I have spent the last 2 days reading and watching all the information so I can help my brother Root his My Touch 3G phone. I cant handle his crying and *****ing anymore about what horse.... his phone has become after T-Mobile pushed Froyo. Once comfortable enough I followed direction from unlockr.com and was able to create Gold card with my 16 Gig Kingston MicroSD.
I ran into couple of issues during, and I will list them here in case someone runs into same issues.
Problems:
1. I had 3 MicroSD cards 2Gig, 4Gig, and 8Gig all SanDisk. None of them worked. I would get as far as step when I need to flash the sappimg.zip but phone couldn't see it. When I decided to use my 16Gig Kingston card it worked the first time.
2. I had to create a new Gold card Img after I switched cards.
3. During the CID acquisition when I ran adb shell; cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid; it came back as error. I forgot to place my Micro SD card back into the phone.
4. Got error when flashing for wrong model number. Double, triple check the CID code as well as the Reverse CID code.
5. During the HEX Editing portion of the process when selecting Offset lines I failed to select line 00000170 as well. The best way to make sure how to do this is to select backwards from 00000170 - 00000000.
Back to my issue. I flashed the phone but instead of rebooting it is stuck on Vodafone red screen. I rebooted and went back into FastBoot:
My phone went to:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.009 (SAPP31000)
CPLD-13
RADIO-3.22.20.17
From:

Is my phone bricked? Is there a way to reset and restart this process. I googled this issue but no one seems to have a definite solution for this issue.

You flashed the wrong sappimg. Follow the "Old school" rooting guide in my signature and you'll be fine.

During my search, I started to think more and more that I did something wrong during the flash process. As you pointed it out, I flashed wrong sappimg.zip. However I might be in a bit of a tight spot. When I did this for my brother, I wiped my phone so I could use my 16 Gig Kingston MicroSD. Since then I have replaced that card back to my phone and restored my phone. I also wiped the Gold Card image that I had on it.... Inability to boot into the Android system to format the card would impair me from making a new one, wouldn't it? I can get into the fast-boot menu, and I did try to continue with the process, but my laptop is unable to "see" the phone.
Is there anything else I can do, or am I over thinking this?

If you've got Android on your HD2 you can use it to make the goldcard. Or any other phone running Android for that matter.

Thank you. My common sense made me think about that option, but as you can tell I am not as technically knowledgeable to follow my instincts. I am learning, and I do appreciate you taking time to share the knowledge.

It took a bit but the 8GB Kingston MicroSD card that my brother ordered is finally here.I restarted the entire process as you suggested from the link that is in you signature. "The old school way". I remade the Gold card using my phone. His MyTouch 3G recognizes the sappimg.zip file with no issues. However once I use the trackball to update process gets stuck at first step:
[1] SYSTEM - Unzipping
[2] USERDATA
[3] BOOT
[4] BOOTLOADER
[5] RADIO_V2
[6] RECOVERY
[7] SPLASH1
Update is in progress...
Do not power off the device!
Any ideas?

You are ok untill now..You have not bricked your phone....you can still recover it using fast boot or recovery...
serach for the correct topic on this fourm...you will surely get info
Ive tryed everything in fastboot and i cant get into recovery. If i could i would have fixed it by now
Tried Goldcard method as well?
I cant do a goldcard again. I cant access the operating system. I cant access the recovery screen. Al i can do is access fastboot. And from there i just get remote: not allow when i try to modify things. I just need a BIG reset button on this phone. Im hitting my head so hard against the wall trying to figure this out. I try to read up but everywhere you go its something different and its all soooooooo confusing. No one makes nay sense
If this is a bad place to ask this, please tell me. My head hurts and im very frustrated because i followed someones write up step by step and i got screwed over. I know it can be fixed!
OK dude, just breathe. By looking at your SPL you've got the myTouch 1.2 (the one with the 3.5mm jack) so you've got o use the goldcard method which is done through hboot and fastboot, if you can get one you can get the other. Let me get to a computer and we'll fix your problem. In the mean time post back and let me know your still here.

You need to fastboot an engineering spl first.
I believe 1.33.2010 should do it.
Flash back to the operator's ROM and start all over again; safest approach if you are having a difficult time understanding how to troublshoot your problem.
I try to load a new sippimg.img ( from my understanding that a new spl) And everytime i load it, it says model id wrong and fails to load.
And in fast boot i cant load anything new cause i get the remote: not allow.
How am i suppose to create a gold card another gold card without having access to the phones main operating system?
I just went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019 and followed that and wasnt able to load the recovery image cause because remote: not allow. So im stuck
Try using this.

I cant create a new gold card, i cant access the phone I created one before but it still gives me a the wrong mode ID code. And i cant do adb because i cant turn on USB debugging since i cant access the phone.
I followed the steps in the link. I loaded the sappimg.img and it loaded it but didnt ask to confirm the install, but it did show a loading bar and when it was completed it never said anything about restarting or anything. It just detected it, loaded it and then nothing. So after that i tryed to load the spl, radio and recovery and it still gave me remote: not allow.
It seems my gold card somehow undid its self. I need to figure out how to make one without being able to access the actual phone options. I realy do appreciate you guys helping!!!! If this gets fixed ill kiss all of you. JK!
How long have you had your phone?
3 days But i didnt buy through t-mobile, so no warranty for me
The only other option I can think of is to see if a friend with the same phone can let you borrow his. Luckily the stuff you need to do isn't phone specific, it's only specific to the SD card, so you can remake it with another phone and then use it to finish your's.
I believe the CID that you get (that ridiculously long number you have to copy) is specific to the SD card. I just swapped the goldcard I made for my phone into my wife's and the CID remained the same. Just not sure if using a different model phone will work.
You don't happen to have the CID still do you?

I still have all the emails for when i originally made a gold card and the goldcard.img.
You can try doing the steps in Hex Editor, where you copy the lines from the goldcard image over to your SD card again. Then try flashing the sappimg again and see what you get.
On it! :cross fingers:
I did all the Hex editor stuff. And i still get Wong model ID when i try to install a new sappimg.img. I tried several times and double checked the hex editor.

I was attempting to root this phone using the unlockr one click method using a gold card. Upon loading the ROM and rebooting the phone became stuck on the vodafone flash screen.
I am now attempting to HBOOt the phone using a gold card but keep getting the "Main Version is Older" message.
Can someone please help me or provide an response that may assist me in finding a solution.
TIA
Your goldcard is jacked up. Try remaking it or trying a different SD card.
Im also getting the same probelm. I try it on 2 different micro sd card and i still get the same message. What am i doing wrong.
Same deal. If your getting Main Version is Older, then your goldcard is jacked up. Did you repeat the entire procedure to create the goldcard when you tried the second SD card? You can't use the same goldcard.img for both SD cards.
You can't bypass mainversion is older with a gold card only the region check.. can you get into a rom? And if not what did you flash to break the rom?
Do you have a custom recovery (and can you boot into it) you said you used one click

I thought that was the whole point of the gold card??? I could be wrong though.
You need a different sappimg.nbh file. Search this forum for Main Version Older and you'll find the one that I used.

I try it with 2 brand new cards. One was the sandisk 2gb and the other was the tpk 2gb. i did everything i needed to do to make it a goldcard and they both do the same thing. I just dont understand if they jacked up... why would they boot up on the phone when i press the vol down and power button? Then it loads everything but stops when it saids the Main version is older. Maybe is the Sappimg thats corrupted? Sorry for the questions but im new to doing this on android phones. Ive done the jailbreak on iphones. Im trying something new here.
I resolved this , thanks for the help, I recreated a gold card with a different sdcard and all went fine.
Hello!
Yesterday I bought my first android phone, an used HTC Magic. I've decided to root it with Universal Androot method. I've done everything step by step and I though it works.
After that I wanted to see new recovery menu, installed by ROM manager. Suprisingly it wasn't working, all i saw was a quick blink of clockwork menu and then it just started to bootlooping itself.
After a bit of struggle I managed it to start the system, but there's another problem. It's not reading my SD card. I tried it with different, formatted cards but still no good. The only piece of information I can get from my phone that it always says "SD card removed" at the beginning of turning on, even if there's no card inside. Recovery don't work.
Here's my fastboot screen:

I thought about flashing some other recovery and then trying to apply a fresh ROM, but I don't know how to do it without using SD card.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

You have allready root i suppose...
then skip step 1-4... start at 0 then jump to 5...
If you have no root, then do every thing..
Problem solved.
I had PerfectSPL, so I've crack it with RUU method and rooted it properly.
Now everything works great.
Thanks for interesting though.

I've gotten my Magic working again, but my SD card is also not being recognized.
I've got what I believe is a good gold card, but I cannot do the RUU method.
Can you let me know what you did to get this to work, or at least to get my SD card functionality back?
Thanks.
Hi,
I am experiencing exactly the same problem as you had described in your original post. I see that you seemed to have fixed your problem, can you direct me to a guide or a how-to on resolving it in the manner that you have done?

I have searched for a while and found different answers and have tried several solutions but I make no progress. What am I doing wrong?
I have a myTouch 3g 1.2 with this on my hboot page:

Summary:
-Bought mytouch brand new with T-Mobile
-Flashed clockwork mod and rooted previously successfully creating a gold card, recovery, and flashing ROMs
-Factory reset for clean wipe and froze
-I could get into hboot and fastboot no problem and even get my computer to recognize the device
-A "friend" tried his luck and gave it back to me resulting in the bootup screen being Rogers and unable to be recognized by my computer
-I can still flash SAPPIMG however results in "Main Version is Older" update failed. From the tutorials I read I needed to create the gold card. I did that after formatting fat32 with a kensington 2GB card.
-I have tried to flash the Engineering SAPPIMG also, but it gives me the same response.
As of now I still have access on the phone to hboot and fastboot but am stuck as to how to get the phone to take an update file.
Help! Please!
So you've got the myTouch with the 3.5mm jack, correct? If so, go smack your "friend" for being an idiot and tell him to be glad he didn't brick your phone. If your getting "Main Version is Older" there's something up with your goldcard. You don't have the goldcard you created when you originally rooted?
At either rate, once you get your goldcard squared away, just use my guide to essentially re-root, but in your case get your phone fixed too. Here's my guide to follow. Since you already know how to flash ROM's and such, you of course can opt out of installing CM 6.1 and use whatever ROM you want. Just use the guide up to step #9.
DonJuan, are you sure the goldcard fixes the Main version is older problem? I thought it only fools hboot into thinking you have SuperCID (can install ROMs for any region).
AFAIK, it's suppose to also force the phone to bypass the version check as well.
Thank you for the quick response. I thought that I had the gold card equipped. I used the goldcard.img from when I had previously made a gold card with the same phone and memory card so I assumed that nothing would have changed. I opened the HEX editor and changed the lines 00 to 170 with the gold card image and saved it.
With my phone being the way it is, would the gold card have changed at all? Or is it device specific?
I'm going through the process carefully this time to make sure I do it right. I appreciate it!
Sounds like your good. The goldcard.img is specific to the SD card, so as long as its the same one you should be good.

I have an issue I have been trying to figure out on my own. I have scoured the interwebs searching for a solution and every time I think I've found one, it ends up being a road-block. I'd like to be able to post a fix for other people in various forums if I can find a way around it. So here's my story...
So a week ago a rooted my phone, I used Universal Androot and the Rom Manager, my phone was perfect with the multi touch, pinch zoom and other goodies...then I got greedy. I started seeing Hero Roms flying around the web, I wanted one. In this process I nearly bricked my phone, so I decided to put a stock rom back on it. My intention was to re-root and just leave cyanogenmod on my phone.
The problem is...dun dun dun, the dreaded Removed SD Card error. Now my SD Card only reads in hboot. Something during the OS loading disables my SDCard. I have been sitting at my computer for almost the last 48 hrs trying to find a way to fix it, because phone is semi-useless without it. Here is what I have tried:
1 fastboot -c board.sapphire disable_sdcard=0;
This gives me an ok and finish status but appears to have done jack once OS is loaded
2 fastboot oem enableqxdm 0;
this is not working because I have the dreaded perfected SPL
3 I have tried the [How-to]Fix Perfected SPL;
all of the SAPPIMGs give me incorrect Model IDs
4 I have tried re-downloading stock ROMs in case it was corrupted, nada.
I have been trying to find a way to flash the SPL without an SDCard and it doesn't seem possible...

Thank you to all constructive posts, let us get one step closer to ruling our phones.
Sound like the problem that I had. Different phone (mines a Rogers Magic) but same issue.
I ended up having to install the offical Rogers rom with the RUU.exe and then use the fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 command. Then I could re-root and do what ever I wanted.
My thread is here
Any particular mode the phone should be in for RUU Rom to read it? Sorry for the newbie questions but I really would like to enhance my knowledge.
DO NOT DO THAT!!!!! Where did you get the sappimg to return your phone to stock? What ROM are you currently on?
I got the ROM from Shipped Roms, it's a stock rom. I'D LOVE to be able to flash an SPL without the sdcard so that I could enableqxdm 0 the card reader back into exitence. I am down for trying all options.
The phone is rooted, via a file manager I have access to the system files if that helps at all... is it possible to edit init files and put them back on the phone? would that help?
The thing is, you can't use an RUU like the other guy did to get an engineering SPL loaded, you'll have to use the goldcard method to do that with your phone. As for the sappimg, there's about probably about 30 different images you can get from that thread. Which one did you download specifically? If you didn't get the 2.10.531.4, then you grabbed the wrong one. You can get the right one from here and flash it from hboot. I would try that before going the goldcard route.

Have you checked to see if your getting the SD card mount issue from recovery?
Yeah sorry I didn't mean for you to copy what I did as mine is a rogers Magic and things are different for your phone.
I was just indicating how I had to fix my phone.
Hey Don, Yea I got the 2.10.531.4, from S-R.com, its initially how I saved the almost brick, and the stock recovery does give me a E:\cant mount SDCARD.
Part of me thinks the rom ".4" has some kind sdcard block...
And I am unable to get the CID for my phone without the phone reading the sdcard, it's like walking a maze, I get close to what I think is figuring it out, but no luck yet, and I would love to be able to cross post a fix to other forums with people that arent having luck with fixing this issue.
That's easy, your CID is T-MOB010. The ".4" does have an SD card block as I've used it several times in the past. That's the shipped ROM for the myTouch 1.2. I would start by reloading the sappimg.zip from the link I provided. It's probably not going to make a difference, but is about the easiest double-check to do. The other option is to use the "old school" rooting method in my signature to get an engineering SPL loaded and then trying the two fastboot commands you tried before. I imagine the first command appeared to go through but in reality, didn't, similar to trying to run the "fastboot boot" command on a perfected SPL.
Will do. Will report back with results soon

There's two different CIDs. The one you get for the goldcard is specific to the SD card. You also have a Customer ID which is particular to the mobile company your phone is locked to. The one I provided is the CustomerID.
