Motorola has managed to come up with a very good concept. Its essentially a very powerful phone, which can be converted into a PC or a netbook. This will provide a serious competition to the iPhone4 and also provide a single device which can double up as a PC or a netbook.
It has two docks which are optional accessories
* The Motorola HD Multimedia Dock has three USB ports and an HDMI port enabling connections to a keyboard, mouse, speakers and HDMI-compatible monitor for working at your desk/office, or connecting to an HDMI-compatible television and home theater audio system for interacting with content and enjoying video, music, games and more in your living room.
The Motorola Laptop Dock has an incredibly thin design with an 11.6-inch screen, full keyboard, stereo speakers, 36Wh three-cell battery that delivers up to eight hours of battery life and weighs just 2.4 pounds. Users simply dock their Motorola ATRIX 4G into the back of the Laptop Dock to turn it into an active, connected machine to experience true mobility at work, home and playing on-the-go in a form factor that’s lighter and smaller than most laptops on the market.
Deathmatch: Email, calendars, and contacts
For testing, I used a personal IMAP account, a personal POP account, a personal Gmail account, and a work Exchange 2007 account. Both devices work directly with IMAP and Gmail, as well as with POP; my email, email folders, calendars, and contacts all flowed effortlessly among the smartphones, my laptop, and the server.
Both devices try to autodetect your settings wherever possible, but the Atrix was typically unsuccessful. In manual mode, I spent hours trying to get it to send emails from my POP and IMAP accounts, logging failure after failure. After comparing the Atrix's settings to a standard-UI Google Nexus One device, I found the cause: Motorola Mobility's MotoBlur kept overriding my manual settings to add a user name to the SMTP settings, even though neither my POP nor IMAP Internet service providers use one for authentication. That unwanted information essentially caused both servers to reject the mail being sent from the Atrix.
The Nexus One, which uses the plain-vanilla Google Android OS (both the Atrix and Nexus One run the Froyo 2.21 version), lets you disable such authentication, and it had no trouble sending email from both accounts. For the record, neither did Motorola Mobility's own Xoom tablet, reviewed here. The iPhone (I tested the Verizon Wireless version running iOS 4.26) also handles these accounts without issue. This "I know better than you do" override is a major problem -- and emblematic of flaws throughout the MotoBlur interface, which cannot be removed or disabled -- that will make the Atrix unusable for many people's email accounts.
The custom interface of the Atrix is most notable in terms of social integration. When you start the phone for the first time, you'll be asked to link a number of accounts to it, including Facebook, Twitter, and Google (all optional). There's an individual screen purely loaded with social features, oddly combining everything into one spot. It's a bit clunky and confusing, but it's not completely integral to the Atrix's function (though it could be a great supplement). The interface certainly isn't as intuitive as the iPhone, though many of the features, like the side-scrolling homescreens, are the same.

Will it ever be available ? Or are there other options to achieve this ?

No pb with this rom but in english only
Even if i select an other lang and clik "change", it download the 0409 file !
Lets see if the big Achilles' Heel is still there.
Pleeeeeeease tell me limit to 50 most recent messages has been fixed? if not totally kills its utility, what a shame. Hope they finally fixed this. Don’t even get me started on how great touch flo 3d grouping emails by contact is, except it can’t read other folders but inbox. No worries I'll just move everything to inbox. Dooh!.., only 50 to sort among all my contacts. What about wm6 great type & sort feature in pocket outlook inbox?, also rendered useless. Local search only, …yep still stuck at 50 most recent. So do the math, I have 50 messages to split between my whole phonebook, the majority of emails won’t even show up in tf3d for most of the contacts. Option,.. delete all contacts except 50 and pray no one sends me more than one email, silly right?
Why should a hotmail user not switch to any of the compets, if you can’t even get access to all you mail without the major inconvenience of launching a web browser? So now, just to work with mail I have to work in 2 apps? Hotmail Pop3 route is no better, zero folder sync with online, even at ground level no sent, or deleted items sync. Might as well be a seperate email account.
Really... POOM guys, whoever came up with that one, do yourselves a favor, send 'em to google or apple.
I really... hope after making such a big stink, I get to be all embarrassed and wrong.
how do you see facebook statuses?
With android 2.2 around the corner, what additional features do people want in the new OS. My obvious concern is that with the iPhone 4G around the corner our community really need to pull out the stops...
I recently blogged about it ( http://www.adriancantrill.me/blog/2010/05/android-2-2-wish-list-making-the-platform-competitive/ ) but i'd appreciate peoples thoughts on what SHOULD be in 2.2 and what NEEDS to be in 2.2
Seems there will be a kindle app soon enough - thats one step towards more mainstream support.

That is priceless

Video
I want HD video out capabilities.
720p video recording? With the added horsepower and 5mp camera technically covering all the pixels for it (maybe even up to 1080p), I can't see why not.
Native file browser and ability to save email attachments to sd card. Why didn't android 1.0 have such basic functionality?
All of The Above!
A MULTI-TOUCH KEYBOARD THAT WORKS WELL!!!!!!!!!
Google has failed to come close to the iPhone keyboard in terms of usability other than speech to text
a google "mikandi" app
jk
Backend: Open GL enhancements so more 3D games, and JIT for faster execution.
Frontend: Better search in marketplace and a more consistent UI with some sort of spam control on market
It makes me wonder if they will tackle the fragmentation of the market as has been suggested and pop a few of the key apps and features outside the OS....
I just want way louder ringtones!
And proper sound recording with video camera
Improvements/fixes.
Proper audio EQ
Divx/Xvid or at least give devs full needed access to implement these features.
HD video recording. ((full frame speed too not HD 8 fps or slowed down version like current cam))
C/Paste in Gmail.
Ability to send as different user within Gmail.
Edit quoted text Gmail.
Allow further attachment handling in Gmail both send and rcv.
Fix FB integration with name priorities.
MUCH larger HQ caller ID pictures.
An "exclude from Gallery/Music" option to directories that doesnt just .hide but actually skips over for those apps but allows other apps to continue using those media files.
Folders in App drawer.
Custom icons for folders on home screens.
Better search in market
multi-select in app updater.
Long press to start copy paste function in browser.
New Stuff
All the features Wysie adds to his contacts.
PictureMail in GoogleVoice ((even if its web launched))
Basically every damn customizable feature of Handcent in default SMS.
Re-Name and re do GTalk into Android Messenger to compete with BBM.
A social networking widget ala sense UI/Blur/New MS phones.
Thats all that comes to mind.
Can we have it now? Lol are we there yet?
-------------------------------------
i want my yogurt lol froyo time
SO we know anyone whos attending need some info!
They're streaming the keynotes on youtube if you want to watch

Advertised with these features and accessories, and yet now all evidence of them has been scrubbed from Samsung's web-sites. Even the Flash animation on the main Galaxy page has had a photograph of a woman placed over the point where the home dock used to be.
Pros & Cons... These are the cons.
Indeed, I wanted the dock, I wanted the remote, etc.
If they really don't want my money then they shouldn't have made the phone.
Alarm clock works for me.

Really? because mine has no fade in, or clock home screen. It only comes on as the alarm goes off.
saw that on another forum - that is a little "unusual" - suppose this might be an interesting news tip for engadget to run a blurb on
wow they really changed the flash animation and got rid of the dock!
had to see it myself to believe this..
they also removed the scene where the guy was sitting on the couch using his galaxy like a TV remote
makes you question a lot about what in the world is going on
it is just a Software feature.
my old Treo phones were able to remote control the TV via infrared
but the Windows Mobile couldn't do it, due the missing infra on the device.
SGS i9000 doesn't have an infrared AFAIK, so that ADvertizement might have been created before the final spec of the phone were engraved in stone, probably at one point they might have had infrared as part of the device spec.
HOWEVER!!! if that is a Windows based TV, then they can easily use bluetooth to control Windows Media Center, like many of my logitech remote controls at home
The alarm clock/smart alarm works splendid for me.
And yeah, they've removed the docking from the flash animation, but the remote is there still...
I really wanted that desk dock
@AllGamer: The phone is supposed to use DLNA (over wifi) to communicate with the television.
then the TV will need to be one of the newer types of TV that has that feature build in, else it's not gonna work / be compatible with older TVs
samsung has added some galaxy / vibrant accessories page
and interestingly, that media dock missing from the video is not there, but this one is - appears to be similiar, without speaker, but they're calling it a multi-media dock
not sure how, as it doesn't appear to connect to your computer - they describe you "use your travel / wall charger to charge your phone"
http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/...ype=acc_detail&subsubtype=chargers&returnurl=
Looks like the original dock but without the speakers. And even this is a bit mean since they dont provide and additional power connector, you have to use the one that came with the phone.
Not sure how it can be a multi-media dock though.

It' just software. The remote doesn't use infrared. It uses a proprietary technology that only works on Samsung TVs sold from 2010 on.
The Alarm clock works.
The dock isn't out, but then again, neither was the Nexus One's when the N1 came out. That one took how long? Couple months?
In case you haven't heard, Contacts was updated:
http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/updates-to-contacts-and-slightly-new.html
Best feature I've been DYING to have for months: custom labels!!! My god, I always found it absolutely maddening to look at a contact in Gmail with four different numbers and not know which is which for lack of labeling tools. Finally, I can name phone numbers as "Google Voice" or "Skype" rather than have a whole mess of "mobile" "work" "mobile" "work" numbers and not know which one is which.
Funny bug, notice that if you select "Google Voice" as the drop down in Gmail, it actually comes out "grandcentral" in Android Someone forgot to update the name since that company is long since gone...
(And for some reason the fields selected from the default dropdowns in Gmail come out lowercase on Android like "mobile" rather than "Mobile".)

Not in Gmail
That's great to hear! I guess I will see them soon once it works its way into GApps users. I have a gmail account for android market and google reader...but I draw the line at my contacts!
Cool.. This is probably off topic a bit, but I have my outgoing calls automatically private (AT&T does it for me), so I manually put in *82 for some numbers..
Android tends to hide it, so I never know if I'm really sending my number (prefixing *82) or not. Actually I need to try something else, most other phones if I put in *82 AAA NNN-NNNN and that person calls me, it doesn't match the numbers so I have to put one with *82 and one without so CID shows that contact...
Okay this has nothing to do with the original topic... So...
Cool, I'll be glad to have some custom ones, as some folks have "Work cell" vs "Personal cell" or such. Thanks for mentioning it, I'll be tweaking at least a few folks in there.
they need to add the other fields that show up in the phone to the google contacts webapp (ie notes, birthday, etc)... birthday in particular needs to be better integrated to contacts and calendar in general so i can ween myself off facebook.
also would be nice to be able to list all my non organized contacts.. currently i can only list my organized contacts or "all contacts"
is this for the android contacts app or just the gmail web interface?

Just the Gmail Contacts interface, which if you don't see yet, will be rolled out to everybody over the next few days. But all the new data gets formatted and sync'd to phone (as opposed to having to edit hundreds of contacts via phone...)
Hey look, and we still can't add birthdays on from the phone. Good work Google. Keep it up.

The phone didn't magically change.... Therefore, no new features were added on the phone.
