hello all
I found something funny
I've purchased myself a vibrant about 1 1/2 month ago
it was all nice, problems with gps as do many have, and besides it had few lags here and there..
I flashed bionix final along with upgraded rom of JAC
all is ok
still little lags here and there.
last week I purchased a vibrant for a friend...
took it to my hands to install him some apps, plus rooting the phone and etc...
his phone is with stock VJFD version (should be old by now, and that what also came on my phone)
his phone has totally no lags...
my score in quadrant for example is about 960
his score is about 880
his phone starts faster, reloads everything faster, shutsdown faster, and general feeling in the interface is that it is much faster.
is it possible by any way?
does it make sense that both phone act very differently?
my phone never felt as smooth as the newer phone does, even with updated rom+kernel
is it possible the hardware was changed along the way or something else is interfereing on my phone?
Rami
Some phones work better than others. I never had lag on the stock ROM and even though my GPS was slow to make an aquisition, it still worked.
If anything, JI6 broke my compass...which now goes haywire pointing in all sorts of directions when I am standing still
Hello all, first post here after reading for quite some time
I researched alot and decided to buy this phone because I concluded it was the best, performance, quality, resolution, etc
I have the phone for a week now and I don't feel happy with it, overall I see the phone is not really smooth, it frequently freezes for like 2 seconds when opening or closing an application, I was quite happy until before I installed some apps, like modern combat 3 and aftermath xhd, I can't install those via market because it says it's not compatible with my device, so I tried them out because I was too curious to see its performance, and I'm very disappointed...
modern combat 3 is unplayable, the menu is laggy, the game feels like its constantly loading something, it's choppy, I played only half of the first level because I couldn't go on anymore. Aftermath XHD was laggy at first, but now I'm at the sniper level and I had to give up, it's unplayable, when a shot is fired it lags so much it stops for like 3 seconds. I read all over the internet that those games run smooth on defys, so what's the problem here?
I'm at stock rom and kernel (N7000UBKK1, 2.6.35.8-N7000UBKK3, GINGERBREAD.UBKK3), I'm not really into flashing, but after reading over the games thread people saying it's smooth and working fine I think it's my only hope, if it doesn't fix it I guess my hardware would be faulty then.
I'm starting to think that the internal disk is the bottleneck, and I'm not sure if updating can turn a non-playable game smooth, so has any of you guys ever experienced this or been through this, can give some advice or based on your experience point out if it is possible to solve this problem?
thanks in advance

Hey, after using the Iphone 3gs since its release I must say Im impressed with both Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note BUT the random freezez and input lag that appears every now and then is just frekking annoying. Even with custom romz and different kernels this happens atleast 10 times everyday. As a techie guy I like the freedom that android gives me compared to the endless jailbreaking and ego behaviour by apple. However I'd say android devices must with the current hardware fix this type of problems since in the end user experience is the most important and If I spend 600 euros on a phone I'm sad to say that touchwise it still lacks a lot but after playing with it now for two weeks I have to say that I've gotten used to it. Samsung should stop pushing so many devices and focus on making the android software more stable, better touch input and reduce the frekking lag, dual core or not.
This forum is the best I've found and has everything a phablet nerd needs
Samsung Galaxy S2 - Stock Rom 2.3.5 with Launcher Pro (faster than the note with standard settings!!!!)
Samsung Galaxy Note - RocketRom V9 KKA 2.3.6 Launher Pro, CPu 1,6 mhz (still!! laggs sometimes)
Yeah, the Note is not polished enough yet. But don't lose faith - it will get better once we get ICS, shouldn't be that long. Right now it's up to you - you can improve it noticeably by flashing, tweaking and overclocking. I did that and I don't look back it ain't perfect but good enough for me.
KL3 soft + Abyssnote 2.5 kernel + OC (1650) + either lulzactive governor and vr scheduler (very responsive OS) or ondemandx gevernor and sio scheduler (smoother 3D games). These are settings that do the trick for me.

It's also not compatible with everyone else's device, and people are reporting the game runs fine, how so?
If your game data is in your external SD Card, that may well be the problem
Anyhow, the Note is a niche device with a flavor of early adopting, since it's the first phone with this big a screen (the streak was a tablet, if I'm not mistaken?) and because it's one of the three first with a HD resolution.
What does that mean? That many things that work flawlessly on lesser devices won't work here simply by lack of dev support. One example? The gameloft games, my favorites. None of them are officially supported, and I haven't managed to make them work unofficially.
One thing is for sure: Android required flashing, period. The Defy is crap without any flashing, so is the Atrix, and now the Note is. At the very least, put on the CWM recovery, which takes about 60 seconds of your time, and try the custom Kernel that is swimming lonely down in dev section that allows you an OC of 1.7ghz. See if that helps with the lagging.

Don't worry with this kind of responses, you'll get them here sometimes. This is XDA, forum 100% dedicated to tinkering with phones so who cares what's compatibile with what. Make it work and enjoy.
This game is about 1.4GB if it has been installed on your internal memory you will definitely run out and and your phone will struggle,go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Remove To SD card.
Just another boring witch hunt thread (yawn).
thanks a lot for the replies guys, you guys really helped a lot, I'm a lot more confident now and anxious to start flashing!
I got one question before starting the flashing process, is the JIG dongle for the S2 compatible with the note? I can't find the note JIG anywhere around here
I thought mw3 didn't work with the newest gingerbread yet.
Like the above poster said, try kl3. Little lag I had disappeared.
GALAXY NOTE
hello there
got my note 2 weeks ago and i noticed a weird slowness
not in games but in everyday use its really annoying
the it cant be hardware problem right?
i mean..how can it be that such strong hardware cant hold
this software?

Really strange 'cuz Note, even with stocks, is powerfull in terms of GPU and HW. Are you talking about its reactivity? Flashing other kernels and other ROMS you'd see the fastest device you can find right know, but I repeat, even with stocks I remember it was fast so it's too strange :banghead:

My one works great. It might be your phone... try returning?
My acted the same. On stock rom it was choppy and laggy.
Custom fw solved the issue.
Same here...
Quite laggy and slow on stock firmware once I filled it up with apps.
Custom solved that though. I used Rocket v22, (full wipe when went to that final version along with Abyss 4.0). I got some strange results though, v22 was laggy for me and Abyss 4.2 got me battery drain. Also, Abyss 4.0 sometimes had the tendency to overheat. AGAIN, this is opposed to what most users have reported, so...might just be my phone, the way I use it...I don't know.
I finally found bliss in DarkyRom, with Franco Kernel. Smooth gaming, no lag (yet). Also, I've found ICS Roms to be really really smooth, although I had to go back to GB due to some features missing in these betas.
Thanks guys
Well im wait'n to the ics update..
Does anyone have a clue when its gonna released ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-3
My only lag was in the Contacts,it usually took a long time to open, but a third party application solved it.
As for the ICS its better you check the sticky thread, the Moderater who is a bit temprimental guy could easily delete this thread as soon as he notices that word mentioned any other place than there.
However my personal opinion is that it wont come before the end of June.
Noticed this also. I am coming from an Epic 4G Touch and even completely stock that device was amazingly fast with everything. My Gnote was unbearably slow on the stock KK2 firmware and is a lot faster/smoother on LC1 with Franco Kernel 9. However still not as responsive/smooth as the Epic 4G Touch was for whatever reason.
I noticed that my Note is no as spritely as my old iPhone 4S.. I found after turning on it was better not to rush, pause for a split second and then everything is ok.
Thought so..
Im using startup auditor and now its much faster then before.
Hope that the update in june will fix the problems.. im kinda missing the 4s in teaems of camera quality but the overall performance are great.
too bad that the screen is Pentile based and not Plus..
Hope that the SGS3 will come out soon..
Thanks guys!

I've had my tab for almost a year and I always have the same issue with every single ROM. When I flash a ROM everything works great for a few hours but by the end of the day it gets soooo slow. It gets so slow web browsing is next to impossible. Scrolling web pages becomes painfully slow and even the most basic functions such as screen unlock and other basic UI slowdowns are driving me nuts. If I use recovery to wipe the cache & Dalvik cache things speed up quite a bit, while a factory reset or re-flash bring it back to where it should be for a few hours. Regardless, it always ends up slowing back down. I've used everything from Stock HC and stock ICS, Task650 ICS and HC, to CM9 and CM10 (to include AOKP and other CM based builds) and a few others with CPU speeds everywhere from stock to 1.4GHZ. I've also tried every kernel I've found to no avail. It runs great right after a flash which is why I find it hard to believe that my issue is simply "the Tegra 2 just sucks". Anyone else have similar issues or any insight?
Never man. I've had my tablet about the same amount of time. I've flashed a bunch and it's been great. I'm on Infamous2 with A1 1.6.4 and it flies. It almost does sound like something hardware related.

Yeah it's Bizarre. Never had any issue like this on my Vibrant or my new SGS3 but this thing has done this since day one. At first I thought it was the stock ROM and then when I flashed the super Alpha CM9 and it was fast for a few hours I thought It would improve as CM became nightlies.
I only ever had this problem on hc 3.1. Ever since 3.2 no more lagging or slow down. Even better with ics as well. Not really sure why yours is doing that.

I've been running Mimicry 1.5 for quite a while now (and very happy with it) but I'm interested in the Slim Bean thing; it looks pretty cool. I'm not clear on the advantages though (if any). Can someone fill me in?
Well we are talking jb vs ics for one, I would suggest making a nandroid and try it out, if you don't like it restore nandroid and the worse thing you can say is you wasted 20 min of your life...

I agree to the post above.
I've tried both roms and I prefered the SlimBean Rom It is very smooth and personally I've had some problems with mimicry. For me it is the best JB Rom I've ever tried
Good luck
I've been on mimicry (every release) since this new rom few days ago, and i didn't have so many problems with it: some casual hot reboots, or really little and stupid issues, same as slimbean, but we have to consider this is the first release.
There aren't big differences on usage between those roms ( except for OS features ofc); BUT, this rom i found it slim for real: smooth like mimicry at least, faster on response and better battery life.
So, i agree with the users above: if u liked mimicry take a nandroid backup, and give slimbean a shot!
Mimicry 1.5 is faster
you can try to install 15 same aplication on you phone and than you can see wich one is faster Mimicry 1.5 or slim bean
running right now slim bean,
was very happy at the beginning with all the features and the speed. But after restoring my backup (70 apps with mybackup-pro) the SlimBean Rom is getting sometimes really slow. Not always, but browser is sometimes not reacting or I get system FC or the phone is not waking up or apps are not responding.
With CM10.1 v21 I had installed 200+ Apps, the phone was a little bit slower but responding to all my actions and phone buttons.
Hopefully flinny integrates in v23 a few SlimBean features.
Tried slimbean but unfortunately I can't seem to get it to run smoothly - things start hanging and frequently memory seems very tight, even when I'm running nothing but the core gapps with it. Darn shame too, I'm quite fond of many of the look&feel updates.
I'm not altogether sure what I could do to tweak things further; I have system and data partitions formatted to ext4, made sure I did a full format/wipe, immediately did the switch to 240dpi before touching anything... I'm not quite sure how to tell what all's being loaded beyond looking at Running Apps, maybe I could trim things down if I fiddle with the "Performance" option in settings, but I don't know a lot about that. Seems odd that Play Music is running all the bloody time.
Mimicry 1.5 runs very smooth for me - Google+ and Facebook used to hog up memory but Greenify seems to have taken care of that.

Try limiting the number of background processes (under developer options) to 2; may be a total illusion, but I think it made things much better for me.

I'll give that a shot, thanks!
Hrm. Oddly, I've just noticed the Camera app is missing. I somewhat suspect (but haven't tested) that it might have been left out of 6.2, as one person in the Development thread mentioned it missing but others have not, and I'm guessing he loaded 6.2 straight up (as I have) and most folks upgraded from 6 to 6.2.
Is there a way to backup/restore one's Settings? I find that's the tedious part about reflashing - I bet there's a tool for it I'm just unfamiliar with.
i think there is an option in mybackup to save system-settings and restore them later. and i use nova-launcher, which allows me to save all the homescreens but without the widgets.

Ah ha. Fixed when I did a FORMAT of System and Data instead of just a wipe of them (using 4EXT Recovery Control). Another rookie mistake on my part...
I try a lot of roms, now I using SlimBean. Fast, modern and without big errors.
good question!
I wish to know too. I use to run mimicry, but since a few month I can't get tired of Venom viperZ. Since the 1.x version, I have absolutely NO issue.
The 2.0 is really fast and usable.
I"ll maybe try slimbean if there's so much good review on that one.
Just for an update from myself, I tried SlimBean 6.2 and ended up having a significant slowdown issue after several days; long pauses on most items and Google Search in particular became so slow as to be unusable. Oddly there was also a significant delay when starting up the Torch from the widget, which happens to be one of my most-used functions of the phone. 6.2 also uses Hangouts rather than Talk, and my hatred for Hangouts still burns like an unquenchable fire. Still, looking at the slimbean.net site the torch issue at least seems to have been fixed, so if blk_jack is kind enough to bless us with a new SlimBean ROM I'll probably try it again.
I have been using Flinny's CM10.1 Andromadus test build 24 for several days now but I am starting to see a slowdown there too occasionally, again especially with Google Search. Generally though I'm very fond of it, good chunk of free memory most times and it even runs Ingress pretty well, which is the one game/app I run that pushes my phone to its very limits.
I noticed someone mention "kbeezie's data swap mod" in the SlimBean thread and plan to investigate that when I have time, though I suspect I may need something faster than my class 4 32gb card (class 10 ones are pretty cheap now, but I'm somewhat poor, so).
I'm not gonna cry if I have to go back to Mimicry 1.5, which still has my love, even if the new JB builds are shiny and have some pretty cool UI enhancements.

welcome to android world.
I never seen any android rom that keep his original speed after a while of use.
even on recent devices, such as s3. You should reflash the rom.zip every time your rom is going laggy.
