Hi guys,
I got my new HTC Magic about a week ago and I've been having problems setting custom ringtones. I trimmed an MP3 file using RingDroid to use as my ringtone and then I selected that as my ringtone. All was fine and well.
Then a bit later I turned off my phone (was in an exam) and then when I turned it on again, I noticed that the ringtone had been reset to a default one that came with the phone, in this case the one titled "Highway". I thought maybe this was a fluke so I chose my custom MP3 file again as my ringtone and all was well again....until I had to restart my phone again. Again, it reset the ringtone on its own to "Highway". So I thought maybe this wasn't a fluke, and chose my MP3 as my ringtone, restarted the phone right away and again it changed the ringtone to "Highway".
I thought this was only happening to MP3 files so I decided to change the ringtone to another default ringtone that came with the phone. I chose a generic telephoen ring and it set that as the ringtone just fine...until I restarted the phone. It reset the ringtone back to "Highway".
So my question is, how do I fix this annoying problem?
I talked to HTC support and they said to choose my ringtone via the music player but that didn't help. I sent an e-mail as well to HTC Support but have not heard back from them yet.
No solutions???
Which ROM are you running? My t-mobile mytouch 3g tends to keep settings intact after reboot.
I keep losing my ringtone settings after having mounted my phone via USB...
no solution to this?
I have the same thing with Galaxy S Plus (i9001).

For Galaxy S Plus (i9001), all you need to do is to copy the ringtone file from your external SD card to internal SD card. It seems that android looks for the ringtone file before external SD scan is complete and since external SD is not available when it is looking for your ringtone, it just reset it to default.
I presume other phones with this problem might be the same.
So I set up my ring tones for voice call and notification but when i mount the phone to my computer the ring tone change to something else. If i get a text or email when the phone is mounted, it play a really annoying ring tone and the ring tone would play until i open the text (using the puzzle lock thing). This is bad for me at work when i am away from my phone.
Anyone notice this or know how to fix it? I used the G1 for a long time never have this happened.
Its that way because ring tones are stored on the sd cards and when you are mounted the system can't access them so it uses a default tone. No way of fixing it that I have found.

Sumasage, why do you mount your phone when you're at work? I understand why you might want to plug it in (to keep the battery charged), but unless you're copying data to/from you're phone, you may as well keep it unmounted.
If you are rooted, just use root explorer to copy the ring tone to your /system/media/audio/ringtone
Almost forgot, you will need to reboot.

I have data files and music on my phone so that's why it mounted. Regardless of reason it is till annoying, especially the ring tone sucks lol
@mr2t32 will try it and let you know.
Anyone else experiencing an issue with the default music player app? Mine stops playing after the screen cuts off. I've got it ignored in task manager. Any ideas what could be causing this?

In addition, I found that leaving my phone sitting in the passenger seat while playing music can make it randomly skip songs. I don't mean to the next song, I mean to the middle of a random song. And when it finishes, it hops back to where it hopped from.
I am having this issue as well. App is ignored in task manager but music stops playing a minute or so after the screen goes to sleep. It's really getting annoying. Thank you in advance for your help.

I thought there might have been some interfering auto killed app, so I unchecked all of them and proceeded to block half each time to find the problem. 0 apps blocked, music worked after screen went off. Half blocked, music still worked. 3/4 blocked, music still works. 7/8 blocked, music still works. Block everything I intended to be blocked the first time around, music still works.
Yeah, I have no freakin idea why my music stopped after playing with the blocking, but it solved itself somehow. Just try soft reset, give it some time.
I also have the same issue. It doesn't appear to happen when I let the screen lock itself, only when I manually hit lock.

After messing with differnt apps being auto ended, I discovered that the gallery app has something to do with the music player. When I removed the gallery app from the auto end list, the problem went away. When I readded it, it came back. Someone else will probably want to check this but it worked for me
What I did is:
Remove music app from the app killer
Go into- manage apps/music player/force close/clear data
Songs will be deleted
Put the songs back, but put them in the- playlist folder
hope it helps.
I think this may be a no hassle temporary solution.
If your music keeps stopping:
Set your timeout to never, manual lock, unlock, set timeout to your normal setting.
So far, I've only tried letting it timeout on its own, but the music doesn't stop anymore.
Is the music on your SD card or internal memory?
It's on the onboard memory.
it is a system bug
and a third party player can fix it.
i use MIUI player and didnt have that problem
i have my music on both internal and sd card storage... and this keeps happening..
anyone using a different music player? I'd like to find the one used in CM. (any idea where that one can be had?)
I tried Meridian, but the error happened to me once. My quick fix seemed to work still.

I don't have this problem and I can manually or automatically lock without the the music gets interrupted. I don't use any taskkiller? There is no reason to use one in Froyo and not on this powerful phone.
i tried every method you guys have here and theres no luck =[ i hate this i might just take the phone back but apparently is a problem with the OS its self i might just buy and ipod touch
Turns out the task manager was the problem for me. Even though no music applications were on the autokill list, it still killed my music. try removing everything from any task manager or task killer. I'm back to enjoying my phone again.
ramensama: don't be so quick about that.
Sometimes, unlocking and locking the phone is enough to stop it from stopping.
y i got a question not sure its the right thread but.. i have a pair of earbuds with remote and volume and answer keys which does not seem to work on my atrix.. is there anyway to make those keys work.. cause when some one calls it doesnt use the built in mic... i think... anyone having the similar issue?

Thx, this worked for me too. I excluded the Gallery app from the auto-end list and all is good now
I have an MP3 clip as the ringtone, works fine no issues but every week or so I notice the ringtone has changed to a standard windows sound and the reminder settings switches off vibrate.
I've not found any other settings changed just those two and can't think of anything being done on the phone prior to the problem that could cause it.
Any ideas...

Maybe you delete the file

No file is still there, I simply select it again and everything back to normal. It's the reminder that's annoying, it turns off the sound (a standard alarm sound) and just has vibrate which I don't always notice.
Do you connect your phone via Active Sync and then choose "diskdrive"?
I've had the same problem and noticed this happened when i connected to a computer using this option. You probably have this ringtone stored on your SD-card.
When connecting your phone as a diskdrive to your computer the sd-card becomes ïnvisible for your phone (you can't access it anymore from your phone). I guess this is why the phone automatically switches the ringtone back to standard.
Solution: store your desired ringtone on the internal memory.
good luck
Great, thanks for the tip I will check and if so move the mp3 clip to phone memory.
Thanks
on every boot up I get an obnoxiously loud song playing... any idea what that is. The song it is playing is t s_over_the_horizon built in ringtone
the ringtone was becuase i had my backup sim card in and have no minutes left and have a voicemail message.. I think it is a bug in lpb and is trying to play my default message /notification tone and the sd memory is not mounted yet on boot up so it is playing that obnoxious song.
doesnt matter if i put my notification on the sd or the external sd.. will try now copying it to system instead.
doesnt matter if the notification tone i have is in system either..
now trying to move my default ringtone somewhere in system
tried with both my default ringtone and notification tone copied to system.. still plays the damn song immediately loudly on boot if i have a message when booting up.. very annoying..
other issue is screen most times goes black immediately after making or receiving a call and cannot be reactivated either with home buttons or touch screen for 20-30 secs.. not useable like this.. especially if you need to dial some code or turn on speaker. I think this may be due to some bug reading the state of the proximity sensor or something.
No need for a new thread, just post your bug report in the existing LPB thread(s)
