"We have approved the Hero 2.1 Android update and it has now been handed over to Google and HTC for their final approval. When this occurs, the software will be available to download from the online Discover Center. We will provide more details here next week as soon as it’s available."
Right off their facebook page! YES!!!!
Note: If you want to root your phone later, Do NOT apply this update!!! IF YOU ARE ROOTED, DO NOT APPLY THIS UPDATE EITHER!!! This WILL wipe your phone and root! I will be making a stripped down flashable version once it is released!
Wow sorry to hear you had to wait what, an extra month and a half? That's nuts.

I'll be damned. I know they said they were going to but CS has been the let down kings for years. Maybe they're getting their **** together.
I'll believe it when I see it! LOL
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Yeah the wait has been way too long.. I'm not even worried about the update that much since the xda community gives me more(and better!!) options than CS ever could lol I just want my picture messaging already...

Just go to the nearest samsung service point and see if they can help you? You may end up having to pay if they determine neglect, but it'll be heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new one?

So a full wipe? Is the Galaxy S not capable of OTA updates?
yay cant wait to kill my phone again. third time is a charm.
can we assume that this official firmware will include the PIT and other features that 2.2 suppose to have, and be as competitive as Nexus 2.2? SGS has been a nice hardware but with so many limitation on the firmware, hope those Samsung engineers really gonna fix it properly...
Forgive my disbelief but I don't think that will be released at the end of September.
Hope to have that damn copy paste issues resolved and contacts search straighten out.
But I think I'm dreaming.
When is this so called 2.2.1 update coming ota? I've read online that there is a leaked version for those rooted but I'm not and I want my ota update damn it! I asked a rep this weekend and he said "in the next two months" but he also said the same thing when i asked when lte was coming out...oh those silly Verizon workers
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
the reps in store probably do not know when the update is due out.
Yeah... I like asking them questions just to see what how they will answer ya know? But does anyone have any info on the release date?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
There are no dates yet, officially or unofficially. Just stay tuned.
Motorola won't even admit the leak is their work. Get on motorola owners forum you will see the lack of communication on motorolas part. They also refuse to provide any information about possible update timelines... They operate their business like they do their boot loaders...

Does anyone know what the update is going to (in theory) fix? Any sort of changelog?

the last official communication from Motorola is here:
_https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/38876_
While the leak runs like a finished product, there's no guarantee that it's ever coming OTA anyways. It does fix most of what was posted in the link above.
Also, I believe that VZW rep was right about LTE
LTE was launched yesterday(Dec. 5)! As far as a 2.2.1 OTA... only time will tell.

Where is your source of this information ?
well good news is even if it's only available for i9000 UK, that automatically will work on all the other I9000 series
if they want other languages, they will have to rip it off the sources for Nexus S
is this true?
a link to the source?
I cant find any information to support this, just idiots posting unsubstantiated rumours.

Well, you're in for a threat! Until you get a real source or a release from samsung without telling the world (like they did for GB), you'll get about a gazillion posts like this...
The same appened for GB, for the Nexus S and about every rumors that pops up!
Heard we'll got ICS just after the iPhone3GS gets it.
And that came from HTC.

"confirmed now. Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich update is finally coming on March 1"
The news was revealed by tech insider Eldar Murtazin in his tweet. He recently wrote that March 1st would be the date when the smartphone would receive the OS update. This is about a month prior to the old expected date of update.

The reason is there isnt lot of ICS devices
Only the Galaxy nexus , So devs' aren't looking forward to develop apps for it
When the High End devices have ICS update THere will be Tons of ICS compatible apps

If by incompatible you mean they are not working, that's not true. I think the only one I found not working is Viber. Although I haven't searched that much.

I am Very Sorry about this
I searched several threads to find i am repeating a post
And none of them had Confirmed Date
So that means.. Just 9 days left
Sent from my GT-I9100
I don't think it'll release on March 1. The way the betas are going. It might be mid March or so.
If it is true, 10 days left for me. BTW this like the 756th thread on this news...
About the app it's silly, all new-updated app makes update available for ICS 4.0, due to regulations for customers that bought already app.
And, as far as i know, 1 march =100% fully working stock rom with ICS, Samsung have been given before beta's already, now is the time for Sgs2 ICS
Great news if it does nothing else than speed up a full CM9 release
