This is the second time I flash my Vibrant with a ROM from TW's I used nero v3 for about 3 days before I killed my phone trying to flash the JL5 file. Since I'm a noob on this I started reading users comments and rules on flashing. So I went on the hunt for a good stable ROM for my phone since the stock 2.1 is kind of crappy and laggy. After two days. Searching on XDA I came across another Team Wiskey ROM from the bionix series (Bionix v 1.3.1). This ROM is way more stable than Nero, everything works great, no problems with connection or apps, and even though im not using Voodoo the benchmarks are really good at 1400. I still have a lot to learn in flashing and modifications for this kind of phones I'm just glad that this forum is well equipped with information.
Some pics of how the phone looks after I get the necessary permission to post them

suggestion, try not to include your personal life into this.
You need more info than just its stable and high quadrant scores.
This wouldn't be considered more than a peronsal experience.
Hope you make a better more organized one.
Also try doing it on newer roms
Bionix v is pretty old.
Thanks for the advice man. Will try the new ones once I get more info and practice

No problem, give things like... Battery life (make sure you say if your using it light, moderate, or heavy) how the theme looks, how fast it is, any FC's or any problems at all you experienced, and i wouldn't rely on Quadrant.
Most importantly, at the top of every review put "THIS IS A PERSONAL EXPERIENCED-ROM AND EXPERIENCES WILL DIFFER" or something or when you say you got like 60 hours of battery and others get 16 hours... everyone's going to be real pissed at you.
I started a similar thing a month ago, text/video reviews, soon i got hooked into a rom and couldn't move on, so the thread went dead, and i kept the rom, being a reviewer is hard. Everytime a new ROm is out, you must review it, every update etc.
Very good tomorrow I'll post a full review of this rom, I'll PM u to let u know when I post it.

What are the major differences with Nero vs Bionix V? I'm currently running Bionix V (w/ TW) and its awesome minus the battery life. Here are my list of issues:
- Sometimes the wifi antenna doesnt like to turn on from the notification bar. Have to manually go to settings. 4 out of 10 times.
- Sometimes when using wifi, phone call quality is horrible. Rare though but does happen only when i receive calls. RARELY though....
- Launcher Pro appears frozen at boot. Have to open task manager and restart Launcher Pro. Dont think its a the rom though.... Happens everytime.
But an awesome ROM! One question I have for you all...... Any other TW based roms out there that are anywhere close to as smooth as Bionix V worth trying? Thanx!

I love my epic but am terrified of bricking my phone. 2.1 is incredibly stable and was wondering if there was a 2.2 rom that someone like me could flash that was also extremly stable. I dont want to lose my epic , however I am kinda tired waiting. P.S yes I really people have asked this before however maybe things have changed ad one rom has become better than others. I am new and kinda scared to be honest, so please play nice
I like the Frankestein ROM because it is a blank slate.
Nebula rom is running as smooth as Cm6 for me right now doesn't show on quadrant but i can feel it and it is very stable.
And im loosing about 2% battery every hour.
I'm running nebula 1.0.7 and its silky smooth. Not one force close.

I was the same way as you about 2 weeks ago. scared to brick my phone. i started with Odin and the stock DK28.
But last week, I decided to try the SuperNova 1.6 and so far I am happy with it. But still afraid to try other community ROMs.
Here's another vote to Nebula 1.0.7. It runs incredibly smooth, quick, and stable. Been running Nebula for a few weeks without a hitch.
Nebula 1.0.7 has been running very smooth for me also
+1 to nebula 1.0.7 been using it since the first one. Stable fast and no fc.

I've tried all the roms out here on xda, and Nothing so far comes close to Nebula ROM. I was running Nebula 1.0.6 since it was out on 1/2/2011 and no issues other then having a corrupted file system due to using the 3 button reboot. (don't use it ...there is a good chance it will mess up your phone, just not sure why it does it)
Yesterday right before going to Nebula 1.0.7, I've flashed all the different ROMS out to see how they are. After a bunch of testing I've decided to stay with Nebula.
All I can say is perfect! Its so smooth and fast that as soon as you boot up you notice the difference right away. I know Qudrant scores and other bench scores dont mean much but I've gotten my highest when using Nebula which was almost 1800 on Quarant and 1165/2686 Smartbench 2010. I've seen others get higher using other ROMS out there but for me it never felt as smooth/fast and responsive as Nebula ROM.
I too was scared and decided to go with the one that answers the most questions in a positive manner, in English (meaning I can understand, not literally) and have had great success with Midnight and TrulyEpic Rebirth.
These are smooth, stable, quick, great battery, allow you to add on the things
you want or miss, with links to add-ons, as well as you can theme them (that was my next big step).
So if you are on cw3, be sure to make a backup, you can flash back to that, then feel free to try them, see if you like layout and use. You can always go back if you make a backup then restore. Otherwise if you don't, its back to step 1.
Also, do you read Android Central - there is a lot of good info over there, a lot is in less techie terms (meaning English) with easy to understand directions.
Everyone starts somewhere, its building a comfort with someone to help just in case
I'm currently on Viper Rom (4.0.3 I think) with the Nexus S boot animation and a the DK28 Gingerbread Theme.
I've tried Supernova, Bonsai and stock DK28. I've found them all to be just as "stable" as 2.1. It's looking like I'll be trying Nebula next, given the support here. Great thing is, it takes about 10 minutes to switch between them if you want to try something different.
Lots of good devs, lots of good ROMs. Try them all.
Quantum has been very stable for me. I like the 'stock' and functional feel of Quantum (and Nebula). Can't go wrong with either of them.
Scored 1188/2697 using SmartBench.
thanks to DEVs for all the good ROMs.

I'll give a vote for my rom. Its a simple dk28 based rom. I just stripped a bunch of garbage from it, added a couple apps (that will probably eventually go away), added my aosp dvm, and changed from tw to a lighter launcher zeam.
Its not themed as themes can be heavy and slow, and introduce bugs. Try it. I can promise you it runs as fast if not faster than any of the main ones out there.

I would really give Nebula 1.07 a shot. I love it - it's nothing fancy, but fast and stable. I just upgraded from Nebula 1.05 last night and the new version seems even faster - definitely improved my Smartbench 2010 scores since it moved to EXT4.
I'm running Bonzai4All. Love it. Smooth install, no issues. Got 1987 on Quadrant, if you follow that.

Hello fellow XDA members. I have become obsessed with flashing Roms lately so I wanted to start this thread to figure out which Rom to flash next for my Epic.
So here is my question, What is the Best Rom in your opinion and why? It can be any Epic rom and for any reason(stable, fast, battery life, etc) The more reasons the better. So answer below and we can have a good discussion of this as well. I am not trying to promote or put down any Roms this is just for my use, and perhaps others that don't know which one to use next. I will probably start a poll soon too.
If you like flashing so much, just try them all, stay with one for a while and keep the one you like the most... not everyone has the same experiences with ROMs and peoples opinions differ. Just try them yourself.

I know that, and I plan to do so. I just figured this would be a good discussion thread, for the general discussion thread.
The opinions of the users matter when it comes to Roms. So I thought it would be nice for a place to compare and contrast what each Roms are missing and what they are bringing to the table.
Personally i like syndicates frozen rom with impalers keyboard patch but then love midnights byor because its empty of bull**** pretty much but find bonsai to be effiecient so its hard to really choose between them all and with the right kernel but right now im running syndicates 1.1.0 with visionkernel 1.4ghz setup

Stock.
It's stable. Battery life is good after removing bloat, freezing DRM, and deleting SNS.
FROZEN 1.1. works for me.. Tried the others, but find this to be the best for me.
Not only is the ROM top notch, but it has the best support out there. Those guys are right on it when someone has a problem, and they show such patience when dealing with the same question for the 1000th time..
SyndicateRom Frozen version 1.0.2.
I run the old version because it seems to run faster, and I have less problems with it. (please don't respond and tell me how I'm wrong and/or how to fix it. I am so incredibly happy with 1.0.2 that I will likely never change to a different froyo rom.)
+1 for ACS. I thought I was happy on Bonsai, then I started seeing more themes for ACS rather than Bonsai so I switched and haven't looked back. Better battery life and easy auto-backup/restore are my main points.
The one con is I'm no longer stable at 100mhz. Hoping a kernal update will fix this soon.

I like ACS syndicate as well and is what I am running.
Also Bonsai 4 is good, use one of those 2.
ACS doesn't have both wired & wireless tether working really, but is supposed to next version.

Bonsai!
Its been the most stable, great speed, everything seems smooth, and it back ups data.
I love it!
I'm done with roms...back when I was on stock EB13 with a few modifications, (Ext4, custom kernal, overclocked) my phone was running BEAUTIFULLY. No issues at all whatsoever. Then I got convinced to flash a custom ROM when EC05 dropped. So I did it. I've tried Syndicate, Midnight and Viper and none of which ran as smoothly as my stock phone with a few modifications. Syndicate gave me FC's left and right, all day and all night. I tried wiping and reflashing several times...no dice...
Midnight gave me HORRIBLE battery life and random reboots. When I would press my power key to turn it off, my phone would freeze...then I would get a black screen with my keypad lit and the bottom touch buttons lit...but no option to turn my phone off. It would just vibrate periodically until I did a battery pull. I would then power the phone back up only to be introduced to the Setup Wizard each time and forced to log into my gmail. Again...I tried wipes and reflashing. That helped the setup wizard issue...but not the power down issue or the random reboots.
Viper...battery life was better. But the lag seemed too severe to justify after I had been spoiled on FLAWLESS performance.
So I plan on going back to EC05...completely stock and do my own thing from there. I've had nothing but bad luck on the custom ROM scene. I greatly respect and appreciate everything the devs are doing...but the custom ROMS are just not for me. I depend on my phone too greatly to have these issues reoccuring.
I would have to agree I like syndicate rom frozen. I haven't tied many but I like this one. it's very stable. No force closes or anything .
Samsung Epic 4g
I have tried syndicate (still have my backup should I want to reflash) it was nice, but I am currently am using red beast and the genocide kernel and my phone is running smoother than I thought possible. syndicate is great, but this rom is great too, and soooo beautiful lol

Nebula has been a great and consistent rom through several releases. I will go back as soon as the ec05 version is ready. Testing out viper rom right now to see what eb13 is like, and thoroughly enjoying it. Pretty zippy and stable but seemed "bulky" with viper mods/addons out of the gate..... some are useful.
have any of you who previously have installed bionix 1.3.1 converted to another rom and stuck with it? if so, which, and why?
I've tried others including Bionix-v 1.3.2 test and Bionix Next Gen. I keep going back to 1.3.1. I just prefer it. It's simple and effective and does what it's supposed to.
I flashed a 2.2.1 ROM (Bi-Winning) and loved the speed and the hardware acceleration in the browser, and the battery life was pretty similar to Bionix-v 1.3.1, so I decided to keep it. I tried going back to 2.2 roms like B-v 1.3.1 and Trigger 2.0.1 but there were just little things that made me go back to Bi-Winning.
YMMV, but as much I love TW's roms I just can't leave 2.2.1.
Still using bionix 1.3.1 and never try other.
it is so stable and I dont want to test any others.
Dev section is flooded with new roms which is hard to try one by one.
I really want a 2.3 rom but GPS is needed for me.
Any 2.3 rom has a chance to have a working GPS? or simply all 2.3 roms have dead GPS at all?
I've always been a Bionix fan, but I tried out Trigger 3.2 today, and it just FLEW compared to Bionix 1.3.1 for me.
I also love Trigger's theme, and the font they use.
This is the first ROM that is actually better then Bionix for me, and I'm sticking with it.
Switched from bionix to trigger and never looked back.

Same here, switched from Bionix to Trigger. The best move i've made. Trigger is the natural successor of Bionix. go ahead install trigger and you will be happy.
I'm another Trigger convert for a stable 2.2.
I switched to trigger 3.1 for a while. It is a very nice rom, once nextgen came out I had to try it. This rom is great! Very fast. Loving it

Yes....I went from Bionix 1.3.1 to Bionix 1.3.2. It's insanely fast and never flashing anything again until a very good 2.3 Rom comes out where you dont have to jump through hoops to flash and are as good as 2.2 roms. And this won't happen until an official 2.3 rom leaks for the vibrant and then devs have a a few weeks to tinker with it. Until then, Bionix 1.3.2 is super fast and no bugs.
nope. stuck with it + overstock (no oc).
stable + battery life through the roof
i'll convert when we get a GB
I was a long time TeamWhiskey fan. Their roms are still amazing, but as an upgrade junky, when they stopped with 2.2(1.3 and nexgen) and 2.2.1(frost), there hasnt been much lately. Frost wasnt as good as I had hoped. Now I am currently back and forth trying newer 2.2.1 and 2.3.4 roms...patiently awaiting cm7!!!
I used TW roms for a while, but always had a random problem of all sounds stop working, and would need to reboot to fix. Switched to trigger as well, and hav not looked back.
I saw the thread and though I would pop in to say Trigger . . . but after reading the thread that seems like I would just be throwing fuel on the fire.

lol, I am going to try Trigger now cox I cannot get into the call setting in my bionix 1.3.1 all in sudden.
Hope I will be one of them instead of you
I tried Trigger 3, was happy with it, better than Bionix. But then BiWinning got my heart, together with the Bali kernel. It's just so fast and responsive.
you guys should try trigger 3.2 with bullet . you will never go back lol
I was a faithful Team Whiskey user until CM7 came out for vibrant, then I jumped ship and never looked back. I don't use GPS and I always keep a charger with me so bad battery life and no GPS didn't faze me.
I used TW roms up until they stopped updating them after 1.3.1... i switched to Trigger and Im happy with it... hopefully we'll see something worth while from TW soon

I'm currently on NextGen. But I've been considering going back to 1.3.1
Edit: I"m currently looking/waiting for a GB rom with working GPS
Im sure we all have this problem at one point or another...
For me I fell in love with [2.3.5 Trigger] rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156123
Its blazing fast, love the overlay, and its gingerbread goodness... On the other hand I have audio issues with the rom, where it literally blows my ear drums out each time I use my headset... I also get random crazy battery drains.
So I then have to step back and find a new favorite... and to be honest, it been hard.
I am currently on Bionix-v 1.3.1, its clean, stable.. holds battery like no other, but the overlay reeks of my old school official froyo...
*I want better launcher settings... ADW is getting there, but a bit frustrating...
Then I have the issues of stepping back on a stable build, vs the latest and greatest...
How do you find that balance, for you needs?
Any suggestions?
Just gotta keep looking for what you want. For me i have to have q rom thats good on battery, smooth, and gb themed. So i run bionix v 1.3.1 with bali 1.8.8
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Keep a few alternates around, and flash away. For me, I love Project V and Trigger for froyo when I'm feeling that gps and compass are very important... plus themes of course, running on either bali 1.8.8uv or overstock.
When I realize that I can still have acceptable
gps plus a quicker overall experience, then I hop back on SH 3.8 with a 1.42 kernel via cmenard (what I'm currently on). I've tried them all at one point or another, but for me, these are my favorites and work the best for me. Just keep lots of nandroids around and organized!

Bi-Winning V3 is a really good ROM, its 2.2.1 and the battery is like amazing! GPS is stable and performance is great. It comes with the bullet Kernal, but people say they can even more battery life with the Bali 1.8.8UV Kernal too. But anyway, this ROM is very excellent!!

I tried a lot of different roms before I landed on Bionix 1.3.1 also. That rom imo had the best battery life, stock kernel or not.
For me when I was looking for a newer rom the first thing I did was look at the ones that were said to have the best battery life at stock and which kernels worked best with it after. Problem with listening to statements like that was not knowing exactly how much use people were putting on the device.
All I needed was a rom that was of course stable, without excessive bugs, and had battery that would last from when I left my house til I got back home at night. Not to say the phone would get charged anytime during the day.
What's up guys. I flashed some roms a few months ago and kinda just stuck with Team Whiskeys Bionix V 1.3.1. It was snappy and had great battery life but after time it seems to have slowed down. I flashed it probably 5-6 months ago. Now its not quite as quick as it once was...kinda seems a little buggy.
So I'm looking to flash a new rom. I'm looking for something that is stable and quick and wont be a bunch of trouble flashing over bionix 1.3.1. Im also running the Overstock kernel if that makes any difference. Let me know things I'll need to avoid if I don't want to brick my phone and what you guys think.
Thanks

.....anyways GoodVibe having Overstock don't matter cuz it will get replaced after you flash your new ROM with whatever kernel that ROM comes with but ,since you're moving from Bionix, make sure you disable Voodoo. Try the Bali 1.8.8 kernel if you end up flashing a Froyo ROM that supports it (good battery life). Your gonna have a little more work to do if you go to a GB ROM.
I decided I'm gonna keep Bionix 1.3.1 on my daily Vibrant since I don't have any issues with it and when I get more time try others on my spare Vibrant. If Bionix feels a lil laggy try going to recovery and wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, fix permissions and see if that helps to refresh it or you could always re-flash it to get it fresh again, but I'm pretty sure your itching to try something new. Luck homie.

Thanks mrrob...that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I've been out of the loop for a little bit and I don't feel like reading through 25 threads to figure out what rom bugs out when flashed over whatever kernel or vice versa. And I also don't know what roms are stable and user friendly and what are just nuts. I tried TW frost when it first came out and that wrecked my phone. So I flashed back to jfd and then bionix and quit flashing for a while. Too much risk for me I guess.
Its funny...there are so many roms now. I remember just a few months ago cm7 was new for vibrant and the only other real decent roms were trigger, bionix, and azura I think. Just a few and that was it.
Thanks for the info guys. I have a new TW link to check out but most likely I'll fix permissions and dalvik and if all else fails just reflash bionix 1.3.1.
