Hello everybody,
I already asked it in the hacking and development forum, but I thought i'll get more answers here.
I have a branded, Chevron unlocked and SIM unlocked Samsung Focus which I updated to NoDo.
My at&t app center is missing - I don't see it when i'm in the marketplace.
Does this have anything to do with using a different cellular network?
Is there someone here with the same issue?
Thanks!

I have a debranded Focus updated w/NoDo and sitll have the AT&T apps on the marketplace.
Prehaps, this indicateds that it is the network is what determines the availability of AT&T apps.
Perhaps... thanks
I debranded using the RegEdit change to 000-88. Then updated to 7008 then NoDo and I still had the ATT Marketplace. I then rebranded back to ATT-US and still had it.

So for those like me who purchased a virgin mobile legend we won't get it. Not sure what to do then.
Although it is a virgin phone, all I did to it was unlock it to use with Rogers. What should I do?

i have a virgin legend too so am in the same boat...not really surprised that virgin is not coming out with the update - welcome to canada
i really want to flash the unbranded froyo rom that came out today but unfortunately it doesnt look like its possible now...
until we can change our cid's or have a resigned ROM with our cid (BM___001) we would have to root and go with cyanogen 6.1 or another custom rom (not my 1st choice)..
if anyone has a workaround please help us out...thanks in advance
Well I wouldn't mind trying a few ROM's, but I'm a complete join with this stuff. I suppose I need to learn now...

I bought a Legend from Virgin mobile in August. I became tired of their games and recently purchased a sim card from Bell and put it in the Legend. Guess what? It worked no problem. I can tell you I never unlocked my phone. The Virgin Legend did not have any Virgin mobile software or wigets in them. The only place I saw the word Virgin mobile, was in the network operators list, (mobile network settings), and in network operator name,(about phone, settings). These changed from Virgin, to Bell when I put the Bell sim in. I am now wondering if my phone is still branded to Virgin. If it is not, I would suggest to the OP that you terminate your account with Virgin on the basis that they ended your upgrade path, then take your phone over to Bell, or maybe even Rogers. that said, how do we know that rogers would care to license an OTA upgrade for a phone they never sold? At least Bell sold the phone for a few months.
I got my phone from Virgin as well and I am using the modaco stock froyo rom. It is basically stock except it's rooted. The experience will be exactly the same (unlike using other custom roms) Trying to make the new ruu work on a Virgin phone is probably not gonna be much simpler than rooting, so you may as well go the rooting route.

you realize bell=virgin right? bell discontinued the legend so you wont see an update from them either...
Not so my friend. Check out post #14
http://mobilesyrup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3928
I figured they (virgin or bell) would either do it really late or not at all. So I debranded it, but got the same error as in the other threads during the upgrade.
Then I decided to try CM 6.1, and the only thing i regret is not trying it sooner. Never going back to sense again, CM is cleaner, faster, with lots more options.

It's based on the vodafone rom that came out couple weeks ago but there is nothing about vodafone in it (no logo nor junk app). It should be identical to the one that came out today (at least from the end-user point of view anyway)
Here is the link:

You guys really need to stop emailing unknowledgable "support staff" and wait for official announcements like this one from the Virgin Mobile Canada twitter feed:
"android update! we'll be offering android 2.2 froyo update for htc legend in mid-january. stay tuned for details."
Looks like official Froyo for our Legends after all!
couldnt possibly wait until jan and dont want any bell stuff on my legend so installed the official htc unbranded froyo rom....

Yeah, I couldn't wait either and put Cyanogenmod on my Legend. My wife will be getting the Virgin update when it's available
Hey guys!
Just to be sure, is Virgin Mobile software version the same as the Bell one?
If so, that means if Virgin get the update, us with a Bell phone will get it to?
Virgin announced the Vibrant's update, and it was rolled out to Virgin, Bell and Sasktel so I assume so yes.

Forgive me if this is the wrong forum, but is it possible to use my HD2 running CMYLXGO's Stock Desire HD2 ROM on AT&T?
Does it need to be "unlocked"?
Any information or directions on how to do so are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
yes it needs to be unlocked, , doesnt matter what rom you are using, no there is no free 'hack' to unlock it, ask t mobile or buy a code online, no you won't and never will get 3G. Just GPRS and Edge only.
Hey ipugh I know you probably have seen or I hope you bave seen the thread that someone bumped back to the front today named "Unlocked HTC HD2 AT&T MediaNET/MMS Settings". This thread is all about how to get your HD2 up and running on the AT&T network. It is not about how to unlock your HD2 so you can use it with other carriers.
WMPoweruser says Rogers in Canada is pushing out the NoDo to the Focuses now (http://wmpoweruser.com/samsung-focus-getting-nodo-pushed-out-by-rogers-canada/). Is anyone here on Rogers and getting the update?
Nothing for me in Vancouver yet...
Did you try looking for the update in Zune? Looks like in the comments nobody got the message on the phone yet but Zune found it.
Would be interesting to see the firmware/radio/etc numbers after a Rogers update.
Hey Guys,
I got the Rogers Focus update on my phone today. I'm currently on Fido and since the update the roaming triangle is now showing on my phone. Prior to the update, this was not an issue.
Anybody else having the same problem? I don't want to get charged roaming fees for no reason
Thanks
What's the firmware version after update?
Not the OS version, but the firmware version.

I get the same triangle & had to allow data roaming, for data to work. I don't think we're getting charged for roaming, just that Fido uses the Rogers network so to the phone it's roaming. I remember WM5 & 6 had the triangle when SIM unlocked & using Fido.
Yep - tried through Zune, but nothing yet...
I'm on FIDO too... nothing so far. Got the pre-update a few weeks back, but No Donuts for me yet.
Yeah, I was wondering what the firmwares are too.
Yes.. Firmware version's please. I'm wondering if there is a difference between my "hacked" NoDo update and the official one.
Got the update too, but having the roaming triangle too since the update... and you have to activate the option of enabling the data even while roaming to ensure data is on...
NoDo FiDo
I have the roaming triangle too!

Yep.. different.. mine is 2124.10.10.2
I backed it out using the restore point, but the update isn't advertising in Zune. I wonder if I have to put the carrier reg entry back (can't remember what it was!! yikes!)

Hey,
Rogers users might want to plug their phones back into Zune and see if you get a firmware update after the NoDo update:http://wpcentral.com/samsung-focus-rogers-bell-getting-firmware-update. Then let us know; if you don't mind. Thanks
It was reported today that rogers will be getting separate firmware updates for the focus.
That means Att will probably follow suit. I hope these firmware changes dont take things away from us that we already have. On the other hand maybe they will help other issues.
I am thinking about de branding my ATT focus to check for these firmware updates but want someone else to be the guinea pig. LOL
HAHA, The guy above beat me to it.

HAHA. I was going to say WPCentral said they tried to get the firmwares but couldn't. I bet if you put in Rogers branding instead of ATT-US you would might get it. Anyone know what that is?
Unless ATT has proprietary firmwares on their Focuses?!?!
Hi All,
Anyone on Rogers in Canada received the Samsung update (the one that enables anti shaking by default etc)? So far it only seems to be people on ATT who are getting the notice...
None here
just change your hklm\system\platform\devicetargetinginfo\mobileoperator registry setting to ATT-US. Thats what I did & got the ATT update
Wasn't that update bundled with NoDo in canada?

I don't think so. I have NoDo, but none of the extra "Samsung upgrade" features that are being talked about...
Hey guys, so I bought a brand new S4 from walmart the other day, they guys said it was unlocked and my telus sim worked like a charm but when I put it a mobilicity sim it said that it was invalid and asked for an unlock code. Now I know that mobilicity uses AWS etc etc but from what I've heard it should work just that the network would be crappy, but for me it doesn't work at all, my phone rejects the sim. I tried the tutorial posted in this section on unlocking the AWS band but with no success. I'm trying to get this to work for my girlfriend's upcoming birthday so any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
As far as I know, Walmart does not sell an unlocked Galaxy S4 and neither does any retail store in Canada besides online shops.
Since your phone is requesting an unlock code, you have two options.
Either use the free unlock method posted here on the forums or purchase a code online.
Regarding the AWS frequency unlock for your phone, I believe one of the prerequisites is an unlocked phone in order for it too work.

Just to clarify, you are mixing terminology:
Unlocked phone - you can use "any" SIM, but you may not get 3G or 4G speed on all carriers due to frequencies - in the USA, I can unlock my AT&T phone to take a T-mo SIM, but it will not get the faster speeds of T-MO
AWS unlock - unlock the phones radio to support additional frequencies. After unlocking the phone to support a T-mo SIM, I can unlock the AWS bands to allow for faster speeds when using a T-mo SIM.
What did you pay for the phone? If it was full price (about $600) then it is possible you could have bought (or paid for) an unlocked phone. If it was a $200 phone, then it is guaranteed to be locked to a particular carrier.
