I set my phone down for the nite then 5 minutes later I see my screen turn on by itself which I've never seen that before. I pick it up and on my home screen I get the message box that says updating prl just as it would if you went into settings>aboutphone>updateprl the funny part though is just yesterday I manual updated my prl to 60677 because of it not updating. I checked my prl version its still 60677. Just a weird freak thing I thought I would share.

EDIT: Still unable to update my profile or PRL by going to Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates
I had to manually update my PRL to 60677. Also when I go into Sprint Zone > I need help > Update profile it says I have a profile and PRL update but they still fail.

60677 has not been recalled, but they are having numerous problems with the PRL and the Data Roaming
Some people have reported not getting data at all since the PRL update on Roaming, which is the adverse affect Sprint wanted.
The PRL for some reason hasn't been pushed to the Epic or the Transform.
I had it for a short while on DI18, with no adverse effect, but nothing beneficial either. Since EC05, I'm stuck at 76, at least without doing some hack.
I'm not getting 3g roaming

That probably explains my my TWS has spiked and my phone keeps dropping signal recently. At least I know what the eff is going on here. I just tried to update and it's holding steady on 76. My battery life has been sucking too. I wonder if it's all connected.
I was having a problem with my Epic where it wouldn't update the prl or profile. It was on prl 60677.
I wiped the phone with odin and formatted the sd card to no avail.
I took it in for service and no matter what they tried they couldn't get it update. It would get unknown error, error 34, connection error. They did a full reset on the phone and then it was having problems with the data part activating. I could make voice calls but not text or use the internet. If you tried to finish activating the phone it would just fail.
They ended up replacing the phone, the new phone has prl 60675. Now the prl/profile will update with no errors. Now that its updating without errors it not getting any newer version then 60675.
Happened to me last night as well. Was on 76 and still on the same one.

There is a prl update out to 60660. Not syre yet of the changes but have heard it provides EVDO to some 1x customers.
Would like to hear who it helps.
EDIT: I switched yo EVDO only and data shows EV however when on hybrid it stays on 1x.
Thanks for the tip, but I always had EVDO where I live, I got 1 more signal bar though.
Ever since I rooted, I have never been able to update the PRL. Always comes up with an error. Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

Thats not how it works.
just did the update..whats it supposed to do?
PRL stands for Preferred Roaming List... Sprint has agreements with other carriers to roam. Basically it searches for the contracted carriers and utilizes there signal when roaming. Sprint works out deals with other carriers and when they change protocol they update the list. its Basically a $$ for Sprint

FWIW - I totally hosed things up while working on AOSP1.6 bluetooth and had to RUU. For giggles I tried updating profile and prl and it worked.
The RUU showed my software version as the properties line in the build prop of the AOSP ROM I was using when I ran it. I think Sprint is getting software version information and denying updates to those who have changed the default software.
The only time recently I have been able to OTA the prl was when I had default software.
FWIW...?
That's interesting...
Hmm, I wonder if using an RUU backup would enable the ability to update PRL, or if it tries to check for root.
Oh my god, what if Sprint started bricking Heros through OTA updates if they detect it has been rooted?
No sleep for me tonight...

I updated PRL a month ago...
and just updated PRL to 60660.
NO problems..
Awesome! I have always had 1x at home, and now constantly showing EV.
I've been having this problem of not being able to update my PRL/Profile no matter what ROM (even stock) I am one. Whenever I tried to update it, I was getting the "... Unknown error" message. Serendipitously, I found what seems to be at least a temporary solution.
Here's how to do it. Go to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates -> Update Profile or Update PRL. Once the screen shows "The network is preparing your services. Please wait...", wait for about 5 to 10 seconds and then press cancel. If the timing was right, you will get "Session in progress..." Then, the update will finish off successfully instead of showing the "Unknown error" message.
The trick is to get the right timing for pressing the cancel button. If you do not get the "Session in progress..." message, the timing wasn't right so you might want to try it again.
I found out that once you successfully apply the method above, the Profile/PRL update will act normal. I'm not sure if it says like that permanently but for me, I started having the problem again in a few days. But I did the cancel button method to make it back working.
Note that the method above applies to only those who have problem with updating the Profile/PRL.
EDIT: Once you do the cancel method above, try updating the PRL/Profile again and there's a good chance you won't get errors this time.
EDIT2: Like others, this trick is not working every time for me either, but I did find out that if you keep on repeating the cancel trick and then the normal wait, the PRL/Profile eventually updates itself. I'm on 60676 by the way. Not sure why my PRL is not being updated to 60677.
I have this problem for about 2 months already thanks for this tip ima try it out

Good that it worked. I don't think you get any confirmation message for the profile.
For the PRL, you'll either get "PRL updated" or "PRL already up to date" if successful.

Same here, except now it just claims no update is available.
Don't know if this will help anyone having issues in this thread or not, but I was having similar issues after updating to EC05, and the 'cancel trick' wasn't working. I decided to flash back to EB13 and see what happened. After the EB13 retrograde was complete, the update to EC05 started, and was almost completely downloaded when I checked (guess I should have been more patient), like it was already partially there, and then after the automatic update was complete, within a few minutes (5 or 10, didn't track), I was able to update my PRL to 60677, and my PRL and profile update errors went away.
I had a similar problem after updating to EB13 that was fixed by a sprint tech that reset the switch.
Good luck!

It said that it was saying session in progress, but it still took me to 60676 as well. I thought when updating the PRL it lets you know it resets the radio by turning off and back on ? Thats what it use to do on my phone atleast. It did not say that this time.
Thanks for this idea it worked for me!
I *was* on -77 when still on 2.1, now that I have EC05 2.2 it took me back to -76 and updates don't change that even when it claims it did. Weird.
The title is self explanitory. Last time I could update was just before the EC05 update was pushed ota. Since then, I haven't been able to update either. There's another thread about a possible solution involving quiting the process early, but it doesn't seem to do anything. So am I the only one with this problem, and are there any solutions?

Having it for awhile doesn't mean it isn't known.
I have this issue since EC05 and never before or I think is the rom I am using midnight 5.01
I can't do profile update nor prl at all.
Actually when I was stock rooted EC05 I was able to update but since custom rom it is not possible.

It is a Sprint issue. Apparently there was a problem with 60677 so for most phones they stopped the ability to manually update prl. A lot of people have found who made it to 60677 that Sprint pushed a prl update to their phone (custom ROMs or not) and rolled it back to 60676. It has been discussed and marked as a known issue by Sprint reps on the Sprint Community forum.
Is this a sprint wide problem or is specific to just the epics? I mean, are other sprint phones such as the evo ans evo shift unable to update either?

yea that happened with another one of my Epics (this is my fourth), and they replaced that one with my (third?) and it was fine until the update, which borked it also...
My Epic has never successfully updated its PRL when i tried to. I always do it manually with QPST. No big deal for me. Manually updated to 60677 sometime ago when the file came out.
I went back to DI18 today and updated to EC05. Completely stock, no mods, still unable to update PRL. I was at the Sprint store for 3 hours today and they still couldn't get it fixed. They called in to corporate and even "refreshed" my device, still nothing.
I have another Epic coming in a few days. The tech disassembled my phone to try and fix the wobbly keyboard but didn't have much luck.
While I was in there, a guy with an intercept came in and was having the same exact issue. It's not just the Epic. I think it's all Sprint devices. Even the tech couldn't update his PRL on his Evo
Yes, this is a Sprint issue since they recalled 60677 and are rolling back people with a pushed prl to 60676. Reps have confirmed this on Sprint Community Forum.
Running Epic EC05-rooted-SyndicateROM Frozen 1.1.0-Twilight 1.0.4 kernel, no issues updating to PRL 60676 but will not update past that.

This came out the same day Sprint fixed PRL updating so it does nothing. PRL updating is working on 95% of the phones now. PRLs are being released by area. For most people 60676 will be the highest as seen when Sprint rolled me back yet again last night.
When did the system updates start working with no errors or issue popping up? I just ran all of them and everything is a go being stock EC05 rooted.

I've had the PRL and profile update error since it first started 3+ months ago? I've tried everything on the forums to fix it, flashed every stock ROM release etc but nothing fixed it.
I'm leaving for a cross country trip next week and wanted to make sure I had current PRL while going cross country. I ended up putting stock EC05 back on it and took it in to Sprint and they tried several things to fix it but couldn't. Because i was leaving so soon they swapped me out for a brand new unit instead of making me wait a week for a refurbished unit. Cost $35 for the swap and has fixed my PRL/Profile issues as well as my sensor issues so I'm pretty happy.

call sprint tell them you have crappy coverage in your house they will send you a Airrave for free did wonders for me.
I had this issue occur about a week ago. I noticed it after I Flashed EF02 and upgraded my radio to EF10, then downgraded to EF02 and I couldn't upgrade again.
- Then I started getting the PRL and profile error. I called sprint support and they tried to rebuild my network profile but it still didn't work.
They told me to take it in to a sprint store to have a tech look at it. The tech said the reason it errors out it because there are network issues here locally and the towers are down. He also said that i will get that error when there isn't a PRL to update to.
I know both of those are bull**** because I have updated my PRL many times and it doesn't give an error when there is no update.
How to downgrade PRL?
I manually (using Settings>About Phone>System Update) updated the PRL from 60676 (whatever it was earlier) to 01120. I am having a lot of issues with 3G connection now. I haven't come across a way to downgrade my PRL back to the previous one, or manually flash the previous PRL. Does someone know how to do that? Googling this issue did not lead to any ehlpfl threads. Thanks.

My wife's phone has done the same thing since it was new, won't update the prl or profile after all the stuff happening to my Epic and being on the 4th one I wonder about the Epic. I think Sprint tells everyone they have towers down in their area. I called them Saturday because my epic got stuck in roam and I had no data connection and the first idiot I talked to told me that. After the wife got home with her epic and it wasn't roaming I called back and the second person said they had no idea why they told me that, anyway long story short the repair center I had to go to said the same thing, which is total BS. Maybe thats their standard answer to not knowing or admitting they have no clue.
