How can I unroot (used unrevoked previously) & re-root? - EVO 4G General

At some point in the past, I rooted my Evo with Unrevoked. I'd like to undo that (if necessary?), in order to run CM7. My current baseband version is 2.15.00.11.19. I'm on 2.2. What do I need to do in order to either 1) return to stock and update to 2.3 or 2) install CM7?

All you need to do is put cm7 on your SD go into recovery do a full wipe (factory reset/data, data, system, cache, boot, sd-ext, android_secure, dalvik cache, etc but not SD card or battery stats) go to flash zip from SD locate and select cm7 wipe cache and dalvik cache again flash gapps wipe cache and dalvik, reboot and presto! you're now on cm7 no need to unroot/reroot or go back to stock
We are legion, for we are many.

hey,
Yeah just like evil said, place it in your sd card, do your wipes and flash it. if you unroot then you wont be flashing roms at all! Just google how to flash a rom and it will give you pictures and everything, now if you want to update your device dont unroot, just find a stock sense rooted rom right here on XDA. Itl be allready updated and rooted for your flashing pleasure!

[Q] Reflashing ROM without wiping?

My basic question is can I repeatedly reflash the same ROM to my Epic without wiping data between flashes?
I flashed a ROM and then manually flashed a number of add-ons and optional installs from other ROMs. My phone is now in a state that I don't like. I thought I did a nandroid backup after the initial ROM flash, but I didn't. I'd like to just reflash the same ROM that I already have on my phone, hopefully just wiping cache + dalvik first. I'd rather not wipe data and go through all that again if I don't have to. Is this safe to do?
Yes its safe. Only reason they say to wipe is going from one rom to other rom u may get some probs.

Full wipe. How to?

Sorry for the silly question. I'm on the go and I don't have my laptop. I need to know how to do a full wipe. Either from terminal or recovery. I am using recovery version 3.0.0.2. But when I do the wipe, and flash a new rom, somehow the wifi settings along with wallpaper and some other things are saved and I don't want them to be. I want a complete wipe...
Btw. I did uncheck the box for backing up settings to Google servers and its still restoring things. Getting frustrating.

on the clockwork 3.0 just wipe data/factory reset and it should be fine. Keep in mind though that 3.0 is only for gingerbread based roms such as CM7 or cm7 nightlies and I think there is another gingerbread floating around.
If you want to revert back to STOCK, or a 2.2 rom you can use rom manager to flash the 2.5 recovery. Then wipe data/factory, dalvik, cache, to flash a new rom. To revert back to 3.0 for a gingerbread rom just fastboot flash the 3.0 recovery

Wiping via ClockworkROM doesn't do a full wipe. I've encounter what the OP is talking about. I can wipe the factory ROM then go to flash a Cyanogen ROM and my wall paper sticks and some of various settings stick. Yes a factory reset and a Cache Clean, and Dav Cache clean and it will still stick.
He is talking about 100% fresh clean phone like you bought it brand new.
that's exactly right... 100 % fresh clean cm7 is what i'm looking for... but i can't seem to get a full wipe... keeps restoring some settings

[Q] Correct wipe/flash procedure

Disclaimer: I'm used to my old Evo 4G and use a triple wipe script built into my recovery (smelkus) whenever I flash a rom. It pretty much wipes everything.
For the Nexus 7, what needs to be wiped to flash a rom? I did a factory reset, wiped data, wiped cache, wiped system, wiped dalvik-cache, and then flashed a new rom, but I wasn't sure if all that was necessary. I'm using the latest TWRP recovery.
If I'm moving from one rom based on a jelly bean version to another based on the same version, am I ok?
Can I assume upgrading to a new version of the same rom that I don't have to wipe? (I know this one is rom specific, but in general.)
Can I leave data and will that retain my apps? Otherwise, I use Titanium Backup religiously on my Evo and now on my Nexus 7.
I searched within some of the rom instructions as well as the rooting guides, but didn't see anything specific as to what to wipe. Some threads seem to say just factory reset and maybe dalvik-cache.
Instructions with what to wipe usually come in the original post of each ROM. Usually the same ROM with different version only requires a cache wipe while moving between different ROM's requires a full wipe/reset + dalvik.
Worse comes to worse you try something and it doesn't boot and you get back into recovery and fix it.

[Q] How do I FULLY wipe my device?

Might be a stupid question, but anyone know how to do this? I want to only keep PSX And neo with no other data on it (Such as games that require downloaded data, apps and etc). Wiping data on CWM doesn't wipe everything (Yes I did cache and dalvik as well), would wiping the sdcard wipe everything and leave the ROM? Hopefully someone can help, thanks
Also, if the only way of wiping brings me back to stock/unrooted, would I still have CWM installed to install custom ROMs and such still?
These are the wipes you are looking for:
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. mounts and storage > format sdcard
4. advanced > wipe dalvik cache
That should leave you with a empty/clean internal sd card, no data (apps, settings, etc.), and your current rom and kernel.
if you want to completely wipe everything and go back to stock Android, just use one of the toolkit and flash stock image. it will wipe everything in the phone.
Or just fast boot the images including the userdata file it'll erase the entire phone memory. Toolkits are convenient but you should know how to use fastboot too it saved me when my recovery wouldn't boot and there was no ROM on the phone.

[Q] how to flash roms without losing data n files?

Alright guys I feel very nooby asking this but this is my first device that doesn't have a sd slot. Is there a way to flash a Rom without deleting the download and titanium folders?
My steps prior to flashing are
Wipe data, cache, n dalvik
Flash Rom
Then wipe cache n dalvik again
But if I wipe data then the Rom zip would be deleted before I can flash it?
Please help me on this thanks!

Hi,
Make only wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache, tat's all then flash your rom and reboot.
Don't wipe anything related to sd card/ext sd card or internal storage so you keep all your files in your "sd card" intact.

This won't happen on your LG G2. Even when using CWM you can see it is looking for an external SD card in the command line when doing a Factory Reset. You're internal SD card is never touched.
When you flash a ROM just:
Factory Reset
Flash Rom
Obviously make a backup first if you're worried, and you may need to flash Gapps depending on the ROM you flash.
understood, thanks guys
