I love the new music player and its features but for the life of me I don't understand why a widget was not included with this player.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I guess because the widget was for the android 2.1 player not the samsung player that comes with 2.2. Not to mention that would make it redundant having the controls in the notification bar after you start the app and a widget. What the should do on the other hand is give you the option to always have the controls shown in the notification bar. I also would have preferred a auto-rotation toggle over volume toggle... Because the volume buttons did a good job of that on their own, but now the simple task has become more complex and redundant...

may be bcos its not final yet??
Cough up $5.00 for PowerAmp and leave all default players as an afterthought.
Seriously, PowerAmp should be default. It's just that damn good.
Download Pure Music Widget from the market. Its a dollar, runs flawlessly, has like half a dozen widgets you can choose from and is awesome. Also works with almost every stock player on any device. Was actually my first purchase on Android.
Just get MusicMod. Free... Awesome...

Winamp has been working out for me. 2 widgets to choose from and lockscreen controls. Oh, its free too.

I second the need for a default widget, its crazy. The samsung music player is really nice, I rather use it than another one. I like the idea of always being able to keep the controls in the notification bar as an alternative to a widget though.

I got player pro but I'm really loving the look of the new player so yes a widget would be great.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I agree, the new stock player is nice. It is however lacking 2 important features for me though, the widget and headset controls. If they updated it to include those features, I'd drop winamp in a heartbeat. But until then...

I agree 100%. I bought it and love it!
Doubletwist for me. Lockscreen controls, nice simple widget. Player is free and I got the wireless sync with doubletwist desktop for $0.99. I found the sync works better than the Winamp one for me.

The features in poweramp are nice as is the ui, but the sound quality of the oem samsung player cannot be matched.

Exactly.. I hav always used "Mixzing" since the 'Moment' 1st came out & I went to Android.. but for the 1st time, the stock player really has my grasp.. I'm a Producer/mix engineer so I know what i hear as far as music goes (not sayin no one else does as well) but the look, function & the 5.1 thing did itfor me.. 5.1 feature is 2nd to none with any of the players mentioned period...

Well its not really worth having; its not really more than jus havin the app on a screen; thanks for the find but it needs work...
Just wanted some opinion on which music player you use and why?
I like TW:
Equalizer
Quick controls in 'lock screen'
Sounds better in Bluetooth
Colorful
I use PowerAmp, and i like a lot. It have lots of features and sounds awesome. PowerAmp + Voodoo sound = Epic Music Playback. I did have to tweak power amp a little to achieve musical orgasm, but, im a musician, so it wasn't a tough task.
i was using winamp because it's easy and has wireless sync (and i use winamp in windows), but am now uploading all of my songs to google music beta. i plan on still using winamp for listening to music thats on my phone, but the gmb app for when i want to stream.
also, winamp has the lock screen controls, but i turned them off because cm7 has lock screen control built in regardless of what music player you use.
TW too, we have the same reasons.

Fedes music player clone of wp7
i like touchwiz...
i also like miui coz it has a widget, and you can limit the size of file/songs that will be in the music app....
on touchwiz , my downloaded ringtones plays too which is ughh LOL.. and if i put the nomedia thing on the file , then the ringtones wont be selectable on sound settings..
but i like how touchwiz has a volume slider while the miui one doesn't...so i pick touchwiz, just downloaded galaxy s music widget app.. hehe
I like the TW music app.
I think I should try Poweramp and see how it sounds.

PowerAmp. Especially because it has awesome lockscreen controls.
PowerAmp!!
Good lockscreen controls are paramount for me since I ride a motorcycle. And between all the players with lockscreens PowerAmp has the most guts when you open it up and play with it.
Wow lots of Music Player that I didn't know about
As for PowerAmps, I've try it before but it was using too much CPU resource. Has that been fix or resolved?
I kinda hate the UI on the thing, browsing for music is complicated to say the least.
What are other music player options available for android? I would prefer something free but if its a paid app I'm willing to pay for it.
Also some of my music has incorrect album info, any way to edit this on the phone manually?
Thanks guys
I use PlayerPro from the market. It's a paid app but well worth it. Very easy to navigate and you can edit the song tags in the app.
Can I edit stuff for example, I Have two songs from The Killers, one says the artist is TheKillers (without the space)?. This causes 2 different artists to pop up
Going to start reading some reviews.
I'll give another Hell YA on PlayerPro. No matter what rom i'm on i HAVE to have playerpro. its one of the apps that solidified my love for android and its customizability. PlayerPro is literally the PERFECT media player.
EDIT: and yes, you can edit all the info and tags on all your media very easily
sweet, going to download the trial when I get home later, may end up purchasing it
Poweramp is one of the best out there, unfortunately its paid
definitely worth it however
I use cloudskipper. It's free and has a built in equalizer and pretty sweet lockscreen controls

poweramp.. all the way! paid but well worth it. If the song has lyrics, it will scroll em. If you want it loud, use the preamp. If you want it REALLY LOUD, QPST mod!!!
Never heard ANY phone this loud!!!
PowerAmp is dope, been my fave since the day I loaded it. I'll have to check out Player Pro, looks clean.

+1 for PlayerPro.
I could tell you a million things that I love about it (and why I chose it over PowerAmp), but I'll let you try out the trial and decide for yourself.
The PlayerPro trial will play music past the seven days, but it loses functionality. Read the reviews for the paid one along with the trial - but take some of the trial reviews lightly, some people are using it past the trial period and it isn't working to its full potential.

I agree. I too have tried many of the music players and I kept going back to PowerAmp. Great music player. Lots of settings. Easy to use. The ability to sort by folder is awesome.
Google music beta is kinda cool. No issues so far. Even has search option. But no controls on lockscreen.

ONE WORD!!!
Poweramp, poweramp, poweramp.....ok 3 words
I've recently tried out the power amp trial to see why its the people's choice for "best music player." Maybe it's because it's the trial but I don't see and significant things that make it better than the standalone stock player for the galaxy s3.
On the poweramp, you can adjust the EQ or use presets, same goes for the s3 player. Theres also the bass, treble, volume and x-stereo (not sure what that is) and on the stock player there is the 3d, bass, reverb, size of room, and clarity.
Am I missing something? Is it the looks that people go for on the poweramp? Or is there some special key features that other players don't have.
I'm not sure if I want to purchase the unlocked poweramp if it isn't much superior than the stock player. Only thing thats neat to me are the different sizes of widgets and customization for them.
What do you guys think?
Ummm, about everything. Sound quality, customization of the music and metadata, aesthetics, and especially the navigation and accessibility of your files.

honestly, it sounds to me like you don't really care what the best music player is. if the stock player satisfies you, then by all means stick with it. it is NOT bad. it is also not for everyone
I like the crossfade/gap-less playback personally
How can software effect sound quality the only factors that should effect sound quality for digital music is bit rate, digital to analog converter and the tiny little amp inside our phones since the software only messes with the sound once you start funking it up with the EQ
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
You are kidding me right? Poweramp significantly makes all music sound way better! Even my car stereo with two subs sound way better with Poweramp.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
How can software make sound better?! You're kidding right?! Have you heard of Beats? The hardware can do so much, but the processing (compression, equalization, etc) is all done via software. PA is miles ahead of the competition for true audiophiles.
These music players should NOT have any effect on music. If you shape the sound (EQ) you are losing bit depth plain and simple. That's why the whole beats app is a joke to me. The term beats and audiophile do not belong in the same sentence.
That said "better" is a subjective term and not everyone enjoys a flat eq curve, especially people with dual subs jamming to rap. Subjectively power amp SHOULD be the same as any player playing the same content with no EQ.
Also, you can control the player while the phone is locked (paid version)

So does every other music app. The key to good sound is headphones. My Klipsch reference headphones sound awesome no matter what app I use. Anymore you pick an app based on feature set. If yours does what you want then screw other apps.

erichj - I agree.
The main reason I bought it was for streaming my music in my car via Bluetooth. It connects and starts playing instantly without touching anything.
Poweramp is cool but, I prefer playerpro. The soft bass I get on playerpro is better than poweramp
I'm kinda debating between player pro and n7player now..
I don't really like the folder view in poweramp, and no lock screen controls was kind of sad too

You obviously didn't use the software. It does those 2 things better than any player out there.
UI, Preferences, plays voicemail received in Exchange (vs Remote Wave) and just got very use to it on my DX.

wow I'm blind, thanks.
I'm going to have to look into everything again
Well both software and hardware affects the music. But honestly without the hardware, theres no sound.
Seems like ill be sticking with the stock player for now and switch over to n7player or poweramp later on. gapless play back is a plus tho
So, like a few days ago i made a comparison between these, and the stock player sounded a lot better than the google one, at max volume ofc, but now i cant see a difference, can anyone confirm if there are any differences?
Im only talking about phone speakers, not earphones or anything
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Haven't really compared since I like the HTC app better but I would imagine the stock app would sound better since it's probably tuned for the phones speakers. The Google app is probably just a flat EQ.
I think HTC stock is better cause the shuffle option, it creates a whole new playlist instead of shuffling the musics on its own, doing that sometimes it repeats the same music.
Maybe this is mentioned a hundred times already, but I noticed very early on that flac plays much louder than anything else.
Could it be that different formats threw you off at some point?
Also, folder playback is available on htc player, big advantage for me.

Hmm i tested the same song, and the htc player sounded better, but like i said now i cant see a difference. Ill try a flac file when i get home,
And why this bothers me is because i bought some songs on the play store and yeah...... I also dont like the scrolling sense has, it doesnt bother me in blinkfeed or smth, but it does in the music app.

i spotted
there is one difference that i noticed
when using headphones, screen turned off
one click on headphones button do pause/play music in both apps
but doubleclick on Google Music switch to next track and on HTC Player calss last dialed number, for me it is a dealbreaker
holding down button seems to generate some kind of error, displays "Initializing" forever
but only on locked screen, on unlocked it launches Google Voice Search propertly

Some of us have more.... er... eclectic tastes in music for Spotify. Not too mention I prefer uncompressed flac over Spotify any day. But hey, not everyone is an audiophile.
Listening to flac on a phone isn't audiophile. It's sounds cool though.

Good point there. But I am willing to bet that true audiophiles don't want to use m8 for listening to music.
But I guess that you already ditched your stock earbuds also. I enjoy using them and more than happy for spotify quality.

This is the reason I can't use the stock player even if I want to. The lack of "skip track" control with my headphone controls. Shame.
I use Google music all access so I don't have much of a choice. But having pretty much any song I want to listen to ever is worth it
Never used Google player, i am pretty happy with the stock one!
