[Q] 32a magic mytouch 3g unable to get to recovery - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I have searched for a while and found different answers and have tried several solutions but I make no progress. What am I doing wrong?
I have a myTouch 3g 1.2 with this on my hboot page:
Sapphire PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT - 1.76.0010 (SAPP31000)
CPLD - 13
RADIO - 6.35.10.10
Jan 14 2010,00: 14:58
Summary:
-Bought mytouch brand new with T-Mobile
-Flashed clockwork mod and rooted previously successfully creating a gold card, recovery, and flashing ROMs
-Factory reset for clean wipe and froze
-I could get into hboot and fastboot no problem and even get my computer to recognize the device
-A "friend" tried his luck and gave it back to me resulting in the bootup screen being Rogers and unable to be recognized by my computer
-I can still flash SAPPIMG however results in "Main Version is Older" update failed. From the tutorials I read I needed to create the gold card. I did that after formatting fat32 with a kensington 2GB card.
-I have tried to flash the Engineering SAPPIMG also, but it gives me the same response.
As of now I still have access on the phone to hboot and fastboot but am stuck as to how to get the phone to take an update file.
Help! Please!

So you've got the myTouch with the 3.5mm jack, correct? If so, go smack your "friend" for being an idiot and tell him to be glad he didn't brick your phone. If your getting "Main Version is Older" there's something up with your goldcard. You don't have the goldcard you created when you originally rooted?
At either rate, once you get your goldcard squared away, just use my guide to essentially re-root, but in your case get your phone fixed too. Here's my guide to follow. Since you already know how to flash ROM's and such, you of course can opt out of installing CM 6.1 and use whatever ROM you want. Just use the guide up to step #9.

DonJuan, are you sure the goldcard fixes the Main version is older problem? I thought it only fools hboot into thinking you have SuperCID (can install ROMs for any region).

AFAIK, it's suppose to also force the phone to bypass the version check as well.

Thank you for the quick response. I thought that I had the gold card equipped. I used the goldcard.img from when I had previously made a gold card with the same phone and memory card so I assumed that nothing would have changed. I opened the HEX editor and changed the lines 00 to 170 with the gold card image and saved it.
With my phone being the way it is, would the gold card have changed at all? Or is it device specific?
I'm going through the process carefully this time to make sure I do it right. I appreciate it!

Sounds like your good. The goldcard.img is specific to the SD card, so as long as its the same one you should be good.

Rogers HTC Dream Error 0002802 not allowed

Hi Just got a Rogers Dream from a friend in the following tree color state:

1) I tried safely to install Rogers rom for the htc dream but PC does not detect my USB port failing with error 170.
2) Read Forum for 2 hours, and tried stock firmware, made sure SD card formatted FAT32, DREAIMG.nbh and update.zip it did boot, loading... and error 0002802 not allowed showed.
Can someone point me to the right direction for the next steps?
What kind of more information can I provide? And how to get it? Thx
what are you trying to achieve? That dream is running the 1x radio with a stock T-Mobile spl, thus ought to be used like a T-Mobile g1,
You could run a true rogers nbh via SD card.. but this is probably not going yo give you the phone you wish to use.
Tell me the end state you want to be in we can help you get there.
My goal was to use the damn phone, after 12 hours of struggling I was able to install Haykuro Rogers dream, after that I want to SPL 1.33.2005, Rooted my phone and I installed cm-5.0.7-DS-test5 Rom.
All is fine now thanks for the response.
Ive got exactly the same issue, formatted SD to FAT32 and copied DREAIMG.nbh (RC7) to it. I get the not allowed error and then drop to the multi colored screen with:

I am trying to follow the instructions on the cyanogen wiki to install Cyanogen 5.0.7 on a stock Dream purchased in Australia.
Any pointers will be appreciated, I have tried to reformat, different SD cards without any success.

Because the nbh is for T-Mobile in the states.. thus fails the carrier checks elsewhere in the world.
To get around these checks a goldcard is needed.
But before looking into that.. make sure you can't root by flashreq first. (I can't say I've used the Australian rom so I'm not really sure of your phones state.. the gold card will let you flash that nbh.. but if you can install recovery by flashreq that is safer)
It's usually best to search for people who have rooted the same stock rom as is installed on the phone.
i have a tmobile g1 its giving me the same error code"0002802" when i try to flash the DREAIMG.nbh file from bootloader. so i cant downgrade to rc29. i want to root the phone.any solution?

I answered this best I could here
With both a potential solution:
Did you try a goldcard yet? what was the result?
And a question to help understand why:
Did you answer my question last time of when your phone was jtagged was it with my solution in the wiki or Omnia's solution?
Okay I have the same problems as the op and I have the same radio, spl everything is exactly the same. The phone cannot boot into recovery whenever it starts it goes directly to bootloader. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Not even downgrading
Hello guys,
I tried already one goldcard, made all the procudures to get one and also didnt work, with the gold card says that no IMG not found, with the DREAIMG from USA and EU says that is 'not allow'. I tried as well the DREAIMG.nbh from USA and EU. I bought my phone in Holland, and his configuration is:
DREa110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29
If you can help me another way out. I'ven been try and I am stucked on this for 3 days.
0002802
strange, in my case I got a phone which I did not know if it was from Europe or the US. I just happened to get the "0002802" error when using what I assume to have been the wrong firmware (European in my case) as when I tried the US version everything worked fine.
Though for the Rogers phone the whole process seem slightly more complicated (check the Cyanogmode wiki for it under Full_Update_Guide_-_Rogers_Dream_EBI1 -- sorry Im new here and I cant post a link =D)

MyTouch 3g 1.2 Fastboot issue

Hey guys, I have spent the last 8 hours trying to figure this out.
I have a MyTouch 3g 1.2 and I want to root it and install Cyanogen's new ROM. I have been following the rooting guide from TheUnlckr.com.
I am able to complete everything fine (I needed to substitute the sappimg for the Sapphire one to make it work), but it finally completed.
When I go to fastboot with SDK, I can see my device, so everything looks fine. However, when I go to flash the radio, hboot, and recovery images, I get a error that says:
Code:
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>fastboot flash radio radio.img
sending 'radio' <21504 KB>...FAILED <remote: not allow>
finished. total time: 0.016s
This is the pattern for each of the files I try to flash...
This is where I'm at, and I haven't even gotten to flashing the ROM yet. So, I currently just have a stock device. Can someone please help me out?
I tried using the following sappimg:
2.53.707.2_-_sappimg
SAPPIMG_Sapphire_T-Mobile_US_2.10.531.4_release_signed
the following SPL:
update.Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2010-signed
the following recovery images:
recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.6.2G.img
flashrec-1.1.2-20090909.apk
flashrec-1.1.3-20091107-2
flashrec-20090815
I'm clearly all over the place now. Someone please point me in the right direction. I tried several different ways to fix it, but none of them worked. The most reason I tried was the method of using the flashrec to flash a recovery image while the phone is on, instead of fastbooting it. That didn't work because it kept saying it was the wrong image for the phone.
Thanks in advance guys. And believe me, I've been searching and searching.

before you can flash anything with fastboot, you have to shoehorn that engineering SPL into the phone somehow (probably have to make a goldcard, but I don't know for sure on the 1.2 mytouch)
which rooting guide are you using? (there are many different ones on unlockr, some of which are terribly obsolete)
also, flashrec isn't a recovery image, its a one-click rooting app that only works on android 1.5 (pretty sure the 1.2 mytouch only runs 1.6)

This was the guide I was using. (I can't link to outside sites, so I'll just copy it as text) http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/11/how-to-root-the-mytouch-1-2-and-fender-mytouch/
I also successfully created a goldcard, and installed all the ADB stuff. The part that's hanging me up is the flashing of the recovery image via fastboot usb.
I'm so close! I have successfully rooted two other mytouch devices, but they were not the 1.2 version.
Any more help would be great!

what "sapphire" image did you substitute? and what happened when you tried to use the sappimg that they gave you in the instructions?
When I tried using that image, it just said "wrong file for this phone" or something like that. I know the goldcard was done right, though, because it works with another sappimg. I'm trying to follow cryptsmoker's guide now. I'm going to try and use the engineering img/SPL now. We'll see how it goes.
Ok, now I'm getting frustrated.

I just got the Model ID incorrect!
Update Fail!
This happens with every sappimg I use except T-Mobile 2.10.531.4. I'm sure that's the stock one, so that's probably why. I'm just so ticked.
To clarify again, After I hboot the sappimg, I reboot and instead of being taken to the Magic screen, I'm taken to a standard MyTouch splash, then Android splash, then MyTouch setup screen. My touchscreen works the entire time. Is this because I basically just reinstalled the stock ROM?
I just can't seem to get ANY other sappimg to work beside the stock one. I've used three different goldcards and all of them work the exact same way.
Please help!
Dane
yeah, you are just reinstalling the stock files (stock SPL and radio)
just because the t-mobile sappimg works doesn't mean you made the goldcard right.
the point of the goldcard is to trick the phone into installing a non-stock sappimg, you could take a brand new SD card, put the stock sappimg on it and you would still be able to flash it using vol-down+power
open the goldcard.img in HxD and make sure it contains all the lines (including all of line 170), if it doesn't then you need to start over from the beginning (get cid again, reverse it again, get a new goldcard.img)
If goldcard.img is ok, open the sd card in HxD again and make sure all of the first 170 lines of the sd card match the goldcard.img
also, some SD cards just don't work for making goldcards. I used a lexar 1gb, and kingston 2gb cards are reported to work
I didn't paste over the entire 170 line while making the goldcard. I used the "select" feature and chose 0-170...that could be my mistake. Here we go again!
I actually never got this to work the first time. I was really excited since I heard I would be getting the T-Mobile update soon, but then I read a little further and saw that the 2.1 is not yet included...so, I will be figuring this out today, mark my words!
Wish me luck!
Dane
I had a similar problem and it was the goldcard. Although I had made the goldcard and it worked before, using the same goldcard I get the same error message as you. I made a new goldcard and it worked flawlessly to flash using fastboot. Make sure you are using one of the brands that are know to work.
OK, new problem now. I installed everything and got it all to work. I actually had the stock cm rom working (an out of date version from the unlockr). Well, I tried to update and I started by flashing the 6.35.16.19 radio. Apparently that worked but now nothing else will.
In the HBOOT screen, I see this:

I figure I need to get back to the stock radio I started with (3.22 or whatever), but I can't. Even when I try to flash the radio in fastboot, it takes way too long and never finishes.
Your speedy replies are greatly appreciated.

Got your pm.
Facts: STOP MESSING UP YOUR DEVICE.....
You are working in the blind... mixing bad spl and radio combos.....
So STOP what you doing and read and understand before you continue.
You can't just take any sappimg.zip and apply it... I has complete partitions layout... like the spl, radio, recovery ect...
So if you take whatever you find on the net and apply it, you will **** your device up... just like you did now...
Having the 6.35 radio and a perfected 1.33 spl... Just bad for business!
What is your current status:
Access to adb?
Access to fastboot?
Access to recovery?
Access to rom/system?
Also post fastboot info...
Then we can take it from there :0)
And for gods sake... STOP flashing stuff.
I have access to adb, fastboot, and hboot. No ROM/system or recovery.
Clarification: Since I cannot access the system of the phone, I do NOT have access to ADB. I cannot see the device when I type in 'adb devices' within the AndroidSDK\tools path.
Fastboot info:

the hboot: hboot-1.76.2007.nb0
the recovery: recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img
I have since tried to go into one of your other threads and at least match up my SPL/Radio combo. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
OK.... you are now in a god situation...
You have a good combo and eng spl...
We can work with this....
1) boot into fastboot
2)download the fastboot commander (magic).... check my signature
3)start the tool... does it print the device info?
If yes, do this:
Go to the magic 32A tab.
Push "flash old".
IF all successful, then go to "misc" tab and push "reboot device".
When device has rebooted, push "print device info".
Now copy all text and posted here...
IF you get ANY errors... DO NOT REBOOT, DO NOT CLOSE THE TOOL...
Just take the output + the content of the "actual tab" and post here....
Again, IF you get ANY errors... DO NOT REBOOT, DO NOT CLOSE THE TOOL!
If the tool does not print the device info, then post here...

I was attempting to root this phone using the unlockr one click method using a gold card. Upon loading the ROM and rebooting the phone became stuck on the vodafone flash screen.
I am now attempting to HBOOt the phone using a gold card but keep getting the "Main Version is Older" message.
Can someone please help me or provide an response that may assist me in finding a solution.
TIA
Your goldcard is jacked up. Try remaking it or trying a different SD card.
Im also getting the same probelm. I try it on 2 different micro sd card and i still get the same message. What am i doing wrong.
Same deal. If your getting Main Version is Older, then your goldcard is jacked up. Did you repeat the entire procedure to create the goldcard when you tried the second SD card? You can't use the same goldcard.img for both SD cards.
You can't bypass mainversion is older with a gold card only the region check.. can you get into a rom? And if not what did you flash to break the rom?
Do you have a custom recovery (and can you boot into it) you said you used one click

I thought that was the whole point of the gold card??? I could be wrong though.
You need a different sappimg.nbh file. Search this forum for Main Version Older and you'll find the one that I used.

I try it with 2 brand new cards. One was the sandisk 2gb and the other was the tpk 2gb. i did everything i needed to do to make it a goldcard and they both do the same thing. I just dont understand if they jacked up... why would they boot up on the phone when i press the vol down and power button? Then it loads everything but stops when it saids the Main version is older. Maybe is the Sappimg thats corrupted? Sorry for the questions but im new to doing this on android phones. Ive done the jailbreak on iphones. Im trying something new here.
I resolved this , thanks for the help, I recreated a gold card with a different sdcard and all went fine.

[Q] bricked phone i think i have exhausted all options

i have a mytouch 3g. belives its the fender edition but white from what i have been reading.. i got it this way from my friend, ive tried the gold card option, though i dont have this phones cid i used my buddys from another mytouch 3g. it still says model id incorrect when i try to flash sappimg, ive tried switching it from .zip to .nbh which i have been reading sometimes you dont have to have the goldcard. ive tried all different kinds of sappimg's nothing works. it either says model id incorrect or something about it being to old firmware wise. i can get into fastboot and hboot so its not a total loss yet i dont think. when i turn the phone on regular it stays on the vodafone slash screen. and i have also read that it should be because he flashed the wrong radio, firmware that wasnt compatible? ive tried just flashing a recovery but wont let me. keeps trying to flash sappimg even if not present. i have 2 sd cards one is a sandisc and the other is pny could that be the issue, do i still need the kingston even though they both still read after the gold card process. i am at a complete loss if someone could please shoot me in the right direction that would be great.
this is what it says on the hboot/fastboot screen:
sapphire unknown 32A ship s-on h
hboot-1.33.0009 (sapp31000)
cpld-13
radio-3.22.20.17
may 8 2009, 21:02:32
All the symptoms indicates a faulty goldcard or wrongly preparation of the same.
Let's start with the basic....
You do not have the optimal radio for your device.
You have "cpld-13" which is a hybrid between the 32A and 32B. You have the ram from the 32A but use a 32B radio.
The radio you have is for the pure 32A devices.
To fix that, you need to flash "something" using the goldcard. Why?
Because the spl you currently running on the device is "perfected; with other words, it will NOT allow you to flash anything... that's why you get denied every time you try to flash.
The goldcard will circumvent this by letting you flash any signed update package (sappimg.zip/nbh) which matches the current version of the firmware or anything higher. The good thing about the goldcard, is that it will bypass the id check. This way you can flash packages meant for a different device, which properly is the cause to why you have a mismatched radio/spl combo. If you get an error regarding the version nr, you are properly trying to flash something which has a lower version than what is already running on the device.
Referring to your statements from the OP, the "model id is incorrect" indicates that you have a faulty goldcard, because the essence of such a card is to circumvent that issue.
Changing from zip to nbh or the other way around will not help because the problem is in the foundation(the goldcard) or in the execution(the preparation). This also indicates the following:
1) You are working in the blind (flashing god knows what - NOT RECOMMENDED)
2) You are desperate
3) Lacking basic knowledge about problem at hand.
All not very wise when dealing with "exhaustion" of all possibilities(as mentioned in the title), because the problem-definition is based on merely speculations.
Enough with the "wise ass" lectures... let's do something constructive.
Start by issuing the following:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
The above will determine which version the device is running. Based on that, we can find the appropriate sappimg for you to flash.
The second thing you can do, is to take a look at the first 5-7 sticky threads. There are a lot of useful information. Also a thread handling specifically your device.
Post the result of the above command and we can take it from there..
Good luck
i type the code and it just sits their waiting for the device???
ok i reinstalled the sdk bundle and got it to work...
version-main 2.53.707.2
OK.... follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734617
It's located within the first 8 threads of the general section.
A working goldcard is a MUST.
But it should fix your problem completely :0)
cool thanks is there a way to get my cid threw fastboot? or what would be the best way like i said i have the pny and sandisc mircro cards i can go threw making. ive done it like a million times with no success. or could it just be the cards should i just get a kingston card and try it again? i have a cid from a friends phone but maybe its a bad number or something. not sure..
You can use any android device to get the cid of the sdcard.
Fastboot is not possible to use.
You must remember, that the cid you get is on valid for the sdcard you read it from. You cannot interchange cid to another sdcard.

oh the insanity

cant believe im posting this but here it goes.

Any help would be great thanks in advance
Omg. Why did you flash inappropriate radio? Only magics 32a are compatible with 6.35.xx.xx
You can try flash ruu 2.53.707.2 from my library: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6109097 (requires goldcard)
It has eng hboot and you will able to restore 32b combo next step, but chances are so small...
P.s. If you will have success with 2.53.707.2, then I will write next step. Do not do fast actions.

You can create goldcard with any HTC phone. Ask friends, neighbors. This operation is safe. You need insert your own sdcard to friend's phone, read cid, generate goldcard image and paste it onto your sdcard.

Whenyou say guide is it for making the gold card or to get out of ruu? If its a guide for the gold card I'm going to use the one posted on addictive tips. Gold card made what's the next step?
How long did it take you to get it out of ruu ?

no, gold card is easy to make when you have an android device, the guide i mean is how to kick your phone out of ruu, which may need a gold card. so before you do the guide on htcdev, make the gold card first. since i cant post address here, i will pm it to you about the guide.

heya i tried running the ruu and it not able to find my phone. im able to fastboot devices and get it listed. i tried running it before the first time and i think it picked it up. i ran the tmobile one just to see if it picks it up and it did.
im going to try another pc real quick; Ok tried the other pc same result, t mobile ruu picked it up.
Went back to 1st pc uninstalled all driver programs related to phone. cleaned out registry and temp.
Checked with USBDeview, non listed. installed drivers that are from sdk tools, android bootloader interface.
ran it again still dident pick it up but tmoible ruu again picked it up.
So its. Gonner then eh?
0. Go into fastboot mode
1. Check connection by command
Code:
fastboot devices
It should return serial number
2. Run RUU 2.53.707.2
3. Navigate to windows temporary directory and search for rom.zip
4. Check twice that is 2.53.707.2 archive (you can unpack files and view hboot via notepad, you will see something like 1.33.2010 ENG S-OFF)
5. Copy rom.zip into folder with fastboot.exe (from Android SDK Tools), close RUU
6. Run
Code:
fastboot flash zip rom.zip
Just gave it a shot it passed sig, header, info then stopped at checking model id
Remote 41 model id check fail.
I used gold card tool 0.0.5 to get cid then went to rev skils dl the image and used the same prog to create the gold card via patch mmc.
