That marks 3 cities that have 4g before Detroit.
Sounds about right though, I wouldn't waste my time putting 4g in Detroit and I've lived in the suburbs all my life.

Your named calling not-withstanding, you're right, it apparently does.
But not anywhere near me.
Actually that's hilarious....the coverage is in the poor areas.
Hamtramck, Detroit, Eastpointe, East Dearborn....oh and don't forget part of Windsor....
I dont think portage has it yet, I'll check downtown later. What area of kalamazoo are you in?
Good to hear about Kzoo. Detroit does not "officially" have 4g either. It works around Wayne State University, and that is about it. They seem to be testing it around the city, but it is far from consistent.

When people say Detroit they are generally speaking of the suburbs.
Since no one practically lives in the city anymore.
As far as your crime comment please point me in the direction of the part of my post that talked about crime.
Here was the point of my post :
It is a FACT that most of the city of Detroit is empty.
People have moved to the burbs and that's all there is to it.
Windsor isn't even in the U.S. and the other cities I mentioned aren't any better off than Detroit ...so why waste your time and START in an empty area??
O.O
Seriously?? I live about 20m from Kzoo i'm gonna have to go check this out.

A number that is likely still an overestimate, a good majority of those people likely don't even have cell phones.
I can't find any kind of breakdown unfortunately though.
At any rate, the point is this, they are rolling it out in areas that are largely empty.
There's been estimates that 40% of Detroit's city limits are empty for god sake.

Please do not bring race into this.
This has nothing to do with race.
All I'm saying is...why bother STARTING in an area that's generally vacant?
Seems to me, especially in Sprint's position, they want to service as many PEOPLE as possible, not just area.
If you have a problem with detroit then maybe you should move so that you don't have to live next to us. As far as the empty land goes we're starting a reverse annexing plan. Soon those empty areas will be a part of oakland and macomb countries.

Most likely they wanted to start in an area of lower population density for 4g devices then converge towards san francisco, kinda like wading across the shallow end before trying the deep end.
Yeah, the towers are definitely going up weekly in the bay, and we'll have full service by October/November/December at the latest.

I got a full 4G signal driving from Oakland to Hayward on the 880 last week. I think it's been there for a while, but since I live in SF, it doesn't really help me much.
yeah, if you check out the map of 4g coverage youll see that the bay is pretty well covered along the major highways (880 and 101) on both sides of the bay. As far as fremont goes we have it inside the city in pockets, mostly near offramps of 880. So its coming, but its neither strong nor complete as far as coverage here in fremont goes.
And as far as where the map is, i forget. Google sprint 4g map or some such im sure youll be able to find it.
I get pretty solid 4G in downtown mountain view, and in Santa Clara it's pretty good... I have to step outside to get it at home, though.
I'm just hoping that this is the initial phase, and by the time 4g is official the coverage will be a lot more complete.
I get it in Mt. View and Walnut Creek.

i work in sunnyvale, just off of 101 and lawrence, and i catch between 1-3 bars of 4G. it could be the signal that seemingly travels up and down 101, as i'm only 1/4 mile away from the highway, if that.
Turned on 4G downtown Lansing today and its connected, getting about 500kBs down and 125kBs up.
Confirmed by the airport and down in Holt too.
I've been seeing WiMax towers for awhile and I check once a week, but its live in testing
Here are two screen shots, I changed the Speed test setting to kB/s from kpbs
I've reinstalled Sensorly Map Viewer and will begin collecting 4G data and hopefully get a good map on there.

Sprint is probably testing smaller populated areas first. Theres a lot of Sprint customers in Detroit so they need to ramp up for it. Sprints Feb. 9 "magic trick" better be nation wide 4G. They were the first to start advertising it and will be the last with nation wide coverage.

Can anyone near Eastwood towne centre confirm if that tower is live?

I'm really surprised Detroit doesn't have it yet, Sprint must not be very popular there I'm guessing? Next time you're outside somewhere try holding your phone from the bottom right corner and seeing if it tries to connect to Sprint, when I was driving around earlier there where a bunch of places where it would say Connecting to Sprint but disconnect and sitting the phone down or blocking the wimax antenna killed the signal like no other.

Whether they can get the 4G turned on in specific areas depends on a variety of factors - including obtaining the permits from the local cities, easement rights from the property owner if they're not hopping on an existing tower, etc.
Places they WANT to provide service versus where they're ALLOWED to provide service don't always go hand in hand.

Wow, didnt expect 2 ppl from NEO on here. Anyways, I dont think sprint cares much for anyone not in the three C's. I really thought we would get wimax here in akron when CLE went live.
Y-town? Nice. That's my hometown. Been in VA for about a year now though.
I tried in Campbell and got connected and got an IP. Signal quality was poor and I was only able to get 822kbps down. I couldn't even web browse because I was losing signal.
I got home on the south side and couldn't even connect to 4G.
Will we receive a text message from Sprint or any other indication when 4G is fully live here?

From a business standpoint I wonder why Youngstown would get 4g before Akron. I lived in Youngstown for 4 years for college I'm not trying to trash it. If they were actually going to add 4g all the way along the turnpike I would understand that but considering clear is teetering on bankruptcy I don't figure they have the money for that. And as someone else pointed out Akron has a significantly larger population and likely a similar area to cover although I haven't looked that up.

Whole state sounds good to me but isn't happening anytime soon.
Honestly I see most metro areas of the state getting it soon. I am in Springfield which is in between Columbus & Dayton. Dayton doesn't have it yet, but Columbus does. I hope they build towers west instead of going straight to Dayton. They will probably have Dayton go live and then fill in between. I could never expect my dying city to get 4g before Dayton. Maybe Sprints big announcement is going to be live 4g everywhere. A lot of places have been popping up lately & a lot of them are smaller too.

They should hit all of the cities around universities first -- the younger generation are the ones using the data the most and thus the ones that need it.
Next up should be: Akron and Kent.
