[DEV REQ] Silent/Vibrate/Volume on rocker - Epic 4G General

I would love to see the old volume rocker control from DI18 incorporated into the new froyo release.
The old volume rocker use to:
The all the way down position was: "Silent All"
Up one position was: "Vibrate Only, no ringer"
Up one more position was: "Ringer On +/- Vibrate"...
When i sleep i like my phone silent without any vibration.
but after i get up i like it to vibrate only (but no ringer), which use to be just a click of the button...
and then when i get in my car i wanted the ringer, which was just another click of a button.
Now its just a pain to make change (vibrate only) to (silent all) setting...
Please help, Thanks!

Wrong section, but +1!

Well if no one decides to take up this project, I can recommend you to try some of the control panel widgets on the market. You can use Extended Controls or System Info Widget. I think they're only like 99 cents each or something. You can just put up a 1x1 widget with a toggle that will do silent/vibrate/normal.

Winning!

Right there with you, i'd love to see a mod to restore this functionality.
+3

been requesting this for a while now. Hopefully the great epic devs can slip it into the newer EC05 roms, especially ACS since that is what I use at the moment. Glad I wasn't the only one dying without a feature that seems so simple, and essential.

Yea, it is an odd function to drop. I use the free Silence widget from curvefish.

Not development, moved to general

Thanks for the sugestion of the app, but it would be nice to be able to just use the hardware rocker.

One of the few things about the new froyo I really don't like. Another vote please!

I posted a request in the Google help forum.
In the mean time I assume(and hope) the more votes we get here, the better chance a developer will pick up this task?!?

An alternate option that would please me just as well would be a long press on the volume down that would toggle vibrate between "never" and "only when in silent mode". That might be easier to develop?

i used" widget locker "from the market for a while it has several options for different lock bars and lock bar options.

with this tool you can switch between 'volume on' and 'vibrate' by shaking your phone
Just run it and click on 'Hide', so that it always run in background.
Please test it and tell me if the sensivity is ok and if it's not drain your battery to much.

Sounds nice!
But how "hard" do you have to shuffle? I mean can it happen accidentially for example by running with the phone in your pocket?

That's why it takes so long until i published this app.
I coded it so, that nothing can happend! Only if you shuffle the device, it change to vibrate or back to volume on.
I think it is not possible, that this happens, when you having your phone in your pocket ..... ok i don't know what you are doing the whole day...maybe it is possible
COOL!
Not to be ungrateful...but would it be possible to write something similar that will put an alarm into "Snooze" mode?
eg...Alarm goes off and instead of me having to navigate through the menu's to stop or snooze, I would just shake it?
i'd like to have a function by shuffling the diamond, that the screen goes on or off...
well done!
But is there any notification if you shake it that the status change is preformed?
So if you do it with the screen switched off you need a feedback if it was sucessfull. Maybe one beep for vibrate and two beeps for volume on?

It doesn't work, when the device is in standby!
If the device is on, you see it in title bar.
But i could also add a vibration feedback when switching.
Nice trick !
I will have a look at this...
Thanks !
@sushi : did you use the Gsensor API for that ?
its perfect!
@MonteCristoffOn:
I figured it out by myself, how to use the gsensor.
But at the end it was easier and faster to use the finished api, which was published a few days ago.
Works great so far!! But one question: Would it be possible to start the app completely in the background like a service? Thanks alot for your work!!

Yes, that's what i want to do in one of the next versions.
very sweet indeed!! I would also vote for a short vibration feedback after switching and customized actions to perform.. Thank you
After testing, i figured out, that my app works when the phone is in standby. First i said, that it won't...
In next release i give you the possibilty to change parameters, so that we can find the optimal settings.

Yes please provider a slider or something to be able to set the sensitivity by ourselves..... cuz sometimes when I shake it, it changes... other times it doesn't But the intention of this program: I love it!
Working Great!!
Awesome App!
i agree with other comments about the below....
As mentioned, a small vibrate or noise ( maybe make a noise when switch to loud, and vibrate it when switch to vibrate ??)
The shake to "wake up" the fone sounds awesome.
also shake to snooze or turn off the alarm.
Also things such as turning the phone over would work well with the alarm functions, and turning off the alarm
How about turn phone over to snooze alarm... shake it to stop alarm ???

Profile option?

Hi,
I noted with interest when going into the Ringtones etc config section via the HTC Settings interface there are a number of profiles defined. This is something of interest to me as I miss these from my Nokia days (one for at work when I want subtle, one for in the car when I want loud etc).
Is there a quick way to then get to (ie. switch between) these profiles once configured that anyone has found?
Thanks in advance.
Yeah i was about to post the same thing, how annoying....
Yeah, you could just click the volum rocker and choose between Silent, Vibrate or change the volue of ringer or system to suite your mood it is very handy and quick.
G-profile is a good solution ...

Um your are reading into it to far, it means what it means lol.
darn, ok
i guess i just have to consider G-profile then, anyone knows any free version of G-profile?
I definitely propose CommMgrPro (also in this forum - use search).
The skin work is bad (but you can make something nicer yourself if you like), but the function is perfect. After all the developer owns an HD2.
He soon plans on a GUI update, but as I said in terms of functionality, it is unbeatable.

Ring for calls only - The easy way?

I kind of hate that this is my first post - A little pedestrian - I've been a longtime lurker and thanks to a lot of this forum, I made the jump yesterday to a rooted MyTouch 3G with Cyanogen's latest. I'm pleased.
Coming from a BlackBerry, I've been spoiled by the easy-switch between "profiles", specifically the ability to set the device to only ring for calls and not for SMS or other notifications.
I'm finding a one-touch solution difficult to come by - And I've already tried "Profiles", "Auto Ring", "Toggle Settings" and "Ring Toggle" - Each of them is either a multi-step process to get to "just ring for calls" or won't turn off SMS vibration, a common issue?
Anyway, great community here and I hope to be a small part. If anyone knows a simple, reliable way to set my phone to just ring (for nighttime important calls) and silent everything else (except alarms) - Please let me know!
Thanks!

Um have you tried going into settings, sound/display -> ringer volume? You can check a box and mute your notification sounds. Personally, I find this really easy already but if you must have that one-touch then.. I don't know

It isn't a deal-breaker or anything, but even with a shortcut to "Sound & display", it's a few extra swipes and pokes
I was hoping there was a shortcut directly to that screen or just a simple on-screen button that could turn everything but alarms and calls off.
Thanks

i think that if it were developed it would need to also toggle the "vibrate on" selection within each notification setting for the various apps that utilize notifications. like gmail app, email app, exchange app, messaging apps, sms/mms etc. it is currently an android weakness compared to winblow and dingleberry but the other strengths of the os outweigh this and a few other features' immaturity. try the market...
well as of right now I can offer you one thing that requires 3 clicks lol
use a shortcut widget! But that is almost as long as doing it normally... lol
although there may be a way using better cut (trying to figure that out)
yeahhh I don't know what else you can do ;p
I give up looking for it. I tried using better cut / any cut and tried the "make your own shortcut"
Apparently there is an intent to adjust the volume but.. I don't know what to put in the "data" field. Searched around and not many people know how to use this feature either haha

...point about "vibrate on" is that you'd need a shortcut (as you say) for each app if, like me, you activate "vibrate on" as part of the notification profile for each of the app examples i listed above. in other words, simply silencing notifications volume from settings/ringer_volume/use_incoming_call_volume_for_notifications has no effect on the "vibrate on/off" selection profile for the individual apps.
It seems like the whole "SMS vibrations are different" deal is what really makes this a difficult implementation - Every application I've tried has difficulty specifically with silencing SMS vibrations that are turned on - Otherwise, it's totally possible - Very, very strange that this is still an issue...

An app similar to Invisibright Pro but for Volume?

I use the invisibright app because it gives you the option to stick it in the notifications bar so you can access it whenever you need to change the brightness. I'm looking for a similar app that does the same except this time, its the volume settings, not brightness. My volume rockers have been modded to be used as menu and back buttons, which I find really handy, so I'm left with using recent plus to access volume settings. Sometimes it takes a while to have recent plus start up, and pulling up the notification bar is faster. Is there such an app?

That's what I'm currently using for volume. I don't like it that much though because sometimes it takes forever to show up. The 'long-press' on that app seems to be a 'press for a lifetime' for me.

Hey guys,
I'm working on this today and ran into an interesting issue. Normally, volume rockers can are "smart" by sending a volume up/down event to the currently open app. You'll see this when you hit the rocker while playing music and it knows to adjust the media volume, not the system volume. If I implement this in the slider, I have a bad feeling that the key remap mod will kick in and it'll send a menu button action or something. Can someone (with a Nook) willing to test this out for me give me a quick PM? I only have a Droid Charge.
UPDATE:
nvm, found a much better way of doing it
Thanks.

Alert slider mapping

I'm currently thinking of a remapping app (remapping as in changing a physical button's output) , but I do not own a oneplus two. Can somebody tell me what the alert slider's keycodes are?
If any of you is willing to help but do not know how to find such info, I attached an apk (that I built from an open source code) to this post. Please install and open the app then change the alert slider state, screenshot the output then send them to me. Also, please state what ROM version you are running.
When the app is finally released to an xda thread, I'll list all the testers there of course.
P.S: The Alert Slider is that new hardware slider that changes sound profiles, in case you didn't already know
Here is the screenshot, hope it helps, makes sense to have the silent mode in the down position.

I'm ready to be your beta-tester
OPT with OxygenOS 2.0.2 with Xposed here.
Would be great if we could reverse the mappings, so instead of all notifications with the slider being all the way down it would be all the way up for all notifications.
Slider up: All notifications
Slider middle: Priority
Slider down: Silent
Strange idea, but what if for each slide matched a battery profile, like battery saver, balanced, performance?

I thought about having multiple layout options : battery modes;CPU governors; rotation change etc..
However I still haven't found the alert slider mapping file :/ This is becoming quite frustrating
Will have my OPT soon and will do anything I can to help out with this. Think the All/Priority/None options are not useful at all.
