return to stock rooted droid x - Droid X General

okay I bought a droid x off of a forum member and it is running a rubix blurry 1.8, the system version is 2.3.340...is there an easy way to return to a stock rooted phone? or should I just stick with this rom....sorry I am new to the x and dont want to jack up my phone...thanks

Personally I'd update to the latest version of rubix but if you really want to go to stock just Google madderstock.zip and flash that file in recovery

if I upgrade to the latest rubix, would I have to wipe data and cache, if I didnt that would be a positive to staying with rubix...thanks for your help.

In my opinion, the easiest thing to do would be to SBF back to stock 2.2.1 then root with Z4Root, for a complete stock rooted experience.

Link to files for sbf in description. Sbf would be the best way to get to a clean, out of the box stock. Its super easy.

Just do what Jmoney said, that is the easiest way, by far!

To be honest I don't know that much about rubix but generally speaking you would not have to wipe data and cache. Make sure you check first though

if you're on tranq 3.5.1 you're already on .340
I guess I am glad I didn't upgrade to .320
Sort of....
I had no idea Tranquility 3.5.1 had 2.3.340. I donate to several ROM teams (why not) and I am looking to see what Team DeFuse does with Fission 2.3->2.x build, hopefully it will include 2.3.340 soon. I really like the speed of their ROM.
so basically this .340 update is the same as the leak version? so if i manually somehow updated to this .340 am i able to use the latest sbf file?
3.40 is not the same as 3.20!
Personally, I'd like to know what the difference is between the two. I have the 3.20 leak and the 3.20 sbf but can I use them once i go to 3.40?
If there is any difference in .320 and .340 (beyond Madden of course) it isn't readily apparent. Someone can try doing a diff on the system files between Tranq 3.5.1 and stock .320, but the bootloader and kernel are the same. The baseband hasn't changed at all since 2.3.15.
When is the update going live?

As per Droid Life>>> DROID X 2.2.1 Update Will Be Available Tonight?
My question is, will I see the update?
I have flashed the leaked VRZ_MB810_2.3.32_1FF_01.sbf, I am not rooted and haven't removed any apps.
If u updated with TBH leak version you will have to wait for there patch or fix or whatever it is they are doing before you will be able to get the OTA.
I just got the DX update. I never signed up for the feedback network either. I pulled it.
Anyone know if we should hold off? dont want to lose root for good....
can you post the zip please?
Installed the update and lost root. It's also rebooting into clockwork recovery after powering down and back up. Reboot system option works. I was just rooted, no ROM or themes.

Afraid I don't have this. I do have a nandroid backup and the .320 sbf. Can I restore the backup or flash the sbf if need be? Don't want a bricked phone...
Am pretty sure that I am booting into recovery because of how koush's bootstrap works. It was installed and since I don't have root it can't complete it's thing. In this case it might be a good thing
Z4root is supposedly working, try that.

[Q] ROM updating with 2.2.1 (system 2.3.340)

If you are running version 2.2.1 (system 2.3.340) on your DroidX can you and what ROMs can you safely flash that are out? for instance dark slide? Or Fission?
both of those will run on the droid x but really look into the two best apex and gummyjar....
good luck just do some searching you will be alright...
Ive used a few TranQ which was horrible on my device 2 others that didn't work for beans and dark slide im on now. DS actually worked for a while but it has a memory leak and now with age its getting more unstable.
I wanted to go ahead and upgrade to the current basis of 2.3.340 system SBF but as warned " attempt to wipe with an old SBF, you WILL brick your phone." But I am a little confused on what classified as an older SBF at this point?

Highly subjective, I for instance think Fission is the best, and for those who want some blur, ApeX is my choice.

You can't just apply 2.3.340 over non-stock 2.3.15.
Make sure your bootloader is 30.03, if it is, then:
The easiest thing to do (in my opinion) is to flash the 2.3.15 full sbf with RSD Lite to get back to stock. Once that is done, then just do the OTA update on your phone to get to 2.3.340. After you've done that, you can use z4Root to get root access again and install bootstrapper, etc.
Now you can apply ApeX 1.3.1; you can get ApeX 1.3.1 here:

Now thats what i needed to know. Thank you bro!

Rooted Deodexed update

So I couldnt find a thread that quite answered my question. I have many ideas, but no sure answer, and I dont want a brick.
I have a rooted and Deodexed X on 2.2 that couldnt update to 340 for whatever reason. I want to update to OTA 340 and run the ApeX 141 ROM on that. Should I undo the root and reodex the phone before updating? Can I update it somehow as is and not have a brick? I saw something about doing an SBF, but Im not entirely sure if thats what I do...
Ive been away too long... ha
You could do an sbf, it is not too hard but if you don't know much about it you might as well try to stay away from it. What system version are you on exactly?
If you end up doing an sbf back to stock there are a few videos on youtube that walk you though the process. I watched xdroidroms and it worked perfect for me.

If you decide to sbf it will automatically put you on 2.3.340. Just download the full version not the system only file. After that z4 to root. Install bootstrap make a backup and flash away. Good luck. Don't worry doing an sbf is not hard. Just read and read some more.

2.2.1 rooted apex 1.4.1 honeybread v2
What I ended up doing was the Materstcok method. Seemed to be a lot easier then trying to learn sbf. Unfortunately I ended up having to do an sbf anyway because I tried deodexing for some reason. Haha. It all worked out in the end anyway. Loving the ApeX ROM as well!

Sbf wasn't as difficult as I thought, I used it to get back to stock in order to be able to flash gingerbread.

[Q] Help returning to Froyo from leaked Gingerbread

Hey,
I'm coming from a rooted Thunderbolt and I understand a bit about flashing different roms, but this seems different.
My little brother decided that he wanted to update his Froyo X to the leaked gingerbread before it was rooted. Well, he did. But now he's getting random reboots and wants to either move back to Froyo or just move to something stable. What exactly needs to be done to do this?
Like I said, I have a rooted thunderbolt so I was exposed to using adb to get root. Would the process be similar in this case? Also, is there a way to flash back to Froyo without doing a full data wipe? He said he didn't do a wipe when he installed gingerbread.
Do a search on how to SBF for the Droid X. You can "sbf" back to stock froyo and reroot with z4root app. From there, he can upgrade to stable rooted GB or stay at froyo. If you'd like to know how to upgrade to a rooted version of GB, visit mydroidworld.com and there's lots of info there on how to do so and all the files you need.

Check out that sticky. Has all the information you need. Hard to give an opinion without being a fanboy, so just read on up and decide for yourself. BTW, cm7 is not very stable for the droid x, so you might want to look at alternatives.
Z4root in the link. I don't think you can install cm7 on the DX due to the locked bootloader.

I would recommend liberty or apex rom, had them both before and really liked them. Currently running the team black hat .595 rooted and deodexed. I froze all the bloat, changed the boot logo and animation too. Probably just depends on what level of customization you are happy with.
DX 2.3.3
CM7 isn't available on the DX so you're SOL on that one.
The easiest way to root is (as previously mentioned) z4root which is all done on t he phone itself, you just need to grab the .apk from the XDA forums here.
Personally I would recommend Fission over Liberty but that is only because my DX doesn't seem to always play nice with some of the Liberty tweaks. Fission 2.6.1 (Froyo 2.2.1) hasn't been updated in a while but it is very solid, very fast & has excellent battery life (when paired with SetCPU.)
If you want to go the *leaked* (meaning it isn't done yet) Gingerbread route, there is the TBH (TeamBlackHat) stock releases or you can also check out Liberty Gingerbread (which I've been running for the past couple of days). So far so good with Liberty GB but battery wise I think its better on something like Fission.

I've taken a quick dip into GummyJar...
Apex...
And have stuck with Liberty ever since switching to it.
Currently running liberty gingerbread 0.5 actually...and even as a beta it seems to be running flawlessly.
2.01 is on froyo, and is a stable version if you'd prefer that.
LB 2.0.1
Liberty 2.0.1 is the best user experience. Plus they have a supported and free toolbox. Z4 root works.
Ok, so I have a question for u guys if u don’t mind. My buddy has a droid x that he is wanting to flash custom roms on. I have a htc evo and I have quite a bit of experience when it comes to that phone but im completely clue less when it comes to the droid x. He has ran z 4 root and is fully rooted and has a custom recovery but he was saying something about he needed to deodex the files on his phone before he can flash a custom rom which sounds weird to me. If any one could help me help him I and he would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

That is wrong actually...you'd only need to do that if he wanted to keep the stock ROM & just theme it. If he wants to flash a different ROM then all you'd have to do is drop the ZIP file onto the root location of the SD card & wipe cache, wipe data, wipe Dalvik and then install the ROM (like you would on any other ROM via CWM.)

Exactly. That's what I was thinking. I tried telling him that the stock rom would have to be deodexed in order to flash a theme but since he was fully rooted and he had a custom recovery he should be able to flash a rom but he wasn't listening. cm7/miui is a no = bummer....
Fission = most stable (its at 2.2 still right?)
Liberty = most promising GB rom?
Does CWM work for the DX my buddy kept telling me he read somewhere it doesn't. Also does that fission rom flash its own recovery?

Fission is indeed 2.2 (2.2.1 to be exact) and (on my phone) it works fantastic...Liberty and a few others aren't as friendly some apparent reason.
Liberty is the most active I would say but b/c they do a lot of tweaks, some phones (like mine) are finicky with those tweaks. Their Froyo release (2.0.1) is solid & their (leaked) GB mod isn't half bad either.
CWM does work, you just have to apply the Droid X Bootstrap Recovery installed & run the bootstrap in the app then reboot in order to get to the CWM interface.
So that cwm business sounds annoying do I have to do that everytime? Is there a working recovery for this phone such as amon ra? As I mentioned before fission includes one correct? Can the fission recovery be used to flash other roms? Also is there a 2.3 update coming for fission?

It's not as bad as it sounds to honest, it takes just as long on my wife's Dinc (running CM7.0.3) to hold down power, choose reboot then choose recovery to get into CWM. The bootstrap app is free (just gotta search online) or you can support Koush (the dev) by buying it in the Android Market ($2.00).
That's the best the Droid X can do to get into CWM b/c of Motorola locking down the bootloader. The only ROM I know of that lets you boot into recovery is Liberty *BUT* it honestly is faster using the dedicated bootstrap app.
Not sure about Fission going to 2.3 however not much has been updated on Fission since 2.6.1 (based on 2.2.1) was released but my guess is that it would however get updated to Gingerbread. GB on the DX is not *officially* out yet so all the leaks at this point are still just leaks...and all the GB-based ROMs are based on potentially unfinished leaks. It does run (really) well but it still is running a handful of Motorola services (even Liberty GB is) and I prefer as close to AOSP as possible...which is why I always go back to Fission 2.6.1.
Seeing 60-75MB of memory used (instead of 100+MB) in "running services" with (near) AOSP ROMs makes my inner OCD geek happy
