T-mobile data throttling - G2 and Desire Z General

ok,
so I got the nasty txt message last month and I was throttled because I went over the 5GB Data. I then was capped at exactly 58 kbits/s, when switching to edge i got about triple that.
my new billing cycle started on the 21st, so my cap shouldve been removed....BUT IT WASNT....i have been on the phone with tmobile every day, its been from "we need to exchange your phone" to them switching my simcard today and i am still throttled.
I just got off the phone with technical support that confirmed that I am not the only one experiencing this issue. Apparently a lot or people or everybody that was recently throttled is having the issue of still being throttled...now they say they are aware of this issue but do not have any eta on when and if it is going to be solved.
they also confirmed that data is being throttled on tmobiles side, not on the phone itself! so forget looking for a way to get around, there is none!
I hope this helps a few of you out there to watch their data!!! DO NOT GET OVER 5GB!!! I THINK I AM GOING TO SWITCH!!!

I know...I think most of us do. Its the 5gb limit....and yes it was a major pain in the ass to get my speed back up once throttled. Its not your phone, sim card, ect....its on their end...that is where you are throttled. I just moved from their joke for customer service up to Tech and it ended up getting fixed in a few days.
G/L w/ it.

idk....all I know is I spoke with tech who got the msg to network engineers. They asked if I was tethering which I said no to b/c the cs had noted that I was so I think they kept me throttled over it...one that got cleared up it ended up just speeding up the next day. I called and said issue was resolved since I had a case # for it.
If you have not gotten to a case number you need to escalate the issue. Get past the uneducated customer service people to the people who can actually get things working and you will probably get better results.

i had an escalation to the engineering department last week, with number an everything, told me it takes up to 3 days...nothing happened!! told me my data was fine! i was even at the store today and they told me i have to call tech support. we should all put it out there and let it be known that the jd power award for customer service, needs to not be given again!!!

I am willing to bet it has to do with the AT&T buying out T-Mobile thing considering if you look at AT&T's practices they Throttle Bandwidth like crazy.

Probably not the best thread for this but either way I would Call them again. request a supervisor or manager. You can also twitter tmobile and complain there. I've gotten allot of issues resolved that way. Good luck

Tweeting T-Mobile gets good results. I had a really bad call with one of their reps that was eating on the phone and just had a crappy attitude. I tweeted them with "how much does it cost to cancel my contract" and they direct messaged me within half an hour requesting I email them what happened. After they got my email, I had a rep from the main office (not customer service) call me back and straighten things out very quickly. T-Mobile is still a customer service oriented company, but they've grown in recent years and so has the number of CS reps on the phone and chat. The AT&T buyout doesn't have anything to do with it, because that deal is far from complete. It could take over a year to get done. The government broke up AT&T just a couple of decades ago, so any time they acquire a new company, it's going to get heavily scrutinized. They are going to have to get FCC and Dept. of Justice approval.

and it's already been proclaimed it won't be a "rubber stamp"... I really hope it flops, and I hope that the only reason t-mobile allowed for the offer to be officially made was because they knew it wouldn't be allowed and that they would make off with 3+BILLION of ATT's money/assets in one form or another... I can only hope that T-Mobile's upper management was truly that brilliant...

If you log into your online T-Mobile account, does it state anywhere in your current setup that you have a limited data plan? Mine says unlimited web, as it was a grandfathered package from my MyTouch3G days. Hopefully I don't get capped.

Even grandfathered plans have a 5gb data cap. Same thing here. "unlimited" has never been.

Take this with as many/few grains of salt as you will, although I really hope it's true.
Pics not showing but if its from an online chat disregard anything your friend was told. Customer service has no insight into upcoming services. Our store and regional rep last said we're looking at a 2012 release. Hes been dead on about everything hes told me to date and seeing how the test area in chesterfield has been terminated im inclined to believe hes probably right. If tmobile helps bail out clearwire then maybe itll come faster but Detroits very far down the list of major cities getting 4g.

We've been lacking here in Indianapolis also but over the past month and half Ive spoken to sprint, IT and several people have spoken with the in store resp and Ive even talked with an out of state technician and they all have said that we are getting it by the end of 2010. They've said that they are planning on all their major markets to have it running by Jan 2011. Sprint is majority owner in Clearwire but rumor has it T-mobile is going to help start backing them also. Clearwire seems to have a plan worked out for their short comings that was reported a couple months ago but its unclear how they got it worked out just yet from what Ive seen. My guess is Sprint dumped more money in with Verizon flipping the switch on LTE a couple days ago.
Ah, I'll try reuploading when I get home. Apparently the XDA app doesn't like PNG's.
But yes, it was via CS chat, which is why I'm hopeful but skeptical. Basically, it said he "successfully looked into the Detroit area and sees that there are approximately 6 future towers planned for the Detroit area and that it can be expected to be up and running early next year."
It is a bit hard to believe, seeing that this year is almost over and because we haven't seen any other evidence at all, but it would be great if true.
If T-Mo does end up using Clear's WiMax, I've heard it's likely that you'll be able to roam on them with Sprint at the very least, so that's a start.
As far as the LTE thing goes, I heard that Sprint was planning on using it but was still going to carry out their full WiMax roadmap, so we'll see.

I called sprint level 2 tech support about another issue and was told Nationwide Coverage of 4g by March 2011. Thats so redonkulus to me - hell i dont even believe that for a Detroit Roll out
If Verizon gets 4g in Detroit before Sprint then I'm switching to Evil Red.
So the tech said nationwide 4g by march 2011, that sounds like sprint might need some magic to make that happen, oh wait they got david blaine, feb 7 could be interesting, and fit the march timeline

Not to be an ass but this is why you dont trust any Sprint rep you talk to. 4G is still not available in Indi or even released anywhere else for that matter.
The last released market was L.A 2 months ago and should cause concern to anyone expecting 4G anytime soon. Ive said it before and I stand by my comments that 4G will NOT hit Detroit before 2012. I'll be curious to see what the actual Feb. 7th announcement is but I can almost guarantee its not about Nationwide 4G.
My friend's co-worker's sister's dog told me that you shouldn't trust hear-say nor anything a customer service rep says about the future.
I would trust that dog.
I think I know that dog too...he keeps getting into my garbage and humping the neighbors birdbath.
Don't trust that dog, Detroit is getting Clearwire 4g in the next six months*.
*I have no knowledge as to if or when we will get WiMax 4g, so I am basing my data on instinct alone. Dan Hesse did a keynote speech to the Detroit Economic Club a few weeks ago, I would think that is a good sign? I believe that Clearwire may STILL be holding out for government money (grant, stimulus) to bring 4g to the poor neighborhoods.

[Q] how do i get off my contract.

my phone is barely working and i got hosed by my 3rd party insurance. I would like to get out of contact. Sell my used evo and get a new one. any ideas. i have heard of changing your prl and roaming on other towers to get them to bumb you. any other ideas?
fix the phone!
whats wrong with it?
That will take forever. If you live or work somewhere where you get crappy service, that's how I got out of VZW (easier with Sprint since they have crappier coverage most places). Or just sell Evo to help pay ETF.
How far are you into your contract? Your ETF goes down every month, so maybe it won't be too bad. You may also be able to ***** enough about the premiere policy changes that they let you out.
Also, what's wrong with your phone, maybe we can help you fix it so you don't need to cancel.

Fix it - it's not Sprints fault your third party insurance screwed you over and now you want to screw over Sprint. Man up and pay your ETF or sell your broken phone to help pay the ETF.

my screen is cracked but thats the least since its barely cracked like a square inch at the corner. But before that two sections of the phone middle top and middle bottom dont work. to explain better around 50 % or my screen is unusable. and my notification bar doesnt work but i can pull it down in my menu screen. tried to get the screen fixed was told that the glass is one thing and that the screen now working is another thing having to do with the underbelly of the screen. would run me around 150 to fix

First, thank you for your service, and I'm glad you made it home safely.
Back to OP and this escape-from-contract thing, is Sprint's service REALLY that bad?? I'm a new convert and all, but I'll tell you, coming from AT&T, I have to say, Sprint's coverage and call quality are better than Big Blue's and I'm getting good (not always great) 4G speed in and around NYC, as well as Miami (but not so much in Baltimore), areas I frequent a lot.
As for your device woes, your ETF starts at $200 right? But fixing your phone will be an estimated $150. Fix your phone. Stay with Sprint a bit longer, reduce your ETF, then sell your repaired Evo on eBay. Profit.

You signed on the dotted line. Time to learn a thing or two about responsability and legal obligations. You can:
Put your big boy undies on and ride out the rest of your contract term
Go get another phone, and keep paying for this one until the contract is up
Pay the early termination fee
I love this "the world owes me something" mentality that everyone has now days.
thanks.

Premier Gold/Silver status is on your account now

Well, either I am trippin and have been with Sprint 10 years, or there is a mistake on my acct? I swear I have only been with them since 2004, well Nextel actually, then Sprint. My current plan is the $129 Family Plan with 5 lines, so I should not be eligible to Gold status.
But someone posted on SprintUsers about the log on window now showing your Premier status. When I sign in, sure enough it says "Welcome, Sprint Premier Gold Customer". My upgrade, which I assumed I would lose, is due 10/01/2011, as I upgraded to my EVO in Oct 2010. Everything is still showing as eligible. So perhaps you should check your account and see what your level is.

I was told it shouldn't matter and they were supposed to add my Nextel years along with my Sprint tenure.
You were supposed to request a tenure override. The rep can look up your old account with CRF tool and see your old Legacy account from the P2K system.
***Tenure Override Request. Refer them to KMS document "Verify Sprint Premier Program Eligibility and Help Customer Redeem Offer". ***

I switched way back before suncom got bought out.
edit: been too long ago for me to remember well lol, I actually had suncom when they started but switched to Sprint shortly after. For some reason I thought they got bought out by Cingular and then AT&T back in '00.

My account has been kind of fubared from the beginning. For some reason they had an address in Arizona attached to my account that could only be seen internally, they told me a long long time ago it was nothing so I forgot about it until they tried to send my replacement phone there last year. Then once I signed the contract for my Evo they started charging me their state and county taxes even though I've never lived anywhere near there lol
I guess I'm lucky that I'm on the opposite boat.. I got the letter stating that I was in the Silver program and when I logged in I see it says welcome Gold Premier Member.. explains why my phone eligibility never changed. I knew I was near the 10 year area though. Hope other people are as lucky as me.
For those of you who have been a 10+ year subscriber with sprint/nextel/sprint, when you moved to either or they created you a new account. I was able to go back and show my account numbers from where I left sprint for nextel and back to sprint. It took a week or so but I was upgraded to gold due to me being a 10+ year customer. I can give the number I called to do this if you PM me, I dont want to put it on blast for some idiot to get and make dumb arse calls to. It is not a retentions # but a Executive & Regulatory Services #. If this will help you get gold back shoot me a PM
i have been with sprint for 12 years but i have 4 lines so i normally have 2 or 3 upgrades chilling im bummed i was dropped to silver but ill still get a new phone when they are released
Holy shiet I thought I was going to be silver, but I'm GOLD EVO 3D here I come
I'm golden woohoo
This whole Gold/Silver thing is screwing with my head too.
I signed up for Sprint February of 2010. One Samsung Moment (I stick with it for a year, my god was it horrible.), and a LG Lotus Elite II.
We got the Gold benefits before Sprint changed the requirements, but we're also on a corporate account. I upgraded from my Moment to the Evo on March 7th using Wirefly.
I then check to see if I have to wait two years for an upgrade, but nope, I'm due for another one next March on the 1st. So I'm guessing I'm retaining my benefits and wasn't affected by the change, even though other people have. It's so confusing.

Just goes to show how misinformed people are; that document has nothing to do with customers switching from Nextel to Sprint, it simply shows how to redeem anniversary rewards and how to check their tenure, specifically SprintĀ® Wireless tenure. Customers that were with Nextel and switched with the merger don't qualify, exceptions are made but systematically they don't qualify.

If you were sprint then went to Nextel after merger than back to sprint with no break in service you can be granted gold as I was. It was not automatic I had to fight for it. Of course I had all three of my account numbers for the past 11 years do it was hard to deny me.

After the merger they were both on the same system and switching between Sprint and Nextel made no difference, just like switching now doesn't affect anything.

Supposed Silver Premier Override

This could be good news for some peeps wanting to get the 3D or Nexus when they drop. I was over on Sprintusers and saw this info. Basically, they are saying there is an override process, to help people that lost their upgrades with the Premier changes. Now before anyone asks....this is only set up for people that already had a $150 upgrade showing on their account, prior to APRIL 1, 2011. I heard quite a few peeps posting they had upgrades sitting there since Oct/Nov 2010 etc and lost them, aka had them reset by Sprint.
So if you had this happen to you, you may wanna call in and ask about the Sprint Premier Tier Silver Override Process. Supposedly, they will research the issue and re-set your upgrade accordingly. This falls in line to some of the information DirtyShroomz was posting a while back, about upgrade resets being possible. Now if your $150 upgrade was due after APRIL 1, 2011 this technically doesn't apply to you. However, it certainly can't hurt to try. You might get lucky.

New Sprint Premier Silver Tier Override Process
By: Juan April 13th, 2011
No Comments
A trusted source of SU, who happens to be close to the situation of the Premier Program has advised us that there is a change in the Premier Program once again.
There appears to be a a plan in effect for people that lost their Gold membership. This occurred due to the changes in the Premier Program that went into went into effect April 1, 2011.
It appears there will be some flexibility for members that were Gold before the changes.
CS reps will be able to submit a tier override for customers that were upgrade-eligible in April, but lost the benefit when they became Premier Silver due to the changes in the program.
Premier Silver customers may ask for an upgrade if they were eligible in April under the previous rules.
The customer and CS will have the following options available to them:
If the customer wants to upgrade now: CS will transfer the call to Telesales to process a tier override and upgrade the customer.
If the customer is not ready to upgrade: CS can submit a tier override using the new options available to CS.
Somewhat correct. Tier overrides are only done in retentions, CS and telesales can not perform these nor submit anything to have it done, just trying to save some, some time.
Only people that had it qualify for it, anyone that was set to receive it at a later date will not get it as they never really had it.
Edit: Only a certain set of people can perform these resets, some are in other departments besides retentions, but mainly it's retentions that does the resets. NSS usually works with third parties on these.

Thanks for the clarification sir. Sounds good for the peeps who lost it though, for sure.
Just an FYI, I work at RadioShack and we are able to call in these upgrades to our Sprint sales support and get them reset (only if you already had the upgrade as of April 1st of course).

Great to hear.... thanks so much guys!
I lost my 11/1/2010 upgrade with this whole premier change. Ill be calling later today and will post results.
Thanks again
You can also get help is you are a 10 year subscriber who is not gold do to switching to nextel/sprint. I started with sprint 11 years ago, when they merged with nextel I switched for about 3 years. I then went back to sprint, no breaks in service during this time. Well I was set to be silver, I contacted Executive Services with my 3 account numbers and they did some research and upgraded my account to gold, were it should be Took close to 3 weeks, but the guy handling my case was extremely helpful with the whole situation. I do not think they can do anything for you if you were with nextel before the merger though
Sounds like it may work for me then. In March my account showed a full upgrade available... I checked in April and it was reduced to 75$.
I'm not to sure about calling in tho.. and I say this in NO offense to anyone, but, most reps don't seem like they know what they're doing.
My upgrade was due for april 1st, I had a full upgrade that day and the next I was silver. Apparently I sent enough emails that they gave me an upgrade override yesterday

I wish they would've left everyone that signed a contract before April 1, get one last yearly upgrade like Verizon did before they changed over their policy.

I did have an upgrade available before April 1 on my primary line.
I called and spoke to Customer Retentions and they submitted by account for an upgrade and even said she would call me back as soon as a decision was reached.
Very satisfied with Sprint CS. I do hope my upgrade will be re-assigned.
Got my upgrade back today after calling sprint today *****ing about bad service. Looks like i can get the nexus now!
Tried to get the override via chat... No go..
I will call in on my lunch break and see if they will give me my upgrade back

Yea I tried the same. The chat person was useless all he did was quote the silver upgrade policy.
Talking to someone got quick resolution.

Called in - she was very nice and understanding - She xferd me to Account Services (Retentions)
They Said they are going to submit the request for my eligibility to be correct and should be done within 24/48 hours but may be sooner.
I must be a bigger jerk than I thought.
I had 7 or 8 phone conversations and a week-long email exchange with Account Services, they told me they would be delighted if I moved my three lines to another carrier..

well if your company would fix the towers that have been down for months i would stop complaining. anyways at least they gave me my upgrade back for the inconvenience.

Sprint store oakridge mall experience. Sprint (just like CBS) cares.

Just have to share. My screen broke. Common enough. Have seen many post about sprint replacing the screen in store for some cash. Went to my local sprint store. That would be the blossom hill rd at oakride mall store in San Jose California, waited for the sole service lady to talk to customer about the features of her phone.... then showed her my phone. Of course I did not even get a,chance to say "hello" before she told me its "physical damage and sprint will not not cover physical damage."
I continue to explain that I would like to locate this, post so that she would be able to discredit it directly or at least give me some leverage for some possible angles later.
As I'm looking she repeats she can't do it and I said ok I just want to show her the, post but she wouldn't so I asked to speak to her manager. Her tone was rude and she was not letting me speak at all. She said she was the boss of her department there and I said I wish to escellate this to the store manager. She .... without looking ... said he was busy .... so I started to walk to the other group of all employees (no customer's at this point) and said as I walked away.. and ill quote this "ill just go wait cuz yer acting like a ***** " .... omg she yells at me and had me thrown out of the store.
Additionally I have been in that situation as a manager of a service center. Wrong tactic is to further alienate an already waivering customer. I was not irate I was not yelling. I was calm and only when this Guy got 2 inches from my face did I call the police myself
I don't know much about your big city ways but it seems to me that if u r sprint .. u might be usedto upset customers and maybe wouldn't call the police because your corporate feelings get hurt.
To sprint directly (hah) they surely don't mind *+%$ing us on our bills u think we would get a little something back. For anyone interested in names pm. There was more that these sprint representitives did to credit tis post as well.
Anyone know where I can get this screen replaced in San Jose?

Please note I walked accross the street to the att store and they not only were nice but also referred my to a repair place. Little pricey at 60 but the fact that I walked in with a sprint phone and got service is saying something.

Wow that's ridiculous, I personally like Sprint's service and plans but if their customer service is this sh*tty then it kinda overshadows that fact. I keep seeing posts like this and make me wonder, cause whenever I've gone to a Sprint store or spoken to a representative they've actually been pretty cooperative and nice, maybe I'm just lucky?
First when dealing with a rude manager or worker calling someone a name gets you no where. What you do is you walk out call the corporate phone number and tell them the store was rude and give them the persons name. Second if you don't know where to go for a hardware problem of any kind call customer service they will tell you where a Sprint store is that can do repairs for you. Sorry to those that have a problem at certain stores but it doesn't justify you to be rude back to them. All that will ever get you is escorted out or banned despite who was rude first.

Yeah that really helped the situation. The majority of that post made my head hurt and locate what post? If you have been a "manager" in that situation then you should have known you would be asked to leave after making such a remark regardless of her attitude. How the hell did ATT replace the screen?!?!?!

From what I read the first time, he went to the AT&T store where they told him about a place that will repair it.
It seems that no California store will help their customers. The customer service here is non existent. Like I've said before, I envy all these success stories of getting repairs done.

Personally from California myself and that is very true, little or no customer service out there...Now I reside in Battle Creek, MI and most customer service at any store is almost top notch and to add, there is a Sprint repair store right next to my work where multiple fixes and repairs have been done to my EVO and in this last instance I had cracked the entire screen (just being clumsy) dropped the phone off at 3pm , double checked if they had the part in stock the Rep said "yes, and this shouldn't take longer than an hour." 45 minutes later I walk in, she greeted me, remembered who I was and handed me , my EVO with a brand new screen and power/volume buttons...she had also added, "oh hey, I also fixed your ear speaker, how did you hear anything through that?!?" Best part of the entire trip I was not charged a penny for the services done to fix my phone to brand new condition.

Thats terrible! I live in san diego, I wouldnt say every sprint store rep is like that. I just add a iphone 4s for my wife the rep gaved me 23% on my montly bill and waive my activation. Not only that i only paid 163.36 cent for the white 16g iphone 4s. I trade in for my samsung for 85$. Sorry to brag but that rep who is on her period should get fired for that.
