[Q] One-Click root and recovery? - EVO Shift 4G General

Is there a version of "Unrevoked" coming for the EVO Shift or is anyone close to developing a "one-click root and recovery"? I am new to the HTC side of Android coming from Samsung Galaxy S line.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976605
Similar but v1 wasn't reliable and the OP has yet to put up an updated version.

Came across this last night from the facebook group HTC EVO UPGRADES. Was wondering if this new or if this is the old one? Saw its just a single .apk u download.
THANKS
If you're talking about the 1 tap root method for superuser permissions, that seems to be old.

[q] new aria user and confused

I just exchanged a defective captivate for the ariaand looking at some of the threads confused. Do I root now or wait for froyo??? when I have froyo will rooting give me acces to the portable wifi hot spot feature???
If you're planning on rooting at some point, then you might as well get on with it. You can have Froyo now with either CyanogenMod 6.1 or Liberated FR008. Both have the wireless hotspot feature included.
If you wait for the AT&T Froyo update, you will probably be waiting awhile, and at least for now, you are not able to gain root once you've applied the official update.

If and when HTC/AT&T release Froyo for the Aria, chances are the wifi hot spot will be disabled.
My advice would be to root now and then install either CyanogenMod 6.1 with is AOSP Froyo 2.2 or Libertated FR008 ROM (HTC Sense w/ Froyo 2.2) from the European Gratia. Both of these custom ROM have the Froyo Wifi hot spot enabled and working.
Ihave a few questions...how do i find htc sync and install it?? after getting modified froyo on does that stop att upgrade? and all modified upgrades roms manual intal?

You can download HTC Sync from here:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/aria-att/downloads/
Nobody really knows if the Liberated ROM will get a notification about the AT&T upgrade because it has not happened yet.
Yes all of the custom ROMS are manual install.
keep in mind that when ATT releases the FroYo update it will probably be unable to ROOT at first. they love to add new securities to make life interesting for us hackers
if you do get an Aria check out my Aria Superthread Guide for info about how to mod your new phone
I do own an aria
thanks for the files!! doing root now

It should tell you when it is finished.
One word of advice, unrevoked didn't work for me under windows. I think the Ubuntu LiveCD method is pretty trustworthy though.
I've used UnrEVOked to root 3 different Arias with no problems... so if you don't want to go with the Ubuntu method, go ahead and try Unrevoked.
if unrevoked were working, would I see a series of messages?? I just started it , should the mesage pushing recovery stay on for sometime? how long should it take? Im running win 7 pro 64 bit
It took me about five minutes using the ubuntu method. If it pauses at waiting to reboot, it's safe to take it out, and start it over again I believe.

Stock Android

Hey guys i am just wondering if there is a rom that has stock 2.2 or 2.3 android for the phone. No touch wiz or anything. I looked around but i just foiund 2.3 video, which i assume is not yet released.
2.3 is not released officially yet. if your looking for stock 2.2 try eclair or if you want 2.2.1 try froyo.
both can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
search for cyanogen mod 7 there is a beta out
the 2.2 and 2.2.1 all have samsung touchwiz, i think only 2.3 doesn't have touch wiz, someone correct me if im wrong...

Yeah, you are right that 2.3 does not have touchwiz. Maybe it has something to do with a fact that there is no 2.3 for a single Samsung phone yet?

lol, maybe... I read somewhere that 2.3 won't have touchwiz, it will be android stock... i dot know if its a good or bad thing... Still waiting.
Wow! The misinformation in this thread is stunning....
The Android versions are as follows:
2.1 - Eclair
2.2 - Froyo
2.2.1 - Froyo
2.3 - Gingerbread
Now, as for touchwiz. The Galaxy S version will almost certainly have touchwiz. It will be very similar to our phones right now, but with the power of little Gingerbread Men.
Next, as for not a single Samsung phone not having 2.3. That is simply wrong. The Nexus S (a Samsung phone) was released with 2.3 over a month ago. However, because it is also Google branded, it does come with stock 2.3. The reason we don't have 2.3 on the Galaxy S yet is because they are adding touchwiz and all the other Samsung crap. And unfortunately, the hardware difference between the Nexus S and the Galaxy S is big enough that an easy port is not possible until Samsung releases the 2.3 source code for out Galaxy S.
All of the stock samsung ROMs are ALL with the touch-wiz.....
If you want there are many cooked roms without it, or CyanogenMod Beta that is gingerbread 2.3.....

[Q] temp root

Hello my name is Melvin. I have a HTC EVO 4G. I had previously done a temp. root with unrevoked. I had 2.1 OS, and i think i may have screwed up. I new the new 2.2 was available, so i unrooted (temp.)To get the new FOTA. Now im interested in a custom rom, (gingerbread-deck-evo). Im obviously new at all of this. So, tell me did i screw up?
Or can i still root with unrevoked since it was only a temp root for tether purposes?
Im a noob!

Well Melvin. Your screwed. Assuming you took the 2.3.3. OTA, since 2.2 dropped last year, there is no root for us. Welcome to the club...

We need a poll to see how many of us are out there waiting...
Now then I just looked at my firmware version and it shows Android 2.2 when I took the update it said FOTA 2.2 . If that's the case. And its 2.2 . Then I need to learn how to get a custom Rom and flash it, since I'm a noon and all.

well if in case you do have 2.2 Froyo then you're still in luck with the rooting option.
in most of our cases we were either dumb and did the OTA update to 2.3.3 or like myself got an upgrade from my LG Optimus S to the Evo 4g and BAMMMM 2.3.3 out of the box which blows.
on the other hand I have heard rumors that Google recalled the 2.3.3 updates and no the Evo's that havent updated wont receive the update yet and are still rootable.. Could it be that the reason to that is all the Talk about Google unrestricting the bootloaders?

It seems that the upgrade it is not confirmed by Motorola for the Xoom Family Edition, but only for the normal Xoom (same hardware!!!).
Given I bought one I'm not happy at all. I thought with the google participitation it was going to be updated at least for one year.It does not make any sense and it's against google android principles.
I also wrote to Engadget about the situation.
Reference:
See support motorola forum
If you own one or plan to buy one, please write to Motorola and Engadget about the upgrade. Maybe it will make Motorola change their mind!

Just for information, this guy has made the ICS ROM for Nexus S that works pretty well:

for those who keep asking about a xoom ics sdk port, i think i got something coming your way as well.

Cool, but the bootloader of the Family Edition is locked so it won't be possible to install ICS by ourselves.

125mb Update hitting Xoom FE
I just got an system update last night on the Xoom FE, unfortunately I cannot confirm if it is iCS. My Xoom FE was rooted by using the Dan Rosenberg exploit which seems to be preventing the update from successfully applying. So for those are rooted, let me know if anyone is having any luck with updates.

Its possible to update a rooted xoom fe. You can check the logs after a failed update. The updater checks for all orig system files and fails if not found. Easiest thing to do is restore /system from a backup. Also use ota rootkeeper to keep root after update. here's a good link to info and needed files.

AHHHHAAA! That makes sense, I did utilize root to remove the bloatware!!! Thanks so much, once I get home I'll check it out and see what I can do.
Just upgraded my wife's Xoom FE to ICS... I've been looking around for a root method for it, and all the ones I've found are for 1.004 and earlier... Any ideas anyone?

Development for the fe died an early death. If you didn't root and us ota rootkeeper before the update you are out of luck for now. And as far as I know there is no way to downgrade. Sorry/
