Ok, Ive played and looked for a way to do this and i cant seem to get it? Does anyone else have more then one email in the email app, and if so how do you switch between email boxes? The only time i can look at a different box is when i get an email and the phone alerts me i have an email there?!
Press the menu button when you're in the e-mail application.. it should give you some options.
Nope, just select all, Folders, Compose, Refresh, Email Settings.....I checked all not in there

What's under folders? I'd expect your inbox to be there..
go to messaging instead and select the inbox you want.
while i'm new to android, i believe that the email app goes to your default account.

OMG thank you. I was getting so frustrated trying to figure out how to see all my email folders.
Yea...I did the same thing and couldnt figure it out for a little bit. Really pissed me off, but now I just have "Messaging" as an icon and i can select which email from there.
How do you delete messages out of the trash folder in the gmail app?
All I see are commands for making it read/unread, or refiling it into another folder... but I can't find anyway to delete them out of the trash.
Also the one's that get moved to the trash (by me) on my Xoom won't show up in my trash folder in my iphone.. which is odd to me, so i can't even use my iphone to delete these messages if i put them in the trash folder on my Xoom...
I hate having 920348432534 messages in my trash.
Any help will be appreciated.

Does anyone know?
lol... is it a missing feature? I was hoping I was just being slightly naive and missing a button somewhere.

It can be done.
Select message(s) (Long press)
Select icon that shows angled envelope over a horizontal bar.

That doesn't delete it, it archives it... if i do that then go to "All Mail" it's still there.

Actually it's just sticking back in my inbox and popping up a new message notification.
Probably not there on purpose as it goes against the Gmail way of doing things. They don't want you to delete anything.

Well this would be a mistake. Cause it would make me have to go on a computer everytime i want to clear my trash... Which for me is quite frequently...
I don't know about anyone else, but when i want something deleted i don't want it to go to another folder and infinitely sit there... what's the point of deleting then?
doesn't gmail periodically empty the trash folder?
They might... and if that's what i have to rely on, i guess that will have to do.
I was just wanting to find out if i was missing something, or if the feature is actually missing. And it looks like it's missing.
which is a little irritating, but whatever.
The desktop version of Gmail deletes Trash messagse when they're 30 days old. That naturally deletes them from your Xoom's Gmail app, as well.
If there's a way to empty the trash any earlier from the Gmail app, I haven't found it.
This made me look at my gmail folder . I found that on in my evo/xoom/gmail.com all 3 trash folders were the same (all emails found in all 3 places). Every email i deleted from either of the 3 was automatically deleted from the other two. The only way to permanently delete them is from the website (on your computer or xoom). Or just wait 30 days...haha.
Hey Guys....
When i send a email from my gmail account (on a PC) if that email address is not in my gmail contacts it gets created as a contact on my phone !!
I'm not sure if this motoblur doing this or is it gmail. a contact isn't created in my gmail contacts just in the contacts of my atrix. when i click on the new contact it says it's a linked contact from google.
anyone else experience this....is there a setting i'm missing ??
go to contacts, hit the menu button, select more, settings, then click phone numbers only.

that option doesn't exist....when i go to contacts -> menu -> more -> settings all it has are two sections "new contacts" and "sim card contacts" with checkboxes to enable them or not. I don't see "phone numbers only".

This!!!
Also, I heard Google is going to end that annoying thing where contacts are automatically added. I hate flashing a new ROM or reloading my Contacts list to see a bunch of stupid email addresses everywhere. I'm a neat freak.

Bell Atrix? I'm on the AT&T one.
i assure you it is there for me. Try stumbling though all the contact settings.
Its not there for bell users. something i discovered as I have 200+contacts that are in there that aren't in my contacts.
Gmail (via your pc) now has the option to stop from saving email addresses to your contacts. Along with that you can delete those other contacts from there (if you don't need them) I ended up saving the ones I knew I'd use for sure and deleting the rest.
This is one of those little things that I noticed right away and really bugs me - why would Bell/motorola take this feature out? It's so useful.

good...i'm glad it wasn't just me (yes i'm on a bell atrix). Thanx for your help guys
funny thing was i came from a nexus one and they have the option to do "phone numbers only" too.
I love the atrix for a number of things, but sometimes i miss the simple bare bones of the nexus one interface....or as some call it "the pure google experience"
same here with the N1 and that was turned on by default. also the ability to show contacts by groups was nice to have. not sure why manufacturers take stuff away from the "pure experience" and not just focus on adding stuff to it.
Can anyone modify S Planner so it defaults to a users' google mail account rather than 'My Calendar' when entering a new event - or just get rid of My Calendar completely?

It always defaults to My Calendar but you can just click on the Google Calendar account you want to save it to when you enter the details and have it sync to that google calendar automatically. It might have been a good idea for Samsung to have made the calendar choice "sticky" from the last time it was used but, for whatever reason, they didn't.
Yes that is what I was hoping someone could modify - it is just so annoying having to select the google calendar every time you make an entry. Since I do lots of entries it makes this programme unusable for me.
For me it always default to my Google calendar. But if you dont use My calendar - why just not untick in settings - calendars? After that I suppose your Google calendar would be default
There are two or rather three very annoying problems about the S-Plannar. First - "My calendar" is default no matter what, second - when you tap "event details" the "all day" box is ticked by default and third - when you untick this box, the date when the event ends changes to the next day, so you have to edit it every single time. This really makes me furious, dunno what kind of a retard had these "helpful" ideas, it really ruins the experience if you use it a lot.
Luckily, there is a way around it. What I did was I unticked all the calendars except my google calendar and second - when creating a new event I don't tap the day of the month on calendar, I tap an empty space below the calendar (where it says "No event (tap to create)". Unfortunately it works only for te first appointment of the day, but it's usually enough or me.
Ultimately, I'd be very grateful if somebody skilled could modify these things.
Thanks for that idea but it defaults to My Calendar no matter what

Strange, but hey it is a Samsung
meh , this is very very annoying ! dunno what samsung were thinking when they added those stupid "touches" to that app !!!
its frustrating , u can never use the device as your daily organizer without bugging u out or driving u furious for those tiny little details that samsung left out !!!
is there a way to contact samsung about it and hope they can change it with ICS or any other update ? or we have to rely on xda developers ?
Mine syncs fine. see my message in other thread on this topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370006
Syncing is not the problem here tho!
mine one can select either my calendar or gmail.. now Im able to sync event with google calendar
I'm using the gmail app right now, but I'm trying to switch over to the stock app to take advantage of the aod email notifications (for the time being anyway....). I'm not sure if i'm missing something or I'm the biggest noob around or what, but I can't seem to archive new gmail messages from the inbox or the stock email app. My options are swipe right: Move,Set Reminder,Unread,Reply ... swipe left: Delete. I noticed if I move messages, I have to select a folder to put them in. This marks then as read, however, I would like to simply archive my messages and have them appear in 'All Messages' without having a label attached to them. Is this possible and I'm totally missing something? Or is this just gonna happen? I realize this is more of a standard email client, but given the amount of gmail accounts out there, this is something I would expect would be available for a google email account. I will stick to the Gmail app for now, but would be nice to know, even just to get the oad notifications, thanks.
ps - I searched the forums first, but if I missed the answer already, sorry.
tldr: Archive in Samsung mail client ... where is it?
Don't think you are going to get it with the stock app. However, when Nougat rolls out for the S7 I am hoping the AOD will also update to show all notifications.

Albeit a little late to reply to you, but I ran into the same issue.
The answer basically is that in Gmail terms, archiving a message means removing all tags from it.
You can do this on the Samsung mail app by "moving" it to "all messages" folder...it sucks, I know
Well, I'm not 100% to your liking, but I did not use either both gmail or samsung mail. I switched to bluemail. If you want, you should try

Jut be aware of the possible security issues using BlueMail

It's the same as on iPhones I think, where a gmail account on their default email client app will go straight to delete.
Moreover, as Yahoo app does the same (I think), the outlier might actually be Gmail which doesn't let you delete, but only archive emails.
