Hi there fellas,
I really tried my hardest to follow the posted guides, and i feel like i followed them to a tee, but i'm still getting the "Model ID incorrect!" message in fastboot
Here's my phone:
PVT - 32A
HBOOT - 1.33.0013
CPLD - 13
RADIO - 2.22.28.25
It's running Android 2.2.1
I basically followed Unlockr/DonJuan's guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734617
I redid the whole goldcard making process at least 5 times with same results.
Is there something i'm missing?
This is the SD card i'm using:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211270
I'll see if i can get my hands on a different one tomorrow, but besides that is there any other advice you can give me?
Thanks in advance guys
I already tried "Universal Androot", "z4root", and "superoneclick". It's a Perfect SLP so i think that's what's causing all the trouble
Use superoneclick root. Simple and quick

I also already tried "Universal Androot" and "z4root" and both have failed
I tried the superoneclick too, and that failed as well. It's a Perfect SLP so i think that's what causing all this trouble
The spl shouldn't matter. On your phone your only choice is the spl you have. Superoneclick worked for me on that kind of phone.. Do you have the sdk installed?

If you have the drivers from the sdk installed then superoneclick should work...

He's on the 2.2.1 update, which means SuperOneClick is probably failing, saying "No space left on device." You can easily manually use the exploit from SuperOneClick to root. If that's not the error your getting, let me know what the error you ARE getting is and we'll work it out.
I'm not sure where exactly it displays the error message, because i don't see one.
It says "All root files have been installed! Would you like to run a test", and once i do that all it says is Test failed! FAILED
I did install the SDK back when i had my G1 so maybe that's messing it up. But i think it should still be in order because i was able to install apps using adb onto my MyTouch
Any luck yet? Did you try restarting the phone after rooting it?

Try Universal Androot. You can find out on the forums here somewhere. Way easier.

Hi
I'm trying to root my phone using the guide on the unlockr.com and when I try to downgrade to 1.5 it says "Main Version id Older, update Fail"
What can I do?
Did you do the goldcard method? If yes, your goldcard isn't working and you need to remake it.

If you're getting that message I'm guessing you're not using the gold card method and u need to

WRONG!
Did you install the Superuser app that comes with androot?
If not install it separately and it should fix your problems!
Or install it from androot by changing the options before clicking the root button.
How would I go about getting gingerbread on my new mt4g?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
download cm7 (cyanogen mod 7) or download nexus s...either one will work from the development section. to use gingerbread, you will need clockwork recovery 3. (2 is flashed from rom manager) directions to flash clockwork recovery can be found through a search.
here are the links
CM7:

You don't NEED a computer to do this, but it GREATLY helps things along.
and YES you must be perma-rooted with s=off.
Ok. Thanks. How long would all this usually take. How do I go about rooting my phone.

yes. to root your phone i suggest following the true permroot guide.
for the need of a computer..it is not required, but is recommended. it would easier to root your phone and flash your recovery with.
the true permroot guide can be found here

Dude, he was asking for HELP, not to be made fun of...
no, back to the question at hand. to root the mytouch 4g, you would need to follow one of the guides to rooting found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866175
that link also has links to all the other things you will need, but Ill provide them here as well for time's sake.
once you do that and have s-off, you will need to flash an alternate recovery to flash a rom. Normally, you would need to install rom manager to do this, then flash clockwork recovery through there, but to install gingerbread, it requires a special version of the recovery which is not officially supported by rom manager yet, so you will need to either install through fastboot (follow the steps provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852905 )
or else follow the instructions provided by TruBlue found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10670110#post10670110
once you have the right recovery installed, youll need to wipe data and caches, and then flash the gingerbread rom of your choice.
As for what apps you will need for all this: ROM Manager, as I mentioned (the premium version if you'd like to take advantage of CM built in nightly build update notifications). Titanium Backup (for backing up all your apps so you dont have to manually redownload them all, and have your app data intact on the new rom), and Root explorer (optional) for a root-enabled file manager.
Any further questions, feel free to send me a PM. Thanks to Tiger013 for compiling the list of everything, grankin for his Root how-to's, and TrueBlueDrew for his how to on install CWM 3x.

have you tried the visionary app?
ive been using visionary but still it seems not to stick'
Anyone have any suggestions on how to root this device? I have read the rooting threads and visionary is not working - it is hung and says "rooting please wait" for 10-20 min... i have tried everything with visionary.
Next, i tried the gfree method http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Glacier:_Full_Update_Guide#Rooting_the_HTC_Glacier
when I get to this step, i get an error "unknown option'
./gfree -f -b hboot-eng.img -y recovery.img
./gfree: -b: unknown option
kind of stuck.

Enable USB debugging and temp root with visionary. Reboot between attempts. Once temp rooted you can use gfree to get S-Off. Then use visionary to permaroot or just flash a custom recovery and ROM.

usb debugging is on.
when i go with temp root, it just spins - says "rooting please wait" and spins and spins.
When i check temp root on reboot, it boots up and says "rooting please wait" and spins and spins.
Can you give me more specific directions? like reboot between attempts, what exactly do you mean?

Unchecked the temproot on boot option.
Try to temp root. If it fails, reboot. Repeat until successful. If you get desperate, factory reset your phone and try again.

I believe Visionary doesn't work on Mytouch 4g phones with GingerBread. You have to the option to downgrade to Froyo then root. Currently there is a one click method for htc phones.
