Hi,
I am thinking of buying one but I still have some questions:
1-How good is the touch screen? I am asking this because I used my friend's HTC mozart and it is having problems in touch for example you need to press 10+ times to open more details in marketplace
2-Camera quality compared to the Mozart?? or in general how good is it?
3-Battery life, I know it depends but Can you tell me how many hours does it last and with which usage?
4-Any problems you discovered??
5- Does it have blinking LED light ?? for notifications??

I had the Mozart and HD7 before swapping them both for a 16gb Omnia. My thoughts are:
1. The touch screen is excellent on the Omnia, no problems at all
2. Camera quality is better than the Mozart in day-to-day use. This is because although the Mozart's camera is supposed to be better I found that it was difficult to get good photos as there is quite a long delay between pressing the button to take a photo and waiting for the flash to go off - this then ruins your photos unless you have steady hands.
3. Battery life is excellent. I have WIFI permanently on and easily get 1.5 days usage in between charges without problems.
4. No problems on mine
5. Unfortunately there is no blinking LED light
I definitely prefer the Omnia of the three devices I tried - best screen, best battery life, best build quality, and really fast. Also, mine came unbranded and unlocked and had no problems with either of the pre-NODO and NODO updates.
So wifi is on all the time but are u getting emails pushed to device or do you make it check?? If yes, on what intervals??
Also, are you using twitter, facebook regularly??
Thank you

Hotmail emails are pushed to my phone, emails are checked hourly for 2 other email accounts.
Twitter is updated every 5 minutes, Facebook is checked manually.
May I ask u an irrelevant question : can I set everything to push on wifi??
Will this help the battery or make it worse??

Push will work for Hotmail and Gmail accounts. I couldn't find a push option for other email accounts.
The version of Facebook within the People hub doesn't have an option for refresh intervals, so I think it may be push-enabled by default. There's no push option for Twitter or Facebook (the full version), but you can decrease the refresh intervals to 3 mins.
I don't think having push enabled would make a difference to your battery life if you're using WIFI anyway.
Screen response has always been excellent for me, even when damp.
I get over a day's worth of use out of it with routine use (I use the web and check email, but don't play games every day).
There have been comments regarding the lack of dithering when viewing photos/gradients in web pages which can lead to some unsightly effects in some circumstances.
Personally, I don't mind this too much. The quality of the rest of the phone outstrips that deficit.
Got a question...
Do all WP7 updates will be coming from Microsoft and not from manufacturer?
Will Silverlight (or the likes) be included on future updates?
Does the Omnia 7 is still worth getting or just wait for manufacturer's next offering.
Thanks

WP7 updates come from Microsoft, but after being tested by the carriers.
And yest, the Omnia 7 is well worth getting in my opinion.

LOL. I have a friend who returned his Trophy when the screen became unresponsive after a few drops of rain hit it.
I also need some help in deciding what to get, i already have the samsung nexus s and the HTC 7 Mozart, but want a samsung brand windows phone 7, because of the super amoled display, i have the choice of the following
samsung ominia 7 8GB at USD 437
samsung ominia 7 16GB at USD 460
samsung focus 8GB with micro sd upgradable at USD 601
which one of the above is recommended, between the ominia 7 8GB or 16GB and focus, i know they are almost identical on spec, and the the omina 7 is more like a upper class mode.
The 16GB Omnia, no contest. Only 23 dollars more than the 8GB version and it's a damn good phone. Can't really warrant spending the extra $140 unless you need a phone with more than 16GB
Has anyone compared the omnia 7 with the nexus s, well I mean the earspeaker, I find the sound is too soft, and is hard to hear in noisey places for the nexus s, how is the omnia 7.

You can increase the volume on the Omnia 7 if needed. The instructions are in this thread:

I don't know about the Nexus S, but I can tell you that's it's excellent when comparing it with an iPhone 3G.

Please give a rating from 1 (terrible) to 10 (best device ever).
I give it and 8 just missing the keyboard from the kaiser. but would rate higher once i get use to not having a keyboard
I'll give it a 9, going up to a 10 when Coreplayer 1.3 arrives.
Can I give it an 8 and raise that once my HD arrives?

Is that a free upgrade? I just got 1.2.5.
I gave this device a 5 and am thinking of returning the device as I miss the lightened keypad - which has other implications.
My Diamond is a much better device
totally agree with core player 1.3
diamond is better?? i had it before, why the hell is this device better than the hd?
9
Because the 3G network is harder to receive than on my old Polaris.
And I'm missing a hard camera button.
In my opinion it is the best windows mobile phone at the moment, obviously people may argue that there are other phones out there that are better, whether this is true or not is not the main concern,
however it is a fact to me, that this phone, is the best windows mobile phone there is at the moment

Remarkably similar result. Good link.
I'd cast my vote only after I've used it for a month.
I gave it a 7 it does more than most phones but I can't say it is my dream device. Would have scored it higher of the media side of it were a bit more impressive.
i gave a 10, everything we miss is yet to come.
10, because it does *not* have a keyboard like the Kaiser (I don't use my Kaiser's keyboard)
the best device i've had, imo far superior then diamond omnia storm iphone tytn. I would give it 9
Wow - I also gave it an honest '7' (I do love it though)
For me (and I may very well be simply dreaming on this but hey...) I think if Android makes it onto here and becomes as useable/customisable as I expect it will (plus far faster and less 'bloated' than WM), then I'm thinking it may even get to a 9! (a 10 is virtually impossible IMO ;-)
CPU not faster than touch pro and not Storage capacity ?G
Wow, more than 97% of you are saying it is average or better, just less than 3% saying it is below average. More than 95% give it 7 or better.
Sounds like a bunch of extremely happy users.
I have not voted yet. Will do it after using it for a while.

great phone! earlier I was thinking about the low res screen and low grade cpu and thinking that perhaps better I should have gone foe optimus one or X8 but there are beefits of getting a samsung like the fantastic audio quality, and good video player
The cpu is enough for daily use , while the screen is one of the best 240 x 400 units I have seen, Just compare it with Wildfire to see what I mean
Its important to consider the price when evaluating this phone. I got mine for 25 CAD.
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
Same.. I paid $210CAD with no contract for mine - New.
For a phone running Android 2.1 with nearly all the same features as the $500-$600 phones, I couldn't pass it up.
Sure, it doesn't have the same size or resolution screen, but it's a decent size and the swype feature works regardless of how small the screen is.
Overall very impressed with this phone.

I think LG OO is for the same price and you will get better GPS (Qualcomm), much better display (similiar to i3gs), RAM 512 Mb which means 2x more (faster), and no customization.
I think for 200 euro you can buy better phone. I don't understand how can Samsung release one device for more then 200 € with so much bugs )
issues with wifi, gps and display ?? why this resolution ?? Only one advantage is the google's android but I do not use any of samsung applications or widgets.
Many cheaper phones have better screen resolution.

Yeah, the LG OO didn't come out till over a month or two after I got my Galaxy 3 (It's $50 cheaper too).. Kinda sucks, but oh well.
I've had a lot of problems with LG phones - my friend's LG Eve is a piece.. They refused to upgrade to Android 1.6 even - stuck on 1.5.. the community had to release 1.6 and 2.1/2.2 for it since LG wasn't. The screen on that phone looks wayyyy nicer than my Galaxy 3..
Having said that, I'd still prefer a phone that's getting updates - at least it shows they're somewhat trying. Plus the bugs I have either have work-arounds, or are pretty minor.

Are you sure about "fantastic audio quality"? Anyway I use earphones or external speakers, my old nokia e56 had much better audio output. I think this 240x400 is one of the worst. LG OO has much better resolution and many cheapers phones too. If they leave the resolution as on galaxy spica and it has 512 Ram, then it's superphone. But not with samy firmware. LG didn't change anything with android and I think it's much better.
I don't use their TW because it's not stable with app2sd, and without app2sd it has only about 170Mb space for your applications. Thanks to JP9 I can use app2sd + I use LauncherPro and many other applications which make this phone usable and stable.
Who did realeased JP9 ?

I agree with you, I've heard also many issues about LG, but consider about this i5800 firmware. Have you ever seen a phone where wifi, gps etc... doesn't work ? That users must root the phone and fix it ? As far as I remember, I used to have xperia, nokia, HTC - but everything was working what was in specification of the device. Why they just didn't leave the lcd resolution of gala spica ? And LG have qualcome GPS processor and 2x RAM

My 8330 curve had GPS problems. A LOT if I remember correctly..
There was a special hack that needed to be done in order to fix it.
We'll see how they fix the GPS problem.. I really don't see Google allowing Samsung to screw up the GPS on their new Nexus though..
So I am now considering this phone having previously considered 2 other phones that have very common faults, first the HTC Desire has random reboots then I decided I'd look at the Motorola Defy which I actually did buy but then the earpiece died seems this is very common too .
Is there a common fault with this phone? I'd like to know before I get to set on it.
Also:
How is the battery life? with a 4" AMOLED screen surely it can't be too good.
I understand it comes in two varieties (8GB & 16GB), which is do they sell on AmazonUK?
Because it comes in two memory options does this mean it doesn't support micro SDHC expandability? (I have a 16GB SDHC card from the Defy, would be a shame to waste)
Am I right to assume it has a-GPS as well?
What version of Android does it have currently? and what are the upgrade plans?
Thanks

Ok where should i start...?
First yes u can expand menory with a micro sdhc. The phone has built in gps. But dome people report problems with lock and accuracy. Cant tell u much about this cause mine seems to work without any problems. A much bigger minus point is that it seems a litle laggy out of the box and they get worse the longer u have it. BUT actually there are several fixes for both of the provlems here on the forum.
So if u like to play around and tweak whatever u can then id say this one is the best u can have.

Latest Android 2.2.1 no lag .
GPS for me excellent .
has A-GPS
Common as in the majority have a problem or do you mean the occasional phone has a problem .
jje
Durability of the Super AMOLED is underwhelming
see the link on my sig and judge for your self, still a great phone..
Oh yeah forgot to answer for amoled....
Well as on any phone screen is the most energy hungry thing. But the difference from amoled to others is, that black parts of a picture are "on standby" so they dont use as much power as white parts. And amoled doesnt have a back light so its really energy saving compared to others.
To be honest, battery drain IS a problem but compared to other smartphones this one is one of the best (if not THE best)

Both. See its hard to tell how common a fault is because most people only post/mention when they have a problem making it seem more common then it is so I'm really looking for what multiple people have reported.

Does it easily do at least 1 day with out a recharge, or does it struggle to do a day (with moderate usage)?
Also would it be recommended that I get a case/cover. It has Gorilla Glass right?
Has Android 2.3 been confirmed? If so when's it out.
And (finally for now anyway ) did Samsung announce anything interesting at CES?
Thanks I know its a lot of questions but I do really appreciate your help.
Personally I think you'd be better of waiting for the new Tegra 2 dual core phones. If not why not invest in a Samsung Infuse when it comes out. Now that's a phone

Yeah this is a better idea, the Galaxy S2 should be out pretty soon.. I doubt the Galaxy S1 will reach 1yr as the top tier phone.. even though samsung said something like for 13 months it will be the top.
Personally I would wait for the Samsung Galaxy S2 as that is due to arrive/be announced soon (see engadget news recently). In regards to the other questions here we go:
Bell Samsung Galaxy S 2.2.1 (phone bought Aug 4th)
1) No lag. period.
2) GPS works, locks within 10metres, and stays locked. It is very hard to get a lock within a building but I imagine this is common across most GPS devices. Inside my car I get a fast lock and accurate while on the highway for example.
3) SAMOLED burn-in or degradation? I have had no issue. I would say the case above is rare especially since most people are not reporting an issue.
4) Battery life: lasts a bit more than 24 hours with frequent texting and a few hour or so calls. Idling where I am not making a lot of calls it lasts well over a day. Overnight it loses less than 10% battery.
5) It has gorilla glass.
Nothing announced at CES however they are teasing an announcement in feb with the tagline "evolution is fate" beside a galaxy S. See engadget for more details.
I used to own one last year but sold it as it was locked and even when using the so called sim card. One day it would work and the next I would get no network...
It was not usable and sadly I had no choice to sell it...
At the time I paid around £300 for it as it was new at the time...
I was having a look on ebay the other day and saw quite a few of them for as cheap as £240, brand new sealed and unlocked.
To me this is a bargain for a 5'' phone having a beefy 1gb cpu, 512 ram and a 16gb memory card included...
I currently own the HTC Desire HD. I've had it for the last 4 months. While I'm happy with it, there are quite a few drawbacks.
The battery is ****, no matter what, it will last MAX 24 hours with minimal use.
there are times when the battery suddenly drops from 30% to under 20, then 10 and it cuts off.
Once the battery gets to 15% it will last no more than a few hours, WITHOUT any use at all.
It simply drops from 15% to zero in a matter of 2-3 hours and this is in standby.
Lastly the volume is extremely poor, when talking on the phone I can barely hear the other person and when looking at videos you cannot hear anything even at max volume...
Previously when I had my Dell Streak, battery was the best i've ever had from a large phone, once got 7 days out of it with minimum use, this was based on 12 hours standby per day and maybe a few mins use and no internet/videos...
This works out to be 3-4 days in a row, I think this is amazing considering the screen brightness was also on 70%
Some people say the Streak's battery is crap but I completely disagree...
With regards to screen/image quality I recon the Dell's screen and colour/black/gamma quality was a lot better than the HTC Desire HD.
Finally the Streaks's loudspeaker was quite loud. Call colume was loud and clear, videos/music playback was very good...
My MAIN 2 questions are:
1 - Is it worth getting a Streak and selling my HTC HD2 based on the above info?
2 - Some people say using Dell's stock 2.2 is slightly slow, sluggish and using a CUSTOM made rom is a lot smoother & faster.
Should this be the case, please could you name me the top 2-3 recommended roms to use on xda, different people have different opinions but I would like something basic, clean, reliable, smooth and close to the stock rom.
I am not bothered about the camera, video camera, main aspect of wanting the Streak is the shear large screen, excellent battery & looks/build quality.
Looking forward in hearing what other have to say.
Thanks in advance.
I got mine last week for £199 brand new sealed + unlocked from carphone warehouse on a clearance deal - sadly I think the deal is over now.
I think the battery is excellent, I'm a heavy user, the phone is always on with data and / or wifi and emails, twitter updates etc. and I could happily get 3 days out of it. I struggle to get 1 day from my Nexus S.
Most people (and they would be right) will point you to using Streakdroid 1.9 although I'm using the simple streak rom (it's in the dev section) which is seemingly a bit slower than Streakdroid but I really like it.
If you like the big screen and can live with a larger phone then I'd say it's great
You have already used streak before and looks like u r comfortable with the size.
I think u should go with streak.
There are not many roms to work with.
Currently
1. Lite rom - Stripped down version of stock and default orientation is portrait.

3.Streakdroid.
People are divided between these different roms.
U should try them and see what fits u the most.

3.Streakdroid.
People are divided between these different roms.
U should try them and see what fits u the most.

I will probably go with a lite rom. I have many apps already bought and will copy the apk's of them over from my Desire HD over to the streak.
The lite rom is best for me since I want no extra junk/apps and will use my own ones.
Which lite roms would you suggest drgopoos?
Anything with minimal apps/addons would be better since it should run faster than another rom with lot's of unwanted and unneccesary addons...
On top of this it should be better with regards to battery life...
thanks once again.

How do you want to do the deal?
What guarantee is there that I will receive the item and what guarantee you will receive yours?
I do not know of any safe/guaranteed ways of doing this.

Hi guys, I m buying a Nexus One. I just have a few queries regarding the phone.
1: The N1 is running on OS 2.3.6 but the Quadrant scores are around 1100. Is it because its not rooted? Any good custom kernels available?
2: How's the performance of the phone? I mean HD gaming, 3D, etc. I own a Galaxy S and its variant from T-Mobile (Vibrant) and do not want to get disappointed by the performance of N1.
3: Any known issues/checks that I need to do before buying the phone?
Last question: Any hardware/software bugs?
Comments much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dinesh.

I can't answering the first two question's simply because I don't really do gaming and quadrant tests on mine.
-The Power Button on the N1 is a problem or could be a problem. You will see several members on here have had this issue. I personally have had to send mine back to HTC to get the power button fixed.
- The touchscreen sucks flat out lol. This is a known issue as well. Only thing you can do is turn it on and off and the screen will be calibrated again.
- Limited room for apps on the internal memory. That is when you do some kind of apps to sd type thing.
Aside from that it really is a great phone. I enjoy mine.
While I love my N1 to death (and will have a seriously hard time parting with it when I decide to upgrade), I can't honestly recommend this phone to anyone anymore. There are sooo many other phones out there with better hardware for the same price or less. The limited internal space of the N1 is a huge downfall. Granted, that can be alleviated a bit with various app2sdext options out there, but that is a hassle. Also, as hogg2500 mentioned, the powerbutton and touchscreen issues are really problematic.
Save yourself the money and get a more modern phone. The N1 is almost 2 years old, and while it was an awesome phone for its time (and it still holds up fairly well the newer competition), for the current price and the specs of the device, I just don't think it is worth it to buy.

1. quadrant scores mean nothing. i mean.. literally.. nothing. dont worry about it..
2. the n1 runs games very smoothly.. havent had any problems as long as you dont have 424252534 apps running at once lol
3.
- the problem of low internal storage means nothing when you have a class 6 microsd with a2sd or s2e
- some people have a power button problem. ive never faced this.
- the touchscreen works. the problem is, sometimes it gets a little weird thinking youre pushing buttons youre not close to lol. on certain kernels it happens often, but on others it rarely ever happens. also, multitouch has the axis crossing problem like most phones from its time. even my buddys nexus s sort of has that problem.
theres not much more i could ask for. (a slide-out qwerty woulda been nice ) although its almost reaching 2 years of age i can still use this phone for a few years. theres nothing new that has caught my attention in both hardware features and design.. theyre just little upgrades here and there. nothing to WOW me..
btw, there are 2 versions. AMOLED and SLCD.. the amoled has very clean looking colours..blacks are BLACK you know but with slcd you get a sharper crisper picture though.
Agree with bass and grimey,
But if you are paying 250.00 or more, actually more than 199.00, I would wait for the Nexus Prime
But, as bass said there are some awesome phones out there, many have Sense which some don't like
I am waiting for the Prime and ICS
Also, depends on your needs and expectations of your next phone--there are two big issues with N1 as mentioned--Pwr Button and Touchscreen are BIG. I also think Signal Strength sucks--IMHO
Go for the desire S,better hardware for the same price, and it looks better!
One of the nicest features of the N1 is the illuminated trackball.

i really REALLY wanted this phone but it didnt support AWS (1700mhz/2100mhz) .. but atleast i get a very useful colourful trackball
I just bought a N1 today off craigslist. Glad you asked these questions so i knew what to look for when i was buying. I followed all the advice of the other posters and i didn't find any problems at the time of purchase or after. Granted i've only had it for a few hours but just heed the advice given above check for the problems noted.
My N1 is still going strong. No power button issues, never really had any touch screen issues. Internal storage is a bit small. I think it really depends on what you want it for. As a PHONE (which all these devices really are first and foremost), it is one of the best call quality phones around. I always have a great conversation. Never dropped a call, and no static either, or any issues with voice at all. The earpiece may be a bit low for some, but it's fine for me. All current day apps run silky smooth. I Haven't found one that doesn't work. I haven't rooted it, but I have used "SetInstallLocation 2", so apps that aren't meant to be on the SD I now have there, so room really isn't an issue. I love the trackball notifications. All in all it's a great phone that still holds its own today. The look, feel, and finish makes it 1st class all the way.

OMG, thank you for this. Had never heard about it (and have remained unrooted). Just gave myself a pile of extra space. Phone seems speedier now, too.

None. The stock notifications work well enough for me. White=Call, Blue=Text, Green=Message. I may have them mixed up, but they flash different for each instance.

It used to be all white until I think FroYo. They definitely change colors now on stock Gingerbread.
