Anyone else update their camera firmware? That feature seems to work if you go into the camera settings under the wrench, there is an update available. Just installed it, not sure if it makes any difference but it isn't broken like it was in EB13.

Mine just tells me "Latest version is installed"
(I'm on EC05 Stock)
If this is the OZ camera firmware update (from version OP), then it has actually been available since EB13 hit. Just weird that the camera fw update is separate from the rest of the phone. But yeah, updated mine a few weeks back.

Does it hurt anything to do this update? I heard EC05 supposedly fixed that video problem from EB13 and don't want to mess up a good thing (haven't tried the camcorder function yet actually).
When I try searching for an update my camera locks up. Only a reboot and Titanium kill fixes it.
thanks

thanks. i will have to check that out.
Well, I just downloaded and installed it on my rooted stock rom and kernel EC0. I don't smell or see any smoke yet, and it didn't screw up the other camera/video lag bug that I just patched.
So far so good!
Tested the camera firmware
I just updated the camera firmware and everything works fine. There is no low light fps drop or laggyness.
I am using the current sprint EC05 OTA froyo.
So far the only differences I noticed are:
There is a little thumbnail on the bottom right of the screen of the last video or picture you took depending on which function you are using.
When using the camera function the top left button swaps between the front facing camera and the rear camera in a single press.
More info:
Originally I manually downloaded the previous EB13 froyo update which messed up my camera very noticeably when using it in low light settings. I reverted to stock 2.1 Eclair which fixed it. A few days ago I installed the OTA Froyo update from sprint and so far so good.

That functionality has been there since at least DK28, just FYI.
They need to ad the ability to turn on flash on the fly while video recording
I can't be certain since I never used it that much, but I think since the EC05 update and this firmware, the front-facing camera takes *much* higher quality images! But it's impossible to increase raw hardware megapixels, so maybe I'm wrong or they just improved it in other ways. I think it's unfortunate though they didn't make the camera app record video with it, since video chat is possible on all these other apps.
My camera update force closes
Using Syndicate Rom SRF 1.0.2 (EC05), trying to update my camera firmware always results in a force close of the camera app. Everything else appears to be working normally.
Edit: Reportedly, this is because the camera app has removed sprint branding in this rom.

I had the same problem on Bonsai... In my case, it was because SamsungApps.apk was removed from the ROM, and this is necessary to run the firmware updater.
Find it somewhere (can't help you there, but a search on the forum should turn it up), put it back in /system/apps, and you're good to go.

since installing 2.2 i have had numerous problem that i never had before. problem after problem with audio, and my G sensor is all effed up. i'll launch app after app while holding the phone in portrait mode and have it open in landscape as well. i have recalibrated my g sensor time after time and it seems to help for a short time, but then goes back to doing the same thing.
i love android but 2.2 doesn't seem worth it to me.
Nope. Not having said issues.
Sounds like you should wipe cache/Dalvik cache, factory data reset and reload the ROM and start fresh.

running the latest 2.2 leak. adrynalines second wave to be exact. the audio issues are known for froyo in general, but i i really have no idea whats up with my G sensor. it started right when i started running 2.2. it happened with the first leak and is still happening with the second leak.

I did the audio fix. Certain music apps just arent working with 2.2. XiiaLive and MOG have issues with 2.2 and stagefright, even the new google fix.
The g sensor thing, now I have no idea what thats about, and I havent seen anyone else mention it which worries me. I did clean wipes on all of my installs, so thats not it.
Ok the G sensor thing I think I have figured out. If I close the messaging app in landscape and then open it in portrait view itll launch in landscape view. If I close the messaging app while in portrait view itll open in portrait view. Just using the messaging app as an example. So apps seem to launch in the view they were in when last used. I dont remember seeing this back in 2.1.

skyraider 2.2 has been very stable and efficient on my device.. I would strongly recommend downloading ROM manager from the market and using it to install skyraider 2.2... it'll give you an option to wipe clean and clear data cache.. make sure you check both... should be smooth as silk.

Oh stop it.
The market fix is a workaround because the Rom fingerprint isn't in Google's database.
The audio fix is something not even official Froyo users have yet.
The browser issue is circumstantial and not an issue for all or even most.
The gmail fix was dealt with in the latest leak.
720p quality has more to do with hardware than software.
You need to look at the whole picture, not just the parts that suit your argument.

Theres alot of chatter on this. This is the deal breaker for some of us so please post if there is a solution at all on any version of froyo. Some say the camera blur is on all the leaks and the final EB13. Is that true?
I just tested it...
My camera was extremely unusable just now. But yesterday, I was able to record a basketball game perfectly indoors.
This was not present in dk28.
Dk28 actually had great lowlight useability... I recorded a few videos out in the park around midnight without flash and they were easily viewable. Flash was just a plus.
But now seeing this problem I might actually go back to dk28...I realllllly don't want to, but ima need the camera to work in low light...
I thought it was just recording laggy, but the playback was exactly the same

I wonder if anybodys tried it with the OC kernel...it could possibly make up for the lag that is present. I don't think there will be a solution here on xda anyone soon, IMHO. This all seems to be a camera driver issue as I believe samsung changed the inherent behavior of the camera.
but this is all speculation of course

oh yeah. I used 1.2 genocide. No help, just as blurry.
inconsistent
The camera on the Epic has been inconsistent even before upgrading to Android 2.2. Sometimes the images rival a good point-n-shoot but only when there is plenty of light. The fact that the camera sticks out and collects smudges just from holding the phone does not help.
I have had better luck playing with the ISO and other settings. Even just leaving the camera in Macro seems to produce better results.
Is there a better camera app?
I wonder if anyone's had any luck installing the eclair camera app?

I was running the stock DK28 rom downloaded from Google when it was first leaked and I had zero problems with the camera.
I own a pretty dimly lit store, and I took several videos in there with the phone that I posted to YouTube showing off our products, with DK28. Now with EB13, the camera is useless in the same store with the same light.
This was not a problem with DK28. It's not Froyo. It's EB13 that's the problem.

thats my fear aswell. But sprint and samsung just pulled the update from their sites. So that means they do know of these issues anf realize it has to be pulled and fixed. But comparing eclair to froyo camera performance is night and day. Pretty much useless at low light. I need low light. But I will never buy htc just because they update faster. Htc has their own awful hardware problens like under performing gpu and cpu.

I am not sure if it is just me - but at least this part is NOT fixed. clearing open apps still has the same stutter that it had before. I restored the animation scale back to 1x and that has not changed anything. Maybe that is how it is supposed to be.
The app launching appears to have improved *slightly* . Whether double tap is more reliable remains to be seen. The update did not reset my launcher setting i.e. it did not revert to the stock launcher .
Overall - so far , I am not seeing anything worth getting too excited about - Not so far at least.
BTW - just to confirm - I now have Android version = 5.0.2 Kernel version = 3.10.49 Build number = 7SQR-UER0

Same here, not too much difference noted with this update. Anyone know if Alcatel includes a changelog someplace with these updates?
I feel differently. This update, so far, is great. The lag I had previously is nearly gone and installing apps is much much faster. DTTW has worked everytime (only tried about 7-8 times so far) unlike previously when it hardly ever worked. I don't notice anything different on the camera but I've only played with it for a short period. I've not used this phone as a daily driver since I got it in May because of the user experience, it just lagged and I hate lag - especially compared to my LG G2. Today however, I put my sim card in and will give it a true test, being the daily driver.
I was going to return it initially but held onto it waiting for an update and glad I did. I simply couldn't understand why this phone was not at least as fast (or faster) than my LG G Pro Or HTC One M7 since both of them are running the Snapdragon 600 (vs 615) and slower GPU. Plus both are also running pretty heavy skins yet both were way faster/smoother than the Idol 3. It had to be software and optimization which seems to be what this update addresses. The screen and speakers on this phone are to die for and I'm glad it's now able to be used effectively. I may think differently in a day or so after a real world test but for now I'm excited about this little guy.
I just got the update this morning, and my initial reaction is pretty good. The phone just feels snappier overall. The notification shade seems to come down very smooth all the time now. Previously, when the keyboard was open, the notification shade would drop a lot of frames when you pulled it down. The camera seems to be doing a better job of getting the correct point of focus too. Also, double tap to wake actually works now! This is huge for me because it only worked about once out of ten tries for me before. I'm happy.
Edit: I'm also seeing about 1.5GB of extra free storage. I wonder if the phone wasn't properly moving apps to the sd card before. I have about 12 games installed, and I have them all moved to the sd card.

Well I asked in the other thread about size and was told 1,35GB. That is roughly the same as the 5.1.1 update was. Seems quite big if they only are going to patch Starfright 2 and some minor tweaks/bug fixes. But then it can be that they fixed core bugs that needed updates to several system components or just that this is the final update for the Z1 line and thus they want to release a complete firmware.
It's over 1 GB because on XperiFirm you only get complete firmwares.
I bet the OTA notification on our phone will not download and install over 1 GB. We will only get the updated files. I don't know what size it will be. Never did an ota on my phone.

I bet the OTA notification on our phone will not download and install over 1 GB. We will only get the updated files. I don't know what size it will be. Never did an ota on my phone.

Ota is generally around 200 to 400 mb on my z2, when i got update over ota {5.1.1}
My impressions so far:
- Stagefright fully patched
- Sound seems to be louder using movies app and music app, but I don't know if it's a placebo.
- Video playback is smooth using hw+ in MX player, before that version the playback was hanging when you seek using hw+
- performance seems to be improved, since I don't have noticed any hang since the first boot
- Battery seems to be better, I only get 2% drop while testing AnTuTu and I get around 39k, I don't really care about this number since the general performance seems to be really good
- I am noticing a bug while using phone dial, It don't sound when I press the number keys.. But this is an insignificant detail for me
- Camera seems to be a little faster too
- I haven't noticed any new feature until now
- I'm from Brazil but I'm using Hong Kong firmware version which is fully compatible with the Brazil frequencies and seems to be debloated
Sorry for bad English guys,

I have: 8974-AAAAANAZQ-10270084-75

What do you mean? Radio active bug?
Camera lag
Hi guys, I'm testing right now the DE prerooted zip with clean install. It's quite good it's not heating so much, I would say similar to KK. Battery drain.. can't say yet, probably still not as good as KK but good enough. The sound quality seems different (worse) to me, using really clean sounding MH1C and can hear a difference between KK and 5.1.1. But I can't stand the camera lag, found out that if I set low ISO (50, 100) there is no such lag but with higher ISOs deffinitely is and quite significant! Do have this lag too?
Waiting for the C6903.
Did anyone try any modes on the new firmware? Like 120 fps or 4K or call handling? How is the wifi? With latest firmware, mine had degraded. How is the wifi reception on the new firmware?
Hello any memory bugs?

I think radio active. I have this bug case using wifi for time long enough, then turn off or disconnect wifi, Data does not activate automatically as usual. I have to change my phone to Fly mode then back again.
I rarely take selfies, but I noticed yesterday that when I tried to, I couldn't switch over to the front facing camera using the gesture in the camera app or by way of the icon in the camera app.
It acts like it's going to - shows the "flipping" animation, but then just shows the rear camera again.
I've gone as far as doing a factory reset on the phone and going back to all stock settings - same is still happening.
Any suggestions?
Was it after the latest Android update? I had a camera issue after the Android update was installed this morning. The camera gave me a "camera failed" every time I tried to launch it.

No it was before the one I got just 2 days ago as well. I installed. 3rd party selfie app just now and it just shows a blank screen for the front camera. Betting the camera is hosed...
A little more info - seems the phone thinks that the rear camera is both the front and rear camera....
I installed AIDA64 and the REAR camera is listed twice under devices - and no front-facing camera. Guess that would explain why when I flip from front to rear it always displays the rear camera....
Now the big question - how to fix?

in software updater on your phone, yes. might take a day or so to sync though. but it may solve the problem if your factory image to reset your phone is bad
Well I finally got around to flashing via ODIN - same problem on both stock AT&T Nougat and on the Unlocked Nougat :-/
Phone is out of warranty as well.
DOH!

Ok thanks - will try it today! If it fixes the camera I'll be coming back to the unlocked Odin - love the speed and lack of crapware from AT&T but miss the camera.

Let me know, I have never seen that issue. If your not able to do it take it to a Samsung rep at best buy. (I'm one of them)bro get it reflashed.

I've googled the hell out of it and haven't found one single peep about it - if it weren't for AIDA64 showing the same camera twice I'd be clueless as to what the problem was!
