Is there any way i can unroot and relock the wifi model of the Xoom?
I rooted it but realized I won't be able to tether my iPhone to it through wifi(and bluetooth is slow so I don't want to do that).
So I want to take it back, but I need to get it back to the original and I didn't know that the unroot and relock method was only for the Verizon model.
So what can I do?
There is no way as of now.
Tethering your iphone to it through bluetooth isn't slow. The iphone 4 has a bluetooth 2.1 EDR chip and can get 3 Mbit/s of throughput. I just tethered up and did a speed test and got 2.0 down and 1.2 up.

I actualy get better speed out of my Bluetooth tether than I do with Wifi. Besides Wifi tether is such a battery drain on the iPhone.
Cant you Download the stock IMG. and follow the same directions as the 3g but with the wifi only img? same steps just different img.
Check these out. I have a 3g so I cant test or anything http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014472

I installed the MR1 update a few weeks ago hoping to have better performance, signal, edvo, and to be able to use vz navigator. I learned a few things. First VZ navigator was not bad but it does have a monthly charge and is reliant on data. I really didn't think about tomtom but I decided to purchase the software when I read about it on here. I like the internet sharing with the higher speeds but once again a monthly charge. I now know that with DCD I can access my GPS better with tomtom and I can use internet sharing without the additional cost. However I do have a couple of questions.
Will I see better performance with DCD?
Will I get the same speeds with internet sharing? Currently I am getting 700 tp 1000 Kbps tethered using verizon connection manager. I want to try the wifi router using the phone and I think it will connect better without all the verizon hassle. Any Ideas?
Maybe some others can add on the data speed....my point of view I was stock (before the MR1) and being a tech a custom rom is always better than stock and DCD rom was. Just like WinXP is overloaded with stuff you do not need so was the OEM rom for the 6800...
In all areas for me the performance is better than OEM...I travel with my company so the GPS tt7 is great thx to two members here, data rates, the ICS to my laptop in the airport is excellent, etc...as well as other stuff. I have a verizon PC cell card and I found that the ICS speed from my device is just as good and better at times...
my two cents...
Ok, thanks what about changing the PRI. I have read that you only had to flash to the new rom amd leave the radio and PRI in place and use agps. any thoughts?

Some verizon users did change the pri I have not. I did change to the latest radio rom and all works excellent
Can someone give me a recomendation one which rom to download where internet sharing through usb will work.. straight away from flashing?
If there aren't any.. how about a rom version that'll have wifi tethering working straight out of the box?
I want to flash a new rom because Im using DC and I seem to be dependant on an un updated version of wifi tether and overclocking/underclocking seems buggy on this version.
I'd like to be able to use the internet through some means without tethering over heating my phone( and underclocking seems the solution) but at the same time I seem to be only able to get a maximum of 40kbps as is
So I'm in the market... I figure internet sharing through usb might be a better solution...
Any comments on how fast it works or if it heats up the phone like wifi and drains the battery faster then it charges it???
On a seperate note.. does wifi tethering mess up the initialization of the battery so that it seems like it has less life or says full when its not.. or have I just been really putting the beating on it?
PDANet works without even needing to root.
downloading now... Although I did notice a comment that says doesn't work on gnu/linux I will find out.
You can always download a new ROM directly off your phone.. I usually do it so I don't have to transfer it. I e-mail myself the link, go to it on my phone, download, move it to root, nandroid backup, wipe, flash, tah dah.
very good point
http://www.humans-enabled.com/2009/12/how-to-tether-your-verizon-droid-as.html
I followed these instructions in the video at the bottom...
It works...as long as my phones screen is on.. and then again it wants to go ridiculously slow at times and act worse than dialup...
I've noticed the same thing even through the tethering... is the sprint network extremely bogged down at the moment or is it just me???
Or let me guess... my bill was due yesterday and they are screwing with my data when I need the net to make the money to pay the bill
Aloysius 2.1 is my favorite, I've tried a lot of the others, it seems fastest and wifi tether works great
I flashed an Old DamageControl Rom to get a different PRI, then I flashed back to RegawMOD 2.1t which is my daily ROM, and now I don't even need wifi tethering, just connect to PC via USB, select internet sharing, and away I go! Best method for highest speeds.

Are you talking about the one with the verizon PRI
Edit. When I replied to this, the site was still the old one and once I was done it looked completely different,
I've been looking at the T-Mobile official support forum on their website, and seeing quite a few people with problems running WiFi (or not being able to get it going again) and WiFi tethering after updating to the new 3.14 ROM.
Is it a coincidence that T-Mobile is announcing a new Tethering Plan just after this update? Or did T-Mobile deliberately "kill" WiFi tethering to force users to buy the new Tethering plan?

Wifi tether was never on the HD2 to begin with, so nobody will know if it was a coincidence or not.
Indeed, WiFi tethering is something that has to be added by the end user, so it was never officially sanctioned by T-Mobile to begin with...but as far as intentionally screwing it up, I do not think T-Mobile would do such a thing. I mean comeon, they aren't Apple afterall. I personally chalk it up to a poor WiFi driver stack provided in the new ROM. Installing a new radio MAY help, but it's unlikely.
Here's my theory:
It seems to me that the 3.14 ROM has a feature to turn off or put your data connection in standby mode, (same deal with the wifi), when the device is idle... Which makes sense. It also turns off your data connection if you are connected to wifi. Still makes sense. SO if you are using your phone as a wifi router, that means you are probably on your other device and not on your HD2 and it's idle, so it shuts it down.
Most likely it was implemented to save battery life as well as save wasted network data.
You can't really call it sabotage when this device didn't come with a wifi router program in the first place. Not even an oversight by the developers. Although I admittedly did feel a little cheated when I realized that the US HD2 didn't come with the wifi hot spot. It was one of the features that was highlighted by HTC's marketing team for the HD2. It was also one of the main reasons that I wanted the phone, besides the fact that the screen was huge and it looked awesome. Of course once I started nerding out on it I quickly found that I could just install a cab.
If my theory is correct, maybe someone will come up with a work around. If not, then those of you who depend on the wifi tethering and want a stock ROM, should install Shehrams stock 2.13 ROM with the 2.10 touch drivers. It's pretty much flawless with the exception of a few minor known 2.13 issues. There aren't many. The biggest one for me was the touch sensitivity, which this ROM fixes. With the 2.10 touch drivers 2.13 is pretty great.
Obviously you do need to have HSPL to flash the ROM, but you can always go back to stock by flashing a stock ROM from a microSD card.
I just got around to testing this and i've been connected to my HD2 Wifi Router for over an hour on the web and it hasn't disconnected once... Which program are you using? Also my Wifi signal is great.
ditto on the wrong program, tom codon still works for me.

I really don't see the need for wi-fi tethering. What is its advantage over Bluetooth or USB tethering?

BT is sssssssssslllllllloooooooowwwww compared to wifi tethering and USB tethering
the main advantage over USB tethering is no cable required. The disadvantage is sucking the life right out of your phone's battery

Has anyone compared WiFi VS USB tether speeds? I would think USB would be faster.
I have been trying to figure out how turn use the wireless tethering with 4g. I have no problems running it on 3g but the minute I turn on 4g internet stops working. I does stay connected though. I have downloaded different versions of the wireless tether including the newest version. Is this not suppose to work. This also happens with the sprint hotspot.

I may be wrong but I think wimax is on 2.4ghz and so is most wifi. Maybe deep within the kernel or programs there's something keeping that from happening. Kinda same thing that you can't upload anything with the browser either.
It's just a guess.
Which rom are you using and which kernel???? I've been using 4g tether with myn n koni elite series no problem with stock kernel. I. Fact I got great speed from it too.

this use to happen to me too, i fixed it by changing the channel to 01 on wireless tether.
I use 4g and wireless tether all the time with no problems rls5

Clear/Sprint's WiMax is in the 2.5Ghz band.
I am using Koni's ELITE series II, that i just flashed about 5 mins ago. before that i was using Koni's Elite I. I'm still a noob in this android platform, coming from a long time user of windows mobile. My kernel version is 2.6.32.17 -gee557fd htc-kernel2and18-2 #15. software is 3.70.651.1. I can usb tether, i can hotspot tether, and i can wireless tether, but only on 3g. BtW, I just bought this phone 2 days ago..hardware version 0003.
Is your wifi toggled on? 4g is programmed to disconnect anytime a wifi connection is available

no wifi toggle.
I have changed officially through 6 roms, and none allow me to wifi tether with 4g. . I am now back to my stock nand restore since i haven't been able to figure any of this out. I really ponders me because others are claiming to have 4mb + speed on 4g tether. i'm stuck on 25kb tether on 3g and thats with full signal strength. I have ran out of things to do to get it to work.
one thing i did find interesting was that when i had my 4g connected and was wifi tethering, i was able to open google on my laptop and search for whatever- on the app it begins to read 128kb and so on -, but if i go else where and leave google search - ie..xda, msn-, IE or Firefox would tell me connection failed and i would see the app on my phone go to 0.0kb.
what is someones configuration to try that combination out to see if it works. Could it be the way i rooted? the kernel (although i changed through 3 of them)? the rom (changed through 6 of them)? or just the phone hardware(how would i prove it to sprint to replace it?)? maybe user error!
I have the exact same problem as butwhydoitalk2u. I'm rooted on 2.2 stock. WiFi is turned off. I've tried all channels and none work with 4G.
It started happening about a week ago. I didn't install any new apps. Pretty sure I didn't update anything voluntarily either.
3G works, 4G doesn't work with wireless tether.
Google.com will load on laptop browser, I can search, but any external links won't load after clicking through.
All other sites will time out on laptop browser.
Phone, mobile browser, etc. works fine while 4G is turned on, not sure if it's 4G speeds though.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
I'm not 100%, and I know it is just a technicality and does not matter, but I do believe that WiMax is in the 700MHz band.
As of last night I have this exact same problem.. as soon as I turn on 4g I loose wireless tether.. stock ROMs just rooted.. tried two tether programs...
I was using this for 2 months no issue then all off a sudden... browser on phone works fine..
ANYONE???
Are those that are having issues using a "Switch Pro"?
I dont know what a switch pro is but my phone is a EVO 4g...
Anyone know what's going on?
Been using it heavily for the last week, no issues on Myn RLS5. FWIW I turn on wireless tether first, then 4G.

In the USA, the biggest segment of wimax is around 2.5*GHz, and is already assigned, primarily to Sprint Nextel and Clearwire
Does anyone know if it is every going to be possible to reduce the amount of charge the WiMax radio takes in? If not, does anyone know exactly why it draws so much more than the wifi radio for example?
If you wanna tether 4g with no problem go download the latest cm7 final nightly and use the tether options that's cooked into the Rom. I have no problems with it. I'm currently tethering my Xbox over 4g as I'm typing this post. Hope that helps

Actually XT926M if it matters
Phone is on ST AT&T. It is also rooted.
At first I thought it was just due to low signal strength (300-400kbps), but then even on my home wifi, nope, no faster DL speed than on data.
Anyone know if there's a setting or something in the phone limiting overall DL speed? I think it might have something to do with manipulating phone to work on ATT bc, although I didnt try it on verizon first, I've never ever had a speed problem with verizon.
Thanks for any help
another question
Also while I'm at it, WIll doing a software update remove root or mess with my radios? It was a pain to get root on 4.1.2. My phone keeps showing a system update but I dont know whether I should.
