In Nougat 7.1.2 when using dual sims, the Green call button showed the two carriers you were using and you'd just press which one to start the call...
Now in Oreo the Green call button is the typical round circle, and when you tap it, now you get a popup window that says, 'Call with', showing both the carriers and you click on one.
Has anyone using dual sim cards noticed this? I really don't like this popup window and the extra step involved here, and would love to have the option the way it was in Nougat, if possible...

Request the APK of the Nougat version of the phone app from someone who has Nougat installed. Install it, and disable the Oreo version of the phone app.
Pls go to settings --> network and internet --> sim cards --> unders calls select preffered carrier.. that's all
What DoR3M3 wants is, the phone dialer should always show two "call" buttons for two sims,
So that he can easily choose irrespective of what's there selected in settings
Nougat dialer had that, which even i loved... In oreo its removed.
Me too want it back.

Yes someone understands! Why developers remove great UI options, I'll never understand! LOL
After all, doesn't anyone remember the day Popups came to town? Well, now some bone head developer makes this into a popup window choice, as if a popup anywhere is acceptable...
By the way, who removed this, Google or Xiaomi? We need to seriously round up the troops and get this bloody put back the way it was, because it was better!

I think it's Google.
A bad move...
If I figure out how to get it back/ or at least an alternative, I'll let you know
To clear some air. On Nougat, community and user criticised Google and Xiaomi for using AOSP code to build AOSP Ron when this phone was mentioned to be Google supported. Meaning, Nougat' dialer is directly from AOSP code and that supports dual call options.
On Oreo, Google and Xiaomi move comeletly to Google software and that is why now you see Google dialer(does not support dual call option like on AOSP) And messages app replaced. To name a few.
Hope this helps. In case you need the desired Dialer, try ZenUi dialer from playstore. It is great alternative from ASUS

Yeah, it's true. Earlier in N, I could delete call log of an individual in batch with an ease, but in O, I'm forced to delete it one by one, which is tiresome and irritating.
But did you noticed, even if you call from the other sim from ZenUi dialer. The call is made from the preferred sim.
@Eshwar123 thanks, I hope you or someone can figure out how to put it back...

This being AndroidOne, I thought ASOP would be correct, not Google...
I wonder if using the Feedback app is good, anyone use it? I'd rather not send something directly through the phone for security reasons... hmm Mi Community has a Feedback section on the forum, or maybe best just to email them... [email protected]

OK so i didn't much like the stock Dialer and contacts to slow and look horrible so i set about trying to find a suitable alternative, now upon finding a couple of good ones Dialer One & TouchPal Go i followed various guides on how to set up installed dialers as your default dialer, applications manager-all then clear default on stock phone app launch new dialer and it should come up with an option to choose which dialer to use, ive come to the conclusion that most of the dialer apps ive tried this option never comes up thus not allowing you to use as a stock dialer, now i read that if you disable the contacts under application manager - all then go into your dialer you want to use it will come up with the new default option upon doing this i noticed that the Stock contacts & phone icon have disappeared from the homescreen and app-drawer, i can only find the phone listed in application manager - all but not contacts , what do i do to get them back ? thx
the same thing u did to disable them those 2 apps are related

Not sure on your question per se but once you do get em back ignore those guides because you don't have to do anything to make it work. Just lose the shortcuts on the desktop and replace them with the ones you want and press that icon instead. When an app wants to hook a dialer and you have more than one installed a window will pop up asking which one you want to use, select dialer one and always and you are good to go. This will happen each time a new app that hasn't tried to use the dialer before wants to do so but it wont be long before you have them all covered and you never see them again. The good thing about this is you simply need to clear defaults to go back should you choose and also if you want to use them on a case by case basis you can. In other words dont select always and the option will come up every time that app tries to hook the dialer. The same holds true with the contacts and replacement contact apps.

'When an app wants to hook a dialer and you have more than one installed a window will pop up asking which one you want to use, select dialer one and always and you are good to go' EXACTLY and after many wasted hours i concluded that many of the dialer/contacts apps dont allow for such an option to appear the new app just launches without said popup box. However i still dont know how to get back the stock phone/contacts icon.
Im trying to disable the swipe left to right to call, and swipe right to left to message feature thats in the stock Messages app on the Verizon Galaxy s5. I find myself accidentally calling people Im texting, and trying to explain why I called. I like swipe functions, but this particular one can be quite annoying, especially since the option to turn it off isnt exactly the most obvious to me.
Ive tried going into settings in the stock messages app, and theres nothing there about swipe commands. I even went into the settings and tried the motions and gestures option, nothing. Language and input, nothing. I even tried to edit the settings in the phone app, and you can only disable swipe to call when youre in the phone app, but nowhere else, which seems a little counter intuitive to be able to turn it off in the phone app, and not in the messages app.
Is there something Im missing? It really isnt making much sense to me that it cant be turned off. The Messages app Im talking about is the one that looks like a white envelope, with a yellow sheet of lined paper coming out of the top, not the Message+ that comes with the Verizon bloatware.
If anyone can help Id really appreciate it! Thanks in advance!
Cannot just disable the message portion you have to disable the complete swipe action. To do this, open dialer then select menu ->settings -> Contacts -> uncheck "Swipe to call or send message."
I know this is older but I am trying to disable the same feature. Un-checking that box only effects contacts, not the action from within messenger. Is there a way to disable it in messenger also or is the only option to not use the Samsung one?
I do hate when crappy "features" are not optional.
I ended up ditching the stock app and going with a paid version of chompsms. Works great and doesn't have this feature. To delete or call a contact from the conversation screen its actually a long hold action, which is a bit safer from accidental deletions.
Worked for me. Was so annoying, thanks for the help!

Hey guys! Still nothing? Are we stuck with this "ingenuity" for good?
Man, I hope just one of the morons who designed this feature read this thread one day. I hate this feature.
Ok people tested this with another person and he confirmed also.
1)Make sure advance calling is off
2) Activate developer options if u havent already done so.
3) find windows transitions and change to off for all three
4) clear all left open windows using the far bottom right button
5) Go to dailer and see the keypad gone.
Any ideas why this would be? and for me the only way to get back is changing the transistion back to .5 for all three and clearing all the windows again. Its odd. i didn't try with advance calling because advance calling is still alpha stage in my opinion.

It has nothing to do with advance calling though.... i think its something google knows but didnt care to fix cuz lollipop is already out with a whole new dialer! One work around is press on the dialer icon and press back again... You get the dial pad!

I'm not sure it can be called a bug when developer options are merely for developer testing and development scenarios. Its not being used as intended, so unexpected results show up occasionally.
Has anyone managed to get Google dialer working in their OP5? I've installed TWRP and tried following the guide to install it on the OP3, but with no luck. It says installation successful when I install the framework in TWRP, but the APK installation fails and says my device isn't compatible.
I'm thinking I may have to delete some system apps to make room, I e deleted the Easter egg and some wallpaper. Still no joy.
Google Dialer + Caller ID on OP5
Hi Guys, I would also really appreciate to have the Google Dialer on my OP5 because of the enhanced Caller ID feature. Is anyone able to port it?
Kind regards
There's a v7.0 of the Google Phone 7.0 APK here http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...61421-nonnexus-android-apk-download/download/
I installed it and it works.

If you want full functionality, like spam blocking and reporting, and an up to date app, you need to have TWRP and flash this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3907762&d=1476815806 (Google Dialer Framework Support)
and then use APK mirror to download and install the newest official Google Phone APK.
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/
Then freeze the default Dialer app, and set the Google one as default.
Been using it since I got the phone.

If you mean this like in my screenshot, I would say its normal?! Or am I wrong?
Yes this was the color... But I have solved it and switched to blue. BTW, Oxygen OS has removed the feature to choose color to each sim card, so I have done it by using Nova launcher features. Found a solution in XDA... If I will find it I will copy and paste the relevant thread here

You can change color by changing color of the SIM card but OOS has removed this feature -_-
OOS has removed this feature but you can also do it
here you are:

Yep i just find another guide, instead of Nova Launcher you can install an "Activity launcher" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher and launch com.qualcomm.qti.simsettings.SimSettingsActivity
Just tried it, it works!

They said both of these options work if you install the Magisk version of the Google dialer. It can found posted earlier in this thread.
I did not test them though.
Can someone help me out? I installed Google Dialer v7 form apkmirror and everything works great except I can't answer or decline a phone call from notification. I press answer and nothing happens. I have to go to full call screen and swipe up. Anyone else has this issue? I have phone app set as default and permission to modify settings. I am not rooted. If anyone figured this out I appreciate a response. Thanks.

Yes you have this bug only in notifications mode, not in the full screen phone call. For that, just double tap at the top of the "Answer / Hang Up" buttons (Caller name/picture) and app switch in full mode and you can accept or reject your call

I bought my LG K51 last May 2021 (not knowing they stopped making the phones a month before) then in February 2022 it started the "swipe unlock icon to use call options" i tried to get Metro PCS to replace the phone with something else because i can not disable that feature I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THE PHONE if it had done it at the time of purchase and they DID NOT tell me they stopped making LG phones the month before. Does anyone know how to go to the root menu or anything else to stop or disable this sabotaged phone ?
go into apps, select show system. find phone with a blue "phone" icon . select it and clear cache, then go into advanced and uncheck or disable "Open on top of apps" or similar... do this for all apps with "phone" icon that you think has any connection to the dialer.. hope this helps.
