Does anyone know why there had been such a dearth of pen-testing apps out for the android? (or am I just in the dark ). Wireshark is nice, but I would think given the future of mobile, and security concerns always on the rise, Android makes a great platform to run countless apps to sniff, manipulate js, xss even.
I mean I would think there would be a scaled down version of metasploit out by now.

Not too many hackers here maybe... Oh well....I might go bother the devs for an opinion if they have one.

This isn't a needless bump... I actually found some interesting apps -- for those who take a fancy to the dark arts.... check out this link:

I originally found the site (the domain) in an XDA portal post from late February.
It's pretty cool... you can grab a lot of different data if you want.....
any update on what you found ?
There are some packages with metasploit, you can run a backtrack 5...etc.

I have an idea for android that could potentially make me millions. However I currently have no experience in coding anything besides basic html templates. Would reading android development for dummies be a good place to start? How complicated is android development?

Picking up a Java Programming for Dummies would also be a good start. The Android Dev site has some good resources aswell, check it out.
I have no knowledge of coding java or android based programs. The official Android development site is kind of complicated. For someone like me I need very clear walkthroughs of the basics until I get the hang of things. Can anyone give me advice or lead me to the right place?
I started off using Greenfoot back when I was a wee little lad. It's probably the most simple way to get into Java and Java concepts.

There is an program currently in beta called App Inventor for people that have Little to no experience with coding. You might want to look into that.

It don't get better than this. 95% of outside sites will either link you back here or have originated here anyway.

How can i port an existing rom?
That's a very broad question..what device was this originally from? what version/flavor of android is this? Etc.

Yeah Nicgraner is right. We need more info to help. Some phones port well to others with little difficulty. Others, not so much.
Google "dsixda rom kitchen"
What you learn may be helpful.

Or go to chef central on here and poke around. Also if this is you trying to get in to deving, read cyanogens post there too.

Well first thank you guys a lot for getting interested in helping me. i know a little bit in basics like rooting and flashing roms but i wanted to know more about how can i make my own rom or at least try to troubleshoot any cooked rom.
Get familiar with logcat, to begin with.
Get familiar with smali/baksmali, decompiling and recompiling Java apps, and Java code for Android in general.
It'll get you half way there.

This is nice although it would've been better placed in the general sub-forum.
I was looking foward to firefox OS when I first heard about it but now I am a bit disappointed. It has the look of IOS but it seems to just be a copy of Android. I was hoping for something original like WebOS or even BB10. If thats the case, why even bother coming out with this?
Although I am sure that Mozilla will try (and even succeed) in making FFOS faster than android, i doubt it will ever receive the same amount of support as android so I will most likely never buy an FFOS phone. Also I love all of the google apps on android.
Only time will tell if mozilla's new OS has real potential.
You are not developing anything here

I seen Tex posted this in the Rom Request thread and it's amazing.... You should check it out.
Rumor has it that the HTC one m8 will soon have Windows 8.1 on it. I personally do not agree with this. What do you think?

what's wrong with choice...
from my side (the wm/wp side of me if you know what i mean)...
i can't wait to be able to load wp81 on this baby.
if the windows app store was up to snuff, it would be an interesting option, but since its not, I can't imagine a lot of interest in this..
strange that htc would go this route, but I guess from where they sit, its worth a shot..

I'm not so sure you'll be able to switch between the two. Happy for someone to correct me.
The lack of apps and closed source OS would bug me though. (The closed source probably being the same reason unless you buy an M8 windows phone, you won't be getting it)

Thread closed as this is an off topic thread. It would be better to post things like this in the OT forum until a dedicated forum is created.
If there is a windows 8.1 m8 it would probably have to be a completely separate phone as the two operating systems are very different.
Many thanks,
Ghost
