SD cards not recognized on my new HD2 - HD2 General

Hi everyone
Bought my HD2 a couople of weeks ago. Since I recieved I have not been able to mount my sd cards. I have 2 8gb adata ones both class 6 and one 8gb bought from **** smith electronics (a class 4).
I have tried formatting with SDformatter from the sd association and with EASEUS partition master. Both don't seem to have any effect on my hd2 mounting the cards.
The funny thing is though when I use magdlr and use the usb mass storage function with the sd card in, on my pc it recognizes the mass storage and I can copy files to the sd card and then put the sd card in a card reader and the files are there.
I have tried mounting the sd card in a couple of nand android builds and the official windows 6.5 rom for LEO but to no avail. Phone still does not recognize sd card.
Any help or ideas on what I can do? Really want to have wp7 with 720p video recording

I'm sure you know this but on the cm7 builds I use when you connect USB you have to jump to pull down notification screen, tap USB connected and then tap "turn on USB storage " before it shows up to your PC.

have you installed automount from the market?

Yes I did try automount but that didn't work. I am just hoping that it is not a hardware fault. But the usb mass storage feature in magdlr worked for copying files to the sd card

be alittle carefull with the magldr mount, it doesnt handle larger files well apparently. cwm has a mount option that works well.

I am having this kind of problem too and bought a card from austrailia. problem is my HD 2 reads my 2 gb card but when i pop a 16 gb , it freezes. On my pc however it reads the card and i can store data
Formatted the thing and no effect. would love some advice as well. It is a class 2

[Q] Security SD problem

I think WP7 sort of damage my sd card, in fact is not completely damage, it works on android and on my digital cameras even on a blackberry, also in the sd slot on my laptop, but does not work as a usb device with a card reader, or with the phone in android with massive device on magldr usb storage option. I tried on the laptop, on an xbox 360 on my tv that also have usb port and doesn’t work,
I tried to format, delete partitions, reformat in the camera and in the SD slot, tried with easeus and paragon pm, even with the sd formatter from Panasonic 2.0 and 3.0.
Only works on a “certify SD device ” if this thing exist like phones camera or a dedicated SD reader.
What I did was turn off the phone in WP7 and in MAGLDR I chooses to work as a usb storage (at this time it worked) and with easeus I delete the partitions and create 2 new partition one fat 32 and the other ext2 (wanted to install android on the SD). The problem was that I boot again and let WP7 to boot without doing a hard resert, an since then the SD card have thios strange behavior.
I think that WP7 activate the security of the SD card and for that reason does not work as a usb mass device any more.
If any of you have any advice that can help me recover the normal use of my card I will certainly appreciate it.
I create a new thread because I think that is different than the way to format the card to flash android and wanted to warning you all… but if you think that is the same please close it

USB Mass Storage is not working after dual boot wp7 and android

USB Mass Storage is not working after dual boot wp7 and android when i am booting android 'Cope's SD HD2 Gingerbread'.
i have used this method to partition sd card to run wp7 and android from same sd card
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-cUdB4_5f4.
There is no problems during using wp7 but the USB Mass Storage is not worked during using android. HD2 can't read the SD card. the SD card is unavailable.
Can it be solved??? Anyone can help me??
Since you're running Android from your SD card, this shouldn't really come as a surprise. Some SD ROMs have semi-USB mass storage, but still this often doesn't work as desired. I advise to either use WiFi file transferring, or booting WP7 when USB storage is required.
it is able to find data in sd card by using file manager but the gallery is not worked. It can't show the video and picture which are placed in sd card .
It may be because the SD card is partitioned, as you mentioned. I never had a problem connecting to the phone as a USB drive when I used SD cards.
It may also be a faulty build. With it being a gingerbread build, I think it may be that as I couldn't connect USB mass storage using gingerbread, and that was a NAND build!
Do you have another SD card you could try the same build with?
Okay, that's another story. Mass USB storage refers to using your computer to transfer files on your SD card.
It really seems like something went wrong with the partitioning, you probably made a mistake somewhere in the process (or the video is wrong, in which case there would be a lot of complaints, check that first). Format your SD card and try again!
Edit: John, he's not really referring to USB mass storage. Android just can't mount his SD card, which probably means the partitioning (which is different on WP7) is f*ed up?
This problem and the solution is stated many times in the sticky thread about partitioning the sd card in the sd dev section. You have to use minitool partition manager and change the wp7 partition from logical to primary. That will solve the problem of android not mounting the sd card. Takes about 2 minute. I'll even attach minitool for you.
thanks a lot . i will try it . thank you

[Q] SD card problem after installing Energy android rom

I have updated HD2 from Energy Windows Mobile 6.5 to Energy Android 3.5.
While installing the new OS I noticed that my SD card wasn't working right. After installing aMAGLRD 1.13 and using it to copy necessary ZIP file that it took me a few times to correctly to coppy the file on SD.
After installing my Android OS and the nrunning it I noticed that I am being displayed an error saying "Damaged SD Card".
Now, I thought to just format the SD card by using the Mass Storage Device which should be visible from Choos a connection type but I only see Charge Only, HTC Sync, USB Tethering, and Internet pass-throught. No Mass storage device.
Anyway, how else I could fix my SD card or how to get the Mass Storage Card option?
I can not make any promises but you can boot into MAGLDR and then choose opt ion number 4 of the main menu. This is the USB Mass Storage option in MAGLDR, but know this do this at your own risk as this option in MAGLDR works for transfering files but is slower than the in ROM USB Mass Storage option, and the connection is not a stable connection.
Your other option is to get you a micro SD cars adaptor or reader that you can plug into your computer via USB. I actually recommend you do this as you probably need to do a low level format and I do not suggest you use your phones micro SD card reader to do this.
This is probably too long but, I have used the Mass Storage thing from MDR.. idk... and I have copied and installed my android 4 OS. It seems nice, but the problem is when I launch android.
The 16gb card with adapter isnt supported by my card reader as it seems eather.
So I bought a new card for 15 some dollars and I'm happy now.
But what could cause my SD problem?

No SD Card detected however .. (please help)

Hi,
(Strange problem - OS does not detect SD Card however Bootloader does and loads ROM from SD Card)
I have a strange problem from this morning. I had WP7 mango installed which was working pretty ok apart from a few restarts if the bottom part of phone got warm/hot, so I kept it in from of AC (This idea usually works with HD2)
This morning, WP7 gave an error saying it can not detect the 16 GIG SD Card, I reformatted SD Card using Nokia phone/FAT32 and re-installed WP7 however it gave a message saying No Storage Card present.
I have also tried installing WM6.5 but that too doesnt not detect SD Card.
On top of above, strange thing is that I have installed 3 different version on WM6.5 stock ROM using SD Card method (pressing VolDn methos while powering phone up to boot load ROM from SD Card) and it works perfectly fine however the OS does not detect SD Card.
Has any body faced this problem and have a solution?
Or does any body know of a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Ash.

further to add, i have tried 2 sd cards 4gb and 16 gb. WM6.5 says no SD Card present however the WM6.5 and all of software (ROM, Radio, Splash etc) were loaded/installed using LEOIMG.nbh on 16gb SD Card.
I have searched the forum as well as other sites, and have tried re-formatting sd card as well to no luck.
Please help, if you have any idea of whats wrong.
Cheers,
Ash

We're all too surprised you managed to flash using a 16gb SD card.,,, normally anything 8gb or larger won't flash nbh files, so your problem is pretty strange.
I lost the shipped 8GB SD card more than year back and since then I am using 16GB SD card with HD2 and it worked perfectly.
Does OS like WP7/WM6.5 uses mount in some way to have card and contents available? If so, can it be mounted using MAGLDR or CWM, since the bootloader which IPL can read the SD Card.
Cheers,
Ash
indeed this is a baffling problem. can't think of conclusive reasons why the tri-color bootloader can see the sd card but OS (WM6.5, WP7, Android) cannot!
i am assuming you have just ONE partition on the sd card...? can you check and tell us the format of the filesystem, i.e. FAT or FAT32...? i think FAT isn't even possible on a 16GB card...it will likely be formatted as FAT32, but lets check to be sure.
Hi ASCIIker,
Many thanks for your response, the SD Card is FAT32 formatted. I have tried both 4gb and 16gb cards but WM6.5 says No Card found.
See screen shots attached. I have also attached screen shot of version showing Stock ROM flashed earlier today using SD Card.
I am not too sure, could it be some thing like mounting of SD Card under these OS's or under SPL which is not able to mount these SD Cards,
The problem started when phone was running WP7 Mango 8107 but it used to crash if it got hot and re-boot on its own, may e one of those automatic re-boots, the OS unmounted Sd card. When I looked at it in the morning, it was showing an error message of no storage card present and the options available were emergency call and shut down. I tried re-booting it 1-2 times and it still showed same message and then I tried loading WM6.5 from SD Card using LEOIMG.nbh which worked and left me confused.
I have also tried USB Mass Storage option of MAGLDR 1.13 however that doesn't work either.
I have never used CLk but I can try that if there is a way to access SD Card using USB with it.
Any suggestions for reviving it back are welcome.
Cheers,
Ash

It is worth a shot but i suspect you it still will not detect the SD card. Just click on the HD2 guide in my sig and scroll down to post #3 and look for the section "Updated version of clk with CWM built in" and click on the link that takes you to the download of that version. Then the bottom of post #1 and read the section "Flashing cLK via SD card". This will have clk with Clockwork Mod installed on your device. Then boot your device and hold down the home button at the same time, this will boot you into CWM and theb select "Mounts and storage" then select"mount USB storage". If you do not see the contents of your SD card on your computer then it is not working. Make sure to try "install zip from sdcard" as well. Just see if it reads the SD card that way.
Also I take it from your posts that you have tried otion #4 USB Mass storage in MAGLDR. So like I said I doubt CWM will see it in mass storage either.
Seeing as WP7 uses the SD card for the internal memory and is constantly using the SD card reader on the device at high speeds. It may just be a case of the SD card reader not being operable with the OS anymore. I mean it has to work at a certain speed level I think for the OS to be able to use it, and maybe the bootloader does not require that same speed. Or it may just be a case of the reader not being able to mount the SD card as read and write both still so it just will not mount it. Like I said these are just shots in the dark. But if it is a problem with it mounting in either read or write it could cause this problem I beleive.
Hi T-Macgnolia, thank you for this detailed reply. I was able to install CLK using SD Card method however it does not recognize SD Card nor does it mount it. It shows an error message - see attached screen shot.
I was wondering if a faster SD Card like Class 6 8 GB would make any difference to current state.
Cheers,
Ash

if you're getting the same behaviour with all your cards, then its likely to be a problem with the phone, and messing with this class of that sized card is probably a dead end. (thats not to say you shouldnt try if you have cards available, of course!)
To my mind its gotta be one of two things
1 - some problem with the sd controller, that is allowing low level access to the card, so flashing works, but not allowing the higher level drivers full speed access to the card, in much the same way that a PC accesses the hard disk much faster during a normal boot than it does with a 'safe mode' boot.
2 - a virus/glitch/witchcraft/wp7/other has corrupted all your sd cards in some fashion.
Just guesses, of course.
Good luck.

I agree with Samsamuel completely, it seemsit is something wrong with the SD card reader/controller that is not letting it read the SD card at a higher speed. Or something really strange and funky has happened to all of your SD cards. But I feel it is the first thing and not the later. If you want to try another SD card, as odd as it sounds, I suggest you try a lower class SD card like a class 2 if you can find on. But then again you may already have one and already tried it I do not know. One thing for sure it seems like a hardware issue and not a software or faulty SD card issue.
I had this exact same problem, in the end I ended up going back to original leo Winmo 6.5, then starting over with HSPL - Magldr - CWM - Android (though I guess WP7 will work too).
I don't know what caused the problem, I just put all these anomalies down to the bad nand blocks on my device.
I'll also note that mass storage in Magldr has never worked for me and still doesn't, the drive mounts but crashes on transfer of any files, but within CWM and Android it works now.
If you have exhausted all other options and have not already tried this then it maybe worth a shot. Good luck.
Thanks michael-jb,
I have tried all these options. I have tried installing different WP7 again though, which I will do tomorrow or day after.

Ash

[FIX] sandisk 64gb micro sd card

Like alot of you, I recently had alot of trouble with my sandisk 64gb micro sd card. this fix is pretty easy but it worked for me! so check it out:
you need two programs: SD formatter( can be found on the sandisk website) and easeus partiton master( you can use any program that lets you format partitions)
you will also need the sd card adapter to put you micro in, and an sd card reader
Step 1: connect your sandisk 64gb microsd card to the computer with the adapter it came with in the box. My laptop has the sd card reader built in
I dont think it will work unless you connect it this way.
Step 2: open sd formatter, it should have recognized your card if not click refresh. after its recognized click Options and set format type to full (overwrite) format the sd card. this will take a long while so you might wanna go watch tv or something?
step 3 : after its done formatting open partition master and right click on the sd card and format it to fat32. your going to have to click apply on the top right hand corner for it to work
you should be set. DONT FORMAT IN THE ANDRIOD SETTINGS. for some reason when ever i fixed the micro and tried formatting it in my phone it would mess up everything thing again.
I keep a 32 gb in my s4 now and use my 64 in my note 10.1 because i need the space there more. Let me know if this works for you!

It really depends on the troubles you have, most of them are some kind of incompatibility with the S4 firmware and the 64GB SD card and formating this will not help. My issue was each time i'd put music on my SD, my system status would trip to custom, also my music would not always show up at boot. This has been a recurring problem with the sandisk cards no matter how i formated it. And yes, i did use SDFormater 4.0 and still had the issue. My only solution was to get a Samsung 64GB SD and no issues since
Sometimes mine removes itself, but a media rescan or reboot fixes it. Doesn't really bother me.
I use a 64gb PNY class10 and its flawless for me.I think the issue is witg the sandisk bran.

Figured this is a good thread to post my experience.
I had a MicroSD card I thought was bad. What happened was I was formatting the device to ext4 at the time using a older microSD USB adapter i had. Basically, the microSD card reader died while it was in that process. Using a microSD > SDAdater and a built in SD card slot on my laptop I was unable to format the drive in Windows or MacOS. (I was formatting the device via the USB reader on my Desktop in Ubuntu). Ubuntu does not see my card reader on my laptop so I was unable to use that). I thought I killed it. It was a SanDisk microSDXC 64gb card.
So I ordered a new Samsung microSDXC and a new microSDXC USB card reader. I got them both. New card worked great. I decided to play with the card a bit. Using Ubuntu, gparted specifically, with the new adapter I could no create or modify partitions on the old microSD card. It would fail out every time, different errors for ext4, exFAT and Fat32. So. In Gparted I went to Device > Write new partition table. After I did that I would able to format the drive in Ubuntu to whatever filesystem I wanted, and the card works in the phone, mac, windows, everything.
Just a heads up to help any others with issues. Rewriting the partition table may help if somehow it gets corrupt because of some write fail,
I ve 2 64gb sandisk 10x microsd with Samsung S4 I9005 with Android 4.3. I formatted with android, also Windows 7 64bit with various types of sizes on laptop. However on laptop or on phone after writing some files and disk scanning, it gives many disk errors. I wonder if it is software or microsd hardware problems. There is no problem with 32 gb.

Found the Culprit!
Considering I encountered this write protect error TWICE with the exact same product, and after having read forums that show it's a common problem, I conclude that the problem is with either this specific SanDisk product or a particular batch of this product:
Exact product specs: SanDisk Ultra 64 GB MicroSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter (SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A)
These carry a lifetime warranty. A word of advice: if you go for a replacement, ask for a different 64GB model, or try a different size of the same model (I got 2 x 32GB cards instead). If they insist on giving back the exact same model, I'd suggest you use that card anywhere except a smartphone!
