Sooo I would like to get this clarified for myself and others who don't know how to take advantage of this. Being an avid music lover I use my epic as an mp3 a large amount of the time. Now I read about this awhile ago but it was only available for the vibrant if im not mistaken. What differences in sound are there and how exactly do I get it working?
PLEEEEASE I know the sound chip in this thing is capable of great things.

Short answer: the DAC is being used to its full potential with Voodoo Sound, and to get Voodoo Sound going, just flash one of the kernels supporting it, such as Twilight Zone 1.0.4.
DAC being fully used, yes it is,to the point of pops and clicks in your headphones when doing other things on your phone, you can tell because now it stutters when sleeping the screen...

Voodoo sound audio output from the media dock is horrid. I don't know what the deal is, but I decided to restore my backup to get my sound back up to par. Sounded like a speaker in a toaster... not great.

Same problem here, but I don't have a voodoo kernel. I noticed this today, using nubecoder's kernels. Songs stutter when I wake/sleep, also using the touch screen I can hear noise.
I'm going to play around and try to find the cause. Also, using klipsch s4s

I know what you mean by "clicking" sounds when listening to music. I used to get them on DK28 ROMs, especially during transitions and when the brightness level was adjusted. I've been using ACS 1.0.2 EB13 (Honeycomb Fusion theme) with Voodoo sound, and have not heard any more clicking.

That's weird, because I never got it with DI18 - EB13,but with Mammons ROM,its there... Not even using Setcpu,so its not the cpu.

Come to think of it, I don't actively remember having this problem before EC05, Bonsai 4.0.0.
I'm going to flash genocide kernel and give it a shot, if the static is still there then I'm reverting back to EB13 and testing it.
EDIT: Voodoo definitely improved the sound, appreciate the features it offers, but doesn't do anything to fix the static/popping and delay issues. Restoring EB13 now to test.
Thanks, but I can tell you already its the voodoo that's Fin it up... I know its slight, and you have to have a good ear to hear the stutter sometimes, but other times its easy to hear. I love music, and know what to listen for when it comes to audio hicups...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Ecooce, I think your confidence is a little unfounded. I was using Bonsai 4.0.0 with Nubecoder's battery kernels, which do not include Voodoo, and was having the same symptoms.
I am not questioning your auditory abilities, I'm simply saying that under different circumstances we share similar symptoms. Perhaps there is a common cause.
I make no claims to being audiophile, I own a pair of Klipsch S4s with comply tips along with a pair of ATH-M50s and can recognize the difference between a 128kbps mp3 and a FLAC. This issue is apparent without any headphones plugged in (using the Epic's speaker) and is fairly obvious regardless of quality (as it appears to be independent of all of this).
I have yet to restore back to an old EB13 backup but perhaps I will later tonight if I have time.
Ill say you have a great ear if you can tell the diff. between
128bit and FLAC without headphones.... Ill admit I didn't do all the testing before making that claim,Ill do the tests to narrow it down.... If you scroll a page while playing a song you will also notice serious static and pops...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I'm listening to music right now with the voodoo sound deal and there are definitely more pops and crackles than without voodoo. It is rather irritating with earbuds.

I don't get the interference when scrolling pages. So far it's only when adjusting screen brightness.
Get clicking in acs, but it is only a little bit and it os worthwhile. Music sounds awesome with my ue10 pros.

It'd bother me too if I heard it while scrolling.
Any of you guys tried the Voodoo app to turn down the headphone decibals? Maybe the levels set for Voodoo in the kernels is too loud.

Im having some problems with the normal Music v2.2 app that comes with Cyanogen RC1... its pretty basic, the widget is flaky, etc. so im looking to replace it.
I checked Market real quick for some other Music Players and there are quite a few that come up - some free, some paid.
... so, basically... Im just looking for some feedback on whats the "best" one out there? Is there possibly one out there that is really just that good? Or, personal recommendations on whats worked best for you, etc.
Thanks again for the help!
I have Mixzing and liked it enough to get the paid version its nice you can set it to look at different folders for music and ignore others. I hated the default app that came with my phone i had a few audiobooks, pre-audible, that would shuffle in when playing from my collection. Very annoying to go from music to spoken word when you expect music. it does all your basic functions and such has some other features but i never got into the more premium stuff.
+1 for mixzing, very nice app, and I have the free version. If you're just looking for plain, good-looking simplicity though, not features, Try zimly (free in market).

I actually didnt try either of those 2 that you recommended, but am about to here in just a few mins. I donwloaded "Music Player" which was highly rated and talked about a good bit - but its volume is horrible. Even after going in to settings and moving their volume up and having media volume up I have to have the volume knob in my car all the way to the right. I thought this was weird so I switched back to the one that comes with CM6, freakin almost blew my speakers. It seems like each app is using the volume different, which is weird. And I definitely went through all the settings to ensure that the volumes were all the way up.
I listen to audio books a lot as well - I freaking love them!!! Makes my car ride to and from work so much better its stupid... but I know what you mean when it comes to them switching from word to music, etc. haha!
Is this volume issue common? Is there anything that will actually boost the volume past the normal max level?
Thanks

audio comes out of the speaker just like any other media sound on the phone. you can use either one.
I meant is there a certain way to get it to come out of the speaker phone correctly. I tried the eq and audio stuff and nothing seems to work. I thought that maybe I was doing something wrong

what do you mean by "correctly"? are you expecting stereo sound to come out of a single speaker?
My best guess as to the OP's actual problem is that the phone is only outputting left or right of the stereo audio rather than joining both sides. If that is the case then yeah that needs fixing.

Hi Folks !
Have you tried Skype w/video in your Atrix ?
Works Ok ?
I tried mine this morning, but when I start video, just hear noise and the other party seems to hear a lot of noise too...
The video works Ok, but kills audio...
When I make audio only calls, it works like a charm.
I see an update in the future

I second that. Made a call just now, the other person got feed back and noise.
Also, the video and whole skype interface is really not slick at all. Very laggy all round. I'll be sticking to Google Talk for now. Once they solve rhese issues i'll be happy and so will the other half as I can then Skype video her in the car instead!

It's the same for me, video works great but audio is very noisy and doesn't work.

Skype with ear buds worked better. The person on other end had much less static. Could actually understand me.

I'm very happy with the skype update for Atrix. All I can say is a big **** ya on the video quality! I have been using Google Talk/Qik since I got the phone but with horrible quality over the network and wifi...
I haven't had a issue with the sound on either end of the calls yet but I'll have to try the headphones next time maybe when I'm out somewhere or something.
So go skype... about damn time.

Can we use the speaker phone while using the front facing camera? It doesn't make sense to talk with the handset by the ear while using the front facing camera. Am I missing something here? I wasn't getting the speakerphone option.
Just had this issue start a few days ago. Anytime the music player goes to the ticker view it also gets put in the notification screen, right? And when you completely exit the music player, it should go out in the notification screen. Well, not so much for me. Lol... The music player will stay in the notification until a reboot, even if I go to running services and force stop the music player service. In logcat it is constantly updating the ticker music view, even if the player is not running. Anyone else have this?

Not a big bother, other than its something constantly running in the background... But as often as I reboot shouldn't be a big deal. Besides, I'd miss the ticker music view. Just wondered if anyone else had it happen.

Yeah i dont have the ticker with power amp but I set it to be accessible from the lockscreen so I just hit the power button and can control my music, worst comes to worst if the problem bothers you that much its worth a try.
Also I checked to see if my stock music player did that and mine does not. So it could be the possibility that a mod is causing it and it's not the gingerbread rom. Also I have beats audio flashed so that could be another reason mine doesn't do it (most likely not). I would say it's most likely a mod
