Biggest problem is you could brick your device. The other is yes technically it does void your warranty but I have never heard of anyone being denied warranty exchanges on a root device.
It's always been my experience that bricks aren't likely. I've flashed quite a few things. Is it any more likely in this case?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
If you can read then you won't have problem rooting. Everything is writing in steps. Unless you are a retard then don't try .
Hahaha I think I'll be alright. Other than almost dd'ing a hard drive the wrong way once I'm pretty astute. I'll probably root next week.

Anyone have favorites on roms, while we're at it.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Hey mate, if I can root anyone can, if u need help pm me. As roms go, u can't really go wrong. Iced and the DHD (desire hd) roms are much like what your running stock just with slightly improved graphics and other customizations. Miui is from another planet where android and ios had a baby, slick smooth and very dif from any other rom ive ever tried. I like it but its kinda like a plymouth prowler, kinda cool lookin but just not quick enough. Cm-6 is prolly the best and def the cleanest android experience. Ive had a couple issues with it but its still what im running.
Awesome reply srivers33 good info. I was leaning towards iced (seems pretty popular) I am looking for something more vanilla but def not a requirement. I might just flash a few and try them each for a little.

Backups
Always make sure u do a true perm root and use rom manager and its clockwork mod recovery to back up the stock. That way if stock 2.3 releases before a good 2.3 rom releases you can just flash and update to 2.3!!!
Thanks dont think I read that in any posts, its a good idea. Definitely sounds easier to go back
OK I'm currently on the rooted GB leak and I want to return to stock 2.2. Now I have bought the TBH app and I'm wondering which file I should download through TBH to return to2.2.
Thanks
Look for the master stock file. There are two so read them because one of them can't be rooted.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Or you can just download the stock .sbf file and rsd lite and flash it that way. Its how I did it.

Haha thats no the reason ive decided to return to stock. But my reason probably isnt any better. I actually switched back because I LOVED the stock DX 2.2 keyboard and i just couldn't live without lol.
But if someone knows how to get that keyboard on the leaked GB rom, id switch back instantly.
The only reason I went to stock rom was because I was on GB and wanted to go back to liberty.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
REMEMBER! if you ever want to reflash GB your must SBF if you used the monster zip to get back to froyo 2.2. The phone has issues otherwise?
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
See this is just nonsense, Motorola and Verizon would BOTH have to bring out new user end agreements in order to be able to look onto your phone without it being illegal. They have no rights to a device that you buy, which means they can't track you period. If they do you can sue their asses for privacy as well as just general illegal searching. Simple as that

I've had my Epic for about a few days now and I'm starting to feel like I made the wrong choice. I chose mostly on the hardware, than the software. The battery drains like the phone has a hole in it, the TW UI is just bad and I can't use the regular launcher. I'm sure this phone would be better with pure android. So what should I do? ROMs, Kernals, etc. Thanks in advance!

If I were you I would install some kernals.

Well hurry up and return it for a nexus... you only have 30 days.

Why downgrade? Go with Colonel Twilight and the Frozen revolution! It's nearly pure android experience. Only catch is you have to give Mystery a kiss.

Seriously though, did you try launcher pro or adw or any other launcher yet? Get a task killer, estrongs is the one I use. Use it. Move all apps that don't have a widget to the sd card.. custom roms IMO are still too buggy..
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
There's definitely a nice selection of Kernels and ROM's available, take a look at the development section, read through some of the features of the different ones available, and see if you find one you'd like to try.
In the end, whether you keep the phone or return it for a Nexus, is all up to you... none of us can really answer this for you, because we all have different wants and needs in our phones.
And fwiw, software side of this phone can be easily modified/customized, so if you're happy with the hardware, then perhaps you should look into the software customization.

Well the kernel has tweaks in it that can save battery... I'd go with syndicate rom frozen with the genocide 1.1 kernel... pretty good combo for me, I can have my screen on for about 4hrs and I'm sure if you use the phone less you can get a few days out of it

Yeah the only buggy rom's are some of the gingerbread roms and there LEAKS... if you want a stable rom syndicate 1.2 is the one to go with.
EDIT: cyanogen is out but not a daily driver yet ie: many things are broken and they are waiting for gingerbread source.

A good tip to remember...if you do go the custom ROM route, some have no journaling. If you choose one of those, make sure you power down phone completely and don't let battery die or you will get force closes out the arse. If this my be an issue for you, get a ROM with journal on or flash the journal on mod after flashing the ROM.

Probably a dumb question, but can I root and install a rom w/o going on a computer?
Sent from my Epic 4G using XDA App
Syndicate Rom. It's absolutely awesome and very few bugs with almost all features working that I have noticed. Turns the Epic into the EPIC!!!!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Go with SyndicateROM Frozen. The 1.1 version needs updating ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091680 ) on the ClockworkMod. The 1.2 version ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131544 ) requires the latest ClockworkMod ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115999 ). You need to flash modem to EC05 with Odin.
What I did was flashing modem to EC05, put the first CWM on the phone, then installed SynROM Frozen 1.1. After that, I updated the CWM, then updated to 1.2. I think the 1.2 is not full package (?) and upgrade from the 1.1 (?). Rodderik will update the 1.2 version with latest CWM. You can either wait for that update or continue with the steps that I did toward the 1.2 version.
Edit - SynROM Frozen 1.1 comes with ClockworkMod included. When you get it installed, just update the ClockworkMod (what I did was using the flash method with Odin) then upgrade to 1.2 version.

Dump sprint altogether and get a htc sensation with tmo or if you really want to stick with sprint get the evo 3d.

You had it partially right. Hardware is paramount simply because you can replace the software with better software but you can't replace what drives it. Root your phone with the new purple CWM and then give the Syndicate rom a try. What kernel you choose for it depends on your phone since they each take to certain kernels differently. I am personally using the second to last version of the Genocide kernel and voltage control with great results.
Think of the rom as a car's body that you can choose to option and the kernel as its engine.
I prefer Go Launcher over Launcher Pro and Handcent over all the others available.
If you want incredible battery life download an app called DataSwitch by TomatoX.
Make sure to enable journaling too.

I thought the same thing when I first started using tw... If your taking about the launcher I won't argue. But the rest of tw is pretty good. Built in task manager that clears ram, the dialer is dope. Contacts list is very functional, U can swype right on a name to call our left to txt. Also easy to navigate if u have alot of contacts. Hold your finger on the right in portrait mode to jump through letters, than if, lets say you know alot of T's when u get to T, slide your finger to the left and you can sort by the second letter (feel free to say thanks). If your in to facebook the buddies now and whatever other things are built in to the tw launcher (though if u change launchers you lose those widgets) activities in contacts links your fb friends, the... Does... And u can... With... And so on and so on and so on... theres alot to learn that u wrong in a few days... I've had mine since release day and I just found out... Yesterday... long story short, u only get one chance to trade ur phone in. Use the whole 30 days before u decide
P.s. u can change your screen brightness by long pressing the notification bar and sliding left to right. But u gotta have auto brightness turned off (thanks ↓)

Accuracy might because it's a fresh install and it hasn't had a chance to add nonsense to it's dictionary. My problem with the old Swype was over time the accuracy went to crap unless you cleared data every once in a while. I've tried just about every keyboard and FlexT9 has been the best for me. Swiftkey was ok until I tried and used the hardware keyboard and it forced it's prediction/correction system on it, which was awful for me and no way of turning it off.
Could someone make a rom thats stock android on froyo? Meaning no touchwiz, no bloat, etc.

Stock has twlauncher and bloat. You can always flash a debloated rom and replace launcher.

Yea thats the way I did it. I have adw launcher now.

If you mean an aosp rom, yes. It can be done. But, as with everything else on this phone, the ticker would make it extremely difficult. And I doubt you would ever get all of the bugs out.
