I always have the stat_notify_sim_toolkit notification icon coming up and cant get rid of it, any one have any ideas?
Itsa new HTC Magic/Saphire with 1.5
I was using it for a week with a different SIM and never got that icon (looks like a Simcard with a small cog wheel to the bottom right)
then a day after using the new sim it started appearing and there seems to be no way to get rid of it?
Everything works perfectly on the phone, calls, sms, txt, mms, 3g data etc
I notificated after a few resets the icon only appears after I set an APN (was using it for a while after a reset on wifi and never got any notication icon coming up, but as soon as I set a APN to use 3g data it appeared??)
Any ideas? Its just a Blank button in the dropdown notification listing with the icon in it as well as the icon being in the bar up the top
oh and I also tried redoing a new rom with root onto it (complete standard HTC ROM + Root, its a 288meg HTC version) and even that diodnt get rid of it (after settings the APN of course)
What happens if you use it with another sim now? the icon is still here?

I am having exactly the same problem. With a Vodafone Magic. I flashed a to a hero rom. So had to re enter my APN's, since then I have been getting the notification icon with no way to get rid of it. My apn's work get data, mms etc. Haven't come up with a solution yet, will keep working on it.
Cheers
havnt tried another SIM after getting the problem yet (will have to beg someone to let me put their sim into my phone first)
Looks like another bug with android....
I had this sim in the phone for a couple of days with no notification icon, then removed the sim added some emergency contacts onto the SIM using a normal cell (which has the really fancy function of being able to edit sim contacts! unlike Android) then a a while later after being back in the HTC the notification icon came up...
Anything todo with having contacts on the SIM? Is android trying to read the contacts and having a problem of some sort perhaps?
Maybe a Vodafone New Zealand SIM thing as njakobs in on the same network im guessing? (oh had another SIM in there when i first got the phone that didnt have the issue but its a SIM from about 5 years ago, so maybe a new sim contact thing?)
I found a solution!! Finally
Went to setting>applications>manage applications> SIM Toolkit
Then under that select Force Stop button
after that the sim comes back into action shortly and the notification icon also disappears!
even after a poweroff/poweron remove battery and all.. it doesnt come back
Funny problem, wonder what the force stop does to stop the notification icon coming back?

Ok after using lots of different roms etc the problem is HTC Sim Toolkit just doesn't like NZ sims for some reason.
Some of the roms allowed me to just uninstall the app. Sweet problem fixed.
However in some it is protected and in the system folder to so can't be easily uninstalled. So this is what you have to do.
Using the Android SDK
Connect your device via USB cable
Start the command shell and navigate to tools folder of the android sdk, then
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd system
cd app
ls
Don't close the command shell yet.
This prints out a list of the obex and apk files in your system
The one we are looking for is 'Stk.apk', if it is there then lets nuke it.
Code:
rm /system/app/Stk.apk
sync
reboot
Make sure the 'case' is right as it is case sensitive.
Now you have NO MORE real really really annoying Sim Toolkit notifications that you can't get rid of.
Cheers
Has anyone seen a notable drop in signal quality on the fascinate compared to their previous VZW phone?
I had a BB Curve 8530 before and I upgraded to the Fascinate in September. Obviously the curve is better for email, but I like the Fascinates potential in every other area.
However one quality of a phone that I think the Fascinate should excel in but so far has disappointed me is signal strength.
In the same places and locations I used my other phone, I see consistently weaker signal, occasional dropped calls etc. Why if this phone uses newer and presumably better technology than the BB Curve 8530 (which was only Evdo Rev 0 and not even Rev A ) does it have seemingly less reliable signal strength and quality?
My signal strength has been great, but I came from T-mo, so I cant compare. I have noticed that when I had my nexus, I would pick-up my wifi signal all the way to my mailbox, whereas now I lose it when I leave the front porch.
I'm talking about a 90' difference there.
I have had numerous issues with email connectivity but not voice calls. Took it back to the vz store 3 times, had 3 different prl lists sent to it, with no success. Got tired of dealing with the store & called vz tech support. While troubleshooting, the rep had me change the mobile data setting from automatic a (the default it had on it) to automatic b & I noticed more signal bars immediately after reboot. Still don't know if it'll fix email, my new replacement comes tomorrow.

I have noticed a slight drop from by Droid 1 but nothing too crazy. When I was driving though a dead area for cell coverage with my friend who has the Droid 1, mine went out of service about a minute or two before his did.
Yeah what you guys are talking about is on the mark with what i have been noticing. Weaker wifi pickup, etc
This is my first android phone but i learned that people do alot of custom baseband work. Do you know if anyone has done any work on the fascinate baseband?
The email issue was part of verizons "known issues" that were supposedly patched in the D01 update not too long ago... I still dont think my exchange email is 100%... my 30 days is up tomorrow

Look in menu>settings>wireless&networks>mobile networks>system select. Mine was set to automatic a by default, just select automatic b and try it.

There is no Automatic B option under settings.
You are right. From the home screen, press menu, select wireless&network category, swipe up page to access mobile networks category (near bottom of page), select mobile networks & of the 2 options you now see select the bottom one (system select). You get a pop-up window with "home only", "automatic a" & "automatic b". Select automatic b & back out of there. Reboot from the home screen & see if there's a difference. There was for me.

I lived in Ohio all of my life until about 4 years ago when I made the mistake of moving to California. I learned when I moved here and switched my billing that Verizon is still on at least 2 disjointed systems from all of the mergers and buyouts from years ago. In Ohio we had the option of Home Only, Automatic A and Automatic B. In California that option isn't available and there's only Home Only and Automatic. I believe (but don't quote me!) that in Ohio Automatic A preferred Verizon towers and Automatic B preferred Alltel towers.
Haha, I also miss how on the VZW system that Ohio was in you could tell if somebody was already on the phone when you called them because there would be a tone at the end of each ring!

You gave me a boner there for a second, I have terrible signal consistency and when I saw no A or B setting, I went soft.

Not that it'll solve your baseband issues... but being that I am a legacy alltel customer, I get shafted with a horrible PRL... manually changing it out got me on the full scale verizon towers and now i'm a good 10-15db better.
Anyways, same thing happened on my Droid Inc... put together a guide tonight for the fascinate for others if you wish to try out different PRL's. Depending on where you live, some that prefer alltel towers over verizon might give you a better signal (if you're a verizon customer) etc..
I don't have this option either.. just Home Only, or Automatic.
I keep seeing in reviews that they get much better battery life in hspa+ mode and when they turn on lte battery suffers etc
So can we turn off lte??

Doesn't work. Brings up an option that says "RAT Selection Option is restricted" I can't select anything or make any changes (it also doesn't give an option for Cellular type" looks like AT&T locked it down again.)

It should stay here's how.
With the SIM card remove Dial *#2263# select WCDMA, select All, then bottom left haptic button select end and reboot with the SIM card in
I mean don't do the next step (Open dialer again.Dial *#2263# select automatic)
maybe this could be a project for the devs that allow us to simply enable and disable using radio buttons or something.
anyone know if it's possible?

Yes it is possible but we'll have to be patient.
Does it drain battery even if you are not in an LTE supplied area?

2. Go to "More....", once in, click on "Mobile Networks"
3. Go to "Access Point Names"
4. Once in you will see "AT&T PTA" with a radial button as your only option. This is the default gateway.
5. Click on Menu button below, and you will have two choices, "New APN" or "Reset to default" click on New APN.
You will see a series of lines under "Edit Access Point" and click on "APN" and enter as follows "wap.cingular"
If you like you can rename the "Name" to whatever you like...I used "AT&T HSPA+"
Click "Save"
This will give you access to HSPA+ network only. I found this info online for the Galaxy SIII with ICS coming stock. This is an ICS only option I believe, I don't recall cause I dumped the Gingerbread 2.3.6 cause it was burning up batteries like crazy.
Please be advised I have the Galaxy SII Skyrocket, they are building the LTE network in my area as we speak and I was getting all sorts of interference from their testing and upgrades so until its complete I'm running HSPA+ only and the problems went away.
Hope this helps!

That might work. But it will not turn off the LTE radio, the phone will still have LTE on but will connect to the slower internet. LTE remains on=battery drain is on.
This post mentions the S4 having the Auto Unlock Zone feature which disables the lockscreen when you are on a trusted WiFi network:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204008
Auto unlock zone
You can add several "home" Wi-Fi networks and the lockscreen will be disabled when the Galaxy S4 hooks up to one of them. This way you can have a secure PIN lockscreen outside and a quick unlock at home or the office
I can't seem to find this feature on our phone. Does anyone have it working?
I dont see it. i have tried changing lock styles around as well as looking in the wifi settings. unless its in some other hidden corner in the setting menu it might have been something blocked by region or carrier for some reason. you could try asking in that thread and see if anyone can help out. update here if you find something out please. i think thats a pretty cool feature.

I dont see anything there that says how to turn this on?
I'd like to turn this feature on as well. In gsmarenas review it says its there but their review unit had a white settings menu. My guess is that it was removed on the production units. Hope it comes back in later firmware updates.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4-review-910p4.php
Has anything new been discovered about this? Not avail on my Sprint unit. Any way to get this feature on?
Looks like a lot of devices are missing this feature. In the mean time you can use HOME UNLOCK for free from the market.

In Nougat 7.1.2 when using dual sims, the Green call button showed the two carriers you were using and you'd just press which one to start the call...
Now in Oreo the Green call button is the typical round circle, and when you tap it, now you get a popup window that says, 'Call with', showing both the carriers and you click on one.
Has anyone using dual sim cards noticed this? I really don't like this popup window and the extra step involved here, and would love to have the option the way it was in Nougat, if possible...

Request the APK of the Nougat version of the phone app from someone who has Nougat installed. Install it, and disable the Oreo version of the phone app.
Pls go to settings --> network and internet --> sim cards --> unders calls select preffered carrier.. that's all
What DoR3M3 wants is, the phone dialer should always show two "call" buttons for two sims,
So that he can easily choose irrespective of what's there selected in settings
Nougat dialer had that, which even i loved... In oreo its removed.
Me too want it back.

Yes someone understands! Why developers remove great UI options, I'll never understand! LOL
After all, doesn't anyone remember the day Popups came to town? Well, now some bone head developer makes this into a popup window choice, as if a popup anywhere is acceptable...
By the way, who removed this, Google or Xiaomi? We need to seriously round up the troops and get this bloody put back the way it was, because it was better!

I think it's Google.
A bad move...
If I figure out how to get it back/ or at least an alternative, I'll let you know
To clear some air. On Nougat, community and user criticised Google and Xiaomi for using AOSP code to build AOSP Ron when this phone was mentioned to be Google supported. Meaning, Nougat' dialer is directly from AOSP code and that supports dual call options.
On Oreo, Google and Xiaomi move comeletly to Google software and that is why now you see Google dialer(does not support dual call option like on AOSP) And messages app replaced. To name a few.
Hope this helps. In case you need the desired Dialer, try ZenUi dialer from playstore. It is great alternative from ASUS

Yeah, it's true. Earlier in N, I could delete call log of an individual in batch with an ease, but in O, I'm forced to delete it one by one, which is tiresome and irritating.
But did you noticed, even if you call from the other sim from ZenUi dialer. The call is made from the preferred sim.
@Eshwar123 thanks, I hope you or someone can figure out how to put it back...
