Alright this is killing me. First I tried to upgrade from the rooted gb leak to deodexed and it killed my phone, I had to spf it. I assumed it was because I wiped the phone a few times after installing it. ell, this time I decided to do it again but not wipe after the install. And what happened? Same thing as before, boot loop central.
Assuming I'm coming from the spf without a ROM installed, how the hell do I get the deodexed gb working?!
you need to sbf back to 2.3.340 then root it and use droid x bootstrapper to flash clockwork. then once you have clockwork mod then wipe data and install zip of gingerbread and should be set...let me know if you have more problems
Yeah, that's what I'm doing now. Do I go straight from 340 to GB deodexed?
Well thats f***ing great, I did what you said (flashed GB deodexed after clearing my data straight from rooting and bootstrapping the spf) and now my phone won't get passed the moto boot logo.
What now? I can't get into the bootstrap or the stock recovery
Be sure to wipe the dalvik in the advanced settings. I installed and didn't have any issues. Of course, whenever I install a new ROM I always, wipe the cache/user data, cache partition and dalvik. I switch ROMs at least weekly and have never had an issue with bootloops or stuck logos.

I have the same problem. I have tried 5 times with the same results. SBF with 340 then root, dxbootstrap, reboot clear data, clear cache, clear dalvik cache, install GB from zip, clear data, clear cache, clear dalvik cache, reboot. Stuck at moto logo.

Here's what you need to do:
SBF with 340.
z4root, install dx bootstrap and root it. go to the bootstrap bootloader, clear data and flash rooted GB.
Start up rooted GB, download Droid 2 bootstrapper and bootstrap it. Go to the D2 bootloader.
Flash GB Deodexed without clearing data. Then reboot.

I get this far and it hangs on Moto boot screen every time. I give up.
You don't wipe between rooted gb and flashing deodex gb

If you make it to this point, go to recovery wipe, then reboot DONT FLASH. that worked for me, then booted installed bootstrap and flashed deodexedgb

The Key that I think some are missing is that you need to install the RootedGB *before* the deodexedGB.
It looks like DeodexedGB only fixes /system. You need the first install to take care of all the other stuff.
Also note that thewanton mentioned Droid 2 Bootstrapper. It's been reported that DX bootstrap doesn't work with GB.

Thanks! That worked! This was "undocumented" step I was missing.

Guys, I desperately need help. I followed this guide to install CM7.1 nightly into my Defy and at the end I got the CM7 logo loop. Based on the guide, I took out the battery and put it back and now it's stuck at the small "Google" logo. I took out the battery again and went to the system recovery to wipe cache/factory reset. I got bunch of "mount" cache errors (command, log). I then went to the custom recovery and did the wipe cache again, this time beside "mount" cache error, there were some "open" cache errors. I did the wipe one more time and all of these errors gone. Booted it up again, and it still stuck at the "Google" screen so I went into the custom recovery trying to wipe dalvik cache as the guide said. I selected that option but nothing happened. No question asked to confirm the wipe and all it did was a short blink screen and the screen stayed the same.
Any helps would be highly appreciated !!!
That sounds a bit tricky to me, but first things first.
The first boot after installing CM7 can take a while (some minutes) since all the dalvik cache and other things has to be built. Taking out the battery during that is somewhat risky I think. After the first boot, the system starts pretty fast.
The best guess for you (at least that is what I would try) is:
go to recovery, clear dalvik cache and cache. If you have not installed CM7 before, i would also recommend to clear data as well (ok you lose you data but I hope that you were not doing it without a backup).
Then I would reflash cm7 and try again.
since you had the cm7 boot scree, I believe you have no kernel problem...
by the way, do you know what version your initial rom was?
I think it`s better to flash it from scratch:
1) Flash your previous rom with RSD
2) Root + cwm recovery
3) Cyan
(and if I were you - I would do wipe from stock recovery after 1st step and wipe from custom recovery after 3 step)
Yes, as Iddqd2 suggested just flash stock froyo using RSD Lite and then go all over for CM7 method of installation.
At some point in the past, I rooted my Evo with Unrevoked. I'd like to undo that (if necessary?), in order to run CM7. My current baseband version is 2.15.00.11.19. I'm on 2.2. What do I need to do in order to either 1) return to stock and update to 2.3 or 2) install CM7?
All you need to do is put cm7 on your SD go into recovery do a full wipe (factory reset/data, data, system, cache, boot, sd-ext, android_secure, dalvik cache, etc but not SD card or battery stats) go to flash zip from SD locate and select cm7 wipe cache and dalvik cache again flash gapps wipe cache and dalvik, reboot and presto! you're now on cm7 no need to unroot/reroot or go back to stock
We are legion, for we are many.
hey,
Yeah just like evil said, place it in your sd card, do your wipes and flash it. if you unroot then you wont be flashing roms at all! Just google how to flash a rom and it will give you pictures and everything, now if you want to update your device dont unroot, just find a stock sense rooted rom right here on XDA. Itl be allready updated and rooted for your flashing pleasure!
I have successfully rooted my DEFY+ (BL7, build 4.5.1-134_DFP-231) using this post
I got root and have the 2nd-init apk in my phone. I installed the stable for Cm version of bootloader, and tried to install CM7.2 nightly from 27th Jan (here). but after reboot, it went to a bootloop.
For now, I have reflashed the original sfbs in the first link and restored to stock.
Now, can anyone detail me the steps from installing the 2nd-init to geting the CM7.2 live on my phone please..
PS: I don't mind buying a beer or two for the help
Try flashing cm72-20120506-NIGHTLY-Defy+.zip by Quarx. Just root your phone again, install 2nd-init 2.0, chose LATEST and then flash the above build, without flashing kernels. Remember to wipe data/cache and dalvik cache before flashing CM7.2 and cache and dalvik after that.
Thanks Auris! I am already rooted now. So below are the steps I should take: ?
1. Install 2nd-init. Choose latest.
2. Reboot, it will go to 2nd-init menu.
3. Choose recovery--custom recovery
4. Wipe data, cache & dalvik cache
5. Install the Quarx Build you linked
6. Install Gapps
7. Wipe Cache & Dalvik cache
8. Reboot
9. In 2nd-init menu, choose 2nd-init boot
Is that all? Please let me know if I missed anything

Hi guys!
I have just rooted my Motorola Defy and installed CM7 (7.0.2) into it using the instructions provided by CM wiki. I decided to use ClockworkMod and bootmenu, since I'm on Mac OS X.
Well, everything went fine until I tried to open the Market app, which was not working. Searching the web, I found that the solution could be wiping user data and caché through the recovery mode. As I could not figure out how to start the bootmenu (which I learned later), I did it through the stock recovery mode (using power + volume down)... and since that I can't boot my phone anymore!
I have already tried wiping everything again and installing CM7, but I'm still facing this problem.
Please, anyone have any ideas? I'm almost desperate.

So after doing a factory reset from stock recovery, you say you're trying to install CM7...
Are you installing this from CWM recovery?
Did you wipe Dalvik cache?
Are you using an MB525 Defy or an MB526 Defy+, and is the CM7 zip you're flashing a Defy or a Defy+ build?
>
You've probably not wiped Dalvik it seems.
In CWM recovery, go to Advanced and under that select Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Do yhis and a normal cache wipe every time you flash a ROM update. If you flash a totally new rom like CM10, wipe data also.

Hi! Thanks for the reply, and sorry for my English.
Actually, I have already installed CM7 and it worked fine, except for the Market app. Trying to solve this, I have done a factory reset from stock recovery and, since that, CM7 is locked to the boot screen.
And yes, I have installed CM7 through CWM recovery, and I'm using a MB525 Defy.
Well, I have just tried wiping Dalvik Cache, but it seem as if nothing happens when I select this.
Ya wiping Dalvik is very fast, but it will make a lot of difference. Every time you update your ROM, wipe both cache and dalvik.
>
If this didn't solve your problem, try wiping market data and uninstalling market updates. They will reinstall on their own.
>
If even that doesn't work, reflash the GAPPS zip.
BTW, shouldn't you be on CM7.2? That's the latest CM7 as far as I know.

You can only wipe data from an app trough the Apps Manager inside CM7 (that means you have to boot up your phone).
Try flashing the newest CM7.2 and the newest GAPPS for CM7.2.
If the problem persists, return your phone to the old .sbf and start all over again.

Well, I really can't boot my phone. I just can access bootloader and both recovery modes from stock and CWM (bootmenu).
Do you know how can I flash a .sbf on OS X? I know a lot of programs for Windows, and I also have found a script (sbf_flash.sh) that should work on Mac, but it seems that a lot of people are having problems in OS X (including myself).

OK. Go to CWM recovery. Wipe data. Wipe cache. Wipe dalvik.
Now install WhiteRabbit 1.8 or Maniac's CM7.2.
Flash the GAPPS packages linked in the respective threads.
Now AGAIN wipe cache and dalvik.
You should boot normally.
>
As long as you can access CWM, there's no need to reflash the SBF.

Hi,
I have just reflashed a retailer version using RSD on a friend's computer and it is now back to life... now I'm figuring out what is the best path to follow.
Thanks for the help!
Factory resetting from stock recovery messes up custom Rom!! If You are on custom rom, you have to use CWM for doing wipe etc...
Sent from my Defy green lense using xda-developers app

Yeah... I know that. I just wanted to rollback everything and have the phone back. I'm now studying which is the best ROM for me to install again, but meanwhile, I have my phone working.
I Flashed JellyTime ROM available here. I updated the Gapps too. The whole installation went smooth. Tab started with JT logo and then went blank. I waited for like 10 minutes and nothing happened. I tried twice but same result. So I went back to ICS4.0.3 stock.
Can some tell me if there is a newer JT ROM or am i doing someting wrong? I wiped cache and dalvik before flash.
PLEASE HELP:crying:

You have the V8 unlocked bootloader installed, correct? If not, you'll need to have it installed first.
If so, and a recent CWM installed,
sequence should be;
a. Wipe data/factory reset
b. Wipe Cache
c. Wipe Dalvik
d. Format /system
e. Install JT

Great!! Thanks a lot!
Only step I had missed was format /system. I thought factory reset did just that, apparently I was wrong!
Thanks again. Loving my JB on A-501.
Just one issue, Google now voice search doesn't work.
And I noticed there is a phone app. So can I make a call??
