Friend just updated to froyo update by sprint over the weekend - Epic 4G General

so what is the easiest and quickest one click root we can use?

Depends on what you want to do after you root.

I used superoneclick 10 minutes ago and it worked fine.

Just non-market apps, apps that require root. Maybe try a custom rom.

Thanks will try this, will this allow you to install rom manager and be able to boot into clockwork recovery mode for nandroid backups, etc?

I would use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
If you try a custom rom that calls for ext4 then, and only then go to this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612
both are perfect full root one click solutions with CWM, SU, and busy body installed by default

How do you root the MyTouch 4g?

Can we use SuperOneClick Root to root this device? Any ideas?

No, that's for the Galaxy S phones, to root your phone download "VISIONary" from the market, that will root it for you

Nice but it didn't list the model as one of the choices?

There is no root yet. Have to wait
visionary works but it will unroot itself the second you reset the phone, it will be fine if you leave quickboot on though
This is crazy, but why would someone want to root this phone?
Custom Roms, Free Wireless Tethering, Overclocking, Undervolting, that kinda stuff.
for me it was to use titanium backup

What app do you use for Screenshots? I used Visionary and ShootMe says it can't get permission.
EDIT: I ran Visionary a second time and got it to work...

I've rooted every Android phone I've had, only to add features that it didn't have, but this phone, no thanks, no need for root - it has everything I've ever rooted for ready to go right out of the box!
same for me.

Can't you already do that? I don't really see the need with this phone though, seeing as it has 1GB of internal space.
I use titanium backup with tem root OK. However, I want to do image backups, and need permanent root to be able to restore them.
Alos, currently using a cleaned up base ROM on my Nexus. I would really like to see a TMO cleaned-up-cleaned-out ROM someday - they loaded this up with way too much junk.
Will fiddle with the work-arounds in the meantime, but permanent root and cleaned up ROM is the only way to go.

fascinate root no pc

Anyway to root a fasicnate with android 2.1 without a PC
What OS are you using?
For Mac there's a nice simple write up over at Android Central
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/34188-rooting-using-mac-video-tutorial.html
You'll have to use Heimsdall to flash CWM though or get VMWare or something to use Odin...
If it's linux..some searches around XDA should give you a good start
Use an app called z4root. I can't find it on the market but it is on applanet
Haven't used it myself but my father did on his fascinate and apparently it worked famously

it works, it's how I rooted.
you should install titanium backup afterward if you want to get a good copy of busybox though.
Thread moved to General.
used z4root on my wifes fascinate without a hitch.

I would just quickly like to point out that although z4root will get you root without a pc, you are kinda stuck without having a pc. You won't be able to flash cwm or radios. so no new roms since you won't have cwm

Clockwork is flashed through odin. I didn't have a problem.

Exactly. Cwm is flashed through odin. The OP doesn't have a pc. So there in lies a problem.
I thought he just wanted to do with out a pc. I must of misunderstood.

I could be the one mistaken. The OP hasn't actually stated they don't have a pc. So who knows lol

What do you mean wont download. Are you talking about the phone wont download the program or z4 isn't working?
Sounds like he wants to root via the phone only and not use any computer.
I don't think that is possible, sorry.
Yea wont download to the phone like my buddies Droid x but he has froyo and he rooted his without a PC my fascinate still has 2.1 so am I stuck without a PC or 2.2 update to get it rooted

try installing clockwork manager; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960118
then use it to flash superuser; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
but before doing either do about one hour of reading on this forum and get familiar with everything thats out there this isn't something you should do without some research first.
Thanks. I know what I am doing in regards to rooting. Just wanted to know what program people were using to get root. Different builds sometimes prevent some programs from obtaining root, i.e z4root. What is the most reliable, easy way for the fascinate

I used that guide to root my phone
The only problem I ran into was the stock kernel was causing problems with clockwork recovery 'staying'
upgrading to the voodoo kernel solved this issue (you don't have to use voodoo IIRC, but it helps keep the recovery in place)
good luck!
For DL09, I always use one click root. Never had a problem with it.

[Q] One Click Root EB Update

After using the samsung update from their websiste which update to root should I use. - one.click.root.exploitv2.5.5.zip or OneClickRootCWM3-EB13 Thanks
You can use either but if you use clockwork 3.0.0.6 it will change your filesystem to ext4 and you will need a new kernel. If you're just lookin for basic stuff use the 2.5 and i's the same process as usual

Rooted HTC EVO 4G s-off

I rooted my HTC EVO but it still shows my s-on instead of s-off. It still seems like I am rooted (still able to flash custom roms and grant apps superuser permissions) but is there a way to get s-off again? I am a noob but I feel like I know a lot so please be gentle.....

Well then you're not fully rooted.

So I have to follow this process again...I rooted using unrevoked before but then had issues with phone so tried unrooting with unrevoked again...needless to say Sprint didn't take phone back.....

Here's what I would recommend:
1) Back up whatever you want.
2) Run a RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060 to run to completely stock
3) Run this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448
Then you're good to go.
How did you root? What android version are you on? The latest OTA cannot be rooted as of yet.

Depending on where you are at with your internal workings and any update you may or may not have done, you may have trail and error back to the 3.29 ruu if your getting errors, so don't give up.
Is there any word as to if it is even possible to root the ota 2.3.3 and if there is anybody working on it? I figure unrevoked has ahold of it lol

No word yet. Please stop asking, there are over 25 threads about rooting the 2.3 update already. When a root method is acheived, you will find out.
I rooted using unrevoked and I actually did root and showed s-off but I unrooted using unrevoked and it turned s-on again...now I can still flash different roms and some apps still ask for root permission and are granted....but I am trying to flash kings v6 Rom and am having issues with it.....right now I am running mikg v1.03

I just wonder if the s-on may be my issue with flashing this particular ROM....basically getting HTC launcher error....have wiped everything with clockworkmod even switched to Aman-Ra and tried that recovery also....same issue
