PLEASE HELP. I get sms delays. Some one week after..CM7. - Legend General

Hi androids.
I have a HTC Legend. CM7 gingerbread..
And i have had troubles for the last months now. 2-3...
Its about sms. Some of them come all at once, like 10 minutes ago. I got 7 text/sms messages from my sister, all at once. (That she sent like 6 days ago...Diffrent days. I wondered why i got no answer, and she said in the phone if i did not get her sms, and i did not. until now...And this is not the first time this has happened as i wrote in the beggining.)
This is starting to get really annoying. And i bet its not the provider either.
We have the same telecompany here in sweden, and this must be the phones software. Is it to much sms in the inbox? Because i can recieve sms from most directly, even with 2000 + sms in the inbox...
I could try to delete all sms, but i prefer to keep them.
What could cause this issue? I appreciate all help.
Thanks
I updated the CM from 6 to 7 last week. Same error. But the same sms in the inbox..
Should i try a diffrent ROM maybe? Have anyone heard/read about this wierd/annoying issue?

I personally haven't ever heard or read of this issue pertaining to CM7, and it likely isn't being caused by it if it was happening before moving from CM6 to 7. I would try installing a different ROM first and if you still have the same problems try contacting the service provider. Another idea might be to use a sms backup app to back up all the messages and then delete them, if having them deleted doesn't make a difference then you can easily restore them.

yeah. I bet its not the rom. Or provider...
I could try and delete all sms after backing up them. That should fix the issue...
Or on another forum, they said that i could uninstall some apps. Because i only got 18 mb internal storage. So many apps that i can not move to my sd card.
Thanks for the reply, and sorry for a late reply. Arigato.

messages in sms threads out of order.

hi, ive been using super hero beta 2 and until yesterday i had no problems. but all of a sudden, every time i got a text, the most recent received message would be put before all of the messages i sent. so in the message thread, the received messages are in order but all together at the top of the thread. my sent messages are in order but all at the bottom of the thread. the messages arent in order of the conversation. its really annoying to always have to scroll up to find what someone has sent me.
i didnt think much of it because i figure a wipe would fix it. today, i wiped and installed the new jacman rom and am still having the same exact problem.
is anyone else having this problem? does anyone know how to fix it? thanks!
this has been an issue for a few people, if t-mobile is doing tower work in your area it will screw with stuff like timestamps(are those correct for both incoming and outgoing?) and order of messages
Are you using the stock messaging or chomp sms? I used to have this same problem with chomp, then I upgraded to JF 1.5 and didn't need chomp anymore. Stock messaging has never done this thus far, but I know how annoying it is.
My nstive messaging app is doing that! It was frustrating as hell I did a wipe, flashed a different Hero rom, and still. I downloaded Chomp it has no issues....its the message app that is doing it to me
I have never had this issue before (except a brief trial of chomp) and then 2 days ago it started happening to me from my gf's phone to mine. I have seen it on a Hero build, a Rogers build, Ion build, and now The Dudes Rogers build. Next step im going to check the clock on her phone and see if that may be part of the issue or something.
The only time I've ever seen this problem is when two texts are sent/received within the same minute, and they would be grouped similar to that. So, for example, if someone sends me two texts within a minute, and I reply twice to those messages, and they would group similar to the original poster.
Have we tried rebooting? Is this present across multiple SMS threads? Using simple stock firmware/messaging app, or even going as far as installing a new messanging app amd seeing those results?
In all honesty, Hero is no where near perfect right now and probably won't be for a long while. It was never meant to go on the G1 so we can't expect perfect results just yet. Try using a different ROM, and see what results you get.
What I think you might want to try first, however, is to not use network provided values for the clock. Try using the phone's clock values. You can change this in Settings->Date and Time. Erase all threads, and chat away. Let me know the results.
@brandenk
I've been using TheDude's build for over 2 months now, and I've never experienced problems like this. If this is so common place across all these builds, have you seen the same results on a stock build?

My GF's G1 started having messages appear out of order a couple/few days ago as well. I'm in the Orlando area. I figured it's T-Mobile screwing with the configuration of their messaging servers as someone mentioned earlier. Hopefully it clears up soon.
Time fixes everything
the problem was happening with the stock messaging app. just appeared out of no where. it doesnt even happen on every conversation, it happens to the three or so i text most often. my time stamps in the messages are correct, the other person's messages usually have a pattern of being 4 exactly 4 hours behind, but some times they just get jumbled with random time stamps.
i tried the date & time thing then a restart and im still having the same problem..
Same thing keeps happening to me, I am on the Super Hero v2 build and it also happened to me on the v1 beta build.
I switched back to ION yesterday and it stopped...and switched back and it started instantly again...Coincidence ?
Everyone is saying it's happening on every build, but I have only experienced it on Hero.
More info
Apparently, as far as my GF has noticed, it is only happening with MY messages to her, not other contacts. I've got Sprint, she's obviously on T-Mobile. Anyone else notice if it's only from certain (non-T-Mobile) customers? I suspect it's a particular SMS exchange server screwing up the timestamps.
When I had this problem it was from a tmobile number(one of my faves) and a verizon number so I'm not sure that its carrier related

Guys, who REALLY solved problem with SMS???

I very, very sad....
I can't view list of SMS
I can't answer to SMS without 5-10sec timeout
I can't use default interface for SMS
Its terrible.
If you ready to answer me about this with thread when swith to default mode, you must to know that I've tried this and I lost MMS.
I can't use only SMS without MMS.....
Plz, help. Who sovle this problem, help.....
.
+1 it's to sad. I've had the phone for 3 weeks now, and i'm waiting on HTC to fix this terrible issue (this and the alarm issue..)
i still have to use Nokia N86 as my primary phone, because like you, i want both MMS and SMS. HTC please??
Guys,
If this issue is really of concern to you do the following:
- write to HTC so they know that there is still a problem out there for some users.
- implement this fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584696 (see the last post f you want to solve the MMS issue).
WB
Same here!!
What I am doing now as a workaround is using PowerSMS (http://download.cnet.com/PowerSMS/3000-10440_4-10920088.html).
It allows you to make a full backup (among others) of your SMS (inbox and sent items) and restore them anytime with the option to delete them after backing up.
Regarding the amount of use you can backup SMS you don't need anymore. It's really quick.
I'm doing this once/twice in a week and the sms app is responding. According to the amount of sms you send/receive you can screw it up and down;-)
I receive round about 10 sms each day and send ~10 sms pro day.
But as I said. It's not really a solution but a little apsirin for my headache!
Cheers,
LEE
P.S. beside all these, this powerSMS is a really nice app (e.g schedule SMS ) .
Theoretically you could also use MyPhone to sync up with your online account and then sync back to device if you want to backup and flash a new rom.

I use MyPhone on a daily basis (it automatically backs up everything except my storage card at 4am). It also allows you to archive text messages online, and you can then delete them from your online store and it automatically deletes them from your phone during the next sync. Doing this, I never have problems with my SMS or MMS, as I keep the number of messages down. I've got over 2000 messages archived on MyPhone (accessible via the web interface), and about 100 on my phone at the moment. Once there's a 100% fix in place, I can restore the archive and they will get put back on my phone automatically.
If any of you are having problems, have you done what wacky.banana suggested? That thread seems to have resolved the issue for the majority of people. Okay it's not ideal, but until HTC fix this then we have to make do with what we have.
I dont understand why you told about Backup SMS? I have not problem with backup.... I have problem with SMS messaging.
As i wrote above, I can't get normal communication by the SMS.

Henry_Lee,
What JohnCMolyneaux is trying to tell you is that your problem is probably being caused by the HTC SMS application not being able to cope with too many texts on your phone. Its a well known problem and produces the symptoms you have (search for SMS problem on XDA and you will find lots of threads on this).
What he was trying to say was that if you backup your texts online then delete all of them off the phone but the bare essentials then you stand a better chance of getting the HTC SMS app to work.
An even better solution is the one I set out above.
There's no more on offer here I'm afraid. It's either one of the 2 solutions above or you live with it.

I have only 10-20 SMS on my phone and get problem even with 1-5 SMS.
I already wrote to HTC support service but I think someone solve problem....
I never had any problem .. I know it's not being helpful, but just so you know.
now that hspl & sspl is out with several cooked ROMs, is there any ROM that solves this issue? or will there be any ? becuz this is the only issue anoying me right now, and i kind of don't see why to flash ROMs only becuz of their skin :S
I have two major issues with this phone, 1. some sms messages doesen't get sent, they're stuck in the outbox. 2. the alarm clock isn't reliable at all.
Sendt an e-mail to HTC and got this answer: (i did include in the e-mail the fact that i have installed the hotfix)
Dear HTC Customer
HTC is aware of this now, and working on a solution. Thank you for your patience

Well, this will not easily be solved by a simple rom fix.... It's a fundamental error in the sense 2.5 msging. The alternatives aren't perfect either (there is a sense 2.1 workaround which has some bugs as well as the 'disable sense' option which isn't all that for some).
Afaik custom roms usually are stripped, updated, modified and tweaked and no core fixes which are the resposibility of HTC.
Henry_Lee,
I found a solution for my SMS problem, which was quite similar to yours I think:
- not able to send (new) or answer messages
- not able to see message history
- not able to go to 'more' for more options
First of all I wrote an email to HTC as well, but they didn't seem to understand my problem or care about it. They answered a hotfix
would be available soon, but that was a hotfix to solve the other SMS problem where messages didn't get sent immediately etc..
However, once this was released I downloaded it and installed it onto my HD2, result: wasted my time (as I expected really...).
Because HTC didn't respond to my next messages anymore (therefore I assume they don't really care) I started to try a couple of things
myself:
1. Made a backup using SBP Backup software excluding a backup of the registry in System Data
2. Performed a hard reset
3. Installed ROM upgrade (in my case it was Netherlands 1.48.404.2)
4. Installed SMS Function Update
5. Re-installed most of the files in the backup in ROM Upgrade Mode, apart from System Data (use Customize Restore)
Result: problem(s) solved!
SMS works like a charm again, as it did when I just bought the phone.
Just disappointed in the way the HTC customer service desk works (or doesn't work...). Still, it's not just HTC's CS, Nokia excels in their
stupidity, one of the reasons I got a HTC phone this time. Let's hope I won't have to contact any of them again soon...
Hope this helps!
Brgds,
Paul

How long has the problem been solved? I found this problem after 3 weeks with my device. A hard reset (or equally a ROM flash) would surely cause the equivalent. You may see the problem reappear, as I did after a week, after the 1.48 "upgrade".

The SMS function has been up and running for about 3 weeks now. And like I mentioned earlier I have also upgraded the ROM version, no problems since.
Many messages have been sent and received meanwhile so at the moment I'm confident the problem has been solved properly. If not I will let y'all know!
Brgds,
Paul
I do sympathize with those having SMS issues. Have you all consider possibility is hardware issue as you also notice there are guys in the forum saying they do not have such issues. I am one of them. I have been using the HD2 for 38 days already. On day one I restore about 800 sms into my phone. There was NO lag and the SMS were all displayed within 10+ secs ( one time lag to display ). Subsequent no more such lag as was instant display when I access it
SMS stuck in outbox only one time ( few minutes ) - I discounted it off, as I just reach another country
daily I send/recieve about 20-30 SMS : till today I NEVER encountered SMS stuck in outbox. SMS was also immediately displayed in PEOPLE tab ( found many users complain very slow to load ). I only face this issue few days ago on the cooked rom based on Leo 2.0 build 28*** ; I change back to rom based on build 2188## - no more such issue
Till today I NEVER even bother to install the SMS hotfix - see no need of it

Heard, but I will wait normal SPL and Bepe.
When I had HTC Cruise I tried many ROMs and Miri's too, but only Bepe to cook ROM like my taste.
Looks like HSPL is ready. isnt?

My text messages just disappeared.

So I was in the middle of a text conversation and put my phone back in my pocket. I received another text, pulled it out, and my inbox was a barren wasteland. I disabled all the options for deleting old messages, so what gives? Is there some kind of mystery limit I'm unaware of? Did my messages just disappear into the void with all those odd socks I lost in the dryer? Was my conversation too hot to handle?
If my text message archives are going to disappear, at the very least they could leave a permanent root solution in their wake.
Sorry that I don't have a solution but your problem doesn't surprise me. There have been plenty of times that I have rebooted my phone (purposefully) and been brought up to the first time registration screen for the phone/android service.
This has happened to me three times since I got my phone on 10/05/10!
I have all the default text message settings and I text a lot, ~10k a month, figured it was just getting too full and crashing the app, sometimes it takes forever when it "refreshes"
yesterday all my bookmarks for the internet disappeared and my phone rebooted by its self a few times i didnt know what was going on
I have your text messages.
If you ever want to see them again then you will get a suitcase and fill it with unmarked, non-sequential bills!
Yep, you're not the only one, twice this week. Lucky for me I back up all my messages but damn if that didn't scare the sh!t out of me.
I hope somebody can explain why this happens & how to stop it.
I have the same issue. any solutions how to fix this?
Oh my god! My messages just disappeared too and I don't think I have an sms backup.. And i need them back. What do I do ? I can't afford to lose them!
^^Bahahahaha
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
haha.. you are so helping!
I read your earlier message as complete sarcastic drivel. Is was rather humorous, read that way. As to your problem I would recommend a program called sim card data recovery. You should be able to restore your messages that way
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Which program are you referring to? Can't narrow it down on google. Could you please link me?
Also, the messages were not on the sim card, but on the phone memory or sd card (Wherever the desire hd stores by default)
I have not used a specific program, I have just been told that is the way to go. Not to sure if the messages are on the sim or the internal memory, but I'm guessing they would have to go through the sim to send, leaving a trace. That could be retrieved.

Had this happen to me once a few months ago when I was running CM6 RC3. Not sure what caused it and haven't been able to re-produce the issue since (thankfully).
I know the problem is not isolated to CM as I have read other threads with people running Stock or Sense ROM's having the same thing happen.
If they're really that valuable, a backup is probably a good idea. For me it was just a bit annoying but nothing important that I needed...
so no solution to this problem yet? i looked at various forums discussing this problem. good thing i only lost 2 messages as i had them backed up.
i am using chompsms and thought it was due to it, but apparently this happens without any 3rd party applications
keeping an eye on this thread to see if somebody comes up with an explanation, or even better, a solution
I have had this happen to me. i was using Virtuous ROM at the time. They all disappeared from my phone and also from HTCSence site aswell. I have stopped trusting both of them now and use SMSBackup+ which (as the name implies) backs all sms to a folder in your gmail account.
This has happened to me multiple times (+3) using Virtuous.
i had originally backed up my text via Titanium Backup, and I flashed my phone and installed CM7, when i tried backing up, the texts wouldn't reappear, so i thought, "oh well"
Few days later while I'm texting, my phone suddenly reboots and all the texts are back again..
But the other day they randomly disappeared again...
Me too
Happened to me today as well, CM 6.1
...really pissed about it, argh. Does stock do this?

All SMSes disappeared with no warning...

I had the phone for a week now, did couple of factory resets (when playing around with stuff), and yesterday morning I permrooted and HBOOTed the phone...
The phone overall works great, really no complaints, but 10 minutes ago I receive an SMS and open up Messages, and the only SMS I have the in whole app is the one that I have received...so all my SMSes (5834 to be precise) have vanished into thin air...
I am doing another restore right now, thank god I have it on the card...
It's pretty worrying that the phone would be so unrealiable to erase information...
There are two more guys with DHDs on AndroidForum with the same issue:
http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-troubleshooting/214946-sms-have-all-disappeared.html
Has any1 else had that happen?
happened a few times to me too, but cannot trace it down to a specific reason...
this IS annoying and forces me to backup my sms on a daily basis!
Wow, that definitely blows...and you have stock DHD, so rooting/HBOOT mods are definitely not the reason...
If it will be a regular occurence I might as well throw the phone in the trash, coz to backup 5000+ SMSes on daily basis, no thank you...
iPhone had no issues with all those SMSes for years, it can't be the sheer number of them...
Nope not to do with size as it happend to me and i only had 300-400 texts altogether before it happened. Btw when it happened to you did ur messages app FC then u have to restart only to find no texts?
Whoa this worries me, how should I go about backing up my messages? I'm all synced with HTC Sense, won't that keep em backed up?

Elaborate on the question a little bit for me, I didn't quite understand you!
I received a SMS, and I just wanted to send a text back, pressed Messages only to find it's completely blank.
Restarted the phone and nothing still blank.
I also had an issue with it today that it didn't store calls I made in Call History, after I restarted it, it started working again though.

SMS Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu...it's avalabile on the market...HTC Sense can only back them up, but not restore them back to the phone (not that I know a way to anyway)...

This happened to my Desire Z today, at around the same time as the OP.

There is an app in the market that you can use to backup and restore messages to and from ur gmail acc. this app also has an setting to backup an sms right away when it receives one. dont know the exact name (phone battery empty) but i found it when i was searching for backup sms in the market.
Hope this helps you.
Sorry for my vague description, here it is again in more detail
I received a text message from a friend and i received a notification in my noti-bar
I pulled the bar down and click the message, it then tried to open the messages apk
it force closed saying htc.messages.apk or something hast FC'ed...
I thought lets just restart and it will all be happy days again
I restarted and open the text fine, but when i pressed back to go into my inbox i noticed there were no other text message!
And that's exactly how it happened

Hmmm...this almost makes me wonder if this is somehow not related to HTCSense.com...
It's just weird that it happened to both of us at about the same time...
If it happens again I'll disable syncing with HTCSense (it's more or less useless anyway, I have local file backups of both), and see if it happens after that...
My HTCSense message log is completely empty, too. I don't think it ever worked.
I had this happen a few weeks back. I opened a new text message and the messages widget crashed. All my messages seem to have been deleted. I was quite concerned as my messages contain important information (I did got to the trouble of migrating them from my old phone)...an email from HTC to see if the emails were deleted (or just not visible as some have reported on other forums) and if there was a way to get them back elicited this response:
Thanks for contacting HTC.
We appreciate your support for our products.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. With regard to your question, unfortunately, once messages are deleted from the SMS widget, you can no longer retrieve it, unless you have a back up from your SD card or to your SIM card.

Rather than bash my head further against a brick wall, I downloaded an app to forward my SMS messages to my gmail as a safe guard and copied what messages I could from the only part of HTC sense that was partially working for me.
I had the same with my HTC Desire Z
I received a SMS, and when I opened it, all my messages were gone, except for the received message.
I read in the official android bug-forum, that this might be a issue with sqlite, but it has not yet been fixed in android 2.2. luckily I just migrated everything so most of my sms are in a backup.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=5669
I have had the same issue a few times with the Desire HD ROM running on my HTC HD2...this is ridiculous.
Guys, I experienced these as well. I realised that when this happens, my messages are actually in HTCSense.com... The weird thing is, before having my DHD I was using HD2 with DHD rom... Then when I got my phone 2 days ago, those sms' which were not supposed to be in this phone reappeared... All the histories I had in my HD2 were in... I suppose this is an act of HTCSense.com...
me too!
This happened to me a few days ago..
I went to reply to a text message that I'd forgotten about and my list was blank!
I went to create a new text and it popped up saying the messages app had crashed.. I killed the process and no luck - crashed again.
Restarted the phone and the messages were still gone..
In terms of non-stock apps/configuration that may be worth mentioning I have:
Android Task Killer
Superuser/VISIONary
Titanium Backup
The only other thing I have done is enabled usb diagnostics (recommended in another thread to stop the occasional lag).
Anyone got any ideas?
Now it happend to me, too!
Performed a hard reset on tuesday and everything went finse since than. SMS were automaticly backed up from HTCSense. But 10 Minutes ago all my text massages were gone... They are still on my HTCSense account - but how to restore???
Thats a mess...
Tough luck guys!
I guess I won't be logging in to HTC Sense anytime soon
Tried to restore my SMS with my SMS BackUp programm. Got the notification "Successfully restored 119 items (2663 dups)."
But on my DHD are only the 119 sms...
Seems that there are still some left-overs the massage widget cannot read.
Ideas anyone?
Nobody an idea? or the same problem?

There are a few bugs in the messaging app. In your case, it sounds like your friend's phone number / name has become associated with a different phone number (within the messaging cache). So, even though your display will show your friend's name, that's not where the messages will be sent.
Try to delete all of your threads and then reboot the phone. If that doesn't work, try clearing the data for the messaging app and then reboot your phone. That should do it. If that doesn't work, you can take the most drastic step, which is to do a factory reset, but then you'll need to do a restore of your apps and other data that would get wiped out.
Secondarily, there's a slightly different bug that could be happening (one that is much more rare than the first) - which is that your friend's phone number is the same, except for the area code, as someone else in your contact list. The messaging app only looks at the last 7 digits to determine a match for the phone number, so 415-123-1234 will match 310-123-1234. This one is much more rare, but that's another possibility.
BTW, these problems are internal to a specific Android class, so it doesn't matter whether you use Handcent or the stock messaging app.
Hope this helps.
