I would say ChocolateEclair for stability, kamira for speed & villainrom 12 for features
and what do u suggest when none of them install properly?
with chocolate i get an verification error and the same with official 2.1 that has been converted to an update.zip and also the same with villain12. but the weird thing is, it fails verification at different points with different roms, with chocolate its really in the beginning of the verification the fail happens and with villain it takes almost up to 1 minute of verification before a fail happens :S I don't want to go back to using 1.5, it suck, and if I use the RUU update for official 2.1 i can't downgrade anymore, atleast thats what ive understood about the thing... so you think i might be doing something wrong? i have done complete wipes everytime b4 trying to flash an update.zip from SD...
please help me
so here is the thing i found this forum because i was looking for a way to overclock my G3 so my games wouldn't lag anymore .... i flashed kyrillos 7.0 non-oc rom and then i fleshed fugumod kernel installed Setcpu and now my phone is running on 800 MHz max i downloaded ninja jump and pes and my phone is still lagging when i play them did i do all this for nothing is there some way ???

I would suggest, since you are already running 7.0, check the link Kyrillos ROM v7.1 and update your ROM to v7.1 (its so much better, though optional), post that Flash G3Mod v 1.6 Kernel.
Then using Set CPU you can OC more than 800 Mhz.
Note : Dont forget to read the instructions carefully for Kyrillos 7.1 ROM, G3Mod Kernel and SetCPU.....remember, you do all this at your own risk..check my signature for my stats...

Go to 7.1 link given above, and save the file in your SD Card and rename it as update.zip
Then from CWM recovery, install it and you would have 7.1 (read the link, you got to have 7.0 installed to install 7.1, which u already have)
2ndly as far as OC goes, no one would want to have their cell die..my question is Do you guarantee that OC at 800 Mhz will not make ur phone dead? (just a food for thought, dont make this bug you )
What i normally do is, using SetCPU i OC only while playing game..i normally keep it as 600-1200 MHz, on demand.....after I am done...i set it back to 200-800 Mhz on demand...and I normally play for a couple of hours at stretch...nothing has happened to my phone so far...but at the same time, I know when you run at max speed, you are bound to tire early....decide what you want more

I am surprised...you sure have not visited the link for 7.1 and read the changelog for what all has been updated vis-a-vis 7.0.(though as stated in my 1st post to you above, it is optional, what you need to decide is whether to have a Kernel which lets you to overclock, if at all you intend to overclock at higher values.)....have what suits you cheers mate.

thx for this help !
I'm looking forward to do this update (didn't know it was possible with that zip)
Some Q:
- Will it keep all installs, settings and apps as they are now? (I have K7.0-OC)
- I have G3-1.7 (looking forward to the battery fix), won't it harm this kernel or will of flash the fugumod again? (and do I need to reflash afterwards?)
- I have ext4 with many installs, won't it be damaged after updating?
- I don't have a swap, is it needed? Does it make a difference? (in the g3mod app I've set all to ext4, does this move the swap to ext4? It's 500Mb and half used by now...)
I wouldn't want to ruïn my system now, since it's finally running (not always smooth, dough...)
I suggest using fugumod ultra as that has an OCed bus so games wont lagg.

If its not running smooth, why do you worry about not ruining it, you can try various things on the forum, and you will have finally known, what to keep and what not to!

I installed, but it didn't ask for wiping (do I HAVE to do it manualy, because it's better not of course, now that I have everything installed.)
Also, I think it makes my phone slower :-/
Or would the wipe help???

Dont worry about the quadrant score, its misleading.
You can get a higher quadrant score by some tweaks, but more importantly.
See if your phone is more responsive, much faster, no lags, no freezes. If it is there, quadrant doesnt matter.

Brother, it does not ask for wiping, you have to do it manually...Also Supercharger doesnt work for me however lagfix does, but again I would say more than quadrant score, you should be concerned about the performance of the phone and responsiveness.

Hi all streakers
i have read many posts from many custom ROMs users here... & i found this:
1. some users experienced SOD
2. some users Random Reboot
3. some users Luck/success/no bugs
i have no idea with this streak5, how could users got that different results?
does the result will be vary in every streak5?
just wanna share my experiences with all custom GB ROMs..:
i often found SOD in almost all custom GB that i've used,
in fact i have flash it with many ways (include the recommended way)
i really have no idea what's wrong with my streak5
while my friends here: some had the same, some had random reboot, & some successfull without found any bugs although they have the same flashing method as i did.
have any idea? how could it be with our same streak5??? (but different results)
thanks for the attention.. * sorry for my bad english
Let's first make sure what we deal here with.
First.
Please post build timestamps from all kernels/roms you are using.
It's simple - in cpu master free go to last tab and you'll see kernel stamp there.
Second.
Make sure you are using ClockSync set to every 15 minutes.

The last custom rom and still i use here is your DSC.06B
since the last reflash last night without factory reset, i have not found single sod yet..(i hope no more)
about kernel stamp & clock sync there, i will try it..
& will report here soon when i get single more sod (really hope no more)
thanks a lot _n0p_ you & your team has awesome DSC ROM, i think it must be the most stable custom GB ROM ever.
update :i captured the kernel stamp here, is that what you mean the kernel stamp?
ouch...just have sod here..
the 1st sod from last night flashing...
and every sod i have my battery drained about ±10%
Let's try raising lowest cpu level to 384.

i have this sod problem in every custom ROM..
i think i had not missed even a single installation point..
So i am on this forum for a long time now i tested every rom and kernel with games and how they work and all but now i need your help currently i am on stock rom and i am sick of it because it is slow and my internal memory is 150/190 mb used... i stopped playing games and i am now looking for fastest rom that won't bug,and i need it for messages and music player so do you have any opinion on what should i use cm7 ? kyrillos ? or there is something better ? faster ? easier to use?
ty to all that help me
Kyorarom would help in opening apps faster as you can use kyora app to lock apps in memory so they open faster. I recommend kyorarom too for its tweaks and theme. Its really up to you
Cheers

Ok, let me summarize a bit... I was planning on making a guide for my setup for all those who want update but are a bit skeptic towards custom ROMs.
Let's get started...
Firstly, I have to state that I tried almost every ROM out there and Kyorarom, personally left biggest impact on me considering speed...
BUT, few days ago, I had some crazy picture in my head which was saying that modding one part of ROM crashes whole integrity of that ROM. So I was thinking that probably the best solution would be putting stock ROM and changing kernel only.
So, what did I do?
I decided to try to update ROM to original Froyo supplied from my provider (T-mobile Croatia)
1.) I flashed complete eclair...
2.) Failed to update to Froyo via Kies (who would say...)
- when Kies downloads a ROM it stores it to temp folder. As it didn't want to update from Kies, I took the same ROM and flashed it through ODIN
3.) As that worked perfectly, I had clean XXJPQ (So far the best one I got...) and decided to put a root as I faced some problems before while flashing kernels which should grant me a root...
4.) After I got root, it came to me that I just have to choose right kernel. I decided to go for fugumod. In this case, I took fugumod 2.4 800 Mhz (Cpu setup - 333.5 / 800 Mhz, governor performance)
Right now, you have a ultra mega fast ROM with incredible battery life. (Using ROM whole day with data and wifi + some music got it down to 85% from fully charged)
After that all I did was put 5LS mod and extended power menu...
I'm using Nemus Launcher which has left the smoothest impact on me and the most satisfying options provided for customizing...
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
EDIT:
As there wasn't recovery, and with that no backup option, I had feeling like it's really needed. Fugumod didn't serve any kind of recovery and I haven't found any kind of standalone install for CWM, it was time for me to change kernel. Candidates were kyorakernel (hillbeast) and astrum (moikop). As I tried kyorakernel before and it is based on fugumod and g3mod I decided to go for astrum which is based on samsung.
Results:
It showed great results for now. RZ Recovery packed with kernel is really great. Simple to use, has better interface...
Kernel also gives possibility to use Data2SD (hybrid) and OC to 1ghz (I preffer myself 800 mhz with lagfree governor)
Also, as it simply wasn't enough for me, I decided to go for CMbins 0.3.1 made by hillbeast.
OFC, it gave great boost to the phone...
I was thinking that there isn't much possibility to make it any better but once again I proved myself wrong...
that's a great idea though fugumod is a bit outdated.
any idea on how to enable hd2sd on that? otherwise i ll wait for hillbeast or moikop to iron the bugs on theirs...

No idea, sorry... To be honest I'm waiting for kyorakernel or astrum kernel too. Fugumod is solution because it's the best kernel for now, even outdated...
s'funny, i was thinking about this yesterday, i'm having problems with a gps app, dev thinks its because of custom rom. that got me to thinking about smonic (member) who is/was using stock jpu.
i was wondering if you could flash stock jpu, then g3mod 2.2.2 as kernel? then you would have cwm, extended power memory etc.
sd carc partition would also work?? (methinks? i have a lot of apps, and i use pretty much all of them!)
is this scenario viable????
pretty much a noob at these matters, i get it all, but i dont!!

Of course it's viable I'm advising everyone to flash eclair and take froyo supplied from your provider via kies
problem there was i flashed froyo because my provider wanted me to hand in phone and have it sent off to be updated, taking 2 weeks...
thats why i began on the slippery slope to flashing and rooting
but flashing stock jpu from the list somewhere on this site should work too? or not?
edit- maybe we should start this as a new thread, kinda hijacked this one....not intended @shadowmaniac.

If kies detects your phone you should be on your way to update. It probably wouldn't want to update it but will download ROM in temp folder. You can take it from there and flash via odin.
I've been using the N7 for over a month now, but just got time to unlock and root it. So I got rooted 4.2.1 running. The battery life is poor. Could you guys suggest me a kernel for stock with good battery backup?
And maybe a good stock based rom too,to go with that?
Thanks.
Battery life is more dependent on personal usage than anything. I regularly see (in a standard 18-24 hour day) over 7 hours of screentime with 3 hours of heavy 3d gaming on stock (battery life has increased over time though). If people actually used their device the exact same way everytime they would discover all this "extra life" actually is very negligible.
With that said, Trinity is an excellent kernel to give a shot.

Franco kernel is great for battery and performance

My personal vote is for M-Kernel.
Just rooted and running stock rom with trinity.. My nexus is running great so far.

i always recommend trinity kernel, because that's what i always use, on all my devices. well, just because . but you should try out a few other kernels, to find the one your device likes best. all our devices react differently to these kernels. what one user might find as absolute best on their device, another user might find to be the worst.
My vote goes for M-Kernel with 666mhz lp core. Easily 6-7 hours of screen time with games
I'd like to recommend Franco or M-kernel if you want great battery life.
Thank you all !!!!

If it's boot.img then you need to flash it using fastboot. Simply reboot to bootloader(on your N7),run cmd.exe(on your PC) and type fastboot flash boot boot.img(change the boot.img to the name of the kernel).
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Great. I got mine a month back, just unlocked it a day back. So are you running stock or any custom rom ? I could use some reviews .
Guys.. I need help. I flashed the M kernel. Then Wifi doesn't turn on. I revert to the NAND i made. Still Wifi doesn't turn on. It says "Obtaining IP address " . That's it. Please. I'm desperate.
I vote against Franco kernel, because for me it never goes below 400MHz, heavily destroying battery life. Also, the companion app is expensive and not really working well, especially when setting frequency. I wished somebody made a kernel from stock, with only undervolting capabilities patched in, the same for the N4. I guess I will have to look into that myself sometime in the future.
