Not any one thing in particular, but just overall it "feels" unresponsive? I have the OTA update before it was suspended.
Am I the only one noticing this?
Also has anyone been able to actually use the new Calculator? That thing doesn't register button presses to any form of practicality for me.
I'm just wondering if there are steps to fix this, or if this is how ICS is on the Nexus S. I'd rather go back to GB if that was the case.
I haven't noticed any unresponsiveness issues, to be honest. Although I had the phone just for a short while before the ICS update came out. So I didn't have much time to get accustomed to GB in order to be able to compare them accurately.
I had some random crashes, but last night I did a factory reset and it solved those issues for me. I'm using the calculator on a regular basis, no issues there.

Because gb was made just for this phone. Every other phone just runs it, wasn't tailored for them.
Now ics was made just for the gnex. Same as all nexus phones.
Gb was made for the hummingbird. Etc etc...

Everything is working up to par on my end.
It is fast, but GB was faster overall. Not sure even "faster" is the better word. Perhaps "snappier" is more appropriate.
You can notice it in the small things... Opening an app, scrolling in some menus, etc.

Browser experience is best ever!! Changing tabs is fast and very cool with the zooming animations
I say overall, it's feeling even faster than gingerbread.
Even with the battery issues, I'm not downgrading.
No problem here. Pretty smooth and snappy. Of course I flashed a custom kernel, OC and all the mod goodies. All help my phone snappier. I also recommend spare a buck and buy Autostarts app from the Market, if your phone is rooted.

Runs very smooth here. Stock ICS 4.0.3 on i9023 ;-)
The experience overall is very smooth. The browser has a few quirks here and there with some websites, but overall its much better than the GB browser. The only place where I feel the phone struggles is opening the app drawer. It's like waiting for one of the older automatic cars to gear shift when u put the pedal to the metal.
My only problem is the frame-rate in ICS. Just swiping over home screens seems limited to 30 fps (definitely below 60).

flashed the 4.0.3 stock plus the Glados v2.3 kernel (deep idle is a beast, rly...) and my NS is faster than ever. I'd never return to gb.
battery power ends in about a day if I use the phone intensively (internet, wifi, 3g, some games, music and so on...) but in a daily use (some sms, facebook news, email reading, etc) I'm experiencing no "battery drain problems" at all. charged 2 nights ago, still at 68% right now... (probably because the kernel, tho...)
edit: i forgot to mention that I'm running 110% live OC w/stock voltages and get no reboots or similar hellish-noobish things
Mine seems quicker and more responsive than ever I'm happy to say.
No lags or any problems with ICS stock rom. Also some of the best battery life for a long time.

Absolutely no,
I formerly used CM7.1 and then installed ICS in the cleanest possible way (wiped everything, went to 2.3.3, updated to latest Gingerbread, wiped everything installed ICS from the zip file)
It works alot better, it feels much smoother, web browser was improved alot.
I can use the calculator properly and it works better than in GB, maybe its a random matter that some people face.
In my case , ICS >> GB. feels as if I got a new phone.
I love ICS on the Nexus S, no sluggishness at all. Custom roms seem to be very buggy and slow. I'm running it strait stock with no problems at all.

I figured it was just the bloated Samsung skin that caused it so I instantly rooted it and installed CM9 4.0.4. However, that doesn't seem to have helped much.
I've found that even just typing an email in Gmail causes the onscreen keyboard to become extremely slow after typing the first paragraph, to the point where I have to close out of Gmail and re-open it in order to get it to respond correctly again.
Is there something I'm missing here? Shouldn't this thing be much snappier than my Galaxy Nexus? Is there another ROM I should be using?
The two Rom's I like right now on mine are either the Galaxy Task or Clean Rom.
You could also try AOKP, that seemed to do pretty well on mine too.
Tegra 2 (or Tegra in general) just blows. At least for a device this size.
Have you tried using different keyboards? If not, it might be an idea to download and experiment with some to find if any resolve the lag issue. Just an idea.

While tegra 2 isn't great, it shouldn't have problems with ICS. Even on a mostly stock honeycomb build, my tab is running pretty smoothly without overclocking. Except for the rare scrolling hiccup. Most likely the build isn't optimized well enough, and CM9 nightlies are still alpha builds at best. I would suggest either flashing a more stable debloated honeycomb build or waiting for at least an RC version of CM9.
I feel the same way, it's so slow its going backwards. I have almost stopped using it all together because it's a pain to use xd

I have ICS AOKP installed on my GT-p7510 and I gotta say, it's pretty fast. Except from not having a working camera driver, there's nothing to complain about.

Why would you ever think this tablet would be snappier than the Gnex? The Gnex is newer and has a newer and faster processor, with newer, more optimized software.
I don't get why you would think a tablet produced in May/June of last year would be somehow snappier than a device produced in October/November.
While I haven't found the tablet to have the same problems you described, I have to say I'm not very impressed with the Tab's performance. But we shouldn't be so quick to judge ICS; the drivers are community written so I wasn't expecting a lot out of them. ICS ROMs are smooth but there's always some sort of thing that pisses me off, or something that sparks a lagfest. Honeycomb ROMs seem to be a lot smoother. But I seem to notice a slice of laglaglag when the tablet is in portrait. Not that I use it in portrait, but still.
Games were a lagfest in both ICS and Honeycomb, the graphics looked pretty good but what use was it when the games are running at 10FPS? The only thing I can really say I like about this tablet is everything it's not supposed to do; run Ubuntu, both inside Android, and a native install of Ubuntu with Android removed. I like playing PS1 games on it too, something that crappy iPad couldn't do.
Another thing; tablet apps. Developers seem to ignore tablet users. Most apps I've used made me feel like my tablet was a big ass phone, and I've seen this complaint a lot.
But I gotta say I really regret not waiting. I wanted to go for the Transformer Prime but didn't want to wait. I regret letting my lack of patience get the best of me.
I hope you actually flashed a rom after flashing CWM or else there's obviously going to be no difference. I somehow have never experienced issues on my end. Everything is fast for me, with either a stock rooted/unrooted rom or a custom rom. And if you couldnt see a difference between Honeycomb and ICS on your tablet, then something must be wrong. Even with the small glitches and bugs, it's very fast. Maybe you should overclock as well.
same here- galaxy task10 is very smooth - couple it with ADW and it is very very snappy - ICS gives me a little bit more snap - so not sure what standards the OP is referencing since i also have Gnex and it does not feel any faster than my current tab

Agreed with the previous 2 posters. I have used cyanogen, and am currently using task 14. While I too am wishing I had waited and bought the transformer (for other reasons), I am very happy with the responsiveness of my tab. Task 14 is, for me, a very smooth take on honeycomb. Add in some of boosted's themes for that ICS look, and I am quite content.

Also, does anyone else notice that on cm9 games feel like they have a lower frame rate than honeycomb, I was comparing games like mine craft on cm9 compared to my friends stock gtab10.1 and his stock 3.2 had a much higher frame rate, does anyone worse find this the case please?

If I'm sick of lags I just overclock to 1400 and change the governor to performance.
Unfortunately I usually end up slowing that down when my battery drains in approximately 15 seconds...

I also notice the Galaxy tab 10.1 is laggy.
I own an Asus transformer prime and the missus owns the galaxy tab, and its true that out of the box the asus is much much faster, mostly on the home screens. I had attributed this as a difference between HC 3.2 and ICS, we shall see.
However,
I cant mention enough just how vastly superior the wifi is on the galaxy tab. The difference is night and day. Oh it works on the asus alright (I have the latest serial version), but it seems to be very patchy. After an hour of using the browser on my TF prime and then picking up the galaxy tab the connection feels so much more solid and responsive and using the tab comes as something of a relief.
Thing is, it doesnt really matter what the specs are on paper, all I really care about is responsiveness of a good looking UI and good wifi. I feel that the tf prime is going to need a hard mod to sort out the wifi, which i will not do. On the other hand, I feel that a software update on the tab could sort out some of its lag issues, which would make the tab more useful in my household for our needs.

Well a combination of ICS and a quad-core processor will blow away the Galaxy Tab without question.
stock = sucks
stock + swype keyboard = sucks ^2
In my case I flashed Gtask rom or overcome with pershoot kernel and keep avoiding swype.. and everything runs like silk now.

I'm not intersted in Quadrant or Antutu scores. I'm just curious if after upgrading to stock Samsung ICS you actually notice speed improvements on your note.
Meaning, does switching between screens seem faster? Does moving around the phone feel slower? Things of that nature. Now that the hardware GPU is actually being used can you see/feel the difference?

I can't recall whether the app drawer and screens scroll better but one thing is for certain, web browsing and scrolling through the market is hugely improved.
Messaging is also less laggy and more responsive, the S Memo has been improved a great deal.
It's a good update but I wouldn't be shocked to see another incremental update to polish it off.
For me it seems more laggy and drains battery faster. Few apps crashed as well. I'm sure sammy will release few more updates but I'm not too thrilled for this release. I have heard people bricking their phone & missing key feature apps for premium suite (MyStory and s-note) with this update too, feels like Samsung did half ass job on it.

The areas that it is definitely faster for me are:
1. Coming out of the lock screen
2. Pulling down and pushing back up the notification bar.
3. In ADW EX, pinching to zoom in and out of the homescreens and homescreen previews is smooth now, It used to be pretty stuttered in LC2.
4. Music apps that require touch input to trigger sounds eg. Solo, TheDrum, Grand Piano. There is noticeably less latency between touching the screen and hearing the sounds.

First off all, the N-7000 didn't move officially to Ics yet, since we're all still waiting for the first Samsung stock leak.
Now what you see, are some AOSP, AOKP and CM roms based on Ics 4.0.4. They are more than ready for daily use, stable, but surely missing some Nice features like SPen....
On this forum, there is one leak from Samsung, witch is making Success, a chineese Ics leak, that is originally for the GT-9220, A Galaxy note released in the china, but not with the same processor, thus making the leak not compatible with the N-7000.
Super Devs like Chainfire, maxicett, Alba and others, took this and made it usefull for us!
Some says that it's risky, but believe me, I'm on the maxicet's one " TheMidTeam", and for me is the Best so far!
All the Samsung features are present, The rom is smooth, super fast, stable, and the Best is yet to come, once we'll have our own N-7000 Ics Samsung leak : let's say this Q of the year.
Once said, my freind : make your backup and choose one of the aboves Ics.
Just follow every step the Dev says, and you are set!

I think you will find that ics is out for the note... have a look at the rest of the forums. Released ota in Germany.

All the ICS ROMs I've tried were snappier than GB in general.
Installed it yesterday. Cannot really say it is noticably faster at this point. I have noticed the browser is faster and has many more settings. I have not had any issues and think it is a nice upgrade. It is certainly not slower.
For me its made a massive difference, everything loads instantly now, totally impressed how much so, never thought it would make that much difference.
My note started slower than with GB. Some FC, unable to use the camera, for example, as it frozes. But after some use, things are getting better.
I feel like apps data needs to be updated somehow, so with the use of every application it's getting better.
Anyway, I'm a bit "disappointed". I felt a higher improvement when installed ICS on my Desire HD, so I thing I expected in some way that Note will have a great improvement too. And yes it's better (now, with the use), but not so much as expected.
Maybe is just because with GB my note was already nearly perfect

Initial releases are usually buggy and it seems that it's the case here.
What I can put it down to is whether or not ICS was installed after a full wipe as it appears that those who did it this way don't have the problems you mention above.
I also got it from kies as I was on stock LC1 (DBT) and have these annoying problems so if it continues I will either wait for an update from sammy (anyones guess when this might happen) or wipe then flash the new ICS.
when i first installed it was fast, now that i did a hard reset its insanely fast!!! i am very pleased with the update

I updated kies on my computer and plugged in my GNote. I have an DBT unlocked version I bought on Amazon in December. It updated just fine.

Yeah it's probably best to start with a clean slate. When you've got all kinds of data from GB floating around while using ics stuff can get borked and whatnot.

ICS in general is ok but I'm having issues with bluetooth. It regularly loses connection with my Nissan Connect car system. Also before on GB when streaming music over bluetooth the car unit would show the name of the track playing, on ICS it doesn't.
The exact same thing happened when I updated my Galaxy S2 to ICS. I want to try another brand phone, maybe HTC, thats running ICS to see if it is a problem with ICS or my Nissan Connect system.
As I wasn't having any serious issues on GB I reverting back until the bluetooth problem is sorted.
I've had my tab for almost a year and I always have the same issue with every single ROM. When I flash a ROM everything works great for a few hours but by the end of the day it gets soooo slow. It gets so slow web browsing is next to impossible. Scrolling web pages becomes painfully slow and even the most basic functions such as screen unlock and other basic UI slowdowns are driving me nuts. If I use recovery to wipe the cache & Dalvik cache things speed up quite a bit, while a factory reset or re-flash bring it back to where it should be for a few hours. Regardless, it always ends up slowing back down. I've used everything from Stock HC and stock ICS, Task650 ICS and HC, to CM9 and CM10 (to include AOKP and other CM based builds) and a few others with CPU speeds everywhere from stock to 1.4GHZ. I've also tried every kernel I've found to no avail. It runs great right after a flash which is why I find it hard to believe that my issue is simply "the Tegra 2 just sucks". Anyone else have similar issues or any insight?
Never man. I've had my tablet about the same amount of time. I've flashed a bunch and it's been great. I'm on Infamous2 with A1 1.6.4 and it flies. It almost does sound like something hardware related.

Yeah it's Bizarre. Never had any issue like this on my Vibrant or my new SGS3 but this thing has done this since day one. At first I thought it was the stock ROM and then when I flashed the super Alpha CM9 and it was fast for a few hours I thought It would improve as CM became nightlies.
I only ever had this problem on hc 3.1. Ever since 3.2 no more lagging or slow down. Even better with ics as well. Not really sure why yours is doing that.

Seriously, it's like treacle! I'm about ready to root and install gingerbread.
Dialler takes forever to come up, when I tap the search button it takes many seconds for the keyboard to appear.
No-one else seems to mention this problem?
I have very few apps installed, and certainly no bloatware like task killers, etc.
No, you aren't the only one. Our phone is just a bit too old. All we can do now is bear with it until we upgrade.

Jelly bean is slow as **** for me. I guess most of the people just can't notice that jb's animations and reaction time when touching the screen is just delayed.
I've been frustrated with my nexus not acting fast untill i tried one combination. I'm i9023 user and this combo is just perfect for my phone. No input lag whatsoever, no animation lag, everything is just fast and instantly responsive. Give it a try and tell me what you think.

Use it with apex launcher, because trebuchet may lag when opening app drawer. To avoid dialler lag, i suggest using exdialer, it's downloadable from the market.
Please try that and let me know if I'm the only one who sees the difference
Even the keyboard is just faster than on jb. Scrolling, switching between windows, statusbar is more responsive. Try and tell me what you think.
Sometime I wonder how come poeple say jelly bean is faster than ics. First impressions are good, but after very short time of usage jelly bean is full of slow ****. Every rom based on jb is just slower than this combo.

Nope. No problems here. Phone is fast and stable, although a little struggling with battery life, but like I said before somewhere in these forums, life is full of tradeoffs.
Yes this thing is slow. Its actually kept me from being involved with the phone. I don't add different ROMs or anything anymore because they all feel to heavy for this phone.
I'm just counting down the days until the next Nexus is released.

I can assure it is definitely much faster than the stock ICS or jellybean ROMs. If you have been using the stock Nexus S ROMS, you will see noticeable difference in the colours. They are much better on this Xperia ROM and does not have that yellow shade. I love the ROM and believe me I have tried almost every ROM available on XDA for for Nexus S.
Though there are 2 issues, for which I haven't found any solution, it blocks the calls coming from unknown numbers and you do not even see a missed call. And you can't use the default screen locks. But apart from these, the ROM is rock solid, never crashes or hangs, everything works fine and it is ultra smooth.
If you think your phone is running slow, I highly recommend this ROM. Everyone should give this ROM at least a try.

I don't really notice a difference speedwise between ICS and JB. They are both a little slower than GB was, but not unbearable. The added features of ICS/JB are well worth it IMO.
Overclocking a little bit can help, although it can hurt battery performance a bit.

Agreed. Current combo keeps up with wife's combo. Don't know what the OP is talking about. See sig for both setups.
I agree with jellybean being kinda slow. However, i dont know if it's just the rom's were installing on our device, cause i kinda remember stock JB being pretty fluid which is kinda making wanna go back to stock again
GB was stale, solid, and best battery life.
I miss having a flashlight app that worked and better battery life.
ICS and JB have been ok up until I started having power button issues last week.
JRO03L update seems to have fixed the majority of freezes, crashes, and power button issue.
After the reality has set in, I would have stick with GB
no problems here. aokp jb build 2 and beladus marmite 4.4 kernel combo is running smooth on mine.

Are you implying that every end-user of android phones should learn to root or install custom roms/kernel to get a DECENT experience? While I'm content to see Google supporting a device almost 2 years after its release (Apple does that as well btw), I'm kind of feeling disgusted about the overall user experience, laggyness, crashes, random reboots and decreased battery life. I wish Google released a FINISHED product/operating system and not leave its customers in a sort of beta-testing fog.
I'd suggest backing up your data and wipe your whole device like a madman. Format.
And start from scratch with the rom of your choice

Memory management is the problem...
I think the problem has to do with the way memory is managed in ICS/JB... I still can't find found a recent ROM that will keep the launcher in memory no matter what. That's terrible for user experience! None of the task or memory manager apps in the Google Play Store seem to help either.

^ this. I was having a bad experience with JB as well until I formatted my sdcard. And I'm not talking about wiping from CWM. I'm talking about mounting it as USB storage and formatting from a PC.
