hello everyone can someone tell me how is the call volume on atrix? is it low like sony ericsson x10? i really want to get this phone but cant decide between this and nexus s and arc. and i live in canada. and does atrix in canada really crappy? like people here says or is it only the at&t version.
I have the AT&T version and I don't have a problem with the volume, but some people say that I sound a little garbled but still clear enough to have conversation without repeating anything.
I find the call quality the same, if not, better than my iphone 4 - and on par with my Nexus S
All volumes on the Atrix are the best of any phone I have ever owned. On some phones I had to run call and speakerphone volume full. On Atrix, I run them at about 50%, turning them up (way up) only when in a noisy situation. It is more distorted at max volume (as one would expect) but at normal volumes it is fine.
I have the Bell version of the phone and the call volumes are actually very loud. I have it on 50% and it is very loud and clear. Voice quality has been excellent on my phone so far. I am coming from an Nokia N97 and this phone is simply several notches better in terms of call quality and clarity.
I have no probleme with volume, but have in quality sound :S
I find the speaker phone sound quality out to recipient leaves a bit to be desired...

The Atrix's speaker and volume is in another league compared to my Nexus One. When I called my friends, they were surprised that I was calling from a cell phone. They register the call as clear and crisp without much background noise (I'm in a noisy room though). On my end, I have to lower the volume of the phone cause max is just too loud. If you use your phone for the functionality of a phone, then definitely look into the Atrix. You can actually go into a Bell store and try their model phone out and call a friend to see how good it is Just be warn that the camera leaves much to be desired, lol.
The Atrix is the first smartphone that I have had that pleased me as much as a phone as it did as a gadget. I have had Motorola MPX220 (flip) windows phone, Motorola Q9H (2 different times) Google Nexus One, Dell Streak, and finally the Atrix. I love the Atrix the best of them all.
Hi All,
I'm looking for a replacement for my battered Galaxy S3.
The Sony Xperia range attracts me because of it's water resistant feature - I use my phone outdoors a lot.
I have looked at the Z1 and Z1 compact but the major thing putting me off buying is reports of poor audio quality through the earphones.
I had the original Galaxy and also now the S3 and something the both had in common was excellent audio quality (Wolfson DAC).
I have read plenty of stuff on the web about the noise cancelling abilities of the Z2 but nothing about the audio quality itself.
Anyone out there care to enlighten me?
Thanks
I am thinking same thing. My I9300 is still OK, but ... Problem is I have yet to hear a Qualcomm phone with exceptional audio. But maybe. Or maybe if there is a big iphone...
One of my gripes with sony phones since the xperia play/arc/arc s is the audio volume, on the xperia s/t/z/z1 is not loud enough atall never mind loud speaker peeformance
I'm having similar worries, also coming from SGS3. I'm just about to get the Dunu DN-1000 iems and wondering if the Z2 will give the output they deserve. Waiting to hear about this.

I'm happy with the sound from my Xperia Z using Ortofon e-Q7. I think having high efficiency iems helps keep the distortion low, as there is no need to turn it up to max volume.
What do you think about this features?

Can this be ported to the Z2 or is this feature hardware related?
Sent from my Xperia Z1
Really would like to know if sony have made the headphone volume louder.
Trust me, I've tried it out and it's definitely A LOT louder than the z2 on both sound quality wise and also notifications.

Somewhere, I read there is built in amplifiers, so that means it's hardware.

Sony been taking a page out of HTC one M8 this is the Harmon Kardon option. IMO its pretty good, can be artificial sometime with the H/K on.
I had the chance to play with the Z3 today, the sound quality is really top notch, better than Z2 but they didn't increase the volume [emoji20]
So if you have one of those big headphones the volume won't be loud enough [emoji23]

I agree G1.......... I have the regular HTC One M8 (T-Mobile) but I rooted and S-OFF'd it, so I was able to install the H/K mod for it, and it does improve the sound quality. And yes, I agree that Sony is seemingly using that same technology for the Z3, and that's fine by me! lol Not sure if I will switch or not in October. Maybe. Maybe not. My M8 being rooted and S-OFF'd has taken it from very good to fantastic! But I do love Sony, and that Xperia glass/metal combo is as gorgeous as any smartphone as ever been. The M8 is a close close second though........brushed aluminum is gorgeous too.
So you really think H/K's sound is artificial? Do you think the Z3's will be too or no? Why or why not?

Mazellat,
I think those features are great, and just like what Harman/Kardon did to the M8 (my current phone, non-H/K version though, but I have that H/K mod on it). It's a 2-pronged attack, and I'm ALL for it!
But ppl, we gotta get something figured out........... is the Z3 louder than the Z2 or not? 1 person so far said def yes, and another said no. So which is it?! lol

The speakers are louder, loudness though headphones however it's like the Z2

Hi Jiyeon,
I see. Interesting!
Regarding the headphone volume, when you say it's "like the Z2", do you mean it's fine but could be louder, or is it simply that it just isn't loud enough?
Thank You,

I tried the sound using the MDR 10RC and for me it wasn't loud enough. But when using smaller headphones loudness won't be a problem

That's great news on the speakers. How much louder are the speakers than the Z2's? M8 type volume or less?

I usually listen either from the speakers or else in my car using an audio cable. Since the volume in my car can go very high, I'm guessing it won't be an issue for me either. If I do get it, I'll maybe also get the noise-cancelling speakers separately (http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en.../digital-noise-cancelling-headset-mdr-nc31em/) that came with the Z2 internationally (though here in the U.S. they don't for some stupid reason). They're made exclusively for the Xperia phones. They have tiny mics on them to record the "unwanted outside noise" and then they send that to the Xperia phone which uses a special logarithm to create a "noise" that's completely the opposite to counter the outside noise............thereby cancelling the outside noise. Genius! lol
This graph visually shows what I just stated: http://www.mega.pk/js/fileman/Uploa...aves-6ebb58abc11f46cba031e01bbb1db74b-460.jpg

The phone was in a store so I didn't really get to try the volume through speakers properly, all I can say is that I found it better than the Z2 speakers, on the other hand the Z3 compact speakers weren't as loud as the Z3
Z3 decibel level review & comparison
Jiyeon and everyone,
This article offers some nice insight on the sound, especially page 3. You can compare the max decibel (db) levels of various phones:
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Sony-Xperia-Z3-Review_id3795/page/3
Scroll down to "Audio Output", which is just under "Multimedia". From there, add the HTC One M8 (my current phone) and Sony Xperia Z2 to see. Or see below:
AUDIO OUTPUT
LOUDSPEAKER LOUDNESS (DB)
HIGHER IS BETTER
Samsung Galaxy S5 81
LG G3 81
HTC One (M8) 75.2
Sony Xperia Z3 74
Sony Xperia Z2 71
So yeah, the speakers are definitely louder on the Z3 than the Z2, and surprisingly (at least to me) about neck-and-neck with the M8's. Even though the S5 and G3's speakers are louder, keep in mind that both the S5 & G3 only have one LONE speaker IN THE BACK lol, so they both kinda have to be louder to make up for the bad placements. I had the G2 before and it had 2 bottom-facing stereo speakers. LG was stupid to degrade that on the G3.
What do you guys think? I guess that increase in speaker volume doesn't equate to louder earphone volume, per Jiyeon's post. Are there any GOOD apps out there that increase the volume without causing distortion that any one knows of? I may try the Z3's earphone volume out and decide it's fine, but if not, it would be nice to know I had a backup plan. lol
Thanks,
RockStar2005
After hearing the volume level still remain average and seeing on phone arena that the amp output being .30 for the Z3 means it is going to be as loud as the Z2 and Z1 and Z before it, which isn't loud enough for me. So no z3 for me which is a shame.

Hey RCJ,
Where did you see that it was average? In my last post the max db level of the Z3 was only 1.2 decibels lower than the M8's. I have the M8, and let me tell you, it'd LOUD & CLEAR too! lol
In case you missed my last post, here is just an excerpt with a lil extra added in:
AUDIO OUTPUT
LOUDSPEAKER LOUDNESS (DB)
(HIGHER IS BETTER, though not always clearer lol)
Samsung Galaxy S5 81
LG G3 81
HTC One (M8) 75.2
Sony Xperia Z3 74
Sony Xperia Z2 71
Sony Xperia Z1 68
Sony Xperia Z 67

I've talked to at least one person on here who said the S5 and G3 also have distortion at max volume, where the One and Xperia phones do not.

I was talking about in headphones not loud speaker, I couldn't care less whether its single speaker or stereo speaker as I only use my phones speaker for incoming calls/notifications/alarm and occasionally loudspeaker so as long it is loud enough.
Headphone volume is more important to me as I listen to musci in headphones alot and the z-z3 are not loud enough, they are all the same.

Ahh ok. I don't use it for that much, more in-car listening than anything. But in-car I can blast the volume no matter what.

I have the same aswell I can turn the car volume up louder but if the phone was louder itself, it would boost the bass aswell.
When I had the Z, Z1 & S4. When playing music in the car via the AUX cable as my car then didn't have bluetooth the S4 was quite a bit louder than the other two which meant I didn't have to turn the stereo up so loud especially to get the bass.
Hello Ive been also a user of Z3.That time also I found this mod very useful
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2889964
Both speaker on incoming calls, while playing games, videos
I don't have the expertise to do so.But of someone who can implement this would be a very great achievement. As we know the speaker of opt is not so satisfactory
Would be very thankful also.
You're trying to figure out a way to enable 2 speakers on the Oneplus2?
The OnePlus2 only has one speaker.
Yes earpiece speaker to with lesser volume of course. Was ported to Z2 too.
Nexus 5 had this mod too
