EB13 to EC05_Modem_Update.zip file - Epic 4G General

This is an altered copy of ptfdmedic's DI18 to EC05_Modem_Update.zip replacing the DI18 modem_delta.bin with the EB13 modem_delta.bin from the recent EB13 to EC05 update.zip file for those that don't want to use odin to update to the newest EC05 modem.
I take no credit for the original zip/script, that all goes to ptfdmedic, I just did the easy bit of replacing the modem_delta.bin file.
(Mods, feel free to move this wherever you deem appropriate, as I wasn't sure if this was quite 'Dev' section worthy.)

Guess this was unnecessary and a little late, there is already one in the Dev section posted by deano0714 here
Oh well

Yes, that may be true but a great contribution none-the-less

If You Don't Have Flawless Froyo

If you have any issue with froyo what so ever I would HIGHLY RECOMEND you use the guide to upgrade to eb13 in the dev section and odin eb13. This was my first time using odin. Which I had to go from dk28 ext4 to eclair and then to eb13. It was very easy and it runs sooooo awesome. No lag or any issue what so ever.
Epic 4g
Also it seems like most of the issues that some of you are having is because there is a few different methods to upgrade to froyo. Those methods may not wipe cache and data like it should, odin wipes everything. The odin method is the cleanest and the safest method. And you are gauranteed a bad ass phone afterwards.
Epic 4g
I am no expert in these matters, but I believe that using the ODIN process to go to DI18 then to EB13 is a waste. I think the .exe file on the Samsung website completely obliterates all of your phone data (not SD card data), and loads the new OS. I went from DK28 to EB13. I lost root and ALL of my in phone data. That is part of a complete device wipe.
My phone is running really well so far.
You are suppose to back up data or use titanium back up. Re root using the old 2.5

Sorry I wasn't clear. I KNEW it would be a full wipe, and had my stuff backed up. I was just trying to explain why I think ODIN to DI18 is useless compared to .exe on Samsung site.
For the record I am already rerooted and have selective things restored.
I'm currently running MeatROM v106.1 with eb13 overclocked kernel with ext4 by rodderick and the eb13 modem. My phone is so wicked fast and surprisingly smooth. Idk if I want to change my ROM when new ones come out for fear that it will dissappoint. I was sitting in my living room and tried google maps after replacing my modem. It got within 1 meter in about 5 seconds. My phone is 100% perfect right now.

Yep..I saw the topic to fix rotation lag...but in order to do that I have to be rooted...and I'm a noob ... I'm afraid I can brick my phone.

These phones are almost unbrickable so I wouldn't let that stop you also the rooting process is extremely easy. You just run a file from your pc and your rooted

My video recorder also seems kinda stuttery. Used the update.zip. the official one. Not too big a problem for me though. I'm sure if its fixable, itll get fixed down the line.

Search for the app "Z4root"...it's not in the market, but is here on xda. Used it right from the phone to root my epic and it was fantastic. the app froze a couple times, but I just rebooted the phon and tried again... worked just fine. As far as I know it's (almost totally) impossible to brick your phon with z4root.
Epic is as Epic does
Also I don't use the auto screen rotate

wow that was couragously fast. see, no brick
I flashed to eb13 and found my epic running slightly slower than when I used the update.zip. could really see it in the launcher. Ended up flashing back to eclair and then using update.zip. and could not be any happier.
I never had the auto-rotational bug some of you talk about and I will be the first to admit that there is no reason why one should be different than the other.

I went from bonsai dk28 and used the .exe from the samsung site and went straight to eb13 and my phone runs wonderfully. The odin method is a waste of time honestly. No point in flashing back to di18 then eb14. Just use the samsung file. It does everything for you.

You'll get lots of differing opinions, here's mine. (I know that this won't make any friends here)
None of the current batch of ROMS is solid yet. They each have a fatal flaw. I've tried a few but ended up back on stock EB13 with the camera fix kernel flashed over it. And frankly if you flash stock EB13 using the Samsung installer it's pretty good right out of the box.
And, regardless of what people tell you flashing an Epic is not trivial for a noob. Just read all the frantic posts from people trying to figure out why their phone won't boot. Before you get started be sure you know what Odin is and how to use it (and which PIT files go with which PDA files), what the difference between EXT4 and RFS is and which version of clockwork you can use with each, and what deodexed means. There are enough variable that you have to get right that a little knowledge can save you hours, maybe days of wasted time.
If you have to try one, read the WHOLE thread before flashing and see what's now working yet. If you decide that doesn't matter to you, flash away.

Good advice here.
Regarding roms, I have to say that I think the new SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0 (1.0.1 is almost out) is a solid replacement from stock. People have had issues with bad flashes (thx CW3) but once it's installed properly the battery lasts hours longer, it's incredibly quick, and has a number of improvements over stock. Keep in mind I wasn't using roms before this due to requiring the stability of stock (was on the stock rooted EB13), but am in heaven since I switched over. The rom is amazing. None of the instability issues I have had with my previous phones+roms.
I haven't tried the Bonzai rom though, heard that was stable and good as well.

Agreed. SyndicateROM seems to be the best and most stable ROM right now. That is until CM7 is done. Then everyone will burn out to Gingerbread.
By the way...did you go with Ext4 or RFS?
I have not had any issues with viper frozen or trulyepic. Trulyepic was my first. Very simple both flashy and stable. Ext4 is super fast too.

Simply AOSP is great with the Genocide kernel.
fwiw i use midnight rom 4.0. been solid for me.
different folks, different strokes....
ive been on viper for awhile now and have no complaints.. everything works for me.. looks awesome, runs great.
Also been on Viper for the last few releases. Have not had issues as of yet. You'll get quite a few opinions, but all the devs here do a great job on their roms.
Samsung Epic ViperROM 4.0.4 Genocide kernel
I intend on trying multiple roms......right now I am on the sideline waiting for some of the significant issues (ie CIQ) to be resolved before I flash. Only a day or two away I believe.
When I first came to the Epic modding world, I started off using ViperRom. ViperRom has a lot of those cutting edge, sometimes experimental, mods. The new toys (and their themes are generally aesthetically pleasing) are nice, but may cause stability issues. I then switched to MidNightRom and was VERY pleased with it. It is based off the Bonsai ROM and is slimmed down for performance and stability. No complaints there, But I am currently using the ACS Frozen ROM, and I am VERY pleased with it as well. Speed and performance all around. So far, that is all I have tried.
Everything will vary based on user, but all the devs here put a lot of work into what they do and any ROM you flash will be an upgrade from stock in my opinion.
Try Frankenstein. I prefer bare.

EB13 pulled or re-re-released

Hey All:
I am looking to talk with a dev or someone that knows what they are doing as i have never done this. But, I want to create a "dump" of the OS on my epic. The reason for this is that i have seen a lot of post when i searched here and googled that sprint and sumsung pulled the EB13 update but whats funny is i just replaced my epic today and got a new one from my local store that shipped with EB13 on it so I figured people might want a clean OS that came preinstalled on my phone to compare it against the EB13 OTA/Update.zip.
That's very kind of you mate, but we already have the "clean os" stock tar files for the Epic's EB13 update. Just go into the development section, the files are there.

If they had changed it the version wouldn't be EB13 anymore. It would be a later date.
Phone Info
Model number: SPH-D700
Firmware Version: 2.2.1
Baseband Version: S: D700.0.5S.EB13
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: FROYO.EB13
Hardware Version: D700.0.5
I had DI18, DK28 and EB13 (first release and re-releases). It just seems that this version on my phone currently is very responsive, no lag, no camera problem, GPS quick lock-on.
Like said I am doing this so a dev can compare to other EB13 releases to see if anything has change that might help them with theme development. Consider it my contribution to the community. Also, It would be nice to have a full OS back-up of my current phone.
I think its the same there was just problems with OTA release but its good on an install like Odin so they just do that now
I would be very interested to see if the dump of the pre-installed EB13 is different from the ones from Samsung. I hope someone can help the OP dump the stock ROM.
I can guarantee there are no differences. The phone began shipping with 2.2 after the ota. The update was pulled about a week later. Probably just luck of the draw that you even got a eb13 phone.
Furthermore, as stated, the build string would NOT be the same. As it is currently march now the build would be something like EC11 (pure example).

Aha. Smells authentic. Guess I'll remain contented with 2.1 a bit longer, why not. stability > ability (for now)

When EB13 came out how long did it take for the .exe to come out??

IIRC the day that the EB13 was announced as GA, it was said that it would be released on 9PM Pacific of that day (making it the following day for East coast people).
My question is, when did Sammy put that .exe file on their servers??? The .exe upgrade went quite well for me, so I would rather use that as opposed to the version floating around right now.
Anyone remember exactly?

The problem wasn't largely with the exe which made clean installs, it was with people who updated over their old Android. So I expect the exe will be there for Ec05.

I had EB13 by 6PM EST and it's now after 9:15PM EST and there isn't a word about EC05. It's been very quiet so I'm really hoping this isn't going to be another fiasco.
I'd downloaded EB13 update & exe both from the Samsung site by 5pm CST... It's now almost 8:30 and there's no sign of EC05.
The EB13 exe and zip was posted on the Samsung website mid afternoon, the OTA update supposedly began rolling out at 9PM PST that evening. If they were running the same schedule the files would have been posted by now, and the OTA would be starting in 20 minutes.

Between the sites I'm checking, it's a substantial sampling of people. Oh, I get it, only those who don't frequent the forums get the update?
At this point, I don't understand
why anyone cares what Sprint says it is or will do. Over a day ago I found the most marvelous solution. I was on EB13, rooted with some bloatware removed, so I figured the OTA was not going to happen anyway. I thought it a waste of time to go back to DI 18. In the Android Central forums, about 4 p.m. eastern time yesterday, I discovered this thread:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/epi...ooted-cwm-v2-5-1-0-rfs-odexed.html#post761525
I announced it on a couple of ongoing threads at the time yesterday. When I got home I did it myself, and presto, within three minutes had a fully rooted EC05, with no data loss whatsoever! The most fulfilling Odin experience I've ever had. So forget about waiting, literally within the next five minutes, if you follow the instructions at the above URL, you will have EC05, no loss of data, and as an extra treat, it is rooted so you don't even have to do that. Go for it, and leave your Sprint problems behind.

That not entirely true. My wife has DI18 and I have EB13. Neither of us have the OTA update yet. I've been checking both phones.
Speaking of checking both phones (Not to hijack the thread) but has anyone got the update after hitting "update firmware" or did it just appear on the phone that an update was ready when you least expected it? I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time checking for it manually every 15 minutes.
I got the system update notice last night and updated my phone today. I have to re-root, but that's ok, more practice for me

Well, after updating did any of the icons seem different? And was there 5 icons in the Notification Bar before you updated? If you said yes to the second one, you were on EB13 and got the update. If you said no to the first one, you were on DI18 and that will get us no where.
