I had the HTC HD2 with Tmobile and would wifi tether all the time. Heck, I was using it to wifi tether just last week.
Now I just got the Mytouch 4G and it doesnt work. I called Tmobile and they said I have to pay $15 a month. WTF? I am new to this phone so I wanted to know if anyone has a work around for this. I DO NOT want to flash a custom rom. I rooted and I'm happy, just need to wifi tether.
Thanks
They did this months ago. Just takes while to get busted. Mine still works. Theres a sticky some where here for a work around. Would give you a link but I'm using my phone to post.

Root and use the tether app at Google labs

Thought they blocked by detecting something in the data being sent/received? If what you posted works thats cool was just wondering because I'll be using it once I'm blocked

Have a work around. Wifi thether for root users. Its an app that works great and have been using it for over an hour now.

Have you ever been blocked? I know when I had my cliq xt using this app I was fine for about a month and they started redirecting me to the sign up data tethering page. There is something in settings you can change to avoid that page. The steps were here on xda but can find it now.
Let us know how it goes.

I've been using it for the past five hours with no problems
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Did some reading. Guess there going off of usage. Like when I was using it with my cliq(thinking it was still free) I was a heavy user for a month got a text from tmobile saying it could be blocked with the right plan. 2 days later is when I got redirected to the sign up page.
So think as long as we don't over use it we can get away with not having to get the 15 add on.

Its been know that once you get over 5gb you get throttled and possibly forced to pay the 15 bucks I think

Barnacle wifi tether in the market if you are rooted. Works great. Use it every day.

I found a fix if that helps

I have a rooted mt4g and wifi tether was not working. Instead of istalling the new beta versions, install the old version for htc's only and it should work.

Dude, no way. As per your status, it looks like you have a hero. Root your hero using SuperOneClick (google it), and install wireless tether. Gives you a wifi hotspot, its the best thing EVER. no tether either. AND no $$. Beastly.

What kernel are you running and which model PS3? Newer line or older?
Mine doesn't read Wireless Tether yet, but the dev's are close to having Compat-Wireless done I think, and that will solve the problem.

Is simple mobile data better than t-mobile? Is it really unlimited and stays at 4g with no cap?

There is defiantly a 1 Gb cap and I went through the Mytouch 3G, Mytouch slide and Mytouch4G while with them and always had problems with mms messages it's like if the picture size was to big it was a problem receiving pictures.
Never heard of simple mobile is it like tmobile ?
I had a mytouch4g. I loved the phone but hated the service from T-Mobile. I would get no bars of 3g in my home. I couldn't browse the web or download apps without getting on my wifi. Calls were dropped all the time. It would also take hours to send and receive pictures. I got fed up and got a phone with Verizon and I'm loving the reception.

It's a MVNO using T-Mobile's network.
I been with simple mobile for about 6months now and there is no data cap regardless of what some people believe.
But if you use up too much bandwidth with apps like Netflix they will throttle you back to 2g .
I'm always streaming music or on the net or on YouTube and I haven had any issue with that.just don't use Netflix or any app similar or any bittorrent or tethering and you will be fine.

There speeds are the same as T-mobile but 1 thing I totally forgot if you use data to fast they will throttle you instantly 1 month I was on a flashing spree and instead of restoring my apps on wifi I was doing it on the network. They throttled me with a little over 1Gb of use they figured I was using my phone as a Hot spot and would not unthrottle me after I called to complain and tell them I was leaving.
I am new here to Aria and ATT. I was wondering if ATT can detect tethering on all Cusom Roms?
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
Yes... It's where the data terminates is how they can detect it. That and packet inspection.
I guess no one has figured out a way to stop detection like the devs on the cdma carriers.
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
ClockworkMod's new Tethering app is supposed to be undetectable -- although the app itself is not free (you can use it for a few weeks as a trial though) and it only supports USB tethering. Still might be worth a look: https://plus.google.com/103583939320326217147/posts/1Yy1jb9z4TA
You won't find it on the Market though because AT&T has blocked it. You'd have to sideload it.
Thanks. Pda supposedly has a stealth mode. I wonder how good that is compared to clockwork?

I'm using the regular epc.tmobile.com access point at the moment but I flipflop between it and the old voice stream apns. I've tethered to: two Laptops, a PS3, and my fiancée's One S. (She's still on the 2GB plan)
I'm doing this on the latest Euroskank Jellybro for the One S, and I'm using the regular built in WiFi tethering feature.
If all else fails change your useragent to Opera or Android, and that should stop the redirections. T-Mobile can only monitor the fluctuations of data used and your userstring to determine if you're tethering.

Got it to work on using fox fi and pdanet tablet on the nexus 7. only works on bluetooth dun not wifi hotspot for some reason. shame though because when attempting to download from the play store or attempting to stream netflix it gives an erros "waiting for connection"
