Forgive me for probably relatively simple questions, but my last involvement on here was the development of WM5 for the HTC Blue Angel! So quite some years ago...
I've found a wildfire in the local park a fortnight or so ago. I tried to make an attempt to find its owner, but the device is locked out (asking for email/password) and there is no SD card or SIM card in it (Guessing someone "obtained" it one way or another, couldn't get into it and threw it away). Anyway, long story short - Police aren't interested, Virgin say the phones likely already been disabled and there's nothing they can do with it - so thats left me with it.
Now when I power it up, it goes straight to a screen that has FASTBOOT highlighted in red. This menu key info shows:
S-ON
HBOOT-1.01.0002
RADIO-3.35.20.10
Dec 27 2010, 17:49:10
The power button and volume down buttons don't respond. Tried to do a hard reset, but the buttons don't respond on the other screen either.
Tried to flash with a WWE RUU. It would fail due to Customer ID error but the phone would subsequently boot to the locked screen again. Managed to create a Goldcard (using my Blue Angel none-the-less!) and now RUUs fail due to a bootloader error I think it is.
When running RUU, the version the device is running is: 2.39.775.1
The highest RUU i've found is: RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed
It seems a shame to just throw the phone in the bin, but I'm now at a loss what to do.
I've guessed the phones on Virgin, as putting that sim card in when the phone is on the lock screen rather than the white one it shows a different message to any other sim card. I can't find a Virgin RUU though if that would help.
HBoot seems to be the newest one, it is not possible to use Unrevoked to unlock the bootloader, so you either wait till Unrevoked releases a new version with a new exploit, or you find someone with a XTC-clip to S-off your HBoot. (or you buy it yourself)
I thought as much.
Is there no way to be able to get the hard reset to work - just to get the device remotely usable?
First take out SIM and memorycard,
1.Switch off phone by removing battery and put battery back in
2.hold the volume down button and press the power on button briefly, with the volume down button held
3.you will now get a screen approx 10 seconds later and with a few options, go to hard reset/factory reset
4.follow options through, this will reset phone to factory settings.
Post if it works or not
h4oxer: I could get to that menu, but there was no response from the buttons. I couldn't change the menu option highlighted, nor did the power button execute what was already highlighted.
By placing a PC49IMG and a rom on the memory card and then booting to that menu, it enabled those options to be selected. I couldn't flash the rom, but I have now managed to perform a hard reset. Now it boots up ok, but when I go to power off, the next time I power on it's going back to the fastboot (highlighted red) screen. I'm running any RUU update to kick it out of fastboot back into the actual OS.

T-Mobile MDA USA weird, "fixies" dont work, stuck in "press send to restore"
Hi, sorry for my poor English is not my first language
I have a T-Mobile MDA USA and happened a weird thing, my phone works properly, was CID unloked and sim unloked with TNT_5.0_Wizard_TouchFLO ROM but 3 days ago I put the USB (PC)to charge the battery, lately when I back to pickup my phone I see in the screen of the phone open and close or put an quit windows explorer(mobil) repetitively, i try to close manually tapping in the "X" but explorer continues opening, then I see in the bar where you put the web address the number "3" and "8" was typing continuously, like when you hold pressing the buttons, but nothing was pressing or making pressure to do that, since I cant close the explorer with the "X" I turn off the phone, when I turn on instead to load normally, appears the Align Screen and for some reason will not recognize the Screen Tapping to align the screen, so, I turn off/on again, but in this time shows a black screen with "Press Send to Restore Factory Defaults, Other Key to Quit" in withe letters, it is stuck in there since, before to put this tread I have read this forum and still I am lost, because i do a Soft Reset or Hard Reset #1,#2,#3, I enter into a bootloader mode to re-flash the ROM with CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE ... IPL/SPL 1.01 and when finish to flash, its suppose the phone restart and windows loading but instead that I get again the same black screen with "Press Send to Restore Factory Defaults, Other Key to Quit" in withe letters, ok, maybe with other recently ROM, then I enter into a bootloader mode to re-flash the ROM... AGAIN... but now with ruu_prodigy_226102_22610105_022511_tmous_wwe_ship... IPL/SPL 2.26 ... and AGAIN I get the same black screen with "Press Send to Restore"... I try to press send key always, but nothing happens, is still stuck there always, I could not get past that, I would really appreciate any help. Thank you so much.
I hate to ask this, at the risk of sounding too obvious, but are you sure that it was CID unlocked properly? I have a Cingular 8125 with IPL/SPL 2.25 and I know it was a hell of an effort to get it CID unlocked, five or six tries before it worked properly and I was able to flash successfully.

yes was CID unlocked properly, I do it with lokiwiz02b like 3 moths ago and I use Wizard Service Tool to see was really unlocked, I could flash any ROM since was unlocked I could use crosbow, faria, Molski even TNT.20273_Professional ROM's but I prefer use TNT_5.0_Wizard_TouchFLO because I feel my phone works more stable and speedy... searching in treads I see Im not the only one with the same problem (stuck in a black screen with the legend " Press Send to restore factory default, other keys to quit" in white letters) but in that treads no one get answer how fix this problem or how get out of the black screen.
like I say before I could put my phone in bootloader mode and re.flash the ROM wherever I want to try running ROMUpdateUtility and always I reach 100% then, when its suppose the phone restart and you will see the windows logo or T-mobile, don't happen that, instead I see the famous black screen with white legend, so the legend says me "press send"... I press send, or any key and nothing happens... I read in other treads when you press send the phone formating but this is not the case, just don't do nothing,.... realy I need some help here
thanks
Hey!
I have the same problem as described above. I've been using CR96 Touch HD WM 6.1 with soft SPL unlock for couple of months with no problems until tonight when I noticed that my phone is hanged. I did a soft reset, but the phone gets stucked at "press send to restore factory default, other keys to quit" screen. At that none of the buttons work, soft resetting just puts it back to this screen, the same goes for taking the battery out. There have been no software or registry changes within weeks - just using basic phone functions. Is there any way how to fix this or what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance
I switched off my working G1 and when I switched it back on the bootloader screen comes up. it seems somehow the ROM has gotten wiped.
I have done a factory reset, nothing changed.
I have a non-contract G1 where can I get a UK ROM image from? will the ROMs available on this site do, they seem to have prerequisites of previous versions that I don't have any more.

When you say the bootloader do you mean the SPL? (htc tricolor screen or androids on skateboards) If you are stuck at the SPL then these update files won't be much help to you. In any case just try putting the update.zip in the root of your sdcard and power on while holding down Home key. Hopefully it will boot into the recovery.

I'm on the tricolour screen, can't get the Android skateboard screen, I tried. So I think I need a full image not an update, any one know where can I get a full UK image? can a full US image be updated to a UK one?
I'll give it a day then try the UK update and see what happens.
Wish i knew why it wiped the ROM, It wasn't messing about with it, it's still locked on t-mobile, it just got a PAYG Sim.

OTA updates (~45MB ones) are full images. The problem is they can only be applied by the recovery partition. If you can not even boot into the recovery partition then there is no hope for you with update zips. The only way to recover a system from the tricolor screen (at the time of this writing) is to send it to htc (or TMo as it were) for repair. They will use a proprietary htc image which is applied from the bootloader, rather than the recovery.
I hope you are still in your remorse period. If you are, return it and get another one.
We have been getting in alot of G1 from HTC.
We have gotten about 10 pcs. that appear stuck in bootloader mode too - and probably why they have been returned to HTC.
Well, we fixed every one of them in about 5 mins - the camera button has a bad design and is sticking - thereby every time you try to start the phone it thinks you want to start in bootloader mode.
Remove the rear cover - reinstall with camera button in normal position and you are all fixed.
BTW - if anyone needs, we have a large inventory of black G1 pre-RC30 in stock. They are in brand new condition with less than a few days usage.

Good catch! I've never seen or heard of a G1 with a stuck camera button before but that would certainly cause the symptoms the OP described. Hope he can use your fix and get it operational again.
update
right, I have tried the camera button fix and intalled an update. it reboots and has a picture of a chip with an arrow, then shows what looks like the factory reset picture and reboots to the tricolor screen and has serial 0 on the screen.
Any ideas? I bought a t-mobile upgrade phone of ebay so returning it to T-mobile isn't an option. it's been fine for three weeks
It probably started as a stuck camera button - fairly common - and now you have corrupted the rom somehow trying to correct it.
hi there, im new here and ive been searching on the forum for a long time, but i didnt see any solution for my problem... (or maybe i was blind) so when i was trying to flash back original ROM from bootloader screen through USB, it didnt show my current image version info on the screen, but it did show the image version that im going to upgrade... however, i still let it updated and it said its succeed. but when my phone going to reboot, it stuck on the "stick together" screen... btw, my phone is PB81120 SS-B3 SPL-2.08. HSPL 8G XE. hope someone can help me solve my problem... thanks first :]
Go into bootloader again and connect the device to your PC via usb (should show USB at the the bottom in bootloader) and run the Rom Update Utility again. But first make sure the ROM is compatible with TmoUS Hd2.
I would recommend flashing stock from the bootloader just to be safe.
but i was trying to install T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_2.13.531.1 under bootloader, and it still the same... :[
Was that what you origonally tried updating to? Or was it a custom rom you had tried?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
that was the latest i tried to updating to, or any different kinds of version of original ROMs... before, i tried to update a custom ROM on it first, but it failed :[ actually, when i first got my phone it was unlocked, so while i was waiting to get the unlock code for it, i decided to install android on it... later on i had successfuly putting android on it, and by that time i got my unlock code too. then i typed it in and my phone just reboot and stuck on the "stick together" screen till now... so i started to look through the forum and found out that most ppl said is to reflash the ROM back to the original one first, and then everything would be alright... but i guess it didnt work on my phone D:
Have you tried a hard reset? (Hold both volume buttons while booting)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
yeah... i tried everything :[
hi,
don't worry, your problem is resolvable. (as long as you see something on screen, you are lucky.)
1) When the stick together screen comes, do you see any numbers on left bottom after waiting for some time say 1 min.
if yes, then your problem is missing OS image only.
in this case, take out the battery. after that, keep volume down pressed all the time and insert battery again. press power button, if mobile does not start immediately. please keep volume down button pressed till the time tricolor screen does not come on. after that connect cable to computer and update normally.
2) If you don't see any number, it may mean multiple things, which all are resolvable. (most likely bootloader stuck in another mode.)
in any case, try steps in given in 1 and report back. before reporting back please install mtty on your computer as it is needed to send commands to mobile to get out of this mode.

Hi
A friend of mine has a HD2, never HSPL or anything and still running on 1.42 rom.... Now everytime it boots it goes straight into the bootloader. Since its never been messed around with I find it odd, seen it before with people with other phones. Would this just be a corrupted ROM and therefore it goes there, would if poss a stock rom flash be able to restore the phone, if that is not the case then a warranty return is still valid, but obv not wanted.
What do you think, will this work? I did search but everyone's posts come up with I task 29 and now stuck... etc and not from a stock bootloader as well!
Cheers any help will be appreciated, my first thing I will get him to try is a rom reflash but that will be tonight, I'll update on the progress then!
First thing I would check is if his volume button is stuck for some reason. Second would be to see if it detects a USB connection, then hard spl and new rom from that point. Keep us posted.

The post above me is correct check and make sure the volume down button is not stuck/Hung in the down position. If it is stuck in the down position like it is being held down at boot then this is the cause of it going straight to bootloader at boot up. If there is no problem with the volume down button then try a hard reset of the HD2. Warning this will reset your friends HD2 tolike it was fresh out the box so any photos, videos, documents, and etc that is not on the SD card they will lose. Also any contacts that are not backed up withan app like Microsoft My Phone will be lost. To do the reset while the HD2 is off bold the volume up and the volume down buttons down and press and bold the power button down. When you see the tri color screen come up release the volume and power buttons and follow the instructions on the screen (hint: you will want to press the vume up button). Now if after the Hard reset your friends HD2 still goes to bootloader at boot up then download and flash the stock ROM for their HD2 you can find it on HTC.com but make sure you varifiy that it is for their HD2 by entering the serial number of their HD2 you can find the serial number look under the battery. To flash the ROM let the HD2 boot up to the bootloader and then connect it to the computer via USB cable and wait for the Serial in the white bar of the boooader screen to change to USB and for your computer to show it recognize the pbone and then run the .exe or RUU wich everone the ROM has.
Never thought of the key being held done will try that first.
Also I won't HSPL'ing as its in warranty and a half HSPL'ed phone is well useless
OK so i feel like a bit of an idiot for this one. Turns out what I call a bootloader and he does is totally different. For me Its the tri-colour screen, for him its the red/orange windows boot screen. So it was all solved by a HR. Great..
Sorry for those who offered the advice but it really was not needed. but solid advice it was, you always can rely on help in here
I am repairing a HTC LEO HD2. It does NOT have a volume button, must have been ripped off or something I don't know. After searching around I found drvupdate-amd64.exe which is Windows Mobile Center and T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_3.14.531.1.exe and they both show errors when trying to connect to the phone, WMC shows phone locked and I have attached a picture for the error for the MOBILE_HD2~.exe. I also included a few extra pictures to show you what I have. I also read something about reset buttons being different colors, the one I have is yellow. I also seen how to do the factory reset but it requires pressing the volume buttons which are not there, is there a way to make contact anyways?
Ive read about a way to install a rom via MICROSD card but I do not understand it fully.
There a orange looking picture and white pictures I have attached, can the current OS be identified by that?
Wiring diagram buttons
Since the os wont boot, you would need to have the phone in bootloader to flash, which is why the update utility can't find the phone, and guess what? You need the volume button to get into bootloader. Same with SD card flashing,,, you enter bootloader with the rom on SD and it flashes,,, still requires vol down tho, so your focus is on repairing/hacking the volume button.(only need vol-down, so ignore the vol up bits)
From pic 2 you have
Radio 2.10.50
(Ignore middle line)
Rom 2.13
Not that any of that matters right now.
