[Q] End key bringing up start menu - HD2 General

Whenever I press the red end key, it brings up the start menu then turns off the screen. I'm running the stock TMOUS 3.14 ROM. It just started happening a few days ago. I haven't installed any new programs recently. I think it's hardware because I just did a hard reset and it's still happening. Anyone else have this problem?

Here the same since a few days. pressing the end key brings up start menu and then turn the screen off. in my opinion this is a hardware failure.
has anyone other ideas?
thanks in advance, interceptor77

the story continues...
the problem was growing. now if i pressed the end key my touch screen was not responding. only if i pressed it again and again.... the touch function came sometimes back. i will get a new hd2.
regards, interceptor.

MDA goes nuts after woken from sleep

Hello.
I have a T-mobile Mda and yesterday it began to do wacky things:
When I press the power button to wake the device from sleep, the phone volume balloon pops up and all the indicators go down. As if somone is holding the "down" button and not letting it go. When I manually change the volume, it goes back down again. When I press "start menu" it shows up for a second and then disappears. It seems as if the buttons are stuck, but they can't be. I did not drop the phone nor there was any physical damage done to it.
When I press the big "select" button the problem seems to go away, but resurfaces when the device goes to sleep and then back from sleep.
What could possibly cause this and how to fix it?
Thanks!

Since this just begun happening, it sounds like recent software you installed is corrupted and causing this. If you did install software just prior to this, uninstall the software then power off and on your device.
im having the same problem with my volume control going haywire, and random letters being displayed on the screen. but this happened after, which i now realize was an incomplete upgrade crossbow cause my device was cid-locked. i followed the "g4 hard spl (cid unlock)" topic, then upgarded to the "touch" rom, but i still get the same problem. any insights?
'Do a Hard Reset' of the phone, although you'll loose all your personal data, contacts messages etc...,but phone will reset to default settings and erase all corruptions, otherwise do a reflash.
Cheers !
i tried doing a "hard reset" but it wont work. the screen says to push the 'send' button, but when i do the button doesn't respond. so i tried a reflash but im still getting the same problems. do i need to reflash to an older rom, then upgrade again? if so, where can i get an older rom version, or perhaps the qtek 9100 original rom?
so i undid the hard spl lock, and reflashed my phone with the vodaphone qtek 9100 rom package. everything seems fine when the battery is full, but as the battery power goes down the problems become more frequent. the phone thinks buttons are being pressed, ala the lights on the keys are on, the volume constantly goes up and down, contacts open. can anyone help me? i dont know what left to do
Me too, it is if the down button is being held down.
need to bumps this thread. really need some help to fix this. its really frustrating me
two weeks and still no progress
someone? anyone? guide me and any others who are having this problem in the right direction. dont want to give up this phone, i really like it.
Same problem over here
Is you’re problem fixed or still the same... My phone is doing exactly the same.
my phone is still not working properly. cant find any solutions

Hardware button failure

For a while now I've had problems where all the hardware buttons on my 8125 do not function properly. Specifically, the IE button doesn't start the browser, the messaging button doesn't start the messaging app, the phone buttons don't start the phone app, etc...
The camera button occasionally works to start the camera program but stops working after that first press. All the other buttons, including the slideout keyboard do not work at all, with the exception of the volume button, as noted below.
Another symptom is that the volume button, if I forget it's broken and push it by accident, will cause the volume app to popup and try to adjust itself up or down repeatedly. It's obviously thinking the button is stuck.
I know this has got to be a software problems since they all failed at the same time. Does anyone have any idea what might cause this problem and how I might go about troubleshooting it?
I have done a hard reset twice to no avail. The phone was literally 30 days out of warranty when I first reported it to Cingular/AT&T and they wouldn't cover it.
Re: Hardware buttons
Bump. Anyone got any ideas? I can't be the only person that's had this happen.
I just finished flashing the ROM so I went from 1.08 to 2.25 and still no joy.

Problem with Power off

I have problem with power button. when push pwr button dont,t off pda, but when hold pwr then lights off.
Power is never shut off in PDAs, thats the way PDAs have been designed.
I have the same problem, he is not talking about a full power down. If you hit the power button quickly the phone does nothing. However if you hold the power button down for about 2-3 seconds the lcd light turns off as it should.
Because of this I have to wait 1 minute for the unit to suspend before putting it back in the holster.
Does anybody have any idea as to why this might be happening. Im not new at this so hard reset, soft reset.. new rom... new radio...turning up side down while chanting. It does not change......
It will do it right one or twice in a week.
Maybe somebody that understands the signal that the unit receives upon pressing the power button might be able to shed some light on this.... Again the button does seem to operate just not suspend when pressed normally (1 second or less)
I have done some more research and this seems to be a common problem for some with BAs but nobody has found out why. There must be some kind of common hardware fault.. Does the power button send only one signal or is it a multi signal device.

Do you have a problem with turning on? First, we need to know whether it is hardware issue or not...
What you can do in the mean time with the turning off problem is by installing a poweroff app like shutdownme, psshutxp, etc etc...
Absolutely no problem with turning on from standby... Right now i just lock the phone before placing it back in the holster.
To make it clearer if you HOLD the power button down the backlight will turn off only. It will still show the display image and keys will still function (it dims)
Well, I had the same issue with the latest WM5 ROM. I thought I was too stupid to press the button, then I thought the button was broke, then I thought, I'll have to live with it.
Now that I have flashed to WM6, no problems at all! Never even came to my mind that this problem once existed. So I guess that some ROMs just have this particular bug?
Stefan
I have tried all the roms as well as 2003 and have the same issue in all of them. And im not alone.
Power off Problem
I'm in same condition.
Had the same problem when using WM2003 second Ed.
Now I've installed WM6 but nothing changed:
I cannot power-off/suspend but can turn off backlight if press and hold power button.
When in standby the button works fine to turn on the device.
Also, sometimes volume turns up continously with "noisy" beep ...
Anybody solved this problems?
Thanks,
Ruben

Power button has two modes:
1. Click mode: Click it once for a short duration. This turns off backlight and can be resumed by pressing it again or by pressing OK button
2. Press and Hold mode: Press and hold for few seconds and release. This mode will dim the backlight and no other button will bring it back. This is some kind of deep sleep in battery mode. To resume the original setting, press and hold Power button again for few more seconds.
(p.s.: I am not sure if this behavior is true for all the BA models)
April 1,
I know these modes...
It seems that "mode 1" doesn't work at all...
I would activate "Button Lock" (settings-->button--> Lock(tab)--> "lock all buttons except power button") to turn-off backlight and "lock all buttons except power button" but I cannnot...
You solved this problem?
I have had this issue of not being able to power off. One way I always got out of it was by clearing the registry hive. Unfortunately this brings the PDA back to the basic ROM. At this point the power button worked without any issues. Upon reloading the software the problem may come back. I believe the issue is related to some programs. I can't recall which program it was that seemed to cause the issue. One other thing I think that also worked was just entering the registry and getting back out and doing a hard reset.
I had the same problem with my 6600. the message button also didn't work. Believe it or not, to fix it. I banged the lower half (4-way area) on my desk a few times. Not hard enough to break the screen. But prolly hard enough to free what was prolly a sticky key. And now everything is working.
i am too
the same ...
when i press the power quickly , nothing happen
when i press the power for 2 sec. the backlight turns off
i tried every thing .... including formatting my BA
any one solve it ???
I have this same problem, my power button does`t work. i tried installing different roms but without any chance to fix it. maybe its an mechanic issue. i will change pwr button, i hope this work.
Look at one of my previous posts. I fixed it, twice, and other users have used the same metod to fix it. I think the problem is "hung bit" hardware related because you can also send it in for service, and they will change a chip, but i never had to.

I need some help

today my hd2 started acting very strangely. the problem is; whenever i tap on the end key, the start menu would pop up. and i dont mean actually pressing the key down, just lightly tapping it would make it appear. and when i do press it down and again to turn the screen on it would freeze to where i'm not able to swipe and unlock the phone unless i repeatedly continue to press down on the end key, and when it does unlock the start menu is displayed instead of the today screen. i've already done two hard resets but the problem still persist...could this be a hardware issue? has anyone else experienced this? my hd2 has been great until now. if anyone could shed some light on this issue it would be great, anyways, i'll be paying t-mobile a visit later on today
might be some dirt stuck under the windows key.
Its on the same bar, so when you knock the end key, you're moving something caught under the windows key instead?

that's a possibility but not even the windows key itself is that sensitive to where all i had to do was lightly tap on it to open the start menu.
just contacted t-mobile usa. apparently it's a common issue with our phones even though i haven't heard about this exact issue before...but they'll be mailing me a replacement so i should have another hd2 in a few days so hopefully i'll be up and running like before pretty soon.

Soft Keys weird behavior

My soft keys are acting weird. sometimes when i press the home button right after a boot, it captures screen, meaning the 'menu' soft key is depressed. However, after that the softkeys don't respond anymore.
Also, sometimes while powering on, the Galaxy boots up in 'safe mode', meaning again that the 'menu' button is depressed (the way to enter safe mode is by pressing the menu button with the power button).
I have checked the key map in the clockwork recovery which show the 'menu' & 'back' key responding only once before going dead.
During general operation, the softkeys don't work at all and i'm left with only the home button.
Since the keys respond once, i'm sure they're not broken. Seems like a software error. I have tried different kernels & 3 diff roms, but the situation is the same.
Any help to ascertain / solve the problem will be appreciated
Similar issue
I had a similar issue on a brand new phone, the soft keys would detect my finger from about 1cm away, so holding the phone and moving you grip would cause them to activate, eventually they would lock up until you locked the screen and tried again. It was totally a hardware issue, I replaced the phone used the same ROM and no issues.
the reason i'm convinced its not a hardware fault is that the keys 'blink' when i touch them which means they are registering touch. its got to be something else.
the Galaxy has got to be the most mysterious device ever!
Sounds like you ought to send it in for a replacement.
You can try a touchkey firmware update.
Make sure you're on your device's stock ROM otherwise you'll lose your touchkeys.
ENTER *#*#2663#*#* in the dialer. Then update the touchkey firmware and reboot.
You should be able to return to your other ROM after this.
