Gps fix? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What did you do to make your GPS work better?

Could you be more specific? Like is yours not working on a particular Rom or what?

That could be maps, the dreaded "searching for GPS", refresh rates and dropped connections. Any roms better than others?

Maps app you could get mapdroyd it lets you save all maps locally. Spotty connection? I've never had that issue.. and rom I'm using cm7

I don't see how mapdroid would help me.

From what you said I assumed when you said maps that they weren't working or something

Odd thing u noticed with gps

Straight in Google maps would not find any satellites, then for giggle loaded up Sprint navigation and it locked on pretty quick. After that went into Google maps and was able to get satellites

That's pretty funny. I'm using the workaround that Aero1 posted and Cardio Trainer will never get a fix until I open Google Maps (immediate fix), close and reopen Cardio.
Very odd.
Ya it works always when u start sprint nav and it locks within 5 seconds usually!

I'm in Seattle, WA, but mine says I'm in Denver, CO as well. Like every time I go to craigslist, it takes me to the Denver site, same with the speedtest app. Routing problems on tmobile's end maybe?

Im pretty sure it just trying to tell you that denver is the best place to be and it would rather be there

It will do this until it locks in your actual location.
Do you have location set for network or GPS? It should find your relative location quicker with the network, but it is of course much more accurate with the GPS. If you have neither on....
If it is set at GPS, and you have not been using it much (or first time), it takes a while for the GPS to lock in your signals and location.
There is a good app called GPS Status which has built in AGPS updater - that one locks in pretty quick.

Thanks for the app. Works for me, but I have to keep it installed for SpeedTest to know I'm in Dallas so that's a little boo.
Please post questions in this section.
Same here. I'm in Seattle and my speedtest.net app reports me in Denver. Turns out, speedtest does not use GPS to locate your position. They use your IP address, which for me is a Denver, CO Tmo IP.
So how do you fix this? Don't have a clue. I called Tmo and their "Android Specialist" to me to reset the phone... seriously
They told me to do a reset which is bs whats that gonna fix? Then she told me that she found a forum on google stating there having server issues in the pac northwest. I cant find this forum

Randomly the problem stopped ocurring speedtest is locating correctly and browser is as well

Wierd. My Sprint Nav wouldn't get GPS and now Telenav 6 works great for me.
Try using a GPS app to clear your AGps. There are bugs in EC05 keeping stale GPS data. A reboot will usually clear it too.
Here is the thread with Mkasick's fixes and workarounds:

When I first downloaded Telenav it didnt work for me at all. After I reinstalled and redownloaded data it worked perfectly. I like it a lot more then Google Nav.

Sprinte TeleNave GPS problems

Has anyone else been having the problem the stock GPS on the Evo. Every time I begin to use it it continues to act like I am a frist time user. Any suggestions on what is going on with it and how to fix up? Thanks for the time.
Sorry, and I also mean since the new upgrade has come out
I never had a problem with my GPS, stock or not. Why are you using Sprints GPS? Google Maps Navigation is great and free.

+1. I doubt you'll have issues if you just use Google maps. I always prefer the route maps takes too, as well as it being easier to interface with.
But to your question, most people probably don't even have nav installed anymore to even know.

Traffic widget

Idk if I'm behind, but I remember when that traffic widget was a mystery. Well I just realized, its an app that you name and set up for the traffic at a certain destination, say queens, NY, or something and it let's you know how busy it is in that area without having to open maps...sorry if I'm behind but hope this helps
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Traffic is horrible in Queens sometimes! Any good real time traffic apps out there?

I have been using Waze. Pretty good App but at times I find myself switching back to Google Maps with traffic turned on.

I always wonder how accurate traffic is on Google Maps.
