ok cool i had 1 more question tho i have the vibrant 2.1 flashed which means i should get the update. and after update i am going to loose the root but i can root it again right?
"vibrant 2.1"
you mean you are stock? Or did you flash a custom rom?
You should be able to root it once you have stock froyo (once a developer figures out how to exploit it)... but I would not do the OTA update. Just keep your eye on XDA and you will have froyo + root, and it will be stock.
In the near future there will be custom ROMs that take froyo to the next level.
Wait wait wait...a T-Mobile representative said the first week in September? That goes against the opinion of several members of this forum. Are you sure that was said?

Not with the same root file. But yes they will have a rooter for it so yea, get the update and wait for root. Or wait for a rooted version of the rom and flash it.
I personally will update ota then root when its available ....

so does that mean even with 2.2 our phones will still lag?????? this is lame...too many issues with that lag fix people are reporting. and then im wondering if people who report "perfect, love it" ever come back to report issues when something goes wrong, or do they just quietly flash back without letting anyone know.

I did the one click lag fix the day it was released here on XDA. I'm still in love with it, no issues at all.

We have no idea what the 2.2 update will change, so there's no way to tell whether or not the perceived lag issues will still exist. Let's not spread speculation...it tends to end up being interpreted as fact by some people.

I tried RyanZA's 2-3 lag fix and had major problems with Google Maps after a while. I'm going to wait and see how the stock 2.2 performs before I do any more tweaking. Even then I'll probably wait for a stable custom ROM with a lag fix cooked-in...there are too many variables involved with re-partitioning the phone for me to trust a scripted installer 100% of the time.
I just called T-Mobile, and the rep I was given said she had no idea, but logging into your MyT-Mobile account might show some more information.
Just curious?

Can you clarify why when FroYo comes out it will require a different root procedure? I did not realize rooting was in any way related to the particular Android version. Going back to G1/MT3G days, once it was rooted, it was rooted, and then I flashed ROMS from Cupcake to FroYo as they came and never had to do any re-roots, that I can recall? I'm actually thinking the opposite of your thoughts. I've never had any lag with Eugene's V6, so I'm inclined not to update what works well (assuming what you said is correct) until "root for FroYo" is available. Being rooted allows you to do too many things, so I ain't gonna fix something that ain't broken now.

Go ahead and update. It's not going to pull a Vibrant on you.
Can u install alogcat before doing the update, that way we can get the ota link, for those of us who have not received it?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yes, PLEASE try and pull a log, we need to get that ota out there so people can install it themselves, or reinstall if they've messed something up.
Did you already receive the 2.2.1 update or is this the first OTA for you?
after you install alogcat, go to filter and type in "clients.google" without the quotation marks
Post all questions in Q&A section.
Thank you,
Korey
i left mine in the notification earlier. i read somewhere, prob just a rumor, that if you install the update, it will lock you out of using hotspot for free(which they are gonna be charging $15 for soon).... until i can get a def log of what the update is, i will just leave it there.

That sounds likely to me. Doesn't make sense to charge for it if you can just turn it on and use it without the plan. I'll stick to my 'wifi tether' app.

I have over 48hrs of logs on my SD card now because I've been running aLogcat the entire time waiting for the update on my second device. I'm starting to think that T-Mobile is screening for folks who are logging haha.
I've been waiting for over aweek when the t mobile people said 48 hours after first call was made btw I have been very happy with this phone switch from nexus one.

When is this so called 2.2.1 update coming ota? I've read online that there is a leaked version for those rooted but I'm not and I want my ota update damn it! I asked a rep this weekend and he said "in the next two months" but he also said the same thing when i asked when lte was coming out...oh those silly Verizon workers

the reps in store probably do not know when the update is due out.
Yeah... I like asking them questions just to see what how they will answer ya know? But does anyone have any info on the release date?

There are no dates yet, officially or unofficially. Just stay tuned.
Motorola won't even admit the leak is their work. Get on motorola owners forum you will see the lack of communication on motorolas part. They also refuse to provide any information about possible update timelines... They operate their business like they do their boot loaders...

the last official communication from Motorola is here:
_https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/38876_
While the leak runs like a finished product, there's no guarantee that it's ever coming OTA anyways. It does fix most of what was posted in the link above.
Also, I believe that VZW rep was right about LTE
LTE was launched yesterday(Dec. 5)! As far as a 2.2.1 OTA... only time will tell.

So, as I read this forum and a few others, it appears that a Gingerbread Mod is the way to go for now? I am running Darkslide V4.2 on my rooted DX, but I want the Netflix app, and it won't work. What mod do I need? I am a beginner with the whole modding of the phone. I got extremely lucky when I unlocked and rooted both my DX and Xoom. I got it on the first try and didn't brick my devices. LOL. So, any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

This is what i've gotten so far from my research over the past several months in anticipation for Netflix on my DX. You can't get netflix to work on any android device as of now. There was a leaked version that came out a while back that only worked for less than a month. It was supposedly a leak from a concept phone at CES, if i remember correctly. Netflix's servers just deny access to any Android phone (The leaked Netflix.apk is fully functional, minus actually streaming movies. That is, you can still add things to your queue and browse the library). This is because they are still working for a universal DRM system for Android (if they want it to goto ALL android devices), otherwise it will only be available for certain android devices that work out deals with Netflix individually.
EDIT: Lol, I lied. Just found this. you need gingerbread 595

Redundancy of the OP's complaint aside, none of those posts suggest a potential solution to the problem. Does anyone have one? This all stems from a seemingly broken constant connect to Google, which results in most, or all, of the following symptoms:
White connection bars instead of green
Inability to connect with Gtalk
Auto-Sync with any Google service (gmail) disabled, despite check in settings
Someone suggested they were getting a push for an update, but there have been no details, and I'm not seeing anything. Aside from switching back to 2.3.3 or to CM9, is there anything else we can try?

Most Verizon reps seem to think that rooting tampers with hardware... I've been down that road with the Samsung Fascinate. I wasn't thrilled to say the least but I was still able to get a replacement since they couldn't prove that it was the reason why the phone failed. My patience for tech support of any kind is fairly thin due to me being an avid tech enthusiast...

Id be interested to see if the new phone has the same issues, I have flashed back to 2.3.3 multiple times and OTA'd back to 2.3.4 , each time the same problem, gtalk broke and service bars stay grey, and google sync never works unless I manually do it.
I called verizon today and I to have no use for verizon tech support I think each time I was more knowledgeable about my phone and its software/firmware then whoever I was speaking to.
I posted my every bit of the useless conversation I had with verizon in the proper thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25807552#post25807552
