What's new with the HD2 Android game? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I haven't had an HD2 since November of 2010, can somebody tell me what the latest and greatest developments for Android on this phone are? I'm just wondering what improvements have been made since I last had the HD2.

A slight speed and battery life improvement I guess. Able to install android to NAND/Rom. For NAND we can create a ext 3/4 partition so as to install apps into the sd card. We have CWM. Uhhh Irrelevant for android but we can install WP7, which has 720p recording. That'ss all I can think of I guess.

Android ROM for HD2 is it possible

Hi all,
i would like to ask about have any Android Rom for HD2 ???
If using winmo to boot android i feel abit lag and not like real android.
Android ROM for HD2 is it possible for now or future??
please advice......
No, it's not possible yet. They still use WinMo to initialize some components.. more development is needed before it's possible.... but it is still real android. Windows Mobile is shut down completely and the linux kernel is booted to allow android to load.
android works at that status u said but its run abit slow. any ideas for that ??
It isn't slow for me. That's even on my 16 gig class 2. Try a faster sd card. Btw what build did you use

This is just a dream come true....
Android should have been native to the HD2 from the beginning! Depriving europe of a EVO 4G-like phone was a big mistake made by HTC and European providers.
Good thing that XDA has the best Dev's around!

Personally i prefer dual boot system.I like also wm and android and if htc wanted would give us officially this thing.China e-shops sell devices like diamond 2 clone with htc logo on it that runs wm and android with hardware a lot times lower than the hardware of hd2..I cant believe that htc has not the technology to give us a full working dual boot rom for hd2 ,but they are not going to do it....

It has nothing to do with technology or knowhow, it's all got to do with money and willing to see an opportunity and taking it!
HTC and the European providers missed out on this one.

[Q] New to the Forum- Hello!

Hello all-
I am new to the forum and have followed the forum for only about a week.
I am planning to buy 2 new HD2's from T-Mobile today again, when I say again I mean I bought 2 when they first came out and like most I cried at the disappointment of WinMo 6.5 and returned them almost immediately. I hoped and dreamed of Android on the HD2, and here we are! Thank you for all that has worked on this.
I do need help with the following questions;
Can some one link me to the latest Android 2.2 Froyo version for HD2?
Once installed is it always going to run off of the SD Card?
If so does this negatively affect the battery life?
Does the functionality of HotSpot work?
I know I will have more questions but I do appreciate your help everyone!

PS: Wrong section.
Well answered, I would add that power consumption tends to be a bit particular to a variety of set ups, windows rom, kernel, etc. so no simple answer.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I want to keep this as simple as possible...
Why is there so many different versions?
Is there a version grading system here?
Which version comes to be the highest recommended in the FROYO world?
There's no rating system as it's subjective. You may like something that other people don't and ratings would become skewed. The best thing you can do is read the first couple of posts from a build thread, and if you like what you see give it a shot.
And there are so many different versions because there's lots of different ways to build Android...
Stock
Sense
CyanogenMod
MIUI
DesireHD based
Desire Z based
Nexus One based
Evo 4G based
and probably more I cannot think of right now. Each one caters to a slightly different person, and it's up to you to find one you like.
if you dont know much about android just go with a cyanogen6 build. anything that says CM6 or CM6.1 is good. try the one by infinitybiff. simple, solid, and very very fast.
you cant go wrong.
and you can always load multiple builds on your SD card(search how to rename android folder and edit name is startup.txt)
so you can have like 10 different builds on one SD card. all ready to go.
play around find what you like, and for gods sake do not post threads in development.

Good idea?

Hi guys, I have one question
Can be good idea install Win Phone 7 in my Hd2?
thx
I know that a lot pple love w7, but in my opinion is mmmm....
It's your choice mater and wrong forum. Do some reading and make your choice if you want it.
Personally loading WP7 to my HD2 is the best thing i ever did, surprisingly it feels very good to use.
good idea: flashing WP7 on your HD2 with dual-boot Android 2.3 off SD
bad idea: flashing a .51 radio on your tmous hd2

I've thought of doing the dual boot WP7 & Android, but I only have a 16GB SD card and running WP7 only I've used 10GB already and I'm not installing much waiting for nodo update.
What size do you have? And do you find any problems?
Cheers
Tnx, but no tnx... I will stay out with win phone 7, until someone made it bootable from SD card

I'm back with WM6.5 with Android on SD.
WP7 runs very well on the HD2, just not got the extreme flexibility of WM6.5
Wait for the NODO HD2 update, if it ever arrives that is...

It's up to you. I've installed WP7 on my HD2 and love it. Sure, can't tweak the settings like in WM6.5, but now I have more time to do other things with my life than to constantly tweak my phone.
I'm finally getting my money's worth from my data plan. LOL
To reiterate...to each his own. And for those who don't want to install WP7, what are you doing in the WP7 forum bad mouthing the platform? Go and be happy with what you're running on your phone and leave the people who want to explore WP7 alone.

yeah I freaking LOVE WP7 Microsoft has something here. Excpet one bad thing....its Microsoft so you know how that works.. Needs Wifi tethering and different Mapped buttons like i have said a billion times I seriously doubt they will be able to change the map of the buttons..thats why HD2 never received a WP7 upgrade ...but whatever I'll continue to support it its excellent

Depends on what ur looking for... if u want to be able to use WM7 and android this is the only device that can run both atm.
The HD is a very good device and runs both OS's very smooth.
If i were u i would stick to your Desire HD as the specs are better and the device will be more supported in the future as the HD2 is getting older now and wont receive any (official) updates anymore.
WM7 cannot even do multitasking untill end of this year... and by then google will release android ice cream sandwich anyway.
I personally would stick to android, WM7 is just not worth it (yet).
ok. thanks very much for your reply.
i was locking more at running ubuntu. the devs on the dhd have done a brilliant job. but its not functional enough for proper use.
have you run ubuntu on your hd2? if so how does it perform for useability? ie. smS, calls and 3g data
thanks

Sorry, i did not use the Ubuntu build on my hd2 but im interested in experimenting with it too.
I think i just will get a 2nd HD2 as they r very cheap on the 2nd hand market just to fiddle around with ubuntu, meego etc...
Other people can correct me if im wrong but i dont think it would be interesting for daily use (yet) (from the smartphone point of view)

Doesnt matter how its called, everyone knows what im talking about + i did mean updates from rom cookers OR official updates, thats why i pu it between ().
Besides if HTC doesnt release official updates the community wont have updated kernels to work with.
The point of my post was : why sell the HD if you can have both

[Q] some advice pls

hi guys.
So i have wp 7.5 nand and im kinda getting bored of it even though its stability is amazing(also speed) and i have android on my sd but all theses sd roms arent that satisfying so i am considering moving to android nand.
ive seen many nand roms that look amazing and my question is if i install nand on it will it be the same as a native android device (speed, stability,.battery etc...)
and do u think i should do that change?
if yes then please recommend some roms with eachs specialty
thanks
Note: i install many apps like 200+ thats why sd builds never agree with me, so also consider that(i have searched, watched videos but...)
thanks again

look around. No one answers these threads, especially when you ask for detailed analys of each roms specialities. ALL the roms are the best. If there were a best rom we'd all be using it.
As for android on band, yes its comparable to a real android device. Better than many, in fact.

it took me well over a year to get my HD2 from WM6.5 to android, now im running a beta version of android 4.0.1 its great.
i suggest you really look into it to begin with, if you do decide to do it i would get the HTC HD2 TOOL Kit, and a CustomRUU from DFT to initially hack the device, these where the things that took me a few go's to figure it out, and youtube is great for advice

I have been trying 20+ roms. This one is pretty fast.
I install plenty apps, and this rom does not slow down. It is as fast as the wm rom.
Sense 2.1 looks old but it is perfect for our "older " phone. With this rom I have fully working Wi-Fi tethering. It is not build in the rom, but I can make it work

The second post of the NRG thread has a great explanation of how to install.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17584373&postcount=4
It really comes down to personal taste, between cm7, sense, aosp, etc...
But android has come along way on nand and in some cases outperforms alot of phones(this is a 2yr old device but still a beast ;-) ) but just try a few roms and choose one. Grab the hd2 toolkit for your system partions and cwm, and off you go!!
Good luck!
Ps. I personally use tyungs nexushd2 rom
Its just pure awesome gingerbread
