This locking down these devices totally takes away from a true android reason for existence right?
I say companies should if anything charge 100 bucks more for a prerooted phone, and cut the warranty in half if they are truly that scared. I would gladly pay extra for a rooted device new out of the box.

The wizards here at xda will all ways find a way, the desire z and hd had extra security and it was cracked. The Htc thunderbolt has recently been rooted to.
It is a worry though I would hate to have to stick with stock. But hope fully the nexus product line will continue so there will all ways be that option assuming that Htc make them from now on.

My Vibrant was very easy to root, modify, and most importantly, restore to stock. If it had a physical keyboard I'd probably still have it. The sense I got from the community there was that it is one of the easier phones to work with (except for the whole Samsung never upgrading it or releasing the full source code).
The g2x is supposed to come with the bootloader unlocked so I would put my money on LG

They are similar in specs. You should play with the Evo at a Sprint store. Most have it on display now.
Well Evo seems easier to root with unrevoked and screen is almost the same, I hate hump in the back of the droid tho, and I got tired of motorola phones (bad speakers in most the I owned ) so I stick with the Evo and HTC if you want veruzon you should wait for the thunderbolt.or incredible s to come out , thunderbolt is an Evo redesing with new sense and inc s is almost the same just smaller

Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
The specs are pretty much the same.
So in my opinion:
form factor: I like the evo. It's nice, slick, flat and sexy. The droid x has that awful bump on the back and is hideous. Winner: Evo
UI: Motoblur's happenings widget is badass, but HTC Sense is faster, better looking and more usable. The widgets are nice and don't slow the system down. Winner: Evo
Root: Don't know Droid X root method, but the Evo was by far the easiest root I've ever gotten (coming from the MyTouch Slide and the G2). Winner: Evo
Roms/dev support: We got CM, which means we have THE BEST AOSP roms on earth. We've got half a dozen fantastic sense UI roms (Myn, MikFroYo, Konikub's Elite, etc) and they're always updated and supported. Plus, a bunch of themes. Winner: Evo
I'd get an Evo, but you should try one out at the store before making a decision. Some people really like their Droids.

Which one would you choose? The 3.0 sense on the sensation looks so nice, if you have not seen videos of it you should definitely see it. The g2x is stock vanilla froyo, but it will gb soon after launch, also it has the tegra 2 processor and the sensation has tge quallcomm processor. Its very hard for me to choose.

G2X bootloader is wide open (Cyanogen's next device!), Sensation is locked. So choice is pretty obvious.
I haven't decided yet. I need to see some reviews and "usability benchmarks" (ie: how well the devices respond in general usage). The Vibrant puts down good benchmarks, but fails in everyday usability (it's laggy to respond, even with bionix, voodoo kernels, overclock). I think Samsung's source is to blame; they just can't write good code.

Yeah but that's why we flash in the first place, to get our phones working the way they should have shipped. Though I understand, I'm slowing down a bit on the constant flashing. I just wouldn't expect a phone that works just the way you want out of the box. Though to answer your question, the G2x seems to have the lasting power, with vanilla Android, Tegra 2, a swift 2.3 update planned, and an unlocked bootloader if/when support is dropped and you decide to flash it to extend its life. However, I've heard some QC issues, bugs with it, not that HTC doesn't have its own problems with that.
Does the g2x have its own forum now? I saw the optimus 2x forums, but I dont know if its for the g2x. I wonder if its already out in europe because there are roms for the phone.

Skip the Sensation and save your phone, just wait for the Quads like unk said, by that time we would have ice cream sandwich phones with no buttons and 720P resolution(better than qHD), Full HD Camera/vid, and who knows what else.
There is always gonna be a better phone that is going to be released. If you want the sensation and feel that its a good deal then go for it. The mt4g is still a great phone though and i probably wouldnt trade mine away.
Yeah I've been thinking about it and I'm leaning toward keeping the mytouch 4g because I feel it will have a larger user group (which means more support as far as rooting/ROMs). Also, not sure if the bootloader will be unlocked on the Sensation 4G.

Just get the sensation then...It is better in performance since you have neither just get the higher-end one. But I would recommend you to wait for the SGII or ICS phones at the end of the year. But I'm getting very repetitive in explaining why you should get one or the other.

True. I was looking at the sensation forums and it seems like an unlock is very close, official or not. some people were "accidentally" sold sensations with S-OFF and root.
I would do it, $50 Imo is not that much especially when you're getting a sweet looking and powerful phone like the sensation. I am very very happy with my mytouch but if I was offered that deal than I would definitely pull the trigger! If you got the money then do it but if you really don't then don't even think about it just don't do it. Either way I would still upgrade to kai-el. I am off contract so don't really have to worry about termination fees or early upgrading. Thank god!

agree....very good arbitrage situation.
i would get the sensation
I love root and I root every phone I get my hands on before I even log into my Google Account, and the lack of root on the Sensation really pains me. Honestly, all I want is Titanium Backup capabilities so I can transfer my data from games such as Aqua Pets and the various Kairosoft games.
The phone is super sexy, but I guess I'm a "Power-User", cause it only takes a few minutes for my battery level to TANK. Example - Week after power cycling the phone (so hopefully this battery is "conditioned" enough), I leave my house at 8am and around 815 I start downloading Audible books over HSPA+. I lose service at 840 when my train goes underground, and when I get to work 10 minutes later, I'm at 76% already.
The 4G KILLS this phone, and I need Juice Defender Ultimate on EXTREME just to make it through the day.
Comparatively, my MT4G on stock battery last slightly longer under the same circumstances.
So I would recommend holding out on this phone for maybe a month or so. I'm not going to return it, I love it, and Sense 3.0 is actually quite nice. The weather animations and the carousel are nice touches, as are the lockscreen shortcuts and "themes". It's not a bad skin to stock Android, and it doesn't seem to slow the phone down.
There is a ton of useless bloatware on the phone, and some stuff that might be running in the background, so root would be awesome to have to trim the fat in that sense (pun intended).
Hey I just need some advice here.
I got a friend who wants to trade me a
Nexus one with cyanogenmod7 on it.
I have a g2 that's rooted also with cyan.
My question is with my g2 I get about a gig of
Internal memory I know with the nexus is doesn't have much memory.
Should I stay with the g2 with more internal memory or should I move to the nexus.
Has anyone else done this trade with anyone?
I would like some pros and cons that would help with my decision.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Honestly, id keep the G2. Second gen snapdragon rapes the first gen (which the nexus has) in CPU and especially GPU department. Now if you want something without a kb then thats personal preference. The Nexus will always have the advantage being a native google phone, but in terms of hardware its a downgrade imo

I agree, I have both too, and I really like the track ball of the nexus one; also the flashing multicolored notification lights are really nice. Another plus of the nexus one are those three dock pins on the bottom for the desktop dock. I really love that feature, why don't more manufactures implement this. I was kind-of thinking of drilling in some holes and wiring it up on the g2 but had second thoughts.

What persuaded you to go that route vs. the EVO LTE? I mean, Sense is way toned down with the new 4.0, and seems to not do much but enhance the experience. Just want to point out that I haven't ran a Sense ROM in about 6 months either, but the new version seems nice, and the hardware on the LTE is absolutely sick!

Go check the other evolte threads where scottspa quoted toastch from the twrp thread in the onex forum. HTC has forked up the unlock so badly you cannot flash firmware once unlocked, USB connection is unavailable in recovery mode so you can't flash the boot partition, system partition meaning without and exploit to gain s-off access to the bootloader the htcdev unlock is essentially useless for flashing roms/radios, any kind of p*img.zip, onlyway to flash any kind of upgrades currently is thru an ruu. HTC locking their bootloaders and giving a halfassed unlock method as some kind of joke/tease is why I currently will not purchase another HTC device. I'm not giving my money to a company who claims to support developers by giving them a halfcocked useless tool to unlock what shouldn't be locked in the firstplace. Samsung doesn't lock the bootloader they just implemented a flash count that triggers anytime you flash an unsecured kernel, its easily reset using a USB jig or if you're on ics an app called triangle away by chainfire. Rooting is as simple as running a prerooted firmware thru Odin/heimdall and Samsung is now releasing source prior to the ota and are dropping updates as quickly as they are stable. After I had a Samsung intercept as my first android device Samsung left a bad taste in my mouth and I went to the HTC evo, as if had several HTC winmo phones and liked them. Then I was given an ET4G sprints version of the sgs2 and realized how much of an improvement Samsung has made in the 2 years since I had my intercept. Now HTC goes and forks around with the monkey business of locking the bootloader then giving an unlock method thats about as useful as a broken key to your front door, so now you gotta spend alot of time and effort attempting to break in your own Backdoor with out damaging anything
