I'm missing? What are your thoughts.. Thanks :banghead:

I figured it out! The easiest way I found was from Aviary. A free/paid image editing SDK @ http://developers.aviary.com
Best feature I liked is you can allow / disallow users different editing tools for your needs.
