Rumor has it that the HTC one m8 will soon have Windows 8.1 on it. I personally do not agree with this. What do you think?

what's wrong with choice...
from my side (the wm/wp side of me if you know what i mean)...
i can't wait to be able to load wp81 on this baby.
if the windows app store was up to snuff, it would be an interesting option, but since its not, I can't imagine a lot of interest in this..
strange that htc would go this route, but I guess from where they sit, its worth a shot..

I'm not so sure you'll be able to switch between the two. Happy for someone to correct me.
The lack of apps and closed source OS would bug me though. (The closed source probably being the same reason unless you buy an M8 windows phone, you won't be getting it)

Thread closed as this is an off topic thread. It would be better to post things like this in the OT forum until a dedicated forum is created.
If there is a windows 8.1 m8 it would probably have to be a completely separate phone as the two operating systems are very different.
Many thanks,
Ghost

This is nice although it would've been better placed in the general sub-forum.
I was looking foward to firefox OS when I first heard about it but now I am a bit disappointed. It has the look of IOS but it seems to just be a copy of Android. I was hoping for something original like WebOS or even BB10. If thats the case, why even bother coming out with this?
Although I am sure that Mozilla will try (and even succeed) in making FFOS faster than android, i doubt it will ever receive the same amount of support as android so I will most likely never buy an FFOS phone. Also I love all of the google apps on android.
Only time will tell if mozilla's new OS has real potential.

No one is making you a rom, and you were likely ignored in the right section because it's a dumb question (that's been asked an obnoxiously high number of times) that could have been answered with a simple search.

To continue, windows phone 8 is closed source and so were not legally allowed to mess around with it like we can android.

Exactly......If you want a rom then I think android is your best choice.
Don't post in the wron forum next time
To be fair, devs made (and still make, or at least update) a ton of WinMo and WP7 ROMs, which are also closed-source (although the WinMo kernel source is available). There will probably eventually be ROMs for WP8, but please, stick to the correct forums for asking!
I've recently bought my Nexus 7 32GB Wifi, and I'm kinda flashaholic... And since I'm new to this device, I don't really know which ROMs are the best... As I've seen, most of the ROM OPs do not post ROM-bugs, which I find pretty frustrating, so I'll give you guys a list over things I'm looking for (I think you know more great ROMs than me, since I've just had my Nexus for 4 days!).
I like the stock ROM very much because of its stability, but I miss some customizations!
Okay, here's the list over what I'm looking for:
-A very stable and bugless (almost) ROM!
-A well-featured ROM with many customizations...
-A fast and powerfull ROM which don't shorten my tablets lifetime! (I'm thinking of no under/overvoltage, etc...
-And ofc... Android 4.2.1+
-The ability to place any widget on the lockscreen!
-Good battery-life!
Don't hate me if I want too much...
Thanks!

Which food should you like? What color should be your favorite? Like the subject matter of your post, no one can, or should, answer these questions but you. Test drive some and see what YOU like best... see what performs best on your unique hardware.

I totally agree to the above opinion. To select your ROM, the following thread may help you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36018963
If this is your 1st time to flash a custom ROM, i recommend CyanogenMod or AOKP. If you're looking for ROMs for tablet UI, please try ParanoidAndroid or SGT7.
Anyway ,try many ROMs to find out your favorite. enjoy
Seriously? If you scroll down just a little, you will see 1000 people who asked the same question. Read those. People starting new threads to ask this exact question twice every day insane, and has to be bad for server space. The devs take alot of time to write out exactly what their rom offers, bugs, pros and cons so you can be educated. To not read them and take the lazy route and srart a new thread is disrespectful to their efforts. Sorry, but after seeing this same thing so many times, it gets rediculous.

The issue is that thread such this are tiredly pointless. No one but you can answer your question. The only rom that you should choose is the one that you try for yourself and; ends up being what you like. No one is clairvoyant enough to predict what will give you the feature set you'll be happiest with or how a given rom will perform on your unique hardware.
The mods invariably lock these threads a soon as they catch wind of them for this very reason. I imagine the only reason it survived as long as it has is only because it hasn't popped up on their radar yet.
Rather than wasting your time and energy asking what you should choose, go to the Dev forum, read up on some of the offerings available, and then test drive the ones that pique your interest until you find the one that satisfies you.
No hate- just sound, practical advice.

Is it possible that all these amazing devs, none of them can come up with some original idea? 5 years, same old cm features.

Hi,
Develops and compile your own rom with what you want in it... with your original idea... but where are they?
Criticism is good but it must be constructive, submit your ideas to the CM team or to any other devs..., I'm sure you have many original ideas with a thread like this one...
You like these kind of threads, right?

I would rather not "develop" anything than uploading some rom that simply changes the way the settings in the menu are sorted. I understand it hurts you, but that is the truth. CM has been the same for 5 years and consequently all the "original" roms based on it are exact same stuff. PA and moles and his team are the only ones that have come up with something interesting. The rest simply keep posting the same rom in different devices for 5 years now.

Woah dude seriously? All the hard work devs put in and you cant even be grateful for what you get. All these brilliant roms you get for free as well. It's not as easy as just thinking of an idea and putting it in, things are much more complex than that. By all means suggest things but don't criticise, that's uncool

Maybe you should check out the newest features of aospa. Their per app dpi and color with the new toggle is the best new feature I've seen.

I agree. In fact, I mentioned that moles is the only one bringing something innovative. I also know that the PA team got something cool and refreshing for us in the future. That is what users want to see I believe.

one problem is the versions of android. every time android is updated, the cm team starts off from scratch. many of the same old features from previous versions, has to be made compatible with the newer version. this takes time. the cm devs dont do this full time, they do it on their spare time. by the time everything is up and running, another version of android is up, and they start from scratch again. there are a few new features added here and there, but this all takes time. and i want to correct you, there are many features that were added since the original cm, its not the same for every android version. also, some features have disappeared because android doesnt allow them anymore.
Why not become one of these amazing developers and bring some of your original ideas. Vice creating a thread of this manner....Thread Closed & Thank You.
At some point in the near future the Sailfish launcher for Android will come out so that we can try it as a launcher on our Android phones before we install it on our phone as an OS.
I have some questions about it. First is when (within a 2 month time frame)? Second is how often will it update after the actual OS update? Will it follow a month behind? I have more questions.
I started a question on it at together.Jolla.com
Please sign up for an account there and up vote my question if you would like Jolla to answer.

I couldn't completely understand your questions (the OS or Launcher) but I'll try to answer as much as I can.
The launcher will arrive soon. Maybe a month. Since it's a basic launcher it will not get frequent & constant updates especially after the OS launch. Instead you can just flash to the OS itself to get more updates.
Regarding your other questions:
2. I think you're talking about the launcher. It will probably run on most Android devices. They have probably thought about the resolutions as well. The launcher will look and feel like the Sailfish's homescreens.
3. Don't know about the cover gestures. It's unlikely that the launcher will have active covers but still recent used apps will look like covers.
4. The launcher will probably guide you so don't worry. Also it's not that hard to learn it trust me .
Looking forward to the launcher. Should be cool. Just hope I'll be able to run it in my HTC
